how to start your embroidery business from home in 2024
I started in 2016. I had a handheld pe770, now it's like a PE 900, so it's a handheld machine and I started it all from

home

, in a bedroom in my house. then we expanded to the living room and then we expanded to the basement and then we moved to get a bigger house for the business and then we took over that house and then we moved to another house and we took over that house, so we have been growing. Now we're in a warehouse and I have 10 embroidery machines, so I'm going to go ahead and pretend I'm starting all over again.

There will be a link below also for the machine they can communicate with. Todd egman,

your

information is always here or in the description, so that's my journey on the machines. My suggestion to you is to buy the machine with the largest embroidery field you can afford. which means the largest embroidery you can do, the size of the sewing field is what it would say on any machine you are looking at, so the size of the largest sewing field also depends on what you want to embroider, whether they are kids, adults, babies, towels, blankets, again, always the biggest sewing equipment you can afford right now, you can always upgrade

your

machine later, but if you just want to get started, I just want to get into it.

I would suggest the biggest you can afford, so when I talk about the different types of markets that take you to where you're going to get your blank supplies, meaning the things that you're going to embroider, so for adults and stuff, I normally use Alpha SNS active Weare broader, they now require a wholesale license, so in order to get one of those, you will need a sales and tax use license so you can get it in your state. They usually don't cost that much, but I suggest you get it that way, you can get discounted prices on many of the hoodies.
Because I can get some sweatshirts for $6 instead of paying $12 at the store, which saves you money up front, so for adults there are sweatshirts, t-shirts, tank tops, sweatpants, there's so many different things and like I said , I would go to those websites. Active Weare alpab broer sandmar for kids, so kids shirts, if you want to make things like that, kids shirts, rompers, baby dresses, you can visit AJ Blanks.com. We sell a lot of those kids blanks for embroidery and sublimation at AJ Blanks. It doesn't require wholesale licenses, you don't need any of that, so you can buy directly from the website.
Now let's address all the supplies you'll need for an embroidery business again. There is a link below. next for everything i mentioned so again embroidery floss we use sail floss the largest cones are 550 they also sell the smaller cones if you are going to use a smaller machine stabilizer this is the stabilizer i have been using recently, this is the hbi Cutaway stabilizer I get the rolls on Amazon, there are many different types of stabilizer, so this one is cutaway, usually cut for clothing, sweatshirts, fabrics, if you are going to make towels, thick things that you need like salvie, which is like a water soluble St stabilizer for kids stuff. use, I don't have much left, but this is a polyethylene mesh stabilizer again from Amazon.
Certain things you don't need to cut, you can buy detachable stabilizers, so I'll have a list of all the different stabilizers and everything. you might need depending on what you want to embroider Mighty Hoops there these Mighty Hoops these are the magnetic hoops these are the backing supports it depends on what you want to do for adults I use the 8x13 mighty Hoop and then for kids I use the 8x9 So those These are two that I would suggest getting if you are going to do a lot of work on the left side of an adult's chest and I would buy the framing station and also the scissors, if you are going to do applique you are going to need something good. scissors these curved scissors work great then you also want scissors to cut fabric and these scissors are also very good they come in a blue and pink package they are great for cutting threads off the back of embroidery a few more things for your machines this is air compressed to spray your machine all the dust and everything you will need oil pens I also buy them from adad or you can probably find them on Amazon these are the magnetic coils these are the white L shaped coils from Filtech Magna Glide coils use them all the days.
I highly recommend that if you are going to do applique you will need heat and light bonding, so you can also buy the big bolts, but you can also get the small packs from Joan Fabrics or something like that. I usually buy the large bolt on Amazon, you will need these needles so I like to use the Organ brand needles, you can get 7511 and 659. I use both depending on what I am embroidering so for kids shirts I like to use $659 on the MOs I did them normally on the other machines, 7511, but I would suggest doing both right.
The next thing I think about is all the tools to start embroidering. I hope I don't miss anything, if so. Sorry, next up is This is going to be the software that you are going to use, so if you want to buy your designs on Etsy or you like creative FAA, you want to buy the designs and just edit them, add names, then you need some kind of software as well so if you're a Mac person like me I use IM Brilliance IM Brilliance has all the different levels of software so if you just want to do lettering there's Brilliance for lettering and stuff like that, if you just want to change colors there's Brilliance Essentials which is what which I use 99% of the time, so it allows you to change the colors of any design you buy, it allows you to add the names, pretty much personalize a design you buy, they also have it in the brilliant Stitch 1, two and artist levels three, and that's if you want to make your designs from scratch stitched by Stitch, that's what you would buy and you can always upgrade, so yes, they are definitive for Mac computers, they work on Mac and Windows, now there is also Hatch which is a Windows based software that digitizes and then there is the design. shop, which is what I use for my MOS, they have cool features like automatically creating borders, shadow chain stitch fonts, for that I use the Meco Design shop software which runs on Windows computers, although it's up to you what software chooses and can do. your research, but those are the most popular ones that I use, okay, the following selling platforms, now where the hell are you going to sell your embroidery?
Yes, you can do word of mouth on Facebook if you just want to go to businesses, but 99% of businesses are days online, so where do you want to sell? Do you want to sell it on Shopify? you have your own website you want to sell on tik tok store you want to sell on amazon handmade etsy fair if you want to do it just wholesale like where? you want to sell, so those are your options. All these platforms always have a fee. Tik Tok store is like 8% now, etsy's Shopify is 9%. You have like the processing fee, so that's it, but you have to pay a similar monthly fee to the website.
I think the basic is $29 a month, which isn't too bad. On any platform you are going to use you will have a fee, so divide it into the price of what you are selling and then with the sale. online comes shipping, so if you sell online you need to ship, where the heck am I going to buy all these supplies for shipping? I buy ribbon envelopes and shipping labels from Amazon. I buy at UPAC and ship. They have a really big box. I'm thinking 5000 for about $75 or something like that. I used to use UPS labels but I was unlucky because they are free from UPS but when it rained it would wash off so no that doesn't work that was a hassle so I used to use the free ones but I don't use them anymore.
I only paid $7 $75 for about 5,000 boxes of labels. If you have a large order you do in bulk or someone just buys three or four. sweatshirts I buy them on uline.com so I usually buy at least 50 at a time that's where I get almost all of my shipping supplies like I said mailer envelopes if you want the cheapest envelopes you can get them on Amazon but there are some. small companies that sell envelopes that sell very good quality envelopes, so they are thicker, great quality, which are like fancy envelopes. Small Business Supply Co and what's it called? magic envelopes, those are all great companies.
I support them so you can check them. Also, with mailer envelopes, shipping labels you need a thermal printer if you want to print them automatically, you don't have to worry about using ink, you can get it too if you are going to print at

