Elden Ring's Demigods ► Explained!

Apr 03, 2024
The

demigods

are, each and every one of them, direct descendants of Queen Marika. There were Godwyn, Margott, Mohg, Radahn Rykard, Ranni, Miquella, and Malenia, Blade of Miquella. Malenia. Miquella Leaf. Malenia, Sword of Miquella. and Malenia. No again. All of these

demigods

had fallen from grace when the destruction occurred. But in this video, I want to talk mainly about the origins of these characters, who these demigods were before the fall. And some of these demigods fell very far, before becoming this nasty mess, Godwyn The Golden was quite a heroic figure. He was born of the promising union between Lord Godfrey and Queen Marika, and achieved great renown for his bravery, at least in one of his wars.

The war of the ancient dragons. This war began when Gransax, a great ancient dragon, rained calamity on Leyndell, marking the only time in historical record that Leyndell's walls fell. It is unclear why Gransax attacked for the first time, but fortifying himself against the lightning, the Knights of the Erdtree resisted his assault and Gransax was defeated. However, this was only the beginning and a bitter war against the ancient dragons would follow. Du

this war, the Erdtree Sentinels had the epiphany that the only way to truly protect Erdtree was to become dragons themselves. And so, stripping the corpses of their enemies, the grotesque sentinels served the Erdtree, but instead fought with the clutches of the enemy.

In the end, the ancient dragons were defeated once again. In a sword graveyard next to the Stormcaller Church, the end of the war is commemorated. Here we learned that du

the battle, Godwyn, the defeated Golden One, Fortissax, was called the most powerful Dragon of all. However, he did not kill Fortissax. Instead, he befriended him. And it was in this act that the powers of the ancient dragons truly became a part of Leyndell. After all, only those loved by dragons can survive the ordeal of having their bodies covered in lightning. Then, from an unlikely friendship, an ancient Dragon cult was born in the capital city, and the Knights of Leyndell learned to worship dragons and wield their lightning bolts.

