Nothing Phone 2A - Something is different...

Apr 10, 2024
This video is sponsored by Chime, we'll talk more about that later. It seems like there is a shortage of passionate people in the world today. We're seeing brands stripping away fun bells and whistles in exchange for ruthless corporate cost-cutting. There doesn't seem to be anything here that prevents regular blocks from becoming unbalanced. But with two previous generations of stylish flagships and eccentric, attractive head

phone

s, Nothing finally released a budget

phone

called the Nothing 2A for $350. And not only has Nothing paid extraordinary attention to the details of the packaging and the details of removing the SIM card and the details of the charging cable, but the details of the 2A are the best example of a brand that takes pride in its creation.

And it goes beyond what you'd expect from a budget phone to create

something

memorable. Numerous expansions are reducing the margins that fill the pockets of managers, but

nothing

is still here increasing all possible items. They don't skimp on anything, not even a cheap device. Well, they may have saved a bit by reducing the glyph lighting zones to three, but all three are still very functional. They show the volume on the back, as well as notifications, timers and calls like we've seen on other Nothing phones so far. They even included a screen protector. After removing the protection, we can begin the scratch test.

More Interesting Facts About,

nothing phone 2a something is different...

The plastic starts to scratch at level 2 or 3, remember that. The glass scratches at level 5 or 6 and the sapphire would scratch at level 8 or 9. We haven't seen a sapphire phone in a long time. The screen of this phone is Gorilla Glass 5 and as we can see, it is scratched at level six with deeper grooves at level seven. Interestingly, the screen turns on and off depending on the power button. Nobody really likes creating these interesting details. The 32-megapixel front camera is located under the glass, just below the earpiece of the stereo speakers. The frame of the phone is made of plastic.

I guess with a design as complex as their other devices, they have to cut costs somewhere. And reducing material costs makes sense. Plastic is cheaper and easier to work with than aluminum. The power button is metal, as are the volume keys, but the entire frame is definitely plastic. But the plastic of the phone is not that bad. The USB-C port can charge at 45W and this 2A has an IP54 water resistance level, which means it is not waterproof. But in the SIM slot we see small dots that make up the rest of the user interface. Nothing pays more attention to detail than anyone else.

In the center of the transparent back are two circular camera lenses, both 50 megapixels. The left is the ultra-wide-angle camera and the right is the regular main camera, both located on a slightly raised plateau. However, I noticed here that where we would normally see clear glass, Nothing has put in a piece of clear plastic, which is much cheaper than glass. And while the plastic doesn't break or chip, which is good, it can get scratched. I love that Nothing found a way to keep the price low, without giving up the transparent theme. The first email-borne replicating computer worm was created by a man named Robert Morris, back in 1988.
It infected thousands of computers and caused millions in damage, just because Robert wanted to see what would happen. A worm would slow down computers to the point of being unusable. Robert was the first man charged with creating this virus and received a $10,000 fine, a suspension, and 400 hours of community service. Which seems pretty mild. The Nothing 2A has a 6.7-inch, 120-hertz, 1300-nit 1080P display that can last about 20 seconds under the heat of my cigarette lighter. And although it is a flexible AMOLED, it is still fully recovered, everything except the oleophobic coating. And while I've really enjoyed and appreciated this phone so far, when it comes to the under-screen fingerprint reader, it seemed to register my fingerprint perfectly.
But when I tried to unlock the phone, it didn't work. Too bad, because I couldn't wait to scratch it a little. Finally, the bending test. Since everything is made of plastic, the frame and the back panel, I was nervous about the structure. But with strong front pressure, we get a lot of flex, but the Nothing 2A does not flex catastrophically. And we get exactly the same results when we lean from behind. Nothing 2A and its Morris worm survived my endurance test. Which brings us to the disassembly. I love taking apart plastic phones because the back panel is unbreakable.
Nothing can go wrong, and Nothing calls the two colors of its model black and milky. And as you can see from the shadow of the blade, the clear plastic is simply tinted. If you made it this far in the budget phone video, you're probably the type of financially savvy person who likes to save and spend their money wisely. No credit check. chime.com/jerryrig. The link is in the video description. Thanks to Chime for discounting five more wheelchairs for $1000. Extremely cool. In addition to the 10 visible screws, there are an additional five hidden under the wireless charging coil that surrounds the two cameras. 2A does not have wireless charging, it is only decorative. The three groups of LEDs are linked by a single flat cable that detaches like a small Lego brick. The LEDs are in pairs, as we saw in Nothing One and Nothing Two. I disconnected the battery and screen tape and surprisingly

nothing

seems to have made it easier to remove the battery.
Simple rigid plastic tab. The 5000 mAh can be extracted directly from the phone. Thumbs up for that. Also, the battery has dots that we see on the user interface and in the SIM slot. Nothing is consistent, and by this I mean that everything Nothing does is consistent both inside and out. There is a screw that holds the bottom plate. I'm going to take out the SIM card slot and disconnect the bottom stereo speaker. At first glance, it doesn't look like there are balls inside, but looking through the vent, we see that the foam balls are starting to stick to the sticker.
They help make the speaker sound larger than it really is. At the bottom of the phone is a square vibration motor and a 45W USB-C port, which has a red rubber ring. Following the internal ribbons to the main board, we can disconnect two more cables and discover that the two cameras are not actually in a single casing as we see on the iPhone. It's just a cover over two individually mounted cameras, which is creative. The front camera is 32MP without optical stabilization. The left ultra-wide-angle camera has 50 megapixels, also without stabilization. And it looks like before we can separate the main chamber, we have to unscrew the jam.
This is rarely seen on smartphones, we usually see these types of screws inside iPhones that are deliberately difficult to disassemble. Everything seems to be coated with some kind of rubber adhesive, but remember that the phone is still only IP54. It has a bit of gray paste on the back to help dissipate heat from the processor into the metal frame and then pass through the front AMOLED display. Finally the 50 megapixel main camera can come out. It has optical image stabilization. Nothing would make me happier than seeing my phone on, after everything that has happened. Personally, I think more phones should be made of plastic.
It's better for signal strength, better for durability, and better for wallets. And I think Nothing did a great job making it look good. The clear plastic will not return to its original state before disassembly. I'm a technician, not a magician. But surprisingly, everything still turns on and works normally, so maybe I'm a wizard after all. Let me know what other phones you want me to try and thanks so much for looking. See you.
