Christmas Crafting Top 12 | DIY Christmas Home Decor

Mar 26, 2024
Hello and welcome back to the distressed princess. Today I'm Rhonda. I have a mega Christmas video to start the Christmas craft season, so let's not waste time and get straight to the first DIY. Let's make some fake birch logs. In fact, I had some real ones. A few at a time, I don't even know what happened to them, but I'm really sad that they're gone, so I'm going to make some fake ones and this time I'll make sure I know where they are. So what you'll need for this DIY are some empty paper towel rolls and some empty wrapping paper rolls.

The first thing I did was cut the wrapping paper roll to be a little bigger than the paper towel roll and I'm going to cut a few different sizes because these logs were not cut evenly in the forest and for some reason they really I thought the wrapping paper roll was going to be harder to cut than it was, so I'm using a knife, I really think. Scissors would have worked though, so I was able to get three logs out of a roll of wrapping paper and then the paper towel roll will be a fourth vlog.

Next, you'll need some brown craft paper that you can get at Dollar. Tree, you'll need to cut a pretty good sized square and you'll need more as you go, but start with a pretty good sized square and then you'll need to cut it into a couple different pieces, just to make it easier work on the next one, you'll wrinkle the pieces of paper, wrinkle them very well, make the ball very tight so that all the wrinkles are quite deep. Now tear the craft paper into strips, it is better if you don't leave straight edges. and I didn't think about that at first, but before I apply this to the trunk, I do think about it and I don't let there be straight edges.
christmas crafting top 12 diy christmas home decor
Now you should cover the ends of the imaginary trunk unless you want to. it's going to be a hollow log and I'm using wide painter's tape to do this and I'm just going to take two pieces and make a cross and make sure everything is sealed and of course do this on both ends and then just use Mod Podge to glue all your pieces of craft paper crumpled all over the faux log. Now I lost a bit of footage doing this. I apologize but there's really nothing to do and then once you stick the paper to the trunk do a coat all over the top and the outside is completely dry now it's time to paint and this time I'm using my paint of Rust-Oleum Linen White Chalk and a regular brush instead of a foam brush and it only took one coat because look how it works with this brush, it naturally gives it a weird wood look, it has dried now it's time for the details and I'm using the Waverly top paint and the truffle, but I imagine you could use any type of brown paint or maybe even black paint and I'm using my normal bristle brush again and I'm going to blot very, very lightly with a brush that truffle paint over the foreign trunk and then for more detail I'm going to add some gray chalk paint to the mix and this time I'm using a foam brush and I'm trying to cut out those lines that you see on the birch trees and don't forget put some color on the ends of the logs too, so that was pretty easy.

It really didn't take that long and now I have all these Birch Vlogs that I have to think about what I want to do, so I decided I wanted to group them all together and make a little display with them, so I got a big enough rubber band. band that I could stack them all up and keep them the way I want them to look weird because this is a cabin video. I'm using red buffalo plaid ribbon to wrap them and then added some Frosty Christmas Greenery that I bought at Dollar. Tree when it was a hot commodity, you have to act fast when it comes to Christmas greenery at Dollar Tree and I cut them, you know, individually from the stems and now I'm going to tie them to the whole bunch with some jute twine. foreigner about it this was my favorite project of these Christmas cabin DIYs today foreigner for our cozy cabin I think we need a blanket.
I got this one for half price after Christmas last year at the Dollar General store and I'm going to personalize it using my Cricut and this fancy glitter iron-on vinyl. I'm going to add my detail to just one corner of the blanket, so I unfolded it and now I'm just using my Cricut Easy Press to iron it on and here's the transfer that I made the blanket, I'm just going to center it, you know, looking at it on the corner of that blanket and then I used my Cricut easy pressing set at 330 degrees and let it go for 30 seconds then turned it over and pressed it. again for 15 seconds, the transfer sheet is cold, then I peeled it off and that's it, a personalized Christmas movie watching a foreign blanket.
