Tesla Model 3 Performance Auto Fanatic Review | My Honest Thoughts On EV

Mar 14, 2024
Hey, what's up guys car fans? In today's video, I finally get my hands on a Tesla Model 3 with dual motor

performance

, so I'm going to go over this: It's my first time getting into one of these cars and I'm going to tell you right now that it's super awesome. I only drove for a couple of minutes at this point, but I'll just show you a little bit about how to walk. I mean, this is a pretty basic car, there's not much to it. luxury in terms of design, but what's really interesting, this is the

model

3 high

performance

dual motor, it has the michelin pilot sport 4 with 20 inch wheels and tires and this one is in a pearl white.

I'll just show you the inside. Real quick, if I could figure out a way to open this door so you can see, it's very sparse, there are no buttons, there are no knobs, this is basically the future, this is technology, it takes everything, look at it, I mean, definitely No, I really like white. Leather interior. This is definitely unique. You don't really get white in any options today in any car, so I'm going to put the camera in the car and go for a drive. I'm not going to go over all the technology. but I'm going to get in the car and show you some technology when it comes to the computer screen and what this thing does because it's pretty impressive, I mean, I'm not a big technology person, you know, with nothing in my life I really like to keep things pretty basic but I think this is the way for the future and the technology and engineering in this car is just mind blowing so you'll hear some comments about how this car reacts to other cars I've driven like I said, this is an all-wheel drive car, it's an electric vehicle, it has a tremendous amount of power, but the power delivery, the handling, everything is very, very different than anything else I've ever driven in my life, so Let's give you a brief tour of the car.

More Interesting Facts About,

tesla model 3 performance auto fanatic review my honest thoughts on ev...

You can see it doesn't have a grill, actually it doesn't have much of a grill. Everything is done. I guess for aerodynamics they are trying to make the car as efficient as possible. You may know that it is a full electric vehicle, this is not considered a hybrid. Okay guys, we're into the performance of the Tesla Model 3, so before we get started on this car, I'm learning it along the way. This little black card and you have to touch it somewhere around here and you have to have your foot on the pedal to start the car, so I just want to show you some interesting things because when there are no buttons, there are no switches, there are really no levers on nowhere, the seats have switches on the sides, so we'll go to the steering wheel and you'll use the button here and it's just a scroll wheel, which is cool, this actually remembers.
tesla model 3 performance auto fanatic review my honest thoughts on ev
I used the old scroll wheel on the old Blackberry mobile phones that we used 10 or 15 years ago, so this is quite interesting, this is how it's done. This one doesn't do anything, so you're just going to go up and down. uh to get in and out, oh, there we go, so you push it from left to right, so this is pretty clever, pretty intuitive, so we're going to keep it where it is. uh your mirrors are the same situation, so we have the mirror here and you. Just move the wheel like I'm showing you and that will adjust the door mirrors.

Now I'm going to close this air a little bit so we're in gear 4. So now the car is in uh and then driving. We're going to drive it so you have acceleration, you have the option of cold or sport, so we're going to leave it in sport steering mode, you have standard comfort and regenerative sport braking, we're going to leave that low stop mode. I'm going to have standby on track, I don't know what this does. Track mode enables performance-oriented stability control for track driving. This is used for experienced track drivers familiar with the circuit. Don't use it on public roads, okay?
I'm not going to mess with it now because I don't want to have an accident, so it's on

auto

pilot and it's got all this stuff on it, so we're going to get out of this menu and go to the heated seats. part of the seat where we're not going to use music and it does all these crazy things, so it's like having an iPad Pro in the car, so it's got everything quite touch sensitive and it's very, very fast, it doesn't lag, you have karaoke. you have spotify, you have streaming, I mean, it has technology, it's just amazing, so if you like technology, you know your lifestyle, you love apps and you love playing with your iPhone, your iPad Pro and your Imac, and You know I'm really interested in this, this car definitely appeals to that type of audience.
I mean, I'm a big fan of gasoline and this is a very, very unique and new experience for me to be in something like this, but you know when I'm looking at the inside, I mean, this thing costs like 60 thousand dollars, you don't have any Nice styling, you don't have a leather-wrapped dashboard or the top of the door, so the interior feels very, you know, bottom end in that sense. and I think really what you're paying for is the technology, that's what it's really about, it's the battery power, the torque, the handling and all the bells and whistles that you know make up this car.
The car is made of aluminum and steel. So you definitely have a little bit of what we'll call a hybrid build in that sense, but I gotta tell you, it's pretty cool, so I'm going to set up the camera and we're going to take our first trip. and you will hear some of my comments on this because this will be my first EV featured on the Auto Fanatic YouTube channel and there will be more content about this car. I would like to make a video. series on how to live with a

