MAKING A TRADITIONAL GERMAN DIRNDL - PART 1: BODICE - THISISKACHI DIY

Mar 20, 2024
take from the inside the seam allowances of both the exterior and the lining and now we will probably have to do this in two passes, so we will go from the side seam up towards the shoulder seam in one. side and we just move up as much as we can, so we have to move the fabric of the straps and since the straps are just, you know, a little small and there's not too much room, and this is just like that. So far we're going to try to sew up to the shoulder seam or somewhere before because here on the back we have a little bit more seam or a little bit more space so we're going to do it easier towards the shoulder seam, but we're going to start here and sew right over here and just move this out as we go on the sewing machine and then we're going to do the other side, same goes for the other armhole of course, so I'm having great difficulty with lining up the seam here because my front armhole stretched quite a bit as you can see here, which isn't really good, so I undid all the stitches and then just pinned them in place like they're supposed to go now.

I'm going to iron this and then I'll probably resort to sewing this in place like I did with, you know, I also topstitched all the other seams, so this shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'm just curious to know how. Like all these stretched seams end up looking like, I'm going to place the stretched side so the face is placed on my machine so the walker on my machine will help me line everything up and avoid wrinkles, I hope at least that's the case. I'm going to try to stretch this a little bit and then sew really close to the corner here as well and try to catch the eye as I do it, so that worked out pretty well.

I'll just try to stretch the armhole while I iron it. don't lose width as well and now I'm going to wrap the clip and replicate this on the other side as well. I'm going to sew this up ASAP and not do the whole inside and turn it. finished, so I'm going to do this here from the beginning and just pin it and then sew like I did here. Well, I'm going to try to sew this too and see how it goes, so I just put the

bodice

on and yeah, it didn't fit, that's because of the piping and everything, so it shrank a little bit here at the armhole because I just didn't think about it. the bindings when I was

making

the pattern, I'm changing it to Your Boys Pattern, so I make the armhole a little bit bigger so you don't have the same problem that I had, basically my problem was that it was stretching too much here and, therefore, it created this strange space here on the straps.

Again because I also have an overlay underneath for the buttons so my solution for this is to just add a zipper in the center front like

traditional

dresses also have or I don't know if it's the

traditional

way but there are dresses with zipper in the center of the front. Mine has that, for example, so I'm going to do that and sew the zipper into place once the whole dress is finished, so for now I'm just going to baste the zipper. instead here so you can do all the appliqué and embroidery and whatever you want to do for now because it's going to be a little bit up there or maybe it's not the smartest thing to add the zipper before, I'm not really sure which Probably the smartest thing is add it at the end by hand just so that all the embroidery and everything is on top of the

bodice

and then the zipper is right underneath and also goes into the dress or the skirt.

Why do I also have this down here, but I'll baste it here for now and then I'll put the bodice on and see what it looks like with the zipper in place. This is what it looks like right now for some reason. I can't find my other tops, I don't know where I put them, they're probably here somewhere because I pulled out all my dresses to show you, but it still doesn't matter, this is what the bodice looks like. as of now, as you can see, it no longer has this problem here where it just sticks out since I put it in or I gave it more ease in this area here and I'll put the zipper in and everything should work pretty well.
Okay, now the only thing left for me to do is embellish the neckline here as much as I want. I have some ideas and some materials and then I was also thinking about using some beads and anything else I can. Think about it, but it looks very, very nice. I'm super happy with how it looks right now and I can't wait to finish this dress and then, also you know, make a cute apron and obviously a skirt. a skirt I'm still wearing pants but this is the illusion that I'm going to create super excited and I hope you like it so far so we're going to embellish the embroidery decoration so it's the next day and today, as you can see here is The day of For the decoration I put some things that I want to use.
The satin band that I still have from the trim, I think I'm going to use it as a kind of border here around the neckline and then I also have this beautiful lace. There's some kind of thing here that looks like leaves, so I'm going to do this up here, probably then on top of the satin sash. I was thinking maybe it's some type of embroidery stitch that would look really nice, so I'll try some. stitches with my real home machine. I've already tried a couple of stitches that my home machine can do and I really like this stitch here, it looks very, very elegant in my opinion and it's also a little bit wide and not as repetitive as, for example, these are like the pattern wasn't as small as this stitch or this stitch is a wider pattern in my opinion, so this with some kind of contrasting color I think would look great on top of the satin band and then on top of that, I'll add this band here same so that the embroidery stitch is still visible on one side of the floral band and then to top it all off I was thinking of adding some pearls from time to time, not sure how I'll do that.
I will be doing that, but some kind of pattern like left and right, left to right and so on around the neckline, so I will have to hand sew, everything else will be hi, everything else will be done by machine, at least I think I'm still not sure. How am I going to attach this band right here? What do you think about this? Hey? You like this? So yeah, that's the plan, let's see how we'll end up doing this and let's get started anyway. Do that and that's it for today's video, I hope. You enjoyed it as you can see, that's the bra that came out of this whole experience.
I also put a lot of decorative pieces in here. I embroidered it with a row of pearls and you know, I did all that like you saw in the video. I'm so excited because this is such a versatile pattern. Obviously you can make something as decorative as this, but you can also make it super toned down and very elegant and classic if you want, obviously there are so many options I can do with this pattern and I'm so excited that I like to complete this and then put on the skirt, the apron, the blouse and so on, so stay tuned for the best to get notified - just hit Hit the subscribe button below and ring the bell.