T is involving something I bought at the antique store, it's these little white kids ice skates that I've always had. I wanted to make a winter

decor

ation with ice skates and these they just told me they had 15 at the antique store and I had to have them, but you see, they had quite a few scratches and something purple on one of them, so I decided to try to clean them up using this eraser of shoes I found at Dollar Tree a long time ago. I've never used one of these before. It looks like a magic eraser, so I was hoping it would work too.
As a magic eraser, all you have to do is wet it with water, the instructions say, and you're supposed to rub with the orange side of the sponge and then dart polish with the white side of the sponge. I used both sides. of the sponge and it didn't seem like it was really doing any clean cleaning for me, so I got out my Dawn pressure washer, sprayed them down and used that shoe eraser as my dawn scrubber, if that was it. a pair of shoes that I was actually going to wear, I would have taken the laces off and put them in the laundry and everything, but since it's just a

decor

ation and I want them to look vintage and used anyway, I wasn't that worried about everything it was clean but I wanted them cleaned after cleaning and drying them then I wanted to do something with the blades and I wanted them to look like they had snow or ice on them from skating so I'm using some Epsom salts which are actually from the jar on my bathroom.
I actually use these Epsom salts, they are Dr Teals and they smell wonderful, but I'm going to sacrifice my Dr. Teals by putting them on the ice skates and I did that by just putting a little white glue on the blades and then sprinkling Epsom salts on top of the glue. I wanted some winter greenery inside the skates, so I'm running out of greenery. I opted for these little miniature trees from the Dollar Tree and thought they worked well on top of these skates. I wanted there to be a nice big bow, so I'm using some burlap ribbon and just shaping it into a bow and I'm going to use a zip tie from the Dollar Tree to hold it in place and secure it thanks, then I folded the ends of the ribbon and cut the tails and to hide the zip tie I cut some burlap ribbon to go around the center and this also works For another purpose, you will need some jute twine or any type of rope you can use to hold this bow to your ice skate because I tried hot glue that doesn't stick to the leather of the ice skate or whatever material the ice skates are made of. it just falls off so you need to somehow tie some string to be able to tie it so I'm using that center piece of burlap ribbon to thread my jute twine through and hot glue that center piece in place and because I think they do May everything be more beautiful.
I added a pineapple to my juice string and then you can take both pieces of your juice string and thread it through the top eyelet of one of your skates and then you can tie it there and that's it. how to attach it, don't forget to tie your shoelaces, then I used macrame cord to attach them, but you can use twine or jute twine, whatever you have on hand, and all I did was thread it through the other eyelet on the other side . of the skates and laced them overseas and now I can cross this one off my craft list.
I always wanted to do abroad look at this mug, it came from Christmas Tree Shop. I don't need any more Christmas mugs. I don't need I need more cups and that's it, my cabinet can't hold any more, but I couldn't leave it behind because it stinked so bad, so I'm going to make a craft with it. I'm going to try to make it a base for a little winter scene that will go on top, so first I need to fill the inside of the cup with something and I just used a little bit of newspaper. Then I needed some ground cover with snow, so I'm using a microfiber mop. from the Dollar Tree and I'm going to cut it down to where it overlaps the mug just a hair, then I hot glue it around the edges and some in the center up as well.
I'm using some of the white bottle brush trees from the Dollar Tree and a deer ornament that I think came from the Dollar General store, but I didn't really like the look. They gave me the steer and he seemed a little angry, so I thought maybe I could fix it and I was hoping I could fix it. I grabbed my sharpie sharpie pin and tried to make the eyes a little fuller and put some eyelashes on them, then I hot glued the trees and deer to the top of the mug and I feel like this was a perfect solution to be being able to see this cute mug I bought at the Christmas tree store and not have to mess up my mug cabinet.
