inside a tastefully constructed chest that coordinates perfectly with many living rooms and offices. When the Chestphone is not in use, it transforms into a warm addition to your home. The Chestphone is also available in faux carved walnut with a beige handset. - Yes, the Chestphone. In fact, it is a chest. Thanks to Mr. Macintosh for giving this to me at the Vintage Computer Festival Midwest in 2021. Alright, let's go ahead and test our recorder call here to see if we have power and whatnot. Well, we have power. It was on rewind. So I'll put it in response mode.

Well, let's see. What do we want to do here? How to record our outgoing ad. I guess we should do that first. So it's on, plug in the microphone. Oh, I can't wait to use this little guy. Slide the main control lever to the record position and wait for the LED to flash. I guess this. Well. Alright, we've got this little flashing call LED and it just says press control to start recording. Greetings, This is an outgoing announcement from LGR  . What are you even saying? You know, I had kind of an example message. I should have read that.

Oh yeah. Hello, this is me. Thanks for calling. I can't answer the phone right now, but please leave your name, the time you are calling, and your phone number. I will return to take your call as soon as I can. You can start talking as soon as you hear the beep. That was strong. Okay, and it says, it will start playing automatically. Oh! "Greetings, this is an outbound ad from LGR. What do you say? You know, I had some kind of example message. I should have read that. Oh, yeah. Hi, it's me. Thanks for calling. I'll call you back as soon as I can. You can start talking as soon as you hear a beep." Oh, that's the intense feeling of memories coming back. And that sounds horrible in the best of ways. It's interesting to feel that whole mechanism like it's moving there. I mean , it's pretty simple. I want to try that remote at some point. But let's go ahead and get a call. Passing by here   because it's connected. So let's do that. I'm the one calling from my other number here. Yeah, but I'm going to redo my greeting before that because it was terrible.

thing. If you want to leave a message, I don't know what's wrong with you, but go ahead. This woodgrain thing is listening and recording and you're in the room. from the 70s. At least you will be once you've done whatever, beeps and all. Oh yeah, that was definitely better. Yeah, I have to call myself from a laptop here, just online, to the phone I is connected to the gateway. Calling now. Four rings should then ring and then the

will answer. Greetings, welcome to an LGR answering machine thing.
If you want to leave a message, I don't know what's wrong with you, but go ahead. This wooden thing is listening and recording, and you're in the '70s room. At least you will be once it's over, any beeps and stuff. Hello what's going on? Oh no. Ah, feedback. Ah! Well, that was disturbing. I should have silenced one thing or another. Well, I guess we can hear our call now. I can see the LED is flashing. It could be a little disturbing. Yes, we can rewind and play. It appears to be a nice, strong mechanism. So that's good. "Hey, what's going on?
Ah, comments. Ahh!" That was a message from answering machine hell, but that's pretty much what I expected. Well, this works absolutely wonderfully. I mean, you know, it's pretty much going to be a glorified fixture in the background of the eventual '70s and '80s living room. But you know, the fact that it's completely functional and with modern hardware, ah, it's just a fun mix of yeah , tapes and Bluetooth and VoIP and all kinds of things that, I don't know, a mix of things that really amuses me. Alright, let's see if we can play a message through the remote by calling it.
So call your phone and press a button for two seconds. During the announcement the messages will be played. It seems simple enough. Calling myself now. We'll see if we can listen to a message I just recorded there earlier. Hey, it totally worked. Ah, it started working. He started doing... eh. It started making this quick beep. I saw that it also had something about rapid beeping. Yes, during the announcement, press the button again. During rapid beeps, expect a short start. I wasn't trying to do that. I didn't press it again and it went bad. In fact, this is the fifth time I've tried it.
I think something is going on, I don't know, like digital weirdness and things that happen with compression when you call through a VoIP service and modern phones and stuff. Because   even when I turn off some of the noise reduction and  the different options that would change this,   that's all it's going to do right there. Oh good. So if we went back here, I can hear at least what I had here when I was trying to call and play. I thought a little They Might Be Giants would be appropriate there. Well, anyway, that's it, I guess. This definitely works.
However, ideally you would want to use it with a real landline phone that doesn't have any weird digital artifacts, compression, noise reduction, and all that other kind of stuff going on. Otherwise, I mean, it makes a lot of sense. He hears that specific tone and knows what to do. I can't imagine that's very safe at all. For example, if someone else had one of these and it made the same tone, then they could access your answering machine by calling your number. I mean, it seems that way. I don't know, maybe there are slight differences and this remote control is paired with this recorder call.
Anyway. - And that's it for this LGR thing! Just a little filler while I continue moving into my new place,

things up and whatnot, which of course also involves putting together a retro room with faux wood paneling, ugly lamps, and furniture that I think will look and feel nicer. complete with this lovely 40 year old answering machine. And the mix of Bluetooth calls over the Internet via cassette tapes and old phones just makes me happy. And I hope you enjoy watching this nonsense come together. And stick around to see more LGR stuff in the works, especially as I continue to go through storage and rediscover old stuff I have in there.
And as always, thanks for watching!
