$150,000 Toyota Tacoma Race Truck Walk Around

Apr 04, 2024
you need an inch and a half inch three quarters, but all of these panels are pretty much on your firewall that the car is built into you can't move it, take it off, which sometimes makes it very difficult to get things under the dash, so we have these panels all over the

truck

, so if we have a problem during the

race

and we have a blown fuse, maybe it's because this

truck

actually uses the original original fuse box and computer and all that, so we still have them, well , you guys took everything we got, yeah, it's the only way to make the supercharger actually work like it's supposed to because we have to.

Is it an OEM TRD supercharger here so the panels just come off so there are these three there are three screws here do you take them all out? off it just makes cleaning easier makes getting to things easier easy on the truck is also a little bit stronger than your normal firewall so okay Brandon let's talk about the back of this truck what's going on back here man? There's a lot going on back here. When you think about a regular toy Tacoma Tundra, any truck, you have a bed, you can use the bed, you can put a dirt bike in the back, you can have a tool box, yes, you have leaf springs. you have a bed here, you're right, we still have the full frame, but other than that, I mean our batteries are back here, our coolers are in the back, both the transmission and the radiator, we have big fans, we have two size tires full 37 inches. he's got oil back here uh oil on both sides training fluid uh motor oil brake fluid anything we might need when we're in the middle of nowhere and we're not close to our equipment, right, that's the hard part about going down. competing is that you really have to have a lot of the things that you're going to need in the truck because you can be 50 or 100 miles from your team during these

race

s and that means that you and your partner driver are alone and this guy is fast, trust me.

More Interesting Facts About,

150 000 toyota tacoma race truck walk around...

I have chased them all over Mexico and there is no way to catch them. We do our best, yes, we have, we have our right moments, but yes, like I said, we have this whole thing. -Spare parts we have two optimal batteries on both sides. There are a lot of accessories on this car, so one battery is not enough, so we have two. If you come back here and look at this, our radiator, unlike most normal trucks, is On the front we have our radiator right here, that's where it sits under this aluminum shroud that we have and then right in here is the our transmission cooler.

The reason is that we don't want these precious things that keep our car cool. the front where they're going to throw rocks maybe you'll run into a rock, a tree or something you want to protect, so back here there are two fans on the outside, one on the inside, one sucking another in a worn out, so That's another big difference with a normal truck is that our cooling system is in the back along with our batteries and our cats back here, fluids, everything, you also have oxygen, right, I know your homemade product has a place where you can connect oxygen. then the car, that is, both the driver and the co-driver, this is called the Parker pump system, what it is is a filtered air system with a hose that connects inside your helmet or on the top of your helmet, no matter how your helmet is configured.