tesla

model

3 with daily performance maybe i will do a multi video series over a couple of days maybe i will also do some in depth videos.
The car looks really really easy to clean and definitely easy to detail so this would be a lot of fun so let me set up the camera and we'll go for a drive so we set up the camera and of course this is driving me crazy, okay, here we go, the console closes the lid gently, okay, then I'm going to get the little black credit card that we're going to put in here, I'm definitely going to put my seat belt on for this because this is going to go well for Paul, put the air conditioning, get going, I'm going to try to keep it.
Lower the temperature, let's lower the temperature to 65. Okay, we'll go back to the car driving mode, so we'll leave this open. We're going to leave this open with the driving modes in case I decide to get into it. with him on the road, but let's try to relax to accelerate. I'm just curious. You just press the button and you really feel the pedal get firmer, so let's see what this does. Well, this really tones it down. Oh. Okay, so this is probably what you'll do. you're going to want to do let me just put this put this somewhere this is probably what you're going to want to do if you're in stop and go traffic you're probably going to want to put the throttle in quiet mode i Don't think you're going to want to put it in a sport because you're probably going to hit someone unless you're really used to the power of this thing, but this is really strange to me, I'm telling you, so I think.
This is a great opportunity to record a video about this car because a lot of my fans and customers who buy

auto

fanatic

car care and you know, we contact each other, we talk all the time through Instagram and YouTube, they have these cars and they're all Hello, Phil. You have to get one, let me know what you think of it compared to your Alfa Romeo and all the other cars you work on and own, but the relaxed mode is definitely cool, very linear, let me push it. Hold on tight, yeah, you see this, this feels good, it feels very normal, okay, the only thing I'm going to tell you now is that the handling of this thing is absolutely incredible, now that it's a dual motor, so you have an engine in the front and You have an engine in the rear.
The first time I got in this car about 30 minutes ago, I took it around the block just to see how it ran and the only thing I noticed is that it has incredible steering and responsiveness. of the chassis and what I mean by that, the only other car I've been in that really feels this reactive is my macho alfa julia quadrifoglio and any of the modern mid-engine Ferraris, you know, supercars, okay, it's just a feeling like unless you drive those cars and you understand the difference in the feeling you know basically basically this is an all wheel drive car it doesn't look anything like any audi model rs it doesn't look like anything from porsche or BMW, Mercedes, it just has a totally different feel, okay, but it's just the way this thing reacts, it's just amazing and we're still in relaxed mode, so let's relax, let's go into sport mode, oh my god , and I'm like looking for paddles and I'm looking for a shifter and I don't have it so I'm a little lost here but oh my gosh you hear this whistle I feel like I'm in the Jetsons cartoon if anyone remembers that It's an old cartoon I used to watch as a kid in the '80s.
They used to have these spaceship cars flying through space. It was really cool, so it's cool to be in one right now and feel like that, but yeah. You listen to this little one, it's like a turbine wine, oh my God, wow, that really broke my neck really hard. Holy cow, yeah, we have to put this thing under the road and I want to open it up, but I'm going to tell you now. This thing is going to deliver torque and power much better and much more efficiently than any gasoline-powered car, that's really what it's all about and I really can't believe Tesla made these cars so fast.
I just can't believe it because I don't think it's right, maybe I don't know much about the EV market, but I didn't think they would target that type of audience to go out and buy these things for performance, but After driving this for a couple of minutes, I really think the technology is only going to get better and once this starts coming to brands that we all get excited about and excited about, like Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, you know, I think you know 10 years maybe maybe before uh there will be supercars that will have this technology that will blow your mind, you really know they will probably have, you know, these exotic cars that you know with 2000 horsepower electric motors. you know, four hybrid electric motors and it's going to be absolutely out of the ordinary, oh my goodness, sporty steering mode, let's get it comfortable, see what it does, oh well, I'll tell you now the steering of this car and the way.
This is what it feels like now: You're also getting that steering effect not just from the electric power steering, but also from the way the motors balance torque from wheel to wheel. There's definitely something going on there and it's very intuitive. that you don't really feel it, but it feels so telepathic and responsive that it's like nothing you can drive as far as any standard car you know today, so let's put it in standard mode, okay? standby mode gets a little heavier sport mode gets heavier but sharper okay that's what I like, regenerate, we're not going to get into that, but I gotta tell you, now that we're on roads full of bumps, looks and absorbs it as if it were nothing.
A lot of that rattle probably comes from inside and things in the back, but it's not harsh at all. Look at this and that really, a lot of this comes from the suspension design and also the unibody structure design and I think a lot of the strength of this vehicle or all of these Tesla vehicles really lies in the flat panel of the chassis that it's where it houses all the battery cells, but gosh, I think that's the range of the car, yeah, definitely not the range. from my phone, so 176 miles, that's our range before we run out of power and I think with something like this, with something like me, I'll probably have to charge this every day because I'll be on it all the time. as far as getting that power, I'm actually going to turn around and go that route, you know, having michelin sport pilot sport 4s tires here and, you know, 20-inch wheels and the way this chassis is set up, such maybe a bit of a cheat so holy shit this is amazing.
I'm still looking for a paddle because I want to slow down. You know, going to a corner. Wow, you just hear that humming sound. Yes, this thing is wild. This is actually very wild. It takes me a while to get used to it. I'm going to be

