Testing Two of the Most Unique PDGA Approved Discs (the Sector G1R1 and the ODDgrip G1)

Apr 09, 2024
Hello, my name is Jesse from trashpanda and today I have two of the

most

recent and innovative albums on the market to decide once and for all if more innovative means more, better. So today we will look at two

discs

from two different manufacturers. that you may have never heard of and one of my favorite things about each of them is that they are currently both made up of one person respectively, which means that each of these albums represents the blood, sweat and tears of an individual and I can't help it. but it resonates with that a bit, so to start we're going to look at the

g1r1

sector

and right off the bat I just have to say that the G1 R1 might be one of the strangest drives I've ever felt.

It's not necessarily a bad thing, but I've felt a lot of different records and this one is, at the very least, original. The idea behind

sector

discs

is that the bottom of the tire actually has two different parts: the grip section and the wing. that you could have a whole line of discs where the grip stays the same and the wing changes, which means you could have a bunch of discs that feel the same but fly differently, so overall I think the idea is really interesting and This is an incredible test. of the concept and I'm actually especially excited because Mike approached me in February about these discs and to be completely transparent when I first saw the drawings from him, he was very skeptical, but since he reached out he was able to get them.

them and manufactures them through a partnership with nsh custom discs. I feel like it's enough talking about it for now. We need to fix this in terms of online stability. It says finished and somewhere else I found out that it feels like a Thunderbird and flies like a zone so we'll see oh man this is so funky okay go weird with the G1 R1. I feel like I have a decently solid pros and cons list and we'll start with the main Pro, this record seemed like it went exactly where I wanted it to go.

I wasn't expecting it at all, but the excessive stability made it super consistent and it just landed under the basket every time. Okay, not always, but al

most

, but the main Pro would give it. It is simply the idea. I think there's definitely something to the idea of keeping the grip section the same while varying the rest of the disc. But ultimately, it's going to take a lot of different records to prove that concept, and even though I didn't necessarily try. I feel like there are some really

unique

opportunities for grips on the bottom of a disc when it comes to summer-specific comfort or forehand or different things like that, so there's definitely something there, but the biggest downside is that the grip is really big and very sharp, it says it feels like a Thunderbird, but I guess it's actually even a little thicker.

I'll check it later and maybe put something on the screen and the edge of the grip is super sharp so every throw felt like it was just like ripping my fingers off, a simple rounding could help with that so who knows maybe the next version will be even better according to the naming convention. I would have to assume it will be like the G2 R1 or something. So that's the

g1r1

sector and if you've had a chance to release it, I'd love to hear your comments below and now we'll move on from one of the strangest records I've ever released to what I can confidently say it is. the strangest album I've ever released real quick before talking about a really strange album.
I want to tell you about my Atlas Pioneer, it is the bag that I have been using for the last year and that I love mainly for its size combined with its affordability, but there is something about this bag that makes me like it even more at some point, this bag It was manufactured with some small flaw, which makes this Pioneer destined for a landfill and honestly, that's the craziest part because I've been using it for so long. and I still have no real idea what the defect is, so instead of adding it to a landfill for some minor defect that doesn't actually affect the functionality of this bag at all, Atlas contacted us to see if we wanted to make an exchange and collaborate to give their bags a second chance needless to say I'm excited to help Atlas announce their second Pioneer Factory which comes complete with a special patch for this trash era bag and the trash panda logo printed on each side a From now on they are available. for just $45 on their site and you can get an extra five dollars off with code Junk Panda.
Plus, if that wasn't enough, they used sustainable packaging materials and planted a tree with every order placed on their site, so check out the link. in the description or visit atlasdgs.com to get your Pioneer Factory second today, this is the weird G1 grip, well actually it's the box, but I had to start with the box because I feel like it's so sick that when you open it You get the disc itself, obviously, but then there's some stickers, an awesome mark on the front that defines fairness and grip, which I think is just fantastic, and then there's this little one that looks like it's a little certification of authenticity. or something like that, which again I believe.
It is simply Super Rad, the interesting thing about the G1 is what they call its undermold technology. Basically, they've taken the gyro technology that we're so familiar with on MVP drives, so instead of putting it on the outside edge, they've put it on. on the inside of the bottom of the rim and on the bottom of the disc and it immediately feels fantastic. Putting that type of plastic on the bottom makes it much more grippy and just the hand feel is so solid that the top plastic feels pretty standard. maybe even some Baseline, something I would say between Baseline and Premium Plastics, but the bottom and this grip feel really good.
It's supposed to be a wonky putting approach disc that's apparently just one point and shoots exactly 160 feet or more, whereas it's just one. person behind the strange grip, they have actually worked with over 20 disc golfers Expert Plastic Engineers Etc. to make this possible. To be honest, I'm really excited about this record and to be completely transparent, I bought it myself because as soon as I saw the website and I saw The Branding and I saw the idea. I couldn't help it, okay, let's give G1 a weird grip for a couple of throws. Something that I think is super interesting about this record is that they actually have three different flight numbers for three different ones. speeds, which I think is a really cool idea, so at one speed it should be like two zero zero at two speeds it should be three minus one zero and at three speeds it should be three minus two one foreign this feels so good after a Lots of throws with the occasional G1 grip.
I can immediately say that the best thing is that the grip on this thing is beautiful, honestly it's been a long time since I immediately fell in love with a disc. First time holding it, but this feels so good. I really think the idea of moving the gyro technology to the inside of the rim to allow for a nice grip texture was brilliant. I'm not sure if that maintains the gyro technology. doing what it's supposed to do because it's facing out, but it's not completely facing out, so I guess someone smarter than me can let me know in the comments, but overall it feels great and it also flies too.
Beautifully, I'm not even going to try the flight numbers because we're also in elevation and it flies different for any arm speed and all that, but I can say with confidence that this is the disc version of a definitive cover, so if you love it The ultimate disc flight, you'll love the flight of this thing. As far as cons go, I have two things, but they're both super minimalist, so keep in mind that neither of them would stop me from purchasing this record again. The first is that we throw it away. here, so I'm not sure if this is perfect since we were on the grass, but because of the soft, grippy plastic on the bottom of the edge, I have a feeling it would tend to be eaten up a little faster. probably more like a basic type plastic if you are around like stones, concrete, dirt, etc.
The other thing is that because of the overmolded technology there are four injection points on the bottom of the rim and they are a little more noticeable, so I'm just saying that you have to be intentional about where you grip the disc, but that's just the manufacturing process and I'm sure they can improve it over time as well. I should also say that there is one pro that I forgot to mention again, we are on the grass so we didn't necessarily see it, but I have a feeling that this sticky plastic on the bottom would also prevent unwanted jumping.
Overall, with the G1 and ironically the g1r1 is more innovative, more means better, as for the G1, I have To say absolutely, for the G1 R1, I'm going to give it a maybe, to be honest, I'm really excited for that second one. third fourth iteration because the grip on this one was a little too uncomfortable, that being said, it's just one person's thoughts. So if you've pitched this or just have an opinion, I'd love to hear it in the comments below. The moral of the story for me is that the future of disc golf is super exciting, as always, thanks so much for watching.
Subscribe to support the channel and see you next time. We'll do it right, so I know I should technically grab from the grip section, but I just want to try it from the wing to see how I feel. like it would offer more versatility if there was something there, but it also feels like it could slip out of your hand, so we'll see, yeah, no, why tractors go around, why it's like the most Hummy tractor one would imagine. as
