This Keyword Research Method Gets More Traffic with Fewer Articles

Mar 17, 2024
Wow, Nathan, how did you do it? It really starts with a good foundation and it's not necessary. Actually, I think I have it. I just need some of these books. Yes Yes. It starts with the books and then if I just put. them here when we're there and then one there uh ricky ricky you're not a very good teacher maybe we need to sit down and talk about

this

when we do

keyword

research

or as we call it search analysis here at income school that's that It is the topic perhaps for another video. um there's actually four main things that we're working on to determine which writing topics for our website are appropriate for our blog.
this keyword research method gets more traffic with fewer articles
The first one is really about the structure of the site which should be key and that's really it. what is the focus of

this

video, it's really about how the content fits together synergistically, that's the business buzzword of the day is synergy, from there we move on to actual specific ideas for

articles

, from there we move on to trying to Determine the approximate search volume and then go from there to look at the competition. At the end of this, we have a really good, solid list of

articles

that we can write for our site that have a very high probability of success, but it all starts with that solid, firm structure that is. apparently it's something I fail at sometimes, yes after that introduction I'll have to agree with you so really what you need to do is good, this whole process is key to the success of a blog and therefore , start with the structure and plan the structure.

More Interesting Facts About,

this keyword research method gets more traffic with fewer articles...

At first it's something that will simply increase the likelihood of you having a successful site. We have a little document here. You can't see it because it's just a small sketch, but I'm sure Andrea will do very well with us and be kind. It'll help you understand it, so when you break it down, you'll want to start by mapping out your niche exactly, so one of the first mistakes that I see a lot of bloggers make is that they're going to do their

keyword

research

, their search analysis, and they say There's okay, I'm going to use Google Auto, I suggest I'm going to start with this is a site about cycling, so I'm going to do cycling.
this keyword research method gets more traffic with fewer articles
Oh, this one kills me, here's my here's a good list of articles, things I could write. about cycling at the olympic games, I'm sure there isn't much competition on that topic, this is where people start and what happens is they get 20-30 articles and they say I've really covered the topic, there's nothing

more

to say. In reality, you have nothing

more

to say about cycling than what fits well in 30 articles, and I'm not just saying that people get discouraged when they feel like they've covered the niche in 20 or 30 articles, but all of them. This is a very level. high, I mean, we are talking about the topics that are probably the most covered because it is very simple cycling and therefore it will be very difficult for you as a beginner to achieve any type of success. but it's going to go further and further, so what we're going to do is take that high level topic and we're going to break it down when we choose a niche and we want to choose a domain name.
this keyword research method gets more traffic with fewer articles
That gives us flexibility to move up or down this kind of spectrum, this structure that we have, we can get to a point where we say, well, I've limited myself too much, I chose a domain name that is really, really, very, very specific and now I'm pigeonholed, it's going to be difficult to move up, let me give you a specific example. What if instead of checking out Cyclingnation.com or whatever, you chose something like road cycling, exercisefitnessprograms.com? You know, we're so specific. That's okay, what if I wanted to do something in mountain biking? Well, what a shame, what if you made your website something like twowheelers.com instead?
You know that now you could suddenly branch out to being into dirt bikes and motorcycles if you really want to, so don't just jump in and stick there, pick something that's brandable but fits the niche and that will suit you. give this flexibility, but let's talk about now, like when we started, about how far down we are. We're going to go okay, so Ricky, back to the tower, we have the structure of the tower as a kind of A-frame, you're big, the general themes at the top, so cycling would be at the top for us. this example and then you can see as the tower expands, you're kind of uh you know top cycling, then you have some subtopics, maybe mountain bike, road bike, bmx bike, right and then below that you could make a niche and then you could do it.
Competitive road cycling, you could do a leisure trail, like leisure road cycling, or you could do, you know, training, whatever the case may be, but you just start nicheing and then your tower

gets

a little bit wider and wider, not like the books thrown everywhere. the place, yes, it's a little less effective, by the way, which is kind of like when we start doing our keyword research with just a high-level niche in mind, it's like throwing books on the ground, it's that ridiculous, and? what we're going to do now is say well okay I'm not going to do it, I'm not just going to do cycling, it's too specific, I'm going to break it down, I want to focus on road cycling, but for now maybe road cycling be a little wide, a little wide, so let's eliminate competitive road cycling and eliminate the kind of leisure recreation that you know, going for a ride with the family and let's focus on the fitness part.
Well, that's a pretty cool niche and maybe. that's where we start because from there we can break it down even further and pick some right categories that we're going to have on our blog site on our blog on our website our blog site on our blog site is a pretty new term so that maybe here we have things like, you know, route planning specifically for fitness, so I mean the articles that I would write here could be things like, you know, how to plan the perfect route for a cardio workout of 20 minutes. I mean, that's a great thing, maybe not great.
It's searchable, but it's a good specific topic that you could link to as a resource on your website outside of ride planning, maybe another category could be like indoor training for road bike fitness, where you have spin bikes and we have other gad