I've always loved these little white Bibles they have at Dollar Tree and so I wanted to turn them into a cute Christmas mug. For decoration, all I did was add some frosted Christmas greenery that was from the Dollar Tree, a piece of burlap ribbon from the Dollar Tree, and some little pine cones from the Dollar Tree, so this is totally a Dollar Tree project. I just hot glued everything into place. I'm going to show you a couple different ways I made it so you can choose which one you like best and this was the first version and I wasn't sure about the size of the pineapple, I thought it might be too big. for the little Bible and I was also sad because my burlap ribbon was covering the gold words on the top of the Bible, it was on the side of The Binding, but it was covering the Holy Bible on the top, so I decided to Remove Everything and Change It in the other direction so now I'm wrapping my ribbon around the bottom of the Bible and I'm going to have to cut a little bit of that off and I hot glued it all in place and replaced it. large pine cone with the smaller ones and I added a clear white ribbon bow and the ribbon also came from the Dollar Tree and I really think I like the second version better but let me know in the comments which one you like best for the first one you will need some Crayola Model Magic that you can get at either oh gosh there's probably a lot of places to get it but I bought mine at the Dollar General store but I've seen it at Dollar Tree before and I'm sure.
Walmart sells it too so all you need is just one package so a dollar should be enough and what it is is air dry clay and this is my first time trying to use it so you're learning with me. I'm using a rolling pin to flatten it a little and I'm going to make a gingerbread man and I don't know how well it stores. I simply rolled this excess back into a ball and put it in a sandwich bag. with all the air expelled, so it may not dry. I don't know if it will work or not, but I hope so because it was so much fun rolling out this little dough, now I go. to transfer the gingerbread man to a paper plate and I'm using a little spatula that I bought at Dollar Tree.
Now I'm going to let it dry overnight while my gingerbread dries. Now I'm going to work on the frame I want this frame to be red so I'm really glad this is the kind of Dollar Tree frame that you can take out the back you can paint the frame whatever color you need and I don't have it I have to take a lot of things apart and nothing breaks while you're trying to take it apart, so I'm just going to use some Apple Barrel Red Acrylic Paint and I quickly discovered that this is one of those Dollar Tree frames that doesn't want to absorb the paint very well, so what you have to do is rough it up a little bit, use some sandpaper.
I'm using a sanding block, but roughing up the edges of that frame doesn't take much. a lot and make sure you remove all the sanding dust and then the paint will stick. I put on two coats of red paint and did it around all the edges and sides, then you'll work on the back of the sign. and what you want is just a white background, so you're going to have to remove the paper that's on this backing, then I used my sanding block to sand the rest of the paper that didn't want to come off. Softness doesn't matter what you're looking for so make sure it's as soft as possible and this little one has been such a wonderful purchase.
It's in my Amazon store, which is linked in my description box below. It's a little ladybug vacuum cleaner. cleaner and it's perfect for all those little messes when you're

crafting

and it's surprisingly powerful now for painting the background and what else except Rust-Oleum chalk painted on linen white and to make the surface as smooth as possible, I went over it slightly with thesanding block, this is my gingerbread man after sitting all night, it's still a little soft so I'm trying to be very careful with it. I think the package said it would be completely dry in 24 hours, but it really isn't.
It's been 24 hours, it's really just been overnight, so I'm trying to be very careful with it, but I'm going to paint it and I'm using Apple barrel acrylic paint in chestnut. I didn't. I worried about painting this gingerbread man's back because they're going to glue him to our sign, but I made sure that around his chubby, fat little arms and legs on his head, all the edges were completely covered with that brown paint when the brown paint is dry then it's time to decorate it and I'm using this 3D fabric paint that you get at Dollar Tree.
I'm going to use the three colors, white, black and red, to make the little ornaments on him, the eyes and buttons on him. drawing time, whether it was 24 hours or 72, either way, I never wait the whole time. I set it aside to dry and then came back to it a little later. It would probably be wise to go ahead and wait the entire time. drying time. I'm really very impatient, so I'm trying to be very gentle with him so that the paint doesn't touch and I'll continue with my project. The next part is the lyrics and as promised, no.
