Mar 19, 2024
Hey guys, thanks for tuning in today, we're going to talk about great audio upgrades for your

garage

on a

budget

. One of the biggest struggles in your

garage

. Well, this sounds terrible. I can't say that's something I had trouble with in my garage. I was using the TV behind me here as a

stereo

basically and I put on YouTube, turned it up so I could listen to it in the back corner of the garage when I'm doing things and what I didn't really like about that was that I always had to come grab a tool and a donkey was yelling at me because this thing was on when I was looking for answers about what people used as a garage

stereo

.

I ran into a lot of people recycling or recycling old surround sound

system

s like this, but there's no bluetooth, so we don't want you to end up with something that gives me amazing sound, all for under $200 CAD. This is bluetooth connectivity, the receiver is built into the subwoofer and you have five speakers, so stick around, I'm going to show you what I chose, why I chose it and why I think you should too, so this is surround sound 5.1 logitech z606 with bluetooth. Let's open the box and see what it consists of. One thing I noticed correctly.

how to setup a budget friendly garage stereo system...

Here, in fact, they put all the installation instructions right on the box. There is a subwoofer here, a small auxiliary cable for the 3.5 headphone jack. These will hold all of our speakers, so the speakers are a pretty reasonable size. They come with a length of speaker wire on each one. These are the rear ones, they come with a 20 foot long rear speaker cable connected to them, front right, rear left, rear and our center channel. What I really like about this is that the receiver is built into the subwoofer and gives you a nice and compact way to set it up. thing with the speaker cables, no fancy plugs, just the usual clips, which is great because the Samsung I had had proprietary plugs and cables that I lost so I couldn't use them.

Here are the five independent speakers that come with the subwoofer, so everything. of your controls are right here on the front the buttons have a nice feel this is what I'm going to use to control it. I'm going to say 99 of the time this little remote, which is awesome because you can just swipe it. in your pocket you don't even know that a little RCA headphone jack is there, so I think if I put the subwoofer up there, the receiver is a good direct shot that I could reach. You know, it's halfway between my laptop and the TV for bluetooth.

It should work fine, the remote will work fine from anywhere in the garage which is basically where it will go now for speaker placement. Basically what I want is to have a uniform sound throughout the garage as an end result, I suppose I could. place them in each corner as that might be the way to go. I've also thought about mounting them right on the ceiling, just drill a hole saw, put the speaker in there and put a white speaker grill on top, you wouldn't really see it. however, I feel like I could start with the walls and if I don't like how they turned out, it's just a small hole for a screw, you won't see it when I take them off and then I can put them on the ceiling if I were to mount it straight, point up, which I don't like, so what I'm going to try to do is try to put a screw in enough so that it grabs and this thing just hangs. and it leans against the wall and like I said, if it doesn't work, I just have a little hole there, no one will notice, okay, that looks good, it's not pointing up, so I did the same thing.
The thing on this side I just put a screw in the molding and then I just ran the wire along the top edge of this molding, as you can see here, this is just a covering, so it's nice and flexible, so I can do this. otherwise I just remove a couple of screws that I have this thing attached to the studs with and then I could take them off and run my wiring because there is a space at the top that I left in case I needed to run more electricity for outlets or this kind of thing, so I'm just running a speaker wire here along the whole length here to see where I need to, how far I need to run it all the way across the top here and drop it down to the subwoofer or the receiver, whatever you want. call it this side.
I'll need you to know about four or five feet to get across and down and then the fronts will be over. It doesn't look too bad, so I calculated the length of my speaker cable. A little cut here. I'm going to cut right there, pull them apart, I've got my wire strippers boom boom this super super awesome tool this powder doesn't so much light this guy up this is a Milwaukee 12 volt soldering iron evil tool that's going to turn red when it's done or solid or something, no I've used it for a while so I forget it, okay, there it is solid, it's ready to rock.
I have some shrink tubing that I'm going to put over the wires so I can do this and that's it. you know what I mean slide that in so I've got my shrink tubing on my wires here's a red line on this one I'm going to join that with this red wire here feed my solder there oh here look at this that was really hot so you can bend it so, it will lift itself on the battery and then you can just rest the piece you're soldering and feed it with solder, turn it off and show you that it's red.
It's hot, which is awfully sweet. I'm going to do the red one first here, I'm just going to slide my shrink tube up and over it. It's not too hot. You should always be careful not to put your shrink tube on as well. Quick because if the solder is still hot it will melt the shrink tube before you get it completely done, grab my little lighter and shrink it a little bit and you don't want to get it too hot because it will melt the wire. and the shrink tube itself might melt so now that that's done I can keep sticking this in along the top so obviously on this side I'm going to have to extend that wire as well because it's only going to go as far as here and where what I'm doing is to run it behind the dash and there is a little notch underneath where this wire can come out.
Each one turns on, old faithful here, super easy to connect, you can see here, just push the cable to release. The center speaker doesn't sit like it looks the same as the other one so it doesn't sit on its side, if it did it might look a little strange. I feel like if I hang it above the TV, maybe that's it. It actually doesn't look that bad, yeah, I think I'll do that. I think it looks good. You can buy them, just like you can buy fancy stands that come out and the speaker sits on them or whatever, but I don't think it's necessary, especially for garage, I think this is fine, it will still do what I want to do and it won't show terrible, we'll put it that way, you can't whisper in my eyes behind my back, so the last speaker is installed.
For the surround sound

system

, what I'm going to do is play a little track here on my computer and take a little walk around the garage so you guys have a good representation of how well it works. The sound is distributed throughout the building. This garage is 900 square feet, 30 by 30. I'm going to set it to a volume of 10 over 30, that way not only will it be super loud throughout the entire video and you can also pick up where. the volume will drop when I move from one speaker to another. I have the microphone connected to me, so whether I point the camera at me or the speaker, the sound will be the same.
I'll just press play here and we'll do it. If you walk around a bit, you'll notice that there's more noise right in this corner, obviously because the subwoofer is there, but it's not a big deal. Some artwork my son did quite well, so overall a very good coverage, it's not loud in one place, just a good level of volume. to work with it and I'm very happy with it it sounds great the remote also comes from either end of the garage which is like I said 30 feet away so I can turn it up and show you the sound quality so this is at 15. 20.
Another cool feature is that it has a pause button so you can pause any media that is playing through it and then, I almost forgot to show you that you can also select the volume of each channel so you can select the center channel of the front rear speakers. The speakers and subwoofer reach five. I have the rears raised because the rears are usually quieter than the fronts, but I guess they don't get as much power or whatever, so I raised them to make them more uniform. You can also select to make it just the front uh 2.1, as well as the front speakers on the sub or 5.1, all five speakers and the sub.
I hope you enjoyed the video. I hope it answered a lot of your questions and gave you a good idea of what it's all about. This system is capable of doing so. I think it is an unbeatable investment. It actually has very good quality sound too, so don't let the price fool you. I know there are plenty of other cheaper alternatives but all I read about them was that they were just not good quality or every time you turned the stereo off and on again all the settings went back to default settings and you had to start over. new to all this, so I plugged it into my computer in an easy to use way. my phone, my laptop no problem and I'm totally dumb when it comes to that stuff so if I can do it anyone can do it, thanks for watching.
I hope you enjoyed the video. If you have any questions, write them in the comments below. I found it useful, hit the subscribe button. I really appreciate it and thanks for watching, we'll see you next time.