honest

with you like I'm, you know, trying to hold back because I don't want to end up in a tree, but, my God, it's like I just touched it and the car just goes wow, this is, you know what? is? I'm actually having fun, that's something I always dismissed with electric cars because I've never driven them.
I always write it off as fun for an enthusiast or performance type of buyer, but I'll tell you now, man, this is really impressing me, it's like the agility, the handling, how telepathically this car reacts, oh my God, this It's wild, it's definitely wild, so it'sokay, we'll be back here oh man, very, very. Great, we'll go back into relaxed mode, we'll go into comfort, so now we're in the toned down version of the performance of the Tesla Model 3. It's just weird, I'm still looking for a paddle, uh, I'm so used to it. to it with elalfre mayo every day driving that and even my stelvio uh I haven't really felt the need for a shifter like a manual but I'm almost curious to know if in the future they will ever make high performance electric vehicles with a gearbox where the owner could actually shift up and down and really, you know, have a little more interaction with the driving experience.
I'd love to know if that's in the wave of the future. I don't really know, but it could definitely be fun, you know? Starting out, you know, even if it was like four speed, you know you don't really need that much, just to have something and put some paddles in the car to make the transition from a typical gas car a little bit easier. I know this isn't a luxury car at all, so it's not the quietest car. I think the model S when you start to get that with all the bells and whistles, it's definitely a little more luxurious in what you get with a soundproof audio system and some of the bells and whistles, but this is cool man, oh look at this , it's actually feeling it, look at this, I just noticed this now, it's detecting all the vehicles that are around me, this thing is wild, man, I'm telling you, this is wild now.
We're going to go back to sports mode, we're going to go back here, so now we're in sports settings, we're going to cook, we're not going to play the music there, let's go back, let's just leave this open. drive modes yeah the flashing stock feels great not something you know you would ever hear me talk about but I just want to report on it in the video if anyone is interested to know I really don't like these uh , this. plastic panel here and there were giving me some trouble closing them um they just feel a little cheap you know it actually reminds me a lot of cadillacs from several years ago they made the piano black plastic oh boy no.
He's not coming after me, I didn't, I haven't done anything wrong yet, but it's okay, let's take it easy, let the police officer go, Jesus Christ, you know it's real, like you step on the gas, I'm going to call . you accelerate, I don't know what it's called in these things, you press the accelerator and it just moves and then you release it and it goes on, which means these engines feel almost free. accelerate like there's nothing holding them back, like a gearbox or a gear mechanism, you know, whereas the gearing, you know, could possibly make something like this maybe not as efficient, but I think in the future, you know having some kind of gearbox could be a little more interactive but I'm going to be

