Hermitcraft 4: Episode 74 - RIDICULOUS Cactus Farm!

Apr 09, 2024
Hello everyone, this is nonsense and welcome back to another

episode

of the Hermitcraft server,

episode

74, and today is Sunday afternoon, at least it is Sunday afternoon for you who watch this video, it is currently Friday afternoon for me and Sunday afternoon means that unfortunately for many of you tomorrow will be your first day back to school so I wish you all the best of luck obviously going back to school is always a tricky thing for those of you starting a new school today, once again. good luck because that is obviously extremely stressful. I know some of you will be starting later in the week, some of the schools in England actually go back on the 7th which is like a Wednesday, seems a bit strange.

For me, but I just wanted to clear that up at the beginning of today's episode because I know some of my subscribers are relatively young, some of you are still in school, some of you obviously aren't, but it's always scary. I always used to be so afraid to go back to school because you're like, well, what if everything has changed? What if I forget things on the first day and make a very bad impression? What happens if I don't make any friends? These are all genuine concerns and I can promise you that at the end of the first day everything will be fine, you will get back into the swing of things and I'm sure you will have plenty of people to talk to by now, so get on with it, but anyway, now that My little one motivational speech is over.

More Interesting Facts About,

hermitcraft 4 episode 74 ridiculous cactus farm...

I just got on my translocation elevator and it doesn't seem to be working, but we're doing a new project in the industrial district, which is something I'm pretty excited about. It's been a while since we built a new

farm

on the Hermitcraft server and today we're going to do just that, we're going to build a fairly large new

farm

ourselves. Okay, this will be a

cactus

farm. What are you thinking, nonsense, why do you need large quantities of cacti? No, I don't really need a big room. These are cacti but I think it will be fun to work on and I came up with a really cool design for a

cactus

farm that I think a lot of you don't like so I'm thinking about building it in this area here it looks like large enough.
hermitcraft 4 episode 74 ridiculous cactus farm
You know again, this is a cactus farm that we don't need a lot of cacti, okay, we don't need a gigantic area for this cactus farm, this is definitely going to do it, it's going to go down to a really pretty deep farm and it should produce tons and tons of the green stuff that's cool, let's get into the world of Redstone testing and I'll show you, as you can see right now, this thing is very efficient, I mean look how fast the cactus is growing, This type of training here actually causes the cactus to grow considerably faster and basically turns it into a

ridiculous

ly efficient farm and of course, I'm totally lying.
hermitcraft 4 episode 74 ridiculous cactus farm
I turned the game up to two speeds so you can see what's going on, but this is the farm itself, this is the actual layout. what you have is a sand cactus and then some rope and then a rope of sand cactus and so on and then we have another one that is staggered to the side going up like this and that means that when this cactus grows it actually grows next to this block and then it breaks off and falls to the ground and we'll build another one next to it so it will wobble them a little bit and it's

