Roland KT10 First Impressions

Apr 05, 2024
Hello what's going on? My name is Justin, welcome to sixty-five drops. This is my

first

impression of the Katie Ten kick pedal before we got into the pedal and noise and all that. I should probably explain who this is for

first

. this is for really desperate drummers in low volume situations, we all buy electronic drums because we want to be able to practice at midnight and make recordings whenever we want, regardless of humidity and all that, that's the good thing about electronic drums, but sometimes it's normal . The electronic kick drum is too loud. This is something very common among people who live in apartments because you think you are silent, you think you are being a good concerned citizen by buying an electronic drum kit, but you like the vibration when playing. a mesh bass drum tower or a rubber bass drum tower, although it goes directly through the rafters and the people below can hear you from the beginning.

I will tell you this is not as good as a normal mesh kick tower, those always will be. It will be better, but as far as low-level situations go, this is probably the best you can get, so it should probably give you some context on what he was playing with. I was using this kick pedal with a Ron octopod and an fd9. Hi-Hat Controller Pedal This is like an ultimate micro setup. I'll probably have to make a video dedicated to this later, but this entire package you see here will cost about a thousand dollars. The whole setup is pretty quiet but of course we will focus on the kick drum pedal so here is an example of sound just from the photos and video clips, even without touching it you can see that they are using good materials and that the quality Solid construction, probably lasts quite a few years.

More Interesting Facts About,

roland kt10 first impressions...

The nice thing about this pedal is that it actually has an extra input jack on the side so you can swap both together and use them as a double bass drum adjustment panel. People ask me about this and Yes, you can use them as a double kick pedal and you will only use one input on the drum module because you are chaining them together. That's very good. I'm not going to pretend this is a new feature we've seen. like the fat cat pedals and like the yamaha gtx 500 series kick drum, but it's a nice feature regardless.

Now when it comes to compact kick pads you have two main options, you will usually choose between option number one. it's kind of like the yamaha kayuu 100 or the kick pedal on the roll-on TT that came with, these are basically, you know, very similar to the hi-hat controller pedals, they're quiet but they feel like shit because they don't have the natural feel of a kick pad or an acoustic kick drum, they are basically very quiet, that's what they try to do and that's what they excel at and of course option number two is to buy pads like a KD 7 or pentek k3.

These have that angled beater and they feel great because you are using a real bass drum beater but the problem is they are loud, you still have that influence of a bass drum beater hitting a hard surface and that only produces volume with this rolling kt . 10 is like a middle ground between the two, it doesn't feel as good as a KD 7 or a pentek k3, but it's a lot quieter and as you can see here, that's how the whole pedal works, it has this reverse. Action firing mechanism is a very simple design, but in this case that's a good thing because it's more complex, more things can go wrong, simpler, less things can go wrong.
Now I'm not going to lie when describing how this pedal feels, it's a little hard. It has a natural feel and is fun to play, but it has a little more resistance than I would prefer and I can't really do that hyper-fast double that I like to do with regular kick pads because you don't really get the bounce. after the initial impact, but it feels good to play and there will be small sacrifices here and there to lower the volume. Fuel is a really hard thing to quantify because every drummer wants something different in any of the kick pedals, which is why there are 5,000 different companies that make kick drum pedals, so I'd be honest, you'd probably have to go to a store, play. this for yourself and make a decision based on that and not just my review, but come on, if we're being Honestly, if you're really looking for the best possible feel, you'd buy like the ATV mesh bass drum or maybe the giant thousand dollar roll and the kick pad, but the reason you consider this pedal is because your neighbors yell at you and this solves that problem, okay, now to the $230 question: is it worth the money?
I have to say that this is a very niche product for me, this pedal is worthless because I don't need something low volume and I would rather you know a 22 inch kick drum, but if you are in that situation where you need something incredibly quiet and If you want something that doesn't look like junk, this is definitely a very, very solid option, it's a bit pricey, although it's priced in the same categories as a DW 5000 single bass drum pedal or an iron Cobra, so it's a Bit expensive, but as far as the different options on the market go, this is the best you can get.
Quiet and has a decent feel at the same time, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to give you the impression that there are no other options on the market, for example you can buy the previous version of this pedal is the kt9, if you go easy right now I see there's a demo unit for that one hundred and thirty dollars, so if you want to save a hundred bucks you can buy one of these, it probably still feels pretty good To be honest, I haven't actually tried this individual pedal, so I can't give you a direct comparison of which one is better, obviously the new one will probably be better, but I don't know how much better it is compared to the kt9. and if you were on a really tight budget, you could buy the kick pedal from the

roland

t1 K or the yamaha k u-100.
Now they'll cost less than a hundred dollars but they won't feel as good, so it's kind of like Basically you're going to have to weigh the pros and cons and decide whether or not you want to spend the $200 or if you know how to buy one of these things. These things will probably be a little quieter because you don't have an actual beater hitting a surface because even though this type of design looks beatless, you're still hitting the front of the pedal with that little beater there, it'll be quiet, but not as quiet like one of these. pedals here on the rollin t1 K or the Yamaha one so all in all this is a great pedal it's a great buy for some people in very limited specific situations but for me personally it's not worth buying because I'm not going to to buy as an accessory in the rare cases where I might need to use it again, if I end up moving into an apartment where I have some angry neighbors living below me then maybe it would be a good buy, so that's been my quick review.
I quite like the pedal if you've owned this pedal or played it in a store please leave a little mini review in the comments below.
