for a fraction of the cost to rip out the

cabinets

and install new ones, so we decided to go this route for our kitchen because our

cabinets

are solid wood and in good condition. We are fine with the layout of the current kitchen and where the cabinets are currently located. placed, there are a lot of them, we are not making any major changes in terms of tearing out walls, changing the layout, anything like that, so we are going to keep our current cabinets and we order new

doors

, so we order a shaker style door and we are going to to paint to completely change the look, as you can see right now we have an orange oak cabinet and they have a 90's style frame.

We knew we could paint them especially because they are real wood. They still look good, but since we're doing a complete update with nice countertops and a new backsplash, we wanted the new cabinet doors to completely change the look of the kitchen so it wouldn't look like we painted a '90s kitchen. I put in really nice countertops and you can still see the old style cabinet doors. The other reason and honestly the main reason we wanted to buy new doors is because there are large gaps between each door on our kitchen cabinets and all the doors.

The cabinet doors are different sizes, so we want to fix that, so we will get a full overlay shaker style to fill all the spaces, they will come closer, it will look much more modern and there are many more new things, so today I'll walk you through a couple of options you have for ordering new cabinet doors, so there are several companies that I'll talk to you that you can use to do it yourself. I'm going to tell you how we did it and let you know your options, so let's get started. I'm going to start by telling you a couple of companies that you can use if you choose one of the companies where you order the doors yourself.

Obviously, we will ask you to measure and place the measurements of the doors you are going to order. They will give you some options if you are happy with the size of your current door and just want to replace it. Then obviously you're just going to measure the size of the door itself so measure the actual door if you're doing what we're doing and you're hoping to have a larger overlap on your new doors than you currently have then you're actually going to use the inside of the cabinet for your measurement and then they will tell you, depending on how much overlap you want, how much to add, for example if I measure this from one end to the other because I want two doors to meet. in this cabinet they will tell me to take this measurement, add x inches and take away like half an inch and that will give me the final measurement and if I want it to be two doors, I will divide it by two if it is a single cabinet.

Obviously, you would take the measurement from here to here, add whatever they give you for the overlap and that's your new size for your cabinet door. They'll tell you how to do the same thing with height and I'll show you some examples for that. so that's what you would be doing, you'll also want to recognize whether or not your current hardware is inside the case or on the outside of the case. If you have exterior hardware, an easy swap to update your kitchen is to move it inside because that completely changes the look and is easy to do.

All cabinet stores will give you the option to order new hardware for the interior when you order, which will give you the option to get full overlay hardware, soft-close hinges, things like That's going to be another thing you'll probably order with the doors. of their cabinets. We also have a whole bank of drawers here and we have these smaller drawers on top of all of our lower cabinets. We're going to get them to be a little bit more full overlap so there's not as much space around them so the new panels will take up more space okay I'll go ahead and show you what cabinets we chose and I'll show you the color that we are considering. it's from the cabinet door store website we chose a basic shaker so it's not crazy you can get a basic shaper from any of the companies i mentioned and then the color we originally chose we chose benjamin moore natural cream and It didn't look good. in our kitchen so what we ended up doing was benjamin moore pale oak and it's the perfect off-white color for our kitchen.

Hello, as you can see we are basically in a new kitchen, our new doors are installed and painted, so I am going to explain to you how we did this, how we ordered them and some options for you to order them yourself, so I looked at all the options which included me ordering them myself, meaning I would measure them, order them myself and they would go in. and I would install and paint them myself. Most of those pieces also had the option to order them primed or painted for an additional cost, so I looked into all of those options and the quotes were great with all of those options.

And then my real estate agent actually came up to him and said, Hey, I know what you're doing in your kitchen. I have someone local you can contact if you want to get a price from him to see if it makes sense, so I contacted him and told him. He is a custom cabinet maker, but he orders doors from another company for his cabinets, so he came out, measured, and gave me a price to order the doors through this other company that included him doing the measuring and him doing the installation and also had options to prime and paint them for us.

Their price, which included me measuring them and installing the doors, was the same price it would have cost me to get them from some of these other companies, um, which didn't include the measuring installation, I would do it myself, so I thought I might as well I could consult him, he is local and that way, he could help me and so could he, because he is a cabinet maker, we did it. We asked him to prime our doors and the only reason we didn't ask him to paint them is because he would have used a lacquer paint that wouldn't have matched our oak boxes, so we painted them ourselves but did prime them. to us, meaning they came in perfect primed condition, ready to paint.

He can search locally to see if anyone can do it for you. Check with your cabinet makers and see if there is a cabinet door company where you live in many places. We just live in a smaller area where there is no one, um, the company you ordered them from. You can also order them yourself. It's called a cabinet door store and I'll link to them below which is one of the options where you can order the doors yourself. Some of the other options I found are called new cabinet doors. I found them on Instagram and they can make you custom doors for ikea cabinets or regular cabinets to your specifications.

They can be delivered raw, primed or painted. There are too. cabinet doors, shop bark doors, snap cabinet doors and I'm sure there are many more but those are the ones I found. I'll link them all below so that if you're trying to take on this project, you can look at each one. one of them is local to where you live, depending on where you are, so those are some options you can check out, so I priced the doors through several of those companies and our local contractor and compared them basically, the price What he gave us was very comparable. to the other places, I think I priced three or four of the ones I listed and one was on the high end, one was on the very low end and then the other two were in the middle and that's where it fell, so I was really comfortable with that choice, but like I said, there are a lot of great options, if you want to order some new cabinet doors like this, then I'll show you what they looked like when he came and installed them, primed them and then we had to take them down and paint them. , this is the day he came in and installed the front doors, as you can see, you can see a little glimpse of the oak cabinets behind on the edge, but this is how they looked primed, they honestly looked great, but that's how it is.

We also decided it was too white. We just finished painting and I'm excited. I can't wait to show you the final kitchen before and after, but we obviously have some things to do to finish this island.