ridiculous

ly easy to build, I mean look at this, it's just simple.
It is not like this? We can just build them like this and create like a checkerboard pattern of several different cactus farms. It'll work like a charm, so I guess the first project for today's episode is to remove this big area here now. We're going to mine this space and we're going to go down because obviously this is a vertical base farm, which means the higher it is, the more cacti we're going to bring down into the system. So I don't know how far I want to go, but I want to be a little silly with this.
I know it's just a cactus farm, but I really like the idea of having a ridiculous amount of cacti, so let's get to it. business and see how big we can dig this hole, personally I would say this is a pretty good area for our new gigantic cactus farm, I mean it's pretty deep, I don't know how many blocks I could now, I really wasn't taking Note that I I stopped when I felt like I needed to stop and I would say we have a pretty good area for this so obviously our cactus farm is going to go up like this and then down here we go. have water currents that will push all the cacti that fall from the farm itself and be placed in the hoppers and then of course, like all the other farms in this area, they will then go to be taken to our item storage system and they'll run directly into the sorter and stuff, so that's basically the plan for today's episode.
I have no idea how much we have to do, but I guess the first thing we should do. What we need to do is gather a ton of sand and also a ton of rope and probably a ton of characters too because, to be honest, I don't know if I have any cacti, I mean. We definitely don't have enough to fill this farm, so we may have to do this a little at a time. Two things, number one, we have some pretty cool additions to our ranking system from the looks of the stuff these guys have been collecting. and now they have pumpkins on their heads and sugar cane in their hands, but the second thing is that maybe we should find a better solution for this.
I should probably dump some lava at some point because there are a lot of items in there. I mean, we're looking at 117, that's ridiculous. While I was on my way to the desert, I noticed some small signs around that said that you needed to get your store licenses by September 1st. It's now the second of September, which means I don't have any store licenses, which means my unprofitable stores could be about to close, which I assume you know, is absolutely fine, not that I'm losing too much, but still, I don't do it. I don't know what to do now, I think we're going to have to send a message to Wells saying, "Hey, late payment, please, can I get my license now?", obviously because this is a pretty simple project, there aren't too many resources to gather so we have all the sand I have a bunch of cacti from Wells Night Cactus Farm which is absolutely excellent and now we're going to grab some rope I don't know if that's going to be enough rope right there that's what four batteries, I think we're probably going to need a little bit more than that just to be safe, okay, you might as well bring that with you and we have another set of things on the other side of our storage system, so fingers crossed we'll have a little more luck here, yes, that's considerably better.
We're going to throw all of that into the inventory, go down to the bottom and start placing some blocks so that all the cactus pillars are now. Totally planned out, we have all the tiles placed and one thing I just thought is that I have no idea how I'm going to build this because of course if you place the sand then we place our characters. We place a block next to the cactus that the cactus is going to break, which means we can't really get up and make these pillars. I don't know how I'm going to do it, maybe I could do it layer by layer.
I kind of put all the sand and then I put all the cacti and then all the rope next to the cactus and then the sand on top maybe I just don't know, I don't really know. a little bit confused as to how I'm going to build this, especially in this confined space, it might be just a little bit challenging, well you know what I'm going to do, I'll run some tests on it, maybe what I could do is I can. do it layer by layer and if that doesn't work I'll do it row by row which might be a good option.
Oh, chances are I'll die multiple times with all of these characters and lose all of them. my articles, that's definitely something I need to be careful of now. I actually bought a farm similar to this one in Hermitcraft series 2 that was designed by Seth Bling. It was a very similar setup, but instead of using ropes you used vines and you could use the vines to climb to the next layer, that's basically how you built it and it was actually very clever like that, but I think our method is working pretty well, so The only thing I will say is that you noticed that I had Remove that row from there and that's simply because if I hadn't done that then we wouldn't have been able to do it.
I think a cactus set simply wouldn't have been broken by the blocks and that's not particularly good. It doesn't make sense so now we have to start working on the next layer and this all seems very, very confusing. I guess now we work in this direction and do the same thing once again, so I guess it's cactus, cactus yarn, and sand. rope arena, you know? That sounds pretty good to me, it's like a new Disney song or something. Cactus rope sand. Cactus rope sand. That's basically going to be my life for probably the next 45 minutes to an hour and a half.