Cricut requires. I'm going to write some words on this sign and I'm using this red Sharpie ultra-fine tip pen and I'm going to make that tall, thin raid type font, because I think that's just the easiest thing to duplicate so I had a sudden idea to put some of adhesive tape. I guess you could use painter's tape. Put some type of tape to try to keep the letters straight. Hot glue the gingerbread man to the sign this time, making sure it is completely dry because you don't want to hang it up and then let the paint run.
If he is not completely dry, keep him lying down until he is strange like in our video and you like hanging out with us, then don't forget to do it. give us a like and leave me a comment. I like to respond to you and this way if we have more participation, my video is sent to more and more people and we get more people in the angsty princess community and we can all learn how to do it. crafts and DIY and hanging out together. I bought this a while ago when Dollar General was having a clearance sale and I got it half off for two dollars and fifty cents, which was a bargain, but I didn't know exactly what it was.
I'll use it for now, I do, now it's going to be a sock holder if of course you can't find it at your Dollar General, they don't sell them anymore because it's a different season or whatever, you would definitely do this project. with a piece of regular wood and just buy these farmhouse hooks, you can find them on Amazon. I will link them in my Amazon store so it is easy for you to access them. I wanted to paint this piece of wood so I had to take off the hooks first, then I applied a coat of my Rust-Oleum Chalk Paint in Linen White and when I say slapped I mean slapped.
I wanted this to look rustic. I didn't want it completely covered. I wanted the brush strokes. I wanted some of the edges to be exposed. I wanted these to not be perfect foreign snowflakes. I'm going to decorate it with these snowflakes came from the Dollar Tree and I'm going to use my Waverly antique wax and a baby wipe to dye. Then, to make them look snowy, I dry-brushed a little of that white chalk paint around the edges of the snowflake and just a little on the outer centers. I replaced the hooks on the wooden board and hot glued the two snowflakes in the middle. the hooks and now I have a nice place to hang my stocking so Santa can go ahead and fill it abroad.
This is a printable that I bought on etsy for just a couple of dollars and it is a replica of the old Shiny Bright ornament. boxes and I was really excited to do this because if you remember, when I did a search for vintage Halloween Christmas decorations in the antique stores, I saw someone using what I thought were real boxes to make these dioramas. Well, I have discovered it. now I think this is what they made, they bought them on etsy and made them themselves and that's what I'm going to do today, although I saw something that maybe similar, it could have been the same thing at the antique store. um, the printout I printed said for personal use only and no commercial use, so don't try to print this one out and sell it.
I printed mine on cardstock paper, you need two sheets, one for the top and one for the bottom of the box. and the instructions are printed there and all you have to do is fold and cut foreign tape to secure the corner flaps in place, but I got excited before putting the box together. I really should have cut down the tree first, so I go back in and Cut Down the Tree, but it would have been much simpler. I mean, I could have run along the edge of that tree with a knife, much easier if the box flaps weren't taped together and then have to go back and do it with scissors now. so learn from my mistakes, first cut down the tree.
I wanted there to be a pretty background, so I picked out some scrapbook paper I had that I thought coordinated well. I appreciated the bottom of the box on the paper. I cut it out and then glued it with white school glue to the bottom of the inside of the box. Now you can put the top back on the box and it is ready to decorate. The ones I saw in the antique store were decorated in different ways. all kinds of different things, so it's up to you what you want to put inside your diorama. I went with a couple of bottle brush trees and a small reindeer which was very important.
I wanted there to be a little vintage reindeer and this is where we have to use another vintage print, if you Google vintage deer printables you'll get all kinds of little pictures that you can save on your computer or on your phone and just print them out on your printer and It is important to print them on cardstock paper. to make them heavier and hold the bottle brushes I'm using, they came from Target because I no longer have these little trees. I had a lot of them last year and now I must have stopped using them.
Anyway, I couldn't find any more at Dollar Tree. I couldn't find any more at Walmart so here I have this type of target and there's no snow on them so I have to remedy that by putting some white acrylic paint on these. The trees act like snow, but of course, if you can, you can find them with snow below. I thought there should be something at the bottom of the box, something like grass. I don't know, some kind of filler. so I grabbed this tinsel garland from the Dollar Tree because this silver reminded me a lot of tinsel trees from the 50's and 60's, so I'm going to incorporate some of that silver into my diorama and I just used hot glue to stick that piece of tinsel.