And what that is is that sometimes you're following someone on the ground for miles and it's just dust, dust, dust, and since we don't have a windshield, it's right in our face, so you put your helmet on. down and you have the fresh air coming in through the side of your house and it kind of gives you some fresh air to breathe when you're in that really dusty environment. That's awesome, man, going back, I know, I know, we started here. What do you have for your rear axle? So we don't have the standard Toyota axle. In fact, we have no plant on most trucks or flange axles.
You take out the axle and the brakes come with it. We have what is called complete. flows into the rear end which is where the hubs are actually bolted separately to the shell and their axles can be turned in either direction, they just slide in and are grooved on both sides, they have the same pattern on both sides, so we have uh nine inch based curved engineering so the third member that's there is four nine inch based it's a little bit bigger than the Toyota it's better to compete a little bit harder but actually this race is our good friend Carl, my co-pilot.
Also, what do you know about Nitro? A bad ass sent us here. One of the rudest third member butts I've ever seen. It looks incredible. I mean, I'll be honest with you. I didn't want to put it on the truck I just wanted to put it on my dining room table or on the mantel because it's pretty, it's beautiful, it looks amazing, I don't even want to touch it, it looks like a trophy, it really is, it's like the most beautiful . Something that's ever been put on this truck and unfortunately it's on the bottom, as soon as you get to the deep end, it's going to be ruined, but it's actually a 10-inch gear instead of a nine-inch gear, which is a little bigger and a little stronger. and we actually use a 586, that's the gear ratio we use and you're running 37 inch tires on a second generation 4.0 engine, right, yeah, it's a 4.0 supercharger with a turbo 400 manual valve body transmission, or three speeds, what a manual valve. body means there is no clutch, it's like a dirt bike, um, if you have it in third gear and you start the car, it will start in third gear, no, it won't go down to free second, it won't go from second to third, you have to physically putting it in the gear you want, there's just no clutch, that's what all the best ones use.
It is very durable, definitely better than the average OEM transmission. These trucks are a great size. What size shock absorbers do they have in the rear? here in the back we have 3.0 king coilovers and 18 inch long bypasses, 16 inch long bypasses, and how long does it take you to tune those throws because I guess you have to tune this perfectly for how low we are. In fact, we're heading in two days to Placer City, California, which is closer to where I live to prepare for the Baja 1000, which is in a couple of weeks, so we'll probably spend about three or four hours there. running up and down the pole line to mark it, only the people watching us will drive next to us on the road taking videos and we will go back and watch the videos between what people see, what we see on the video and what is feel.
On the truck we can make adjustments to the compression and rebound of our bypass tubes to make it react the way we want, so the last time we were there, the first run we did down the line was 50 to 58 miles per hour. we went out a couple hours above 83. so we went about 25 so oh wow I mean it's 50 faster almost that's good just just tuning your shots just tuning just turning tubes and stuff like that , so I'm looking forward to Saturday and seeing what we do. You can get out of this, that's going to be interesting, man, let me ask you this last time we were out, you know, filming your races, you came back and all your fiberglass was destroyed, I remind you, I think you only had one panel, yeah , as?
Racing is expensive. Racing in general is expensive, so what you're trying to do is not try to maintain your car in every field. You try to go your way, you know, so that race I decided to do whatever I wanted. I wanted to know, screw up the tires, screw up the bed size and whatever, I just decided we'll do it all once, I guess I hope we got it fixed, but actually because of that I was able to upgrade the fenders. to the headrest of the third generation

