Hey, okay ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another episode of junkyard digging. In today's episode, we're reviving a 94 Ford Ranger. Now I know it may look like completely normal traffic and it's not something that fits our channel at all, but it wasn't just this

truck

. I grew up but this is the one I then drove to high school, it had a transmission go bad at some point in college and it's been waiting for me to find a very specific transmission ever since and we have one and it's time to get this out of Weed and put it back on the road let's see what it takes to make a 90's EFI Revival this is the future that's happening now before we start here let's pump the brakes a little and talk about this 94 STX and the history it has .

In my family, in the fall of 2002, my father bought this cheap Ford Ranger that had been crushed by a tree and needed some bodywork. Having done that all his life, this was no problem. Dad dismantled the

truck

. I, of course, helped and Soon enough, the truck was back together and on the road once again for

years

. Dad drove this vehicle to and from work every day and I remember him driving it for most of my

childhood

; However, after

years

of service, the ranger was parked due to some problems. and I forgot about them in the front yard for about 6 years until one day I needed a truck to get to school and work so I did my first Revival out of pure necessity and put the ranger back on the road for the next 3 years.

I got out of this truck. I easily put 20,000 Mi hauling everything from motorcycles to four-wheelers to entire golf carts in the back of the truck, if it wasn't running around on gravel or sideways in the snow, there was a good chance it would be a couple feet off the ground okay let's jump on the ranger we're doing 45 here we go oh oh that was a bad decision oh my gosh in the winter of 2017 during a trip back from college on the ranger , unfortunately ran out of transmission fluid due to an undetected leak and inevitably burned the front bearing.

I had the transmission out the year before because of a slave cylinder so I didn't think it would be a big deal but as it turns out I couldn't find a transmission for this truck, in fact it took me 3 years to find one locally and affordable during those 3 years, of course, our YouTube stuff started. I got bigger, more reliable trucks to haul trailers and the ranger was forgotten. once again in the backyard, it's been 10 years since I did the first Survival in this truck and after

sitting

for another s, it's time for the second one, let's take this sucker to the shop and get the ranger back on the road, okay there we go uglier than I remember, the paint hasn't held up well to being outside since 2017.

I looked it up so it's been 7 years since 2017 which doesn't sound good. I was wondering the bastard had my record doing a Revival on my own car. I got old like this, it seems like we came out of a barn, they ate my 1994 Ranger manual, this is weird as we normally pull these things out and they like, oh when was this last recorded? For me in 2017, I'm old enough to have my own good level barn vehicles, look at this, look at these old receipts with my own signature on them, they're all crumpled up and look like they've been in a barn for 30 years, oh that's since the moment I went up.

I was once with the golden knights at a drill in Davenport when they came to the air show and stole my patch when they jumped out the window or door at the back of the plane. Before installing the new transmission, we wanted to take our time. to take out the old clutch and put a new one in its place on a freshly turned flywheel. Angus removed our clutch. I took the steering wheel off and threw it into the bpack LA combo brake and got to work turning the surface so I've been saying it for years you can finally see it yeah the Ranger B combo brake that makes steering wheels as well as drums and discs , oh yeah, it makes a big difference, I'm already sure that those points are hitting the hot spots, that the flute is like Harden the metalon you

see them after this pass, it's pretty crazy, our first pass is already there, look at all these here, these bright spots, that's where the clutch has heated up and hardens the metal and you can hear it when you're cutting it. it cuts a lot slower right here and you can feel it's a lot higher so we need to make a few more passes until all those hot spots are gone then we'll have a properly resurfaced flywheel let's run it again hey hey hey here we go , It seems.

Fantastic, you love seeing more life given to the old parts, there is no reason to replace them but they definitely need to be resurfaced that way, when we get a new one of these it

be able to sit there and fit properly and get maximum performance. We took it out with our flywheel ready, reinstalled it on the old pilot bearing and put the new one in its place once it was out of the way, we were ready to hang the new clutch and prepare for the transmission installation, this has a concentric. slave cylinder that is around the input shaft, which means that if his slave cylinder goes out, he can take the entire transmission out of the truck.

