Mar 30, 2024
Disneyland's Splash Mountain will close forever, and on today's episode of Randomland we'll be there from the park's opening to its closing to see the full

experience

, the character thrill ride, and the historic moment when an attraction classic Disneyland closed forever thanks to this ride. It gets wet and it gets wild and it's a long way down, good morning everyone from Disneyland, where for better or worse today is the last day for Zippity doo-dah, that's right my friends, today is the last day for ride Disneyland's Splash Mountain, so we came. Here just before the park's official opening, literally minutes before opening, to join the crowds of people entering Walt Disney's original Magic Kingdom, many of whom have gathered here to try for one last Splash ride Mountain and see how satisfying things will be. there was no one in the parking lot there was no one at the entrance gates there was a second there where i almost thought the last day of Splash Mountain might not draw a crowd welcome to Disneyland okay it's happening Disneyland has opened this really feels like Groundhog's Day a bit because of course it was just a few months ago earlier this year that I was at Walt Disney World for the closing of their Splash Mountain so it feels like it's all happening again, didn't I just do this ?

Oh my god, would you look at the size of that crowd? Look at all those people heading to Critter Country just like they did in the summer of 1989 1990 91. when Splash Mountain was new and now all the rage here at Disneyland. Maybe because it feels like I just went down Splash Mountain in Florida and had the whole closing day

experience

or maybe it's simply because this is my home, Splash Mountain, and I haven't just been on this 8 billionth attraction. times in the last 34 years. of my life, but probably 50 times this last winter alone, but this farewell feels much more informal, the closing of Disney World felt like a carnival party, no one was mourning, it wasn't like a funeral like I said, it was like a party to say goodbye to an old friend and what I learned at Walt Disney World and what I'm already seeing here today is that Splash Mountain and I have many friends in common.

I guess check this out right after the park opens. It's pretty quiet here. Crater country, but this line, the line for Splash Mountain already extends from the park to the front of Pirates of the Caribbean. Would you look at the size of that crowd? Now let's compress. More and more people are going. to squeeze in the line as things progress, I don't expect it to start that far all day, but there's already a big crowd of party people here, so for the time being I've decided to skip the line and just come and see bug country now for the last time as Splash Mountains opens, but before it goes crazy look at this look how peaceful it is in bug country this is going to look a lot different when people start leaving that attraction , it will be great that there will be One Last Crazy Farewell here, that's Flash Mountain, there may not be much sun on the way, but oh my, now it's going to be a wonderful day for those of you who don't know or haven't somehow heard the reason.

The coaster is closing forever here at Disneyland and has already closed in Florida because it is being replaced. I arrived with Tiana's theme from The Princess and the Frog. Now that the two

mountain

s are more than three decades old, they were going to need a lot of maintenance. It was getting to the point where the

mountain

s were going to have to be partially rebuilt. Millions of dollars we would have to sink into these things and the way the modern Disney mentality works. Why spend millions of dollars on an old story about Brayer the rabbit? where there is some controversy about the film The live action parts of the film that these characters starred in in the 1940s the way they see it today, an easier topic to read, revamp it with a more modern princess, you Like it or not, whether you think it's better or not if Frozen at Epcot is any indication, well, they're usually right, any new Rider that teams up at Disney puts cigarette butts in seats and causes long lines, and that's exactly what will happen when this reopens with its new theme in the meantime. here in Anaheim all winter and spring, this walk was practically a walk, we walked with almost no lines, especially at night, but during the last weekend, certainly the last day that changed, there are people from all over the country on this one they're already online and believe me, they're very excited mate, it's already starting to feel like a party out here, even with the Marine cape on us, this is still wild, mate, one last day for old Briar Patch, well, we don't actually know that above.

The patch in Florida was closed when Splash Mountain closed, not sure if it will be closed, you'll know tomorrow with the trip, but certainly and inevitably the topic will be changed along with the mountain itself and if the way they removed things so quickly in Florida. as an indication, this might be one of the last times we see these carvings here of a rare rabbit, a rare bear, and a bear. Foxman, that's crazy because I remember being shocked when they put the carrots in there for the weird rabbit and all these brambles. I walked into the store when I was a very small child, they didn't build this building when they built Splash Mountain and it actually long predates their existence on this land before it was Critter Country when it was Bear Country, all with the Country Bear theme Jamboree actually.
Even before that, this was Disneyland's Indian Village, this humble log structure was the quote-unquote old Indian trading post. I made a whole video about that old village, so let's not talk about it anymore today, it was enough to see the old Briar Patch one last time. It's such a crazy time because you know all these little things, like the signs are going to change tomorrow, this attraction will be closed and that sign will probably disappear. Days like this are a little crazy because you're trying to take in all the little things of course, you want to take the time to enjoy the big things, like riding the attraction, and then of course you meet 1000 people at that you want to say hello and take fun photos and celebrate the closing together.
Now, fortunately, things can stop being stimulating very, very quickly. The ride itself is still here, there will still be a Giant Mountain there just with a different theme, so we will definitely be able to stand out here in the future and hear the screams of people