All the way to the bottom, I removed the trees from the tinsel, but then I also put a small dot of hot glue on the back of the box so the tree would touch and stick in two places so it wouldn't fall into the box and second tray I glued it right on the back of the box and for the little deer I put little dots of hot glue on the bottom of his hooves and glued it to the top inside of the box, then I felt like the top was a bit simple and I needed something, so I'm going to steal more snowflakes from this Garland card holder and I'm going to stick them on top, like on the trees, now if you had snowflake stickers or something even some wood oh if you had some sparkly wooden snowflakes you could paint oh yeah that would be adorable so here it is all put together it really didn't take long and I love foreign trending DIY items. these clear plastic Christmas balls and last year I used them to put some Epsom salt and some fake snow and a little sprig of greenery and that's really cute, but I wanted to think of some new things to put inside these clear plastic balls and so I'm going to try this snowflake garland from the Dollar Tree.
This DIY couldn't be easier. Just insert the garland into the ball and I did it. I don't know, maybe it's worth a foot and a half in because if you get too much, then you can. I don't see the little individual snowflakes hanging there so I kept it to a minimum and cut off the amount I thought looked good and then hot glued the end of the garland to the inside top of the ornament so it stays in place. place. place and not everything just falls to the bottom and then just replace the cutie pie lid, add a little more.
I hot glued some Frosty Greenery on top and I wanted to use a snowflake so I used one of those snowflakes from In the first DIY, I filled a vase with styrofoam and hot glued it on the top of the lid. Something about those cute little snowflakes hanging inside that clear ornament makes me so happy, it's so joyful. Foreigner, you'll need these metal houses you arrive in. the Dollar Tree I really hope some of you can find these houses in your stores. I realize not all Dollar Trees have the same things but if you are lucky enough to see them pick them up Secondly you will need one of these cake boards which I think is a newer item at Dollar Tree and I really love them scalloped edges.
You will also need something. It doesn't have to be exactly like that. This is a Dollar Tree muffler, but you could. Also use one of their microfiber cloths that looks like white snow and you will need some white bottle brush trees and you can also find them at Dollar Tree. You'll also need some artificial snow and this came in a big bag from Somewhere I Don't Remember Where, but Dollar Tree carries it. To start, you'll need to prepare whatever you're using to cover the snow on the ground, which is this muffler I found, which is very soft and furry.
I just loved it, I almost hated cutting it but anyway I took the label off and since it's in a circle I had to cut it into two pieces to fit the middle of this cake board, the next thing I needed to cut the cake board by half lengthwise, however trying to do it with scissors was going to be a little difficult because this cake board is kind of thick cardboard, so I went to get my cutting mat and a knife, now it's the perfect size. For my material, which is going to serve as fake snow, I hot glued it to the cake board, then went back and made sure the corners and all the edges were hot glued really well, then I decided to turn it over and wrap it. the corners around and I hot glued them to the bottom because I thought that would give it a more finished look now here comes the messy part.
I'm not going to paint these houses because I really liked their original green color, however I wanted them to have some snowy roofs because there is snow on the ground, there should also be snow on the roof, so I wanted to use that big bag of snow flurries and cover the roof, all the roofs and the snow, and the way I did it was using the normal school. glue and I brushed it on top of all the roofs and then I sprinkled the snowflakes on top and that's why I have this old baking tray to catch the snow that doesn't stick to the roof and yes, in fact, it's just as fun.
As it turns out, spraying snow on top of these houses was a lot of fun. I can't explain why, I guess it's a mess, but it's a controlled mess and it turns out very stinky and cute. I really wanted this snow. to stay in place and not flake everywhere, so I decided to use a method that works well with glitter. I'm not sure if it will work as well in the snow or not, but we'll give it a try. a shot I'm just going to spray a can full of hairspray on top and see if that makes the snow sticky so it doesn't go anywhere these houses have a little star cut out on the top which I'm not a fan of so I'm going to use these snowflakes instead and I know you can get some snowflake stickers at Dollar Tree.