Lansseax, sister of Fortissax, even took human form to better communicate with the knights. It was officially decided that the worship of ancient dragons did not conflict with the belief in Erdtree. And it was all thanks to Godwyn, Commander of the Dragons, golden thunderbolt and true son of the golden bloodline. But now let's talk about Morgott and Mohg, The Omen twins who were also born from the golden lineage of Godfrey and Marika. First, what is an omen? Well, simply put, an omen is a cursed child seen as impure since it is born with horns on its body and face.
elden ring s demigods explained
When this happens, the correct thing to do, at least culturally, is to cut off the Omens' horns, an act that usually results in their death. Pretty messy, but some harbingers survive this process and some even receive a blade designed specifically for them and awarded as a tool of war. Although these weapons are ready to be taken from you, we find one such omen in an Erdtree camp on the Altus Plateau. Before fighting him, you may have noticed another omen nearby, writhing in his sleep. It was said that omens see evil spirits in nightmares. And I think this omen is a dream.
Tormented by the vengeful spirits of his cursed relatives. This brings us to the Omen assassins, who are horrible butchers with twisted consciences. They wear these horned masks that mock the nightmares of omens. And these butchers hunt the Omen and cut off their horns. The first Omen Killer was called Rollo, a famous perfumer who had to drink a medicine to get rid of his emotions and be able to perform his tasks better. Remember, it seems that many omens have their horns removed when they are very young. That's definitely disturbing enough to justify emotion-killing physics in my book.
However, if the Omen is born of royalty, then his horns will not be cut off. But the Omen remains underground, unbeknownst to anyone and imprisoned for eternity. As an example. You would have seen all kinds of omens confined in the sewers beneath Leyndell. But why is Omen considered cursed in the first place? Some of them are clearly intelligent. So what's wrong with being born with horns and great strength? Well, I think it's important to remember that this curse could only exist in the context of the Golden Order. After all, those affected by Omen's horns cannot return to the Erdtree to be reborn and are said to be born outside of its grace.
But then why does the Golden Order reject the Omen? Well, it's hard to say for sure, but my theory is that it has to do with the crucible. According to this ancient incantation, the horns were once an aspect of the Erdtree's primordial crucible, where all life once coalesced. And with the exception of a couple of Crucible Knights in and around Leyndell. We know that the Golden Order has begun to distance itself from most things that touch the crucible. While things like horns, knots, feathers, and scales once grew on the human body and were considered signifiers of the divine, they are now disdained as impurities as civilization has advanced.
We learned this from knot, scale, and feather talismans, all of which are protected by omens or dropped by none other than omen slayers. Unfortunately for the Erdtree order, these once-divine impurities seem to arise in some births, whether they like it or not. Almost as if it were a genetic trait, as if it touched the crucible at the root of the Erdtree. And then you have to ask yourself: is it really a curse to be born as a graceless omen? Well, as with most cursing in these games, I guess that depends on your perspective. In any case, Mohg and Morgott were Omen royalty and were therefore born in a miserable mud deep beneath the earth, horns and all.
Here they were kept under the strictest confinement. Each of them was bound with enchanted shackles covered in roots or thorns and bathed in golden magic. It seems like very few people were supposed to know they existed. Morgott, for his part, resigned and despised his damned augury blood. But his brother Mohg accepted it. In the depths of the earth, Mohg stood before an outer god, a being called the formless mother who craves wounds. A being capable of giving power to cursed blood. At that moment, Mohg's cursed blood burst into fire and he was blinded by the contamination into which he had been born.
Here, deep within the earth, he would continue to build a dynasty of blood and reverence for a mother, something it seems he never really had. As for Morgott, he was born with the same cursed fate as his twin brother, but despite not being blessed with grace, he loved the Erdtree anyway and even took it upon himself to come out of the sewers and become the Erdtree's protector. when the Erdtree was the one that needed it most. In the end, he rightfully became the Omen King and Lord of Leyndell. Omen or not, after all, he was born from the golden bloodline of Godfrey and Marika.
Of course, the marriage between Godfrey and Marika would end. And before long, Marika remarried another man, a champion named Radagon, whom Marika calls the other half of her. He became the second Lord of Elden and king consort, but also brought with him three sons from a previous marriage he had had to a queen of Caria named Rennala. These children were Ranni, Rykard, and Radahn, and they all became demigod stepchildren after Radagon's union (reunion?) with Queen Marika. Possessed of his father's flaming red hair, Radahn liked the heroic implications of it and considered himself born of a great champion.
However, he also admired another man, Godfrey, the first Elden Lord, Queen Marika's first husband, and lord of the battlefield. But Radahn was not only the son of Radagon and an aspiring Lord of the Battlefield, he was also the son of Rennala, who was headmistress of the Academy of Raya Lucaria and Queen of Caria. So, as a member of Carian royalty inclined toward sorcery, Radahn bent his will toward the mastery of gravitational magic. Rock slingshot. Gravity well. collapsing stars. These techniques were taught to him in Sellia, the city of sorcery, all so that he would never have to abandon his beloved but scrawny steed.