gets

that people set up where they use their actual road bike and then there's nutrition, road bike maintenance, road bike maintenance is different for competitive cyclists versus just fitness writers versus leisurely cyclists, yes, there are some differences, the maintenance program will be very different, so now we have several categories, one makes it much easier to find ideas, but two, it gives us a structure to start with, yes, so you can see now where from We come, we are really focused on the subject at quite a few levels. and that does a couple of things, I think one of the most important is that it will give you some authority when you start writing your blog, as you mentioned, throw the books all over the place if you start too high, that's what it does and looks very good on Google.
You might be wondering, well, you ride a mountain bike, bmx, you know all these different topics, but if you just dig deeper, you'll see, oh, this person has 10 articles on spin bikes, I mean, you'll see that topical authority. So the plan here is that right off the bat we're going to pick three specific categories or even subcategories, so if I'm doing road bike fitness and move on to indoor training maybe I'll even pick one of those spin bike subcategories and I'll go. I'm going to come up with 10 topics to write about, so I'm going to choose three categories or subcategories correctly and choose 10 topics under each one that gives us that authority on that topic, gives us articles to network with, and helps a lot with research when you write 10 articles in a row on a very similar topic, suddenly you know everything about it and when you've written three, the other seven are easy, yes, and the good thing about this is that there is a lot more to say than you would ever imagine and part of that It's that through research you start to learn all these nuances, you start to learn all these little things that have to do with a very specific topic that you otherwise would have never known about and so not only does it help you choose those first 10 topics, but it also gives you room to expand after that, so when we go back to Google and maybe try this auto-suggest and start with something more like, you know, road bike fitness, I mean, that's just one level down. to the right and then I do that fitness a fitness accessories action app amazon average speed road bike fitness routes near me review tires now suddenly we'll be able to find better topics that aren't so broad and vague it's like when someone writes an article that says bike maintenance and they just cover the things they know in an article where it's like instead we write articles about how to properly maintain the chain on a road bike, you know, that's a lot more. specific, but you could write a whole article on that topic.
One warning I would give you as you go through this process is to be careful not to write an article that is too specific, this could lead to you getting very little

traffic

, even if there is no competition and you get the number one spot on Google, it doesn't really mean a lot because it won't do much for your blog, so a good example of this might be something like the question, since it's cold outside, do I need to add more air to my road bike tires? Well, that's a very specific question, but instead, if you wrote an article containing five important things you can do with your road bike as it gets colder.
I can imagine a dozen queries about the things my bike needs. Know? Do I need to grease it differently? Is there a type of oil that is more resistant to cold? All of these little topics individually probably aren't big enough to write about. but once you group them into a singular article, it becomes a great post, so when we do our search analysis, what we find are good search queries, we often need to group them again to turn them into really good article topics, another thing. What I would say is make sure that as you go through this process, we told you that you want to start with three categories or three subcategories and then you want to get 10 items from each one.
Don't start writing until you have all 30 articles planned. That's huge because if you start with one and then write it down, then you have to go through and do the whole research process again to find the next one and the next one, but if you plan them all at once, then you have your really nice hit list. where you can delete all articles every time you sit down to write if you have something to write. We have learned that just from the experience of working with thousands of people now that search analytics is the key indicator if someone succeeds with search analytics, the odds of success in building this online business increase a lot, but whenever someone fails when we look at their site's search analytics is usually the main factor, followed shortly after by the ability to write decently, not necessary. be the best writer as long as you can find good topics and then do good research on them.
Sorry, one last thing I was thinking about on this, this is really cool, so this

method

that we've talked about is really great for people who are just starting out. If you have, if you're just starting out and you're trying to work on your first keyword research or search analysis, then this is a great

method

to use and will help you stay much more organized, but it's also a great method to use. method to use if you already have content on your site if you know 8 12 months in even less than that you would be fine chances are you have already done some of this work without knowing it so all you would do is what you have to What to do is go back and plot it, see what topics you've already written on.
Chances are you've written on too many topics and you should really narrow it down and try to pick a couple, but the interesting part is I mean, you probably have great analytics data at this point where you can see if there are any articles that are starting to generate

traffic

and then you can start with those categories, and in fact, you can expand a little further and write another eight, nine, or ten. articles in each of those categories so again you can get exactly better traffic, so focus on three and once those three have at least ten articles a piece, you can go back and add more to the network and the next and the next .
I just need to make sure we have deep content in each of those specific categories coming soon. I'm doing a webinar on SEO.