splash

ing and getting wet riding their disconnects along the rivers of America, but as much as it will be the same, it will also be very different, so I just like walking around listening to Zippity doodah play in the bushes for the last time and, above all, for me, the most fun part of a Un day like today is seeing how much fun everyone is having reliving the memories of taking the kids on these attractions for the last time and it's strange because we are saying goodbye to a part of our childhood, those of us who grew up riding this attraction, This is one of the first rides the first major e-ticket ride they added to Disneyland when I was old enough to appreciate and experience it.
Splash Mountain was all the rage when it opened here in '89 and I can still remember the whole little ad campaign the only way. outside there's a long way down into what was the other oh yeah you'll see your Splash life before your eyes you know it's funny we have puns on Splash because this ride was almost called Zippity River Run when it was first conceived by Imagineer Tony Baxter while stuck in traffic one day in 1983, which by the way makes Splash Mountain as old as I am, they only changed the name to Splash Mountain because Michael Eisner wanted to tie it to the action movie hit Real Splash. which was about such a weird siren, well that line seems a lot shorter than yesterday when we waited three hours to board Splash Mountain in the middle of the day because Lightning Lane, Pay Fast Pass Lane, it went all Heinbach and everything was backed up, so we should probably get in there quickly, especially while the early morning rush is more or less clear and it's not that bad out here, the only problem is that I keep seeing people just bathing in some disgusting teas, here's Bianca .
You fell in a very, very sick shirt, did you get wet? Yes, it's a cool t-shirt. Look, just bees. Oh look, we have a whole family with t-shirts. One Last Splash. Yeah, oh, you guys, how did you do it? Was it oh? That's amazing, so everything is satisfactory now everything, everything is good, look at this, you have all the equipment, you even have a Zippity Doo dot mask, look at your shirt, I've never seen this it's so vintage, no, the kind that It was Eastern Day, I've never seen that before, dude, that's cool, oh my god, look at this, it doesn't even look the right way.
You have all the characters. Oh, bear, look. I never saw the vultures or vultures anywhere. You have strange rabbits. It's already double. How long did you wait? Look at this, it's already become a little clearer. You know it'll be three hours later, but it's pretty clear now. I should get there very soon. I really feel underdressed. Everyone has themed shirts except me. Okay, that's kind of tasty, not too bad, especially since yesterday it said 109 and we actually waited three hours. It was nice to see that sign here and not Pirates of the Caribbean. This is a little better.
I have a feeling this is going to look very different later today. I have a feeling this whole bridge will be covered in photographers and this line will be Hein's box, man, look at this, this is so strange, look how empty it is for the moment, probably just for the moment. glory, yes, look at the size of that mountain, of course the mountain will still be here, but it won't have that distinctive old dead tree on top of it and it won't be called Chicopin Hill anymore, but that's okay, things change, that's what happens. oh my god I love this, look at this, why wasn't it like this yesterday?
Look at this when you touch the mountain, the pieces are falling apart, that's part of the reason why it needs to be renewed, it wasn't just about the re theme, it's definitely time to give Old Splash Mountain Man some love. Compare what we are seeing today to what the line was like yesterday. Look at the size of that pride. It was huge. Was occupied. It was wild. Things are definitely a little easier today. It's weird because when I was at Disney World for our Splash Mountain outfit, I kept thinking, this is the last

splash

, it didn't occur to me at all that day that we would have to do it again at Disneyland.
It's going to be strange to see a

complete

ly different mountain here. I wish I could get my hands on everything they pull off this mountain, in particular this is my favorite thing in front of Splash Mountain, this little wishing well right next to what it used to be. It's going to be the fast pass area around here, something I think a lot of people tend to overlook, but look at this, it's got Bray the bunny there with this stick and his bandanna ready to go on an adventure he's had enough of. This old Briar Patch he thinks adventures are about to be born.
I'm going to say goodbye to me in the laughing places where I'll be talking about the laughing place. It's time to line up. Everyone has a place to laugh. exception I was going to say it's very different than Disney World Disney World was full from the beginning of the day and stayed that way until closing, when I realized it was Tuesday. Disneyland is a much more local park when all those pass holders, I mean magic key holders. Get off work, you can bet on your candy corn dogs. We'll probably see this line get pretty crowded. Look these.
I want them when they take them away. Send them to my house. Look at the tall thing. I never realized. Scotland. Green Briar Vine growing on it, ah, here we go to this old rustic bar one last day, just don't bring cigarettes, look at all the old tools in here, all these old pieces of equipment and farming accoutrements, look at this, I can. I can't believe how I'm here now, look at that, this story didn't happen yesterday or the day before yesterday, but a long, long time ago, it was one of those Zippity Doodah days, so remember when you were a kid when this ride opened and I went to Walt Disney Elementary School and then they send characters to our school and we have to learn that song and do a zip performance.
Now I'm wearing these ugly tan pants because they dry faster than jeans, the same ones I wore on Splash Mountain at Disney World when that closed and I'm going to be totally honest with you. I'm not above cheating, so Ally and I bought ponchos. Part of you wants to say no, I'll just get wet. The last climb soaks in as much as you can, but you will feel it. differently once you walk with your pants soaked, let me tell you look at all these happy people heading towards the Laughing place, look how worn out this railing is after 30 years of people coming here and leaning on it her while they're in line and looking down, look at all these old posters.
I would like to be able to contactTony Baxter himself, the creator of Splash Mountain, would be the last to fall, but it seems his splashing days are over. We had a good race. 33 34 Years of Splash It's been 40 years since he originally conceived the idea and look at this now it's washing away the crowd gathers to witness the last whiplash look at this photo shoot and is moved to see how much Splash Mountain meant to sew so many people man I can only imagine how it would feel if it was an emotional day, if all of us fans are here waiting for those last records to drop.
Tony's eyes are sweating with respect, after all, this was his creation and here he goes, he has all these people. who mostly don't even realize it, but the creator of Splashbound is laughing in front of them like crazy, they are too busy pulling Florida and animating the