That said, before long, his powers would be put to a more cosmic purpose than simply allowing him to ride his own horse. Radahn was taught gravitational magic by an Alabaster Lord, a member of a race of stone-skinned ancients who was said to have been resurrected when a meteorite fell long ago, and when his lessons were complete, Radahn spoke these chilling words: "Thank you. "For your guardianship. For now, I can challenge the stars." And of course, he conquered the stars and the constellations themselves would be stopped by his strength. But of course, you have to ask why.
Why was it necessary to conquer the stars in the first place? ?Well, I have a couple of theories. The first theory is that it was done in self-defense. After all, according to the sword tombstone, Radahn was protecting Sellia. What's more, gravitational magic has destructive power and many gravitational beasts. They are proof of that destructive power. A being called Astel had even come down to the Intermediate Lands in the past and destroyed a place called the Eternal City. What's more, the Sellians are descendants of the eternal and are located just above the eternal city below. So here it can be argued that Radahn is simply defending Sellia for some reason.
But it is possible that Radahn fought in this conflict and also made the first move. So this is theory two, that Radahn conquered the stars for good measure. preventive at the service of the Greater Will. According to a set of astrologer elements, The night sky cradles destiny. There is even a banished sect of people called the Nox, who live deep beneath the Earth in eternal anticipation of the coming Age of Stars and the Night Lord. Long ago, these people invoked the wrath of the Greater Will. Therefore, it would make sense that those serving the greater will would have attempted to stop the stars and put an end to this fate.
What's more, Radahn was simply a big fan of Godfrey and seems to have more loyalty to the Erdtree than to the moon. Finally, the object's description of the telescope says that the destiny that was once written in the night skies had been shackled by the Golden Order. Surely this refers to Radahn's actions and blames the Golden Order. But Radahn's motivations aside, it is a fact that the stars were held back and that this had great consequences for many, especially the rest of his Carian royal family. Let me explain. The destiny of the royal family of Caria is guided by the stars, as is the destiny of Lady Ranni.
First heir of the Caria royal line. But General Radahn is the conqueror of the stars who faced the swirling constellations and stopped their movement in a crushing victory. And so, if General Radahn were defeated, the stars would resume their movement, as would the fate of Lady Ranni. The Lunar Princess Ranni was the daughter of Radagon and Rennala, and sister of Radahn. Interestingly, if you look at her true body on top of the Divine Tower, she looks like she may have also inherited Radagon's red hair. Great detail. But unlike her Radahn brother, she clearly looked more like her mother.
Who was Rennala, head of the royal family of Caria. The House of Caria has this storied history, which seems to date back to astrologers. In Carian Manor we find one of his treasures, the Sword of Night and Flame. It says: The astrologers who preceded the sorcerers settled on mountain peaks that almost touched the sky and considered the fire giants their neighbors. Rennala herself was an astrologer and she always chased the stars in her youth. She then met the full moon and, in time, the astrologer became queen, establishing the house of Caria as royalty. Caria appears to have a matriarchal hierarchy with multiple Carian princesses and knights serving as her retainers.
Now, however, there is only one princess Ranni, daughter of Rennala and at the time of her birth, it would have been said that she inherited quite a bit of power. In fact, because Caria's royal family was at its peak and her mother was not. only queen, she was also headmistress of the Academy of Raya Lucaria, having bewitched them with the enchanting power of the full moon, leading the young Ranni by the hand, Rennala guided her daughter to an encounter with her own moon. . What Rani beheld was cold, dark and veiled by a hidden mystery. A dark moon, a kind of twin to the full moon of Rennala.
You can even see both hanging in the sky if you stargaze from the heights of the plateau in the moonlight. Another who guided Ranni was a character named Snowy Crone, whom young Ranni found deep in the forest. When you look at Ranni, it is actually the image of this snow witch that you see, as the doll that now houses Ranni's soul was modeled after her, probably as a sign of respect. Clearly, Ranni admired this mysterious woman. HEShe became Ranni's secret mentor and even knew about the dark moon. Teaching the young Ranni to fear him as she imparted the cold sorceries of her.
So what do these moons represent? Now it's just a theory. But I think the moons act as guides. The Lost Black Moon of Nokstella, for example, was the guide to countless stars. Furthermore, Ranni and Rennala were strongly influenced by their moons. The moon-haunted academy of Rennala of which she became headmaster, and the Dark Moon of Ranni, for her part, also imparts wisdom and leads a journey at the end of the Age of Stars. They could even be external gods. And yet, despite all this guidance, Caria and Liurnia as a whole have experienced a sharp decline. Radagon betrayed the house of the moon.
