I Make an 8 Ball out of Solid Resin

Apr 09, 2024
Hi everyone, in this week's episode I'm going to try to

make

myself an 8

ball

out of

resin

, so this 8

ball

is a real eight ball. I borrowed it from my friend so I could use it to get all the dimensions. Now this project should be pretty simple, the first thing I need to do is pour some black

resin

so I can spin the ball. Once that's done, I'll pour in some white resin and that will create our insert. The resin I am using for this is a Slow Setting Casting Resin to get the black color. I'm just going to add a little bit of black pigment paste.

Now I'm going to put this in the pressure cooker to cure. Now that our black resin is cured, I can glue it to the scrap block. Now that my glue is completely dry, we can start rotating the front of the ball to get a more precise shape. I'm using my sphere template. Now it is very important that you align the center, although you will not get a perfect ball. Now that I have the front of the ball shaped, I can go ahead and drill my hole. Before I take this off the lathe, I'm going to drill a smaller hole all the way through.

More Interesting Facts About,

Now you'll see why I'm doing it. This towards the end of the video, now it's time to start with number eight and the first thing I'm going to do is pour myself a blank now that the resin is cured. Now I can work on the black outline to do it. I'm going to drill a couple of holes in the white resin. Before I mix up some black resin, I'm going to create a dam wall with some hot glue. Don't worry about the extra resin I'm mixing because I always have other projects going on now I'm just going to put this in the pressure cooker to cure now that the black resin is cured the next thing I need to do is sand this front down and drill two more holes, all those holes.

They are much harder to drill than I thought, centering them was a difficult task, well now it's time to add the dam wall again and pour some white resin into the holes. I'm just going to give it a minute for these air bubbles to come out. and then I'll put it in the pressure cooker now that the white resin is cured. I need to shape it to fit the front of the ball. Now it's time to find the center and then mark the circle. Wow! I decided to do this project. There was one step that really worried me and that was getting this dead eight on the ball.

Now I know that if I didn't do it, it would bother me forever. Now my original plan was to put this together. into the chuck and rotate the circle, but as you can see here it's not quite centered so I'll have to find another way, so I've had to think about it and I think the best way to do it is to stick it to the waist block, mount it in the chuck and lower the live center so it's right in the center, then I'm going to leave it there until the glue dries now that the glue is ready, I can twist it nicely into a circle. that took a little longer than I expected but I needed to take my time and sneak up on it that way we got a nice tight fit which looks pretty tight to me now the next thing I need to do is glue this on now I just got .
To wait for the glue to dry, we can put it back on the lathe. Ah, I have my ball finished and it's time to sand and polish. Once I've done that, I'll explain what I'm doing with it. On the back, now it's time to explain why I drilled this little hole. It's so I know where the center was so I can drill a bigger hole and then once I've drilled that bigger hole I can put this threaded insert in and once I'm done. inserts glued on, we'll have a shift knob, considering I have some questionable eyes and some crooked bits, I think I did a good job getting that eight centered now, if you think so too let me know.
By pressing the like button I will also have this knob available in my store. I'll leave a link in the description. Now let's take a look at my ball.