Progress updates. It's raining. It's dark, it's a storm, I can hear a lot of chickens, which is really driving me crazy, there are zombies on the walls which are also extremely annoying and the cactus farm is setting up really well, I mean, we're making really good progress. . Now that I've got that little rhyme in my head, the cactus rope and the sand, it's just working wonders, we're putting all the blocks in really fast, I'd say we're around, we've got one, two, three, four. layers three and a half layers done and I'd say we only have another four or five layers left until we get to the top I mean this is going really well we should have made this bigger guys I have some fantastic news from the looks on the that the farm is working, we actually have a character piece on the floor, it's right there, that's evidence that this design is actually functional, one thing I'll just say is that obviously there will be some elements missed in any cactus farm , that will always be the case, some of the characters will land on the cactus and be destroyed, but for the most part this should be functional.
I'm a little worried that there's only one on the ground, I mean I would have thought it would be more than that, but you know, it's a good start, it's definitely a good start, I can't see any more, I think it's the same one as before, oh, and there's another one. one we have two and that one broke but I think we lost the item no it's there this thing is super efficient we have built the best cactus farm we have ever believed or not ladies and gentlemen the whole farm has been completed , we have built All this is all, the cactus farm is finished.
You can see some cacti fall to the ground. Everything works perfectly. We have all the modules in place. Now I'm putting some slabs on top because I think that will do the trick. It looks good and everything is now completed. The reason I sound so confused and so surprised is because, as I said before, I actually built this in the Hermitcraft series. Okay, I built this, but it was actually an easier design to build. a simpler design and it was much easier to build because of the way you did it and I remember looking back after recording that episode and saying, "wow, look how much time and effort I put into that episode, this is one of my best episodes and at the end of Hermitcraft series 2 I thought, God, that episode was amazing, I don't know what I was doing back then, okay Hermitcraft series 2, okay, no, I'm not saying I don't I tried hard in the past.
Those days all I'm saying is that I clearly tried a lot harder now than I did back then because we're only a third of the way through the episode and we still have a lot more things to do. Let's hook this up to the storage system. Let's go Let's make all the sorters and collect all the items. We're going to put the glass on top and do all the decoration. We're basically going to complete all of this in one episode, I think it's going to be a lot of fun, so like I mentioned before, the Next step of the process is to do all the decoration, make all the sandstone walls and also all the glass on top and because I'm a little lazy and I don't want to go out and mine sandstone, especially since my pick is running out.
In fact, I'm going to take some of the sand we got earlier and turn it into sandstone. I know it's a pretty big waste, okay, we're wasting quite a bit of sand right here, but I don't use it, so it seems like a good idea, wow, this thing is actually very efficient, I mean, look, we have a lot of cacti in bottom here there's a ton of it oh my gosh this is going to be a quick farm this is going to be a really really quick farm I think we're going to fill up the 36 double chests pretty quick here I mean there were at least maybe 20 in the ground there are 20 every five minutes, which puts us in olly I can't do mental calculations.
I was going to try to calculate hourly rates but I'm a bit stupid, well that's a bit of a pain. I just got back from the end of repairing my pickaxe and it turns out my bed is gone, but this gives me a great excuse to show theiron titan or is it the iron trench or is it the iron.casting i think it's the iron titan yes this is the iron titan and it looks absolutely glorious and if you're wondering how tangotek and impulse were able to build that gigantic face of iron block in my drone, this is why, I mean, they have a lot of iron stored, this is completely ridiculous and you can see we have a lot more iron flowing as well.
My crafting plan, but all the sandstone didn't work out very well, I mean, it barely covered. one side of construction, so here I am again in the deserts, clearing huge amounts of space and making a giant mess. Now that all our walls are finished it's time to start working on the floor and for our floor we are going to use compressed ice and that will transport our items very well and quickly, but while I was building all the walls I did a little bit of calculation to try to calculate how fast this farm was because obviously I was looking around and it was like there were characters everywhere this works like a charm turns out it's not that ridiculous to be frankly honest with you we have 37 or about 37 characters each five minutes, okay, and the way I know that is because obviously after five minutes, the cactus d appears, so we have a five minute window, that's five minutes of characters, which seems like a lot, but when you figure it out , it's only 444 cacti per hour, that sounds like a lot again, I mean, that's it. almost seven stacks of cactus but seven stacks of characters per hour, which means that after a 10 hour AFK session we'll get maybe if we're really lucky, like we're really pushing the boat out a double and a half chest now. we have 36 double chests in our storage system dedicated to this, yes, just dedicated to this, which means we have to do about 30 night sessions to fill all those chests, which is definitely doable.
