SpaceX Unveils Groundbreaking Update: Inside Musk's Latest Starship Revelation!

last. Additionally, all external stringers appear to be absent from the new design. However, it's important to note that SpaceX's own renderings tend to be very inaccurate, so take what you see with a grain of salt. The only change that was definitely made on purpose is the lack of armor in the engine area. "Raptor 3 won't need a heat shield either." We got a big

update

on the beast that will be the Raptor 3 engine! There is a strong possibility that SpaceX will integrate the Raptor 3 engines into the V2 Starship, although it remains to be seen if this will happen from the first prototypes.

The Raptor 3 render looks like it's missing something. However, Musk assured that this is what the third generation of this engine looks like. When Raptor 2 was introduced, people also doubted that SpaceX would be able to simplify it that much, and yet here we are. We even got video of what is most likely a Raptor 3 static fire, and just look at this flame: it's beautiful! The trick here is to integrate one thing into another, using tighter packaging. Most of Raptor 2's components are still there; they are simply invisible   as they are embedded elsewhere. Comparing the two generations, sea level thrust improves by 50 tons of force, while the vacuum version gains 48 tons of force improvement.

Those are huge improvements! The main difference between this generation of Raptor and the previous one is the addition of internal cooling channels to many of its components. Again, tighter packaging. Basically, the cryogenic fuel will circulate not only through the nozzle but throughout the engine. Now, why would they need so much cooling? Apparently, Raptor 3 can be used without any armor on the vehicle or engine. Consequently, the Booster could remove a lot of mass. The shakers, as SpaceX internally calls the engine shielding, will be gone! The only downside to this measure, however, is that without armor or containment compartments, an engine explosion could prove fatal to the entire mission.

We may not see this generation for a few years, but the foundations are already being laid for its inception. It lengthens the Booster tank even further and introduces what will likely be the fourth generation of the Raptor engine. Elon Gates... :D This change would push Super Heavy past the staggering threshold of 10,000 tons of thrust at takeoff, that's almost tripling the power of the Saturn V! Can you see it? Amazing figures. t, the ship itself is projected to reach almost comical proportions, being just 10 meters or 33 feet shorter than the height of the propeller. With expanded tanks and the addition of three more engines, this version of the ship could embark on some crazy missions, possibly carrying tons of payload to geostationary orbit without needing to refuel.
In an ideal scenario, this generation could cause Starship's launch cost to plummet to between $2 million and $3 million. While that figure would not directly translate into the purchase price for customers, it would significantly reduce the cost per kilogram in orbit. The cost of a reconditioned Falcon 9 launch, estimated at around $15 million, is largely due to the expense of manufacturing a new second stage for the rocket. Musk claims that a Starship launch could cost less than the original Falcon 1 launch, which cost around $9 million, and this is certainly plausible. All these updates will be done to achieve   one main goal.
Say it with me: "Make life multiplanetary" To make life multiplanetary! The colonization of Mars has been a recurring topic in Elon Musk's presentations, but this time we received more concrete details than ever. For starters, establishing a self-sustaining colony on Mars - according to SpaceX's vision - would require transporting approximately one million people and one million tons of cargo to the Red Planet. Previously, there was talk that Starship could simply load up on more fuel and launch directly to Mars whenever it wanted. However, Elon has now outlined a more realistic approach, sticking to the traditional launch window every 26 months when Earth and Mars align during the so-called transfer window.
During that period, we could see up to ten daily Starship launches, with the goal of transporting 250,000 tons of cargo to Mars each launch period. 10 pitches a day? How am I supposed to convey that? We will also need an elongated Felix. This ambitious timeline could allow for the establishment of a self-sustaining Martian city within two decades! Achieving this would require a staggering production rate of Starships, potentially reaching several vehicles per day. While SpaceX has released some optimistic projections, we should temper our expectations. Creating a thousand Starships is no easy task and we are currently nowhere near that number.
However, this may change in the future. Musk made a comparison to the 1.85 million Tesla vehicles produced last year. At one point they said the same thing about electric vehicles. It's doable even if it hasn't been done before. When it comes to the first missions to Mars, most people who embark on this monumental journey probably wouldn't return to Earth. Do not panic! That doesn't mean they won't be able to return. Musk simply says they won't want to come back. Initially, the ships that will make the trip will not return; instead, they will be reused as materials to build habitats and other infrastructure on Mars.
A key milestone in supporting life on the Red Planet involves producing methane, used as Starship fuel, on the planet itself. The Sabatier process makes it possible! The process requires a large amount of CO2 and H2O, which Mars has in its atmosphere and in the soil, but also a significant amount of energy, possibly the most difficult resource to obtain once there. A slightly worrying point raised during the presentation is the

revelation

that SpaceX is not currently working on any of the infrastructure necessary to live and survive on Mars. Their hope is that once the rocket is ready, other companies will want to join them on the mission.
While this means that a Martian city is still a long way off, the improvements and plans surrounding Starship make me optimistic that we will at least see a manned flyby to Mars by the 2030s.