tacoma

, so we had kind of a generic headrest there that was used on several different brands and trucks, but given the opportunity that we no longer had our headrests with us, I said this is the time when we have to put There are more Toyotas here, so this is the cleanest truck I've ever seen.
I knew we had to film it and show it to them before they notice. This maniac takes it out and covers it completely in mud and yes, that's what it's supposed to be. to look nice and dirty, but it's always nice to see them when they're together because what this shows here isn't just about me, it's about my entire team, like my team has worked their asses off for the last two weeks to to get it. this call like that and not just my team, all the sponsors here, everyone we know, getting us the parts on time, getting us what we need, getting us what we need and then some, you know, instead of getting a regular third member, we get a number of new build aluminum badasser, all the sponsors came together and this was a great group effort between the team sponsors, it was the same and it shows, I mean that's the glory of this, is that those long nights in the store when it's like 11 at night, I have an hour's drive home and it's been like this for seven days in a row.
Sometimes when you stand back and you're at a show or whatever and you see what all of you and your friends your team that your sponsors have put together makes it all worth it it's amazing man and yeah it won't look so in a couple of weeks, but we are going to enjoy it while we can. Okay, brandon, the overlanders we have. tons of lights, but nothing like this. You know, you have two lights here stacked on top of each other. You have a 40 up there, it's a 40, a 40 and then you have three capsules on each side, really?
I need all that light man the better you can see at night the faster you can go right and ridgid has always done a really good job of connecting us to the best life they got at any given time since 2010. I've never really I've had problems at night and actually, believe it or not, I'm faster at night, I enjoy the night more and I think it's because I can see better, you know, drinking, okay, sometimes the sun is right over our head and We can't see when the sun is shining straight down you don't see those potholes the same way when you're driving in total darkness and you have your lights on you can see the mouse and for me that actually helps me graduate more fast.
I can see the depth of the ground better at night. Impressive, but there's a lot going on here. You're right, so let's start with the little ones first. These here are our D.O.T approval. It's pretty good. the ones we can have on the street because we have some sections of the road during the race where we are under a strict school minute on public roads because unfortunately it is part of low, there are small sections where we are on the highway, we can only have legal lights on there so these two here will turn on just to go down the highway at night, but as soon as we hit the ground the fun starts yeah start flipping the switches and it's. just daylight so these guys by the way when these guys are in the halo knowing he's sick you have just the white here and then these guys go that's really cool I gotta see it at night so we have a couple here, these are um spot and hyperspot combos uh, they're a newer style of light and these are the newer generation of uh, this light actually projects outwards, but half of it projects more outwards, so so we're getting even more distance from these.
It turns on the same thing with these guys right here, this is a hyper point and a point and they're at a little bit of an angle because you don't want all the lights to be all the way forward, we're in the middle of nowhere with no street lighting, sometimes not. moonlight and all we have are our lights and having them pointed a little bit gives us more visibility on this side, you know, sometimes we're doing some crazy test turns and stuff and it's nice to be able to see when your car is on angles what's on both sides you know and again that makes you faster being able to see more makes you faster and now this guy up here is probably the most impressive it's brand new is the rigid light adapts gps this light bar changes the shape in that it projects the light based on how fast you're driving and I remember when you first sent it out like, damn, how am I going to hook this up to my car?
Man, he says, the GPS system is inside the light block there is no, you don't have to plug it in, there are no junctions, nothing, it's just a normal light switch like any other, just to turn it on and off, but it knows how fast you drive and will be projected between points. Hyper punctual flooding, whatever while you're going and it's amazing, it's amazing, let me ask you this Brandon, how much do you drive at night? Well, the last 1000 up is 127 miles, so it's like non-stop by the time you start the race. the road and I remember chasing you we were awake for 36 hours, I think we were like we didn't sleep or anything, I don't know how I did it,I think it's the adrenaline of the race, but uh, how?
How long do you drive for, the time limit is 50 hours, yeah okay, now the 36 you're talking about is a couple of hours before the race and we're up there, yeah, and after 50 hours it's just the time for the race, so you have to think that it's 48 hours, I'll possibly see the sun rise three times, three times, right, I mean, that's why it's true, that's why you ask why I have so many lights because I need them because I half literally Half the race I'll be on an all black guy which has to be one of the craziest races I've ever heard of.
Honestly, you've seen the sun rise twice. It's pretty crazy, you're watching it for the third time. I mean, you watch the videos, they're not lying when they say the packages start to look like people and the people start to look like cacti and when you start seeing that, you know you've been up for a long time, you know the finish line is getting closer. Up, yeah, and you've been up for a long time, so Brandon, before I let you go, man, if anyone watching this video really wanted to come in on the down and compete and start like you started, you know what you would recommend.
Don't give up, okay, don't give up, number one, number two, don't let anything anyone tells you stop you from doing what you want. It doesn't have to be racist, it could be anything, it could be a job. , it could be something you're making up, but if I stopped running because people told me to stop, I wouldn't be here today, but I use that as my energy. and my fire to get to where I am today I went and got a second job at gp I lived long enough to be able to make enough money to do the race because I didn't mean I was 18 19 so money is not a problem you can make it happen right, you can make anything happen if you try hard enough, you know, and the difference was that I was in the garage with my only friend at the time and my girlfriend building pieces that weren't right, but it was what He took me there and my friends who were drinking and going to the bar and going, you know, I was so dedicated to my garage and my truck and that's how I got it.
That's amazing Brandon, thank you so much for your time, you guys enjoyed it. this video, make sure to hit the like button if you haven't subscribed yet, make sure you do and I'll see you in the next video.