honest

with you this is fun the suspension and the handling and the steering are a home run What exactly did they do with the design of it all and how did they do it? that their cars would come close to this because there aren't many cars that have that sharpness?
Some people will say it's edgy, edgy and may not appeal to many people, but then you can switch it to comfort mode, but let me get back to the sport. I just want to show you as soon as some of these cars relax, you see my hands on the wheel, okay, it's the reactivity that when you make a little movement, I can feel it in my pelvis, the way the car generates all that grip , it's just amazing there is no sway and if there is sway it happens so smooth and fluid that it doesn't take you away from confidence I mean it's just amazing once again I'm still looking for a downshift paddle this is so Strange, I don't know how many days it would take me to drive something like this to accept it psychologically in my head.
Hey, there's no transmission or paddles, but I'm sure it would probably take me a couple days. It's just that you know that your memory of your motor skills every day when you get in a car will be different when you get there. on something like this, but we're on the highway where it's going 60 or 60-something miles an hour, super smooth, no bumps, uh, wind noise and road noise could be better. You know, I was hoping, probably a little, we have a full glass roof that might have something to do with it and also Michelin tires aren't always the quietest tires so that's just the sacrifice you get for performance, I want I mean, just change lanes like you're in a video game, it really is like you're playing a video game Oh my god, this thing is wild, holy, yeah, this hits illegal speeds really, really fast, yeah, there's just no room here, you know , I can't really, I can't push it because there's just no room, but it's definitely cool to have the power.
I want to tell you now it's okay, we'll put it on the right arm, yeah it's just the way it transitions, yeah this is crazy, it would actually be a very, very fun car to drive. A very long road trip like I was going from New York to drive to New York to the Carolinas or something. This would be a fun car to be in for 10 hours. The seats are very comfortable. They don't have very deep backs. but I haven't slid at all since I've been driving it which is good so right now I'm off throttle and it will continue to slide and then you'll have to tap every once in a while to keep up your speed, that's just what I'm noticing, but damn when you hit it yeah this is a wild experience I'm telling you I've written off these cars for a long time and it's really cool to finally experience this one because it's small it's compact you know it's in the same class of car that my Alfa Romeo, size-wise, you know the scale of it, but the fact that it has that sharp feel and it's all-wheel drive, that's impressive, look like always, here I always downshift twice and then, you know, I drag it around corners, but there's nothing to slow it down, it's definitely, it's definitely crazy, so I texted my friend before saying, hey, let's do this. a race between this and your modified Dodge Charger Hellcat could be fun.
I know for sure. This stuff will smoke it. Will smoke it totally off the line. I think this is like 60 in about three seconds and I'm going. To tell you now, it definitely feels that way and then I got the model, the checkered model, which I don't think there's any car in the world that can beat it in terms of straight line performance, so we're talking about, you know? Multi-million dollar hypercars can't even come close to what that thing is doing. Okay guys, you just finished the driving portion of the video. The traffic is too heavy today for me to go any further, but I have to tell you something.
The car really impressed me in a lot of ways and I want to talk to you a little bit about it now at the end of this video so you know that when I look at the car I don't get excited about the styling. The car just isn't something that appeals to me. I also buy a lot of my cars based on heritage, emotion and style, so you know, like I said, Tesla is not competing, maybe in the future they will, but you really have to respect that. to elon musk and also to the brand for what he's created with the technology, the technology is phenomenal, I really think it's about to trickle down into the automotive industry, you know, much more than it is now and I think that's going to I know the wave of the future, but you know my opinion.
If I were the one running this type of business or this type of industry, you know the industry personally. If I were Elon Musk and I expected someone to listen to this, I would pretty much do it. A lot hire a pin and farina design house to basically give them this platform or whatever platform you're working on and let them style this into the sexiest amazing high performance, whether you want to do a sedan or a coupe but just have one design real. The house designs this to turn it into something that is simply beautiful, it doesn't matter if you are a Ferrari and Porsche fan or just someone who just loves good design, you will just want to be attracted to something like this and you will also achieve that effect and the design as well. on the interior, which is also pretty sparse, but a couple of negatives I come from this video, like I said, the interior is what it is, this is not a luxury car, but the only thing I noticed, the build quality You know, it seems fine, but New York roads are so intense and so brutal for almost any car.
