Sometimes I still find tackling rooms really intimidating, but I've been doing this for a long time and I've come up with a process that really works for me and I hope it works for you too.

when it's a room I'm nervous to tackle so I'm going to walk you through it and make sure you stay until the end because I'm going to reveal everything. the design plan to all of you, yes, so the first step is I measure every time I take a space, I always go to the person's house and do a scan, so I take measurements of literally every thing, every wall, every appliance, furniture, whatever is in the room, I measure it and it comes to me Like a little plan, like a little drawing, I refer to this so many times that you have to make sure that you are measuring, even if it is your own space, you want to have the measurements with you on your phone in a notebook because chances are that when you're at the hardware store or picking out furniture, you'll say, wait, how big is that wall?

Will this furniture fit there? You will refer to them a lot. The second step is to ask yourself what works and what doesn't. Usually when I go and do a scan and take measurements, I chat with the person I'm creating the space for. I said you talked about space. You're like Hello room Hello room, what do you need? I always ask the person who the space is. I'm redoing what works, what doesn't work, what they like about their space, what they don't like about their space and I really get a sense of what the person needs, sometimes it's organization, sometimes it's a change of full style, but I ask this.

Simple questions for you and your partner can be a huge help when decorating your own space. Without a doubt, what works is the amount of storage here. We have so many storage cabinets, drawers, more cabinets. I've never had a drawer for pots and pans before. I love the storage, it definitely works, we even have storage under the bench here, speaking of this bench, this is working. I sit on this bench very often. I usually start my mornings here. I answer emails. I know and our owner agreed that this needs a little improvement. Something I find really useful is that I write down the changes. I want to do it, in this case I have written down the refrigerator and then I go and take measurements of the refrigerator and write down exactly how big the refrigerator is now, but I can see what size I will need to replace it. that the refrigerator doesn't fit, so I just make an estimate of what kind of sizes we're looking for when we start shopping and that makes it a lot easier because when we're shopping I can just look at my list and say well, I need a refrigerator that measures no I know four feet by eight feet or whatever, the size of a refrigerator probably not, this refrigerator is huge, it's the biggest thing I've ever seen alarm off, no, but yeah, it just makes The next step is a lot easier when You do the math in advance.

We really don't like the green backsplash. Our owner also agrees. He said they put this up a while ago. It was the cheapest they could find and I just didn't. I don't love it so that's definitely going to change too oh one thing I didn't add that we love is the countertops they are real stone Caesar stone countertops and they are beautiful those are the main things I think they could use a bit. of an update is a small change, so I'm going to write them all down, put them on paper, and start taking some action.

There are so many times where I think I have so many ideas and then I get lost in all of them, I don't know what measurements I'm working with and the process is not that simple and it's actually more overwhelming, it sounds like you really know what you're talking about , yes, it's shocking to hear you say it, but I also love that for me, once you have the list of things left and the measurements you want to consolidate all in one place, I love to use. millinote for this step has really been a game changer in what I was thinking about this morning when I used to do makeovers and I wasn't using millinote.

I wish I had notebooks full of measurement lists and word lists in my notes and on my phone and everything was everywhere. but milinet allows you to keep everything in one place so I'm starting a board called kitchen and I'm just filling in all those things that I know from the beginning so you'll see I'm writing things like I want new roman curtain here's the size that should have. I'm writing down the measurements of the refrigerator and what size the new refrigerator should be and I'm also importing before photos to give me a real idea of ​​what I'm like. working and gathering all those measurements and photos in one place to start, so once I have all the information on my board, now it's time to start brainstorming, so this is where I start browsing line, I look at Pinterest, I look at things.

I have already saved. I also feel like a lot of people approach this step looking for new ideas without realizing that they've probably saved ideas while browsing Instagram to their saved folder - that's something I love to do. I love going to Pinterest to look at things I've saved and I always find patterns right now. I seem to love green kitchens, lots of neutral colors, lots of organic shapes like arches and it's nice to get the juices flowing and see what. You've heard me talk a lot about creating mood boards, but this is a great way to see how all the products you're drawn to will look together in a room in front of you.

I shop often people ask me I have a room with blue walls and I don't know which rug to choose. I think it's because people don't take that kind of extra step of creating a mood board and seeing what looks good combined with a mood. The board process for me is never linear. I'm excited about the idea of ​​making vintage pantry style doors. These are doors that usually have a cutout, usually there's glass there, but Noah and I agreed that we want something that you can't see because this closet isn't, you know? We're going to stay clean and tidy and we don't want the pressure of having to stay clean and tidy, so I'm going to look for something old and maybe we'll have to do some kind of DIY to make the glass non-transparent, but that's the idea for the doors.

I'm going to do some measurements and see what I can find and if a Smeg refrigerator will fit in there, fingers crossed the side of the refrigerator area is where we are going to do the open shelves and this was actually a last minute decision but what I'm thinking is taking the same backsplash that I'm putting here on this entire wall, so let's take out the cabinets, my dad is going to help with that and then backsplash all over that wall, I think that looks pretty cool talking about backsplash. backsplash, the backsplash I chose I'm waiting for samples.

I ordered them last night. They're like a fun take on the standard subway tile, really organic and I think these tiles will really bring the character into this space while still keeping it neutral. and I like it over the years because I find that with those pattern tiles I would really love to make a pattern, but pattern tiles are going to go out of date very quickly, you know, for cabinets, I actually found a company that It's called new cabinets they make. custom custom cabinet doors, so even if you have an old ikea kitchen, they can still make the doors fit, we don't replace any of the actual cabinets, we just remove the doors and then put new ones on, and I'm thinking of doing a shaker style, so something really classic but still simple and I would really love to do something in white.

Noah was worried that the white cabinets would blend in too much with the backsplash and counter, but we'll see once. we get the backsplash as it all looks together because I assume the backsplash has enough dimensions and color tones that it won't blend with the knobs. I was thinking of just using my gold hex knobs that were on the tree. house, I brought them with me and they're in great condition, the West Elm ceiling light and I love that it has two lights because this kitchen actually gets pretty dark at night and I was trying to think of a way to be able to You know ?

I'm also thinking that we'll make a kind of herb garden in this corner. It's actually Noah's idea and I love it, so I thought I'd get those little wall hooks, put terra cotta pots on them, and turn this into an herb garden that we can use when we're cooking.