Radahn blocked the stars from moving. The academy city is flooded to the north. Caria has been ruined in the West and the stars and the moon have gone their separate ways. However, Ranni, last princess of Caria, continues to carefully put new plans into motion. Ranni and Radahn's brother was a man named Rykard, who was the Lord of Volcano Manor. There is evidence that Rykard was friendly with his brothers. He later conspired with his sister Ranni, and there is even a portrait of Radahn hanging in the Volcano mansion, as well as a portrait of Rykard himself before the fall.
The item descriptions mark Rykard as stern, ambitious, heroic, and blasphemous. part of this blasphemy was opposing the Erdtree, which actually attracted many knights to his banner because Rykard believed in taking by force just as the gods did, and clearly many believed that he would usher in a new era. The Gelmir Knights armor set reveals who were once very loyal soldiers. The red feather crest is there to symbolize Rykard's pedigree as Lord Radagon's son, and the emblem on the chest piece represents the Lord who had great ambitions. However, as Rykard delved deeper into the ancient secrets of Mount Gelmir, he encountered the immortal Great Serpent, an ancient deity who aligned with Rykard's ambitions.
And so Rykard fed on the great serpent so that he could devour, grow and live forever. Unfortunately, this was too much for his knights, and they believed that his master's heroic ambitions had degenerated into mere greed. So they desperately searched for a weapon with which they could stop their Lord. And they found it too. The Immortal Serpent had lived for a long time, so there was also a weapon to kill it that had also been designed a long time ago. A snake catcher. But it was too late when the Lord lost his dignity, and the Knights also lost their teacher.
Not that that bothered Rykard. "Now we can devour a god together." Next we must talk about Malenia and Miquella. These two were twins when they were born (TOGETHER) No Rykard, please. Anyway, as you know, Radagon's marriage to Rennala didn't last. Afterwards, he returned to the Golden Order and became consort to Queen Marika. But what I haven't mentioned yet is that together they were blessed with two demigod children, the so-called prodigy twins. Now, in the last story video, I briefly proposed that these two twins were born after the destruction, after Radagon and Marika merged to become one god.
However, I have since changed my mind. I think Malenia and Miquella were clearly born before the destruction. There is so much evidence that these two twins were a force influencing the world long before the destruction occurred. Anyway, both twins were born afflicted specifically in the Japanese text, which said their births were vulnerable. Miquella was born suffering from eternal youth, and Malenia, for her part, was vulnerable to rot. Interestingly, Scarlet Eot of Malenia is actually an outer god. This outer god, like many others in the game, appears to have an order that can be imposed on the world through an empyrean vessel, and Malenia was that vessel.
And while scarlet rot is pretty terrible, it can be argued that there is a beauty to it. According to Gowry, the Order of Rot is resplendent. It is a cycle of death and rebirth, something like the lotus flower, which is a flower that blooms again, beautiful and fresh, from the mud. In fact, I have art of this flower hanging in my house. I always loved its symbol. I actually have a lot of artwork hanging now and I'm going to talk about all of these artworks that you can buy at the end of the video. Regardless, Malenia the Empyrean was vulnerable and affected by the Scarlet Rot.
It was said that there was no cure for this. And while fire and consecration seemed to be somewhat effective in protecting themselves, millennia would slowly lose their physical being to rot. Interestingly, old legends about scarlet rot have persisted in the world for generations, and we learn more about the God of Rot thanks to the Blue Dancer's incantation. The dancer dressed in blue represents a fairy who, according to legend, gave a floating sword to a blind swordsman. sword in hand The swordsman sealed an ancient god, a god that was rotten. Specifically, this god was sealed long ago in the stagnant water found downstream of the Ainsel River underground.
And wherever rot appears, types of rot also appear. These are pests and servants of rot. And now, in the current era, these are servants who have been abandoned by Malenia, who is their new goddess. So, this blind swordsman with the flowing curved sword became Malenia's mentor. So technically he's the one to blame for this damn attack. The prosthetic wearer's relic tells us more. A talisman engraved with a scene from a heroic tale. Although she was born into cursed rot, when the young girl encountered her mentor and her floating sword, she gained wings of incomparable strength. Malenia's ridiculous attack is called Dance of the Waterfowl.
And aesthetically, it makes sense that, you know, flowing water counteracts the effects of rot, because just as still waters become polluted, stagnation becomes decay. Therefore, warriors must always remain adrift, and indeed Malenia resists the call of rot. There's plenty of evidence that she's not really a willing vessel, but through sheer will and sense of self, she resists the rot. And only when she is truly pressed in battle will she abandon this will and blossom into the goddess within. Malenia's first bloom was during her fight against Radahn, and releasing her Scarlet Rot from her was a last ditch effort that would forever contaminate the land of Caelid and cripple Radahn.