I've been doing a lot of them recently. All I'm saying is this isn't the ridiculous farm. This isn't the craziest farm I've built in the industrial district. I thought this was going to be really really fast. Turns out he's just energetic. I'm going to describe it as an energetic cactus farm, it's not like Lightning Mcqueen but it's pretty fast so I hope you still like it. Next on the to-do list is to connect our cactus farm to our hopper system and I have located the hopper system for our egg farm which is quite close by. I mean, you can see this is where the water streams end for the cactus farm and there's a bunch of cacti at the end here and then the egg farm is right over there, so I go.
What I have to do is get all these blocks out here and we're going to run all the hoppers through that way and they're all going to head to the item elevator which will then send the items into the hoppers and then they'll snake around the entire industrial district before ending up at The ranking system seems to be the easiest way to do things, so I have a bit of redstone to do and also a bit of cleanup to do, but I hope it all works out. I've placed a lot of redstone and now we need to test it a bit, so I just threw in a few items to test the starting mechanism and that seems to be working fine, but let's see what happens if we add a bunch of items.
I want to make sure they go all the way to the top, so let's see how far they go up, so we have one. element there other than that, it seems pretty good, it seems like all the elements are going straight to the top, they are flowing through the hoppers, now they are going up to the sorting system, this really works you know? Today's episode was too simple. I'm waiting for something catastrophically horrible to happen because right now this is just weird. Something has gone catastrophically wrong and I can't figure it out. All the elements seem to be stuck halfway.
Through the element dropper, I've tried a slightly different layout that doesn't seem to work. I think the only possible reason is that our item lift is on a different shard than the redstone and that could be the cause. It's kind of a bit of a twist on Redstone's timing, which basically means it doesn't work, but yeah, it just doesn't happen. Look, all the elements are stuck here now because I tried some new layouts, but it just doesn't work. work, so what I'm going to do is destroy all of this and put it in a block so it's all in one piece.
It seems a little silly, but I hope it works. I have tried two things, number one is that now everything is in one piece. You can see there's a chunk right there and this is the other chunk and the other thing I've done is placed it on that solid block next to all of our drippers with red stone on top of it so I'm really hoping this actually works what I'm going to do. What to do now is connect the hopper flow and we're just going to run elements of our cactus farm directly into it, here it goes, it looks better, I don't see any elements inside that say This is fine, this is fine and let's check all the dropper.
No elements, no elements, no elements. Great, okay, this works perfectly. I have no idea if it was the shard problem or the block problem, but we've already solved that, so now I can move on to putting the glass roof on this thing oh dear oh I was too busy concentrating on how crazy that is to notice if there was a zombie in the way but that's ridiculous how many there are too many there are like 200 something and I only get 62 frames per second which for my computer hadron collider is pretty low well I have to admit it looks fantastic I mean, it looks so cool and I'm so happy to see that the industrial district is In fact, we're really coming together, in fact, we have like a solid line.
I need to see this from above, check it out guys, the industrial district is really starting to come together now, it's taken a lot of episodes. Okay, I can't even remember when. We started working in the industrial district, but it looks amazing. We have a lot of farms. We have tons of items flowing into the core part of the system. I mean, what farms do we really have? We have carrots, dad. we have wheat, we have melon and pumpkin, we have cactus chicken egg, we have a foundry, we have a villager training, we have more pumpkin and melon, we have sugar cane and then we have the villager breeder from there doing quite well and we have a farm of bones under this hill and the community building project and the bat cave down there and the drone hermit is incredible.
The homograph is going very well. I have to keep working on this. Now we have to connect the cactus farm to the rating system. I decided I wouldn't record too much of me plugging this thing into the item sorter simply because you've seen it a few times before. I mean, this is like the Ninth Thing that I threw in the item sorter, but here we go, we have our cactus, we have our random items to keep this from overflowing and if we look down, we should have one or two. cactus, I mean, you can see it enters the system when it reaches 41, that means it will stop filling the hopper and start filling the chest at the bottom, all of which have been connected using these hoppers in the right way. all the way to the bottom there and we also have our junk item dropper there, which just drops items to the ground, which is perfect and this is done.
