Mar 29, 2024
Strangers from the Dollar Tree and let's renovate them and turn them into fun

industrial

art. Let's get started, so I bought them at Dollar Tree. It is a very thin

board

. I don't think it's even real wood, but they were very inexpensive. and I thought I'd renew them and use them for something else, so the first thing I want to do is remove the shine. I'm going to use my sanding block to remove most of the glitter and Actually, this comes off very, very easily, okay, let's clean them up, get all the glitter off. I'm just using a baby wipe and trying to get it.

I don't mind if there's some glitter left in there as long as it's pretty flush because I'm going to decoupage on top of this and I'm using a baby wipe to get all the little glitter off here, so the fun thing about this is that now you have a surface that you can work on, so whether you're decoupage. just decoupage paper napkins or whatever is here, you'll have a fun surface to work on and this didn't cost you much. I'm going to use old dictionary paper to cover both and then we'll add some. fun elements for that, so I know I'll need several sheets.

I'll start here and I'm just using a decoupage medium. You can use your favorite decoupage medium that you would like. This is a mix of a mod podge and a gel medium if you are using decoupage paper you may want to spray it on a little so it doesn't wrinkle as much. This paper is a little bit heavier, so I'm not too worried and I'll just let it sit for a moment and I'll do a side on this one. I'm going to break this edge off so that when I place it over the top it doesn't look like it's just one flush piece.

I'm just going to use this metal ruler. and you could even use a brush with water and I know I'm just going to go here to break this edge off the other one, this is going to go here and this last piece I can use to cover the top, make sure all these little edges are facing down before putting this on top. I'm going to put a little bit here on the back as well for a good extra measure and I'm just going to seal the top of this, this will make it start to wrinkle again, but that's how it will be.

It will begin to flatten as it dries. I'm going to see how much of this I need there and there. Okay, I'm going to put this one aside for a moment, so I'll let them both dry for when this. it's dry. I'm just going to use my sanding block to sand the edges of the paper and you could cut them a lot of times in the corners so you don't want to tear it. I only make a couple. little indentations here and that really seems to help it from breaking. If the paper is wet when you try to cut or sand it, it may want to tear.
I'm going to get this out eventually. This is still a little wet here, so I'm just going to press here, but I'm going to take it out before we're done and then I'm going to sand the other one the same way, so I already sanded them and I'm going to wash the edges of this

board

to give it a little more of interest. I'm going to use some gray and black tones for this. I really want to wash and I'm mixing my paint with water. I really want to do it. Being able to see my words through this, but I want to have some interest in these edges, so I really want this to be diluted, even though I've sealed it.
I just don't want the dark flavor to absorb so you don't see my words on my paper so I'm going to let them dry and we're going to move on so the paint is dry here so I'm just going to use a clear sealer about this. I'm just using my polyacrylic glass. sure, I'm just going to add transfers next and I really don't want it to grab the paper and the paint and just tear it up, so just to be safe, when this dries, we're going to put our transfers on. oh, that carries over to these.
I think I'm going to use this fun moth in the center here and I'm going to put this fun

industrial

globe, so this balloon is from the scans transfer and the moth is from the IOD entomology transfer that I have I'm going to use my textures vintage I'm going to use this part of the stamp here I'm going to use brown ink and I'm going to add some vintage texture to my two foreign boards, but I'm really glad I'm using the brown, it's going to stand out a little more, go around the edges with the black ink very carefully, okay, so I think I'm going to stamp some words on this and I'm using my block type stamp and it has some fun words on it, it reminds you of the old advertising font that they would use, let's stamp this one more time and we're done.
I'm going to make my last stamp on this and when this dries, we're just going to put our little holes in there and we'll be done, so when the board is dry you're going to want to make and open this hole. This is actually a jewelry sanding tube, but you could use a very thin nail file, so if you just take a small piece of sandpaper and fold it in half and make it very thin. You can do this through the hole, but just straight down, otherwise you'll end up picking it up again and it will probably tear the paper.
I hope you thought this was fun and easy, but these boards are great, whether you want to use them as is or renovate them, you could use a lot of fun projects with these boards. I hope you try it and have some trips with this. but whatever you do have fun