We replaced the clutch so we never have to remove it and do this again. Let's do the same. Same with the slave cylinder, this one might be fine, but a new one is 60 bucks to confirm that hopefully I'll never have to take it off and do it again, so let's go ahead and get this guy out and put a new one in its place . two 10mm head bolts this should slide out now it's time to install the new one this is a very difficult task take notes installed good job that's why I'm paying you a lot of money oh yeah oh good news Angus is done so these plugs are fine here, they are supposed to look like these three rubber plugs on these m5s, they shrink from the transmission fluid and start leaking, eventually you will run out of fluid, in this case has anyone been here, I want That is, we have r2v throughout this output fragment. here and someone already made the modification and put in some Welsh plugs.

Little Frost plug deals, you can get them on eBay, but that's already been done, so luckily this sucker is ready to go. Sweet, let's hang it up. I'm so ready for this. Normally I would do this rolling on the ground bleeding and cursing in a garage that was about 2T wider than the entire van, so first time at this. could go pretty well well well just a little bit down a little bit there clear okay, straighten up oh yeah, how could you turn this on the ground?

I don't know, dude, horrible, okay, we're there, go for it, oh, did he? We did? Oh, we pushed it good. I'm not going to lie, it sucked, but it was by far the easiest and fastest transmission ever in this truck. And I doubt you have a friend if you don't have friends, buy one. so to put these bastards on these Rangers it's best to let the whole transmission and everything sink in, don't try to hold it or it will be impossible to get those top bolts, but these are the exact tools that I mentioned in the last video, but I bought these long extensions to do the transmission for my Ranger in high school.

What you want to do is go over the transmission, reach to the front and grab the bell, that's the best way to uh. tighten these guys up and loosen them now that it's older and uglier and start good two more from the front we're ready to move on to the next component which is probably the starter motor and all the wiring is good we have a new starter motor to use. on mainly because we can't find the old one which is the only thing we lost the starter and one of these bolts on these replacement starters you have to cut the old wire and crimp and heat shrink the new connector because apparently the old wires they were known for causing some problems and fire problems so as I continued assembling things under the truck and started working on our brakes, they look fun, they're not super fun for some reason, this

r's side front brake line that It goes to the caliper it shares a t block with the other front brake line so that's the joint between the two it's the joint the hose is the joint it's very dumb on the right side it's had a pretty substantial leak of something over the years and it has been well maintained and free I didn't even have any problems, you must love a good I guess there is a leak in the power steering, eventually we were able to hang the transfer case and install the front

Years later I'm making those videos and I think it's such a wild world, so I try to do my best to teach them the things I wish I knew when I was their age and could easily find out in a video. It took me years to learn that lesson that I would like to take out right away and save someone from trouble somewhere else, that being said let's clean this sucker, I want to clean there, up, up, back here, same with this and same on the clamp also clean the brakes a bit and clean these guys this is just some old anti that doesn't really rust in any way once its all done i can go ahead and go back to antise these put it all back together and it will work perfect, not much better.

In Springs now, Rangers are very common for this and if you ever see one where the tailgate is crooked but the front of the bed is level, that means the rear shackle rusted on the spring, it's against the bottom of the box. The right side shackle did this years ago and I fixed it then, but I figured while this bed is still removed let's go ahead and remove the driver's side as well because it also had a ton of rust holes. Now this job is quite complicated, but I finally managed it. I was able to get the new shackle bushing in place, connected everything and we are ready to go this morning.

We're back at the ranger working on this. I am currently putting in a new starter solenoid. Angus is putting our new filler neck into place. in the fuel tank and we are waiting for the tires to be mounted so we can go pick them up and put the sucker on the wheels and take it outside to paint the frame. There was still only half that amount of air coming out of the dash, but there was still air coming out of the dash, which was strange.