I don't know how well this car would hold up after three to five years as far as hitting potholes and crushing it with the suspension. So when you hit potholes on the roads in New York, you know it's pretty, it's pretty brutal on cars, I don't care what kind of car you have, whether it's a Mercedes S-Class, a Tesla or a BMW, so when you hit potholes. With the suspension, you get a little bit of a shock when you enter the cabin, which means that the shock absorbers on this car don't have a very good impact rebound effect, well, that's something I noticed, uh, that's something that possibly It could be improved, but there have been a lot of cars over the years that don't do very well in New York City area driving conditions, so it's not just that you know Tesla Mercedes has cars like that BMW, as well Yes, I even made a video. on a bmw 750 a couple of years ago and hit a pothole and took the same impact on the cabin and that was the top of the range 7 series so it all comes down to the design engineering of the suspension geometry and you know some attributes, but Like I said, I think what you're paying for this car is ultimately the technology of an efficient high performance electric vehicle and one thing I take away from this video is that I did.
I always dismissed EVs as fun. I always dismissed them as performance. Everyone knows you have to have a performance car, you have to have noise, you have to have a stick shift and all that, so now it was a little bit of a different experience for me to drive and actually have a little fun, but the answer telepathic of the chassis, the steering, the power delivery is very instantaneous and it's also linear and you can adjust it, you know, through the modes here that we went over with the driving modes. It actually makes this ev a fun car now.
You have to be careful with it, it has so much power and torque, and in your transition through everything so quickly, you have to make sure you drive it enthusiastically on an open road, because if you're in traffic and I know you're really into it so Aggressive, you will probably crash into someone in front of you, that is just my opinion and that is where you will have to switch from the sport to relax and tone it down a little. a little especially for the New York City area, but the fact that this has the potential to be fun and exciting coming from someone who is all about performance, I have every performance car in my entire life, ever I had, you know, something like this, this is totally new to I think this will be the wave of the future and I think if this technology reaches the brands that you know, car enthusiasts like you and I are passionate about Mercedes, Porsche , BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, you know, I think in the future.
The future is going to be crazy and I think the technology is happening very fast and all of these automakers are tooling up now for this next transition of adapting to hybrid and electric vehicles by 2030. I think it's going to be very, very impressive. One little thing I told you in the video that I'm still looking for a paddle shifter. I think in the future you will most likely know that you will be able to see this in high performance brands like Porsche, Lamborghini and Ferrari if they were able to design something like this and put in some kind of gearbox. from a shifting mechanism where you would have the paddles and you could shift and downshift and use that powerband a little bit differently, it's going to be amazing.
I think people are going to transition from gasoline-powered cars to electric vehicles, especially us. performance enthusiasts and I think the transition will be smoother when they start to adapt the technology a little more and make it a little more adaptable when going from one type of card to another, but I have to tell you that it was a great experience. fun experience I'm impressed uh like I said like I said the interior quality like some of the things here like I don't like this the rattles in the creeks and stuff like that and I was hoping the cabin would be a little quieter but we're running Michelin pilot sport 4s tires.
You know, we have a lot of glass in this car. This car is also built in California. I don't think they over-soundproofed it like they do, like you know someone's car is sitting next to it. The thick, heavy rubber mats, I think they were trying to keep the weight down and keep everything to a minimum because the batteries and everything else add a lot of weight and mass to the structure of the car, but I have to tell you, you know? If you like something unique, want something different, go out and try driving one of these.
I mean, it took me a couple of years to finally get my hands on a high-performance model. A couple of my neighbors have the very basic model. about this and asked him if he wanted me to go totake a ride you know a few years ago I wasn't very impressed but the dual motor on the performance model is definitely impressive so I hope you like this video please subscribe to the autofinite channel and if Anyone who watches this video knows like I said , I don't show any of this Eevee stuff on the Auto Fnatic channel, but if you want to see more content about the performance of the Tesla Model 3 post it in the comments section below.
I want to hear from you, let me know what you think. I definitely love doing some drag racing between a couple of my other cars and my friends' cars. go from 0 to 60 to see what this does. The whole question is where can we do that safely in the New York area? I don't really know, but it was totally fun and I think you know another interesting video would be how can anyone? As me, who only drives gas cars every day, how could I live with something like this for one, two, three or four days of driving this back to back?
I think it would probably be a pretty seamless transition, you know, to get in, you put in the key. here and you just hit the road and go, but I don't know what it's like to live with something like this since the range has now been reduced to 155 miles. Chances are, at the end of the day you will. I have to charge it, how does the charging situation work? I don't know, I've never charged a Tesla before, but it's definitely cool and I think this is the wave of the future. I would also love to show you a wash soon. video and detailed content, I think this car would be super easy and fun to detail based on the actual shape and organic lines of the car, as far as polishing it, putting clay on it and throwing a wax kit or even a ceramic coating on it, so if you I want to see that content, post it in the comments below and stay tuned for more content.
I'll see you soon in the next video, thank you all.