We finished the whole project in one episode, I don't remember. The last time I did that I think the mix of villager noises and all my drippers ticking and stuff is pretty much the theme song for my base, but anyway we're going to pop up to the end of the ranking system and let's take a look if the cactus really goes into the chest, so this one here is the eggs, the other one is roast chicken, this is the wheat and here it goes, it looks good, we have a lot of things, these are all the items that fell from the dropper that fell into the hoppers we don't need to worry about them, but this seems to work now, let's look at it for a moment and see if we can get any characters into the system. because I just want to make sure that it actually goes there, those aren't just items that have dropped at any second.
I mean, I mentioned before that this isn't the fastest farm in the world. Clearly, he's taking his time. a little yeah, yeah, this is long, well that's a little embarrassing. I sat there for a long time waiting for the items to arrive. Turns out it's a trap chest, he closed the chest, there are items flowing into this good, it's just this trap chest there. was closing that hopper, which meant everyone was going to climb into that chest, instead of being a bit embarrassing. Now I'm going to add a number to the spoon counter, but after that, what we're going to do is the standard overnight afk session that I want. to see how good this cactus farm really is because I have high hopes, okay, I think I'm going to aim for maybe a double and a half chest of cacti, that's what I'm going to aim for a double and a half chest.
I'd say it's completely doable. I mean, you've seen the size of this farm. I'd say we can do it, so I'll go overnight and we'll see how many items we can get. I was just having lunch and something happened that has me very scared, very scared, there was a zombie here and the vintage meat is on. Hello vintage, I have to say hello because you are a new hermit on the Hermitcraft server, but there was a zombie here it could have caused some serious damage, serious damage, serious damage, I have no idea where it came from or how it spawned, but it was just there, I heard myself taking damage while eating my delicious chicken sandwich and now I'm so petrified in this area, I think I found it, this is a spawnable block that has a light level of seven.
I'm going to quickly run around this area and check to see if there are any other spaces that have a light level of seven because I feel like some of the torches I originally placed have actually been removed, which could have been the cause of the problem, but I'm very glad I was there when that happened because it could have been a disaster, it could have been a serious disaster, there's another one there. there's another one up there, in fact, all of these can be deleted because they don't need to be here, but wow, we've been lucky for the last two weeks to not have spawned anything here because I've been annoying around here. for a very long time, it's surprising that nothing showed up and killed all our villagers, oh we're very lucky anyway, now that I think that's taken care of, back to the AFK session, we still have a very long session. way to go, but that scared the hell out of me, seriously, it scared the shit out of me, I can't believe something could appear down here, no it doesn't seem like it, it looks like we're having even more luck with these afk sessions right now . because once again I managed to stay angry all night despite that little zombie scare which was horrible to be honest with you, we're fine, we're absolutely fine, all my villagers are still here from the looks of things that aren't we had.
If additional zombies appeared, I threw out all the items in my inventory before getting angry again because I didn't feel like losing them. I mean, can you imagine if I wasn't present when that guy approached me, I would have been? horrible, I would have lost all my armor, all my elytra, I would have lost all these items, I mean, I have a lot of good things here and most importantly, when I died, the zombie would have turned its attention to the villagers, which would have It's been really bad, but anyway now let's move on from that and take a look at how many drops we've managed to get and I'm going to start with the cactus, that's good, oh my gosh, that's good.
I have two double chests, which is a lot more than I expected, to be honest, two double chests, that's pretty good, I'm sure there are plenty in the hoppers too, not bad you know, I can't complain too much, I mean. Obviously, it's going to take us a long time to fill all of these chests here, but let's check this one out. We have plenty of wheat these days and it is also going up. I would say these things. They are quite similar, like wheat arrives as fast as cactus. I think we have two additional double chests in there and we have two double chests in there as far as the roast chicken, not so hot, the eggs are obviously full. to the top, all of these are full to the top, most of our storage system is full to the top now, apart from all the new bits we've built recently, so maybe we need to increase efficiency At some point, you may need to do so. add a few more layers to the cactus farm and maybe you need to add a few more villages to the wheat farm.
I think that will increase efficiency, but other than that industrial district it's working great, but unfortunately, ladies and gentlemen, that's it. I have time for today. I hope you enjoyed this video. If you did, make sure to use the like button and yesyou really loved it be sure to subscribe but thanks for watching guys this was dumb and I'm you.