final

record, but for me, I don't think anything is going to top Tony Baxter. here eyes sweaty with respect as they see how much his trip meant to so many and look at that as Tony left, the last civilians came down the mountain. The Last Mountain officially closed to the public forever and now everyone is waiting here to see some of the cast members come down.
Soon it will all apparently happen again, oh it got so awkward there, so nice that we can't sustain our cheers here in California. I guess we're not good at keeping them holding for long, small lung capacity if you were working on that mountain. This night has to be so amazing, it's so short, we can do better than that, we tried so hard, we all lost our voices on the trip and it became silent again, yes, everything is a success, was there anyone in that? No, that was that, that was empty. It was empty no it's like my hair it's all happening again I can't lose you twice they're trying to keep the sun but it's starting to fade this is like what happened in Florida on a smaller scale because people realize that there is A sunrise is upon them, it's happening, it's closing, this is it, now everything seems to be over, but in Florida, when all the cast members are done, they are the ones who control the attraction, the operators of the attraction changed with them and everything was said and done.
I think that's what everyone is waiting to see, just a few more cast members will take the

final

step, okay? In that Critter country it is now clear. I'm pleasantly surprised that Disneyland decided to let the gangs stay here to allow the proud adoring fans to cheer and finalize what everyone is waiting for and this will be the actual Last Splash cast member. Member token lights are on CE, they are absent Hello everyone and a stunning silence wondering if that was the last one. Unbelievable, can you imagine if Bob Iger came out and said yeah, oh no, the records are slowing down the area, the music stopped, there are no more records.
Now we're just waiting to see if the water goes out, the trams are probably over, we'll all walk back to the car with our soaked shoes, I don't know if those are the superpowers you want. Coca-Cola, yes, yes, that's true, that's true, why don't they turn off the water? Oh my god, turn it off. Many cast members are coming this way, maybe one of these cast members knows how to turn off the water. Is anyone on him? water switches can't find it where the tap is apparently they couldn't figure out how to turn off the water charity has told us that's it final photos Splash Mountain has done its duty it's time to go home and sleep wow that's officially it no Bray rabbit no fireworks here no company bigwigs you know what I'm not going to lie once I saw Tony Baxter get emotional that's when I almost choked a little honestly it doesn't feel real like I said just having I went through this in Florida, basically what it feels like five minutes ago and then you show up and ride it all winter and spring again, it's definitely a surreal feeling, but you know, we don't want to be the last ones out of here, it's time Since we came home, these cast members have been amazing here, super nice to all the fans, super nice to tell us all that it's okay to stay here, but now get your last photos, all that kind of stuff, so we really have a debt of gratitude to them. for staying here to give us one last look at Splash Mountain 1989. 2023.
It's so strange that it's not even 12:30 yet, on normal days, when the park is open until midnight, there would still be people here with all that and waiting . for those last few logs missing and everything looks like it should be five in the morning, this is so weird, okay gang, that's our last look at Splash Mountain, it's obscured by the giant trees over there, we can't go to The Far. Side to see it, that was it, Ally, it's all done, oh man, isn't this place great when it's empty? How much is the ticket to come here in the middle of the night?
Super surreal leaving Disneyland when everything is empty and beautiful. so after a closing and suddenly you realize that people are waiting to start working here cleaning and power washing and everything else there is still a big crowd behind us delaying and going slow I no longer feel like delaying my friends what's done is done, Splash Mountain is no more and the only ride I'm interested in now is the ride home to my bed, thank you all for watching, thank you all for being great, if you've enjoyed the last 10 years of videos from Disneyland and all over the United States and sometimes further afield, please do me a favor, just a small favor, and check out the links below.