home

, then maybe I suggest you get like an ink plan HP instant because that's what I use for business, that way you don't have to go to the store and buy ink, they just send me the ink directly, so that's what I use and then with online selling, yours. If you are your own business, then you have to pay taxes.
I'm not a tax violator, so anything I say after this point is just my opinion. My opinion only 25%. Please keep 25% of all your sales. Please, that way, come tax time. not like ah ah, I owe all this money, keep 25% and save it. I also suggest having your own account, it doesn't have to be a business account, just a checking account just for your entire business, so anything that comes from the business. go directly into this account any money any money you spend comes out of this account that way for tax purposes when tax time comes it's so easy it's all there on your monthly statements please please that's it The only thing I would like to do at first instead of trying to keep each and every receipt, if I just have them all from one account, it's very easy to know the money that came in and the money that went out.
If you already have an established business, you can get a business checking account. but if you don't have a business you can just do anything under your own social network so it's a proprietary type thing just open an account just for your business it can be a personal checking account okay again no no He's a tax professional, but everything. These supplies that you buy are all tax deductions because they are material costs for what you need to run your business, so they are all tax deductions. That's what I said, if you have your own account, you can see all the deductions.
That's fine, so that's it for starting an embroidery business. things you need to know, like I said, customer-wise, it depends on the platform you want to sell, you want to do it door to face and get into the businesses that I can also do that route. Those are pretty much the supplies you need. Things you should know before you start. Try to get straight to the point. If you have any question. I missed something. Leave it down. I make mistakes. I might forget something. It's great. The next video will be about most needle embroidery machines. My opinion on them, when to get them, when the time comes, things like that, so stay tuned for the video like I said, if this was helpful to you in any way please like the video.