I didn't have the stickers, so that's why I'm using this card holder, clothespin, little garland. I'm going to steal the snowflakes from that and hot glue them around two of the cut out stars on two of the houses, foreign house. I'm going to make a tiny little wreath to go around where the star is. The cut is so I just use a sprig of leftover greenery from who knows what and I'm going to form it into a little wreath and then I want to cover it with some snow in quotes using a little bit of white craft paint and then it's hot glued on. to that house just above the star cutout.
I then arranged all the houses and trees where I wanted them to go on the small snowy lot and once I figured out exactly where I wanted everything to be, I hot glued everything together. place, thank you and since these houses are actually candle holders, then you should get some candles fromDollar Tree LED tea to light them up, so here's my take on a fun little Dollar Tree Christmas Village. Thanks thanks. There are some different ones. things that you can use to make this next DIY which will be a crown and this is what I had on hand so this is what I'm using but to make things simpler for you if you have or have access to one of the simply gold rings that you can get them at Dollar Tree, that would be perfect because I had to dismantle all of this, I had to remove all this Greenery and everything to get to the little metal ring that's on the inside and like all the other DIY's today it's just the simplest thing ever. exists - just grab that pretty snowflake garland from the Dollar Tree and wrap it around the ring to decorate it.
I'm using one of these really cute ornaments from the Dollar Tree and it's absolutely cute. cute, cute, cute as is, however, I wanted to replace the red berries. Well, I want to remove all the red berries and replace the Buffalo Plaid bow so it matches my other DIYs today a little better, so instead. I'm going to use that ribbon from Dollar Tree with more neutral stripes. I just made a little bow and hot glued it in the center. I hot glued the ornament to the wreath and on the back I used Gaba hot glue. I used a bunch because I wanted to make sure it really stuck.
I added a jute rope hanger which was just a piece of jute rope that I tied to the ring and I didn't catch it on camera but here is the end result, OMG I love it. Thank you, thank you for the next DIY. They're these nutcrackers that came from Dollar Tree, but I never really liked nutcrackers until I went to that Christmas store and saw them. What cute colors they could be, so I thought why couldn't I take these one dollar nutcrackers that I'm not too crazy about and turn them into these cute ones that I loved?
I wanted to stick to the color combination I saw. the ones from the store because I loved them so much, so I chose all my light cotton candy colors, my pink, my lavender, my baby blue. I'm going to use a little bit of gray for the belt and his swords and stuff. The staff and I are also going to use some gold. Oh and why for some details and their boots, let me tell you that painting these little Fellers was really relaxing. I just sat at my table and started painting and yeah, it took a couple. coats, it took some time, it took a steady hand to get some of these details and in no way am I saying my painting of these nutcrackers is perfect because it's not, but anyway I'm not looking for perfection, I just wanted them to be cute and speaking of cute, someone tried to escape with my brush, in fact, he didn't escape with this one, but he did get another brush that I have yet to define, it's in this house somewhere that I don't know what he did with it.
The Nutcrackers in the store had white eyebrows and a mustache, so I thought that would go better with the colors too, so I wanted to paint over the black ones that were on these ones from Dollar Tree and I thought. The best way to do it would be with my white paint pen, but it wasn't working very well, so I ditched it and got a very fine brush and tried my best to have the best studio hand possible. I just painted it with foreign white acrylic paint and used a gold marker from Dollar Tree. I honestly love these markers and use them to put in details, the laces on their boots, the buttons on their jackets and a few other little ones. details thanks alien and here's a before The Dollar Tree Nutcrackers in their standard Nutcracker colors and here's the after in their fancy cotton candy pastel colors alien thanks for watching I'll be back next week with all the new Christmas DIYs for 2022 and see you next time bye