So whatever she was fighting for in this fight against Radahn, it was somehow worth this terrible act. At least generally speaking, it's clear that Malenia was fighting for her brother. Aside from the occasions when she falls into being the Goddess of Rot, she is known as Miquella's Sword. In fact, she goes out of her way to tell you this. I don't know if you heard. Despite being the toughest boss in Fromsoftware's history, she is actually fighting for her right to her godhood, not her own. In the words of Malenia herself, her brother Miquella has the wisdom, the charm of a god.
He is the most fearsome empyrean of all. For her part, Miquella did a lot to earn her sister's dedication, including inspiring her sister's armor and a pure gold prosthesis. And it's not just her sister who loved Miquella. Many people did it. The Bewitching Branch is an item you can use to turn enemies into temporary allies. And it reads: "Indeed, she has learned very well how to force such affection." For her father Radagon, Miquella created and gifted her a fundamentalist incantation called Triple Rings of Light. Radagon then returned her favor, gifting her with an enchantment called Radagon's Rings of Light.
These interactions show some of Miquella's positive connections with her father and also with the fundamentalism of the Golden Order. And yet, young Miquella abandoned fundamentalism, since she could do nothing to treat Malenia's damned rot. This was the beginning of pure gold. So what is unalloyed gold? Well, an alloy is a composition of metals, so unalloyed gold is pure gold, essentially with no external mixtures. This gold can apparently be protected from the meddling of external gods. And so Miquella dedicated much of her efforts to creating a needle of pure gold. Specifically, this needle was designed for her sister to protect the God of Rot and prevent the effects of the incurable disease of rot.
We also see the bond between the brothers. When we visit Miquella's Haligtree, we see a statue of an armed woman hugging the girl Miquella. In this place we see the greatest example of the benevolence of Miquella, the Haligtree/ and the society that was built on the support that supports it. This was a promised land, seen as a salvation for many who were rejected or persecuted, provided, of course, we can find our way here. and like many other empyreans, Miquella seems to have had the will within them to create a new order. And his is an order that in some ways follows the model of the previous ones.
Most importantly, Haligtree is clearly inspired by Erdtree, but the difference is that Miquella's Haligtree is said to accept everyone, even those Erdtree avoids. Miquella himself was once embedded inside the Haligtree and watered it with his own blood since it was a simple sapling. Tragically, however, he was torn from this womb during the destruction, and her Haligtree ultimately failed to become an Erdtree, but instead became a misshapen husk. But that's a story for another day. There's also a lot of cut content that has to do with Miquella, and he's one of the more mysterious demigods that I'm sure we'll learn more about later.
But there's one more thing I want to mention before I go. It's a kind of theory I had during the making of this video. So Miquella and Malenia each have their own butterflies. Malenia's is the Aeonian Butterfly, which lives in the Aeonia swamp and is rumored to come from the wings of the Goddess Rot herself. And I think it's fair to say that Miquella's butterfly is the nascent butterfly, that it seems as if she just emerged from her cocoon throughout her life. This is a reference to Miqurlla's eternal youth and her cocooning at Haligtree. But there is, of course, a third butterfly, right?
There's the smoking butterfly. It is said that it is a butterfly that burns eternally and that serves as firewood. Now, bear with me. But my theory is that this butterfly is a reference to Melina, whom he calls the sword of fire, the lit maiden and the one who walks by the flame. This could suggest that Melina is the sister of Malenia and Miquella. Again, that's just a theory. But what I really want to talk about here is that, at the very least, Melina is almost certainly Marika's daughter. We learned this a long time ago by looking at her name in the game files, and we can infer it further from her dialogue, as she has a few lines referring to mothers and one that says she was born inside the Erdtree. .
So her being Marika's daughter is also just a theory. But this one is much more concrete than that of the butterfly. Although the reason I like the butterfly theory is that it gives us a clue as to who Melina's parents might have been. Her parents would have been Radagon and Marika, that is, Marika alone, I suppose, because Radagon is Marika. Honestly, Melina, as a character, has only become more mysterious since the game was released. And I'm really just scratching the surface with this theory. But talking about times before the release of Elden Ring. Back then, a long time ago, I commissioned this piece from a renowned artist named Ma-ko.
And now I'm very excited to reveal it for the first time. This storybook scene is heavily inspired by the first looks we got at Elden Ring with a red-haired protagonist, spirit companions, a mount that looks like Yakul, a bit like torrent, and a few other details hidden in the piece. This piece and all my other prints will be available in Spring where you can purchase them fully framed and ready to hang. In fact, they are shipped with a beautiful frame. The frame itself has a nice black satin finish and you can even opt for a white border around the print, which I think looks very stylish in certain cases.
I think these posters are a great way to support the channel and the artists and get something in return that will make your room look better. So check out my prints if you're interested. But this is the end. And thanks for watching. See you next time. Subtitled by in2thevoyde
