US Navy identifies 7 sailors killed in collision

It was 2:30 in the morning the captain was in a cabin most of the

sailors

were asleep when a 700 foot freighter four times the size of that guided missile destroyer crashed into the starboard side of the warship the

sailors

They instantly woke up their docking spaces. They could no longer recognize that they only had a few moments before the sea water rushed in. The damage is mostly below the waterline and is a big gash and close to the keel of the boat, so the water flow was tremendous and there wasn't much time. in those spaces that were open to the sea to the flooded delivery compartments with more than one hundred sailors inside the captain's cabin was seriously damaged in the

collision

the captain and two other sailors were airlifted from the ship the executive officer took command and Shannon 16 hours after the

collision

The USS Fitzgerald returned to its home port of Acoustica Japan.
