They have a lot of different Coupes to choose from, but the Air 46 was our absolute. favorite, it's perfect for our backyard flock, which we plan to expand in the future, but this will give us a perfect start. The kids had so much fun helping us put this together and I know they are just as excited as we are. Is this a milestone for us, one more step towards self-sufficiency? When we got most of the coop together we decided we wanted to rotate it because of where the Run was going to be and then we finished the top part of the coop. the roof and all the nest boxes inside comes with everything we need to make sure it is airtight so the birds don't drown in our crazy rains here in Arkansas, but once we are done with the top on the we started working on the Run Foreign 46 it is a three panel course that gives them plenty of room to walk.

This guy has a lot more brown. and color on his wings, okay, the one in the back, so let's take that guy, the one that's more colorful and vibrant, that's the one we want, okay, this guy, Gary, let me get my hands dirty, I'm excited, he's well, let's see. if I can catch it and see if I still have the touch hello Sean to Claire and he has yellow legs while the other guy has blue legs wow there is some purple and emerald wow it's beautiful look it's going to be a beautiful bird and don't worry I'll We will take good care of you, we will take good care of you, you are not going to be dinner, you can be our Mater, you will be a Mater, yes, tomator, yes, Tow Mater tomator, he is lucky, he is the luckiest rooster. around this property I'll tell you this plus Country Road cures the birds when it comes to simple living, he will be the luckiest rooster, yes he already has 11 ladies for himself only eleven for you, you went to hell, okay let's say you're there with those ladies you thought he's all hey ladies let's do this do you need help baby or do you have any you're so strong we'll take you right there hey Julia we've got chickens again yeah which one is yours here?
She has no fruit, no, white, yes, where is she? Right there, there she is, what do you call her? Sunshine, that's Sunshine, yes, hello, sunshine, I think the gray one with a fro over here, we'll call her Abba, aha, in honor of the band. yes, Dancing Queen nightclub, she has a fro, they had a lot of frozen ones at the Bob Ross nightclub, anyone does, do you think this chicken coop will be good enough for him? This is a good starter coop for him, yes many are not adults. We're still learning how to navigate life and this is going to be pretty good, perfect, so now that we've moved all the chickens in, we're going to get a brief education on the birds we have and what we should do with them. the eggs they are going to lay and all that Sensa Jeff is absolutely the best of the best, he will teach us everything he knows and he will also share a tidbit or two with you, so what we have.
Where do we start? You have 11, they are called pullets before they start laying. That's when you call them chickens and, um, but yeah, 11 bullets and you picked your favorite guy. I know he will be so handsome. I can't wait for him. to get the true colors out of him, yeah, and he has a lot of

growing

to do and by making him younger you can have an impact and influence and help him grow and hopefully that will help him be a good rooster. The thing is, all of these birds will definitely be treated a lot between the kids, Gary and I, so I think that should absolutely help with socialization.
The best way to get a good rooster is to raise them yourself or raise them most of the time. Yourself and you know a lot of driving and a lot of attention, you should be a good guy, well, they will definitely get a lot of attention around here between us, the kids and the dogs, yeah, and then the 11 girls. You have a Groovy. uh selection yes yes there are three Whiting True Blues they lay blue eggs great uh Whiting is the last name of the guy who developed them well and got his PhD in poultry genetics from the University of Arkansas, so they are a landrace species The breed is more recent in the last 20 years, that's really interesting, though yeah, and the reason he developed them was to have a blue egg breed that laid a lot of big blue eggs, so they're supposed to be the more productive blue ones. egg layers, that's exciting man, especially with the price of things going up crazy everywhere now these ladies still aren't laying properly, that's right, they're all between three months old and a little after five months, the oldest .
It should start laying in mid-February and then the rest will be online in March and April. Great, so you guys will be able to witness our first egg for simple life claims in the new 41.36 Homestead, so I'm very excited about that. I know the male is still too young to sing too, right, yes you will hear the first crow from him. It is exciting. Is there anything special we should know about or special needs they have or just taking care of them? It's kind of like, yeah. I've had chickens before, yes we have, oh you've been through that, it's just a little bit different weather, uh, and you'll get used to it like everything else, so are chickens in Arizona.
If it was too hot, they would simply die. and I know it's really hot out here, is there anything special we should know before summer and before spring or not really? Most of these are pretty heat tolerant, um uh, and they've been in this environment because it's like white. and True Blues are my fourth generation, okay, the brands would be my third generation and then I raised them together to get Green Acres, so they should be used to this environment, the humidity, the heat and the cold too, um, yeah , cold. We should also drag an extension cord up here or if they are fully feathered.
This group made it through that recent storm without

addition

al heat, as long as they can get off the ground. They're doing well through the night, so that's exciting, guys. So it looks like they're going to be a very easy starter flock for us and this is a lovely starter pen for us so it's a great start, it's perfect, I'm very happy with this and you'll understand. colorful eggs, the three white ones and True Blues La blue I bred them with morans and then you got three olive green Eggers, the Moran, you the dark brown one, so you got a variety there and then you got three special types uh, there are Easter Eggers, they will probably lay blue or green 75 chance but 25 chance to lay like a peach or maybe even a pink oh wow, I don't think I've ever seen a pink egg, yeah, they're actually, they're actually a brown egg. but when it blooms they can do it, it can be like an interesting well, now I see why they call it Easter Eggers because it's always those light springy Easter colors, yeah, and you don't know what you're going to get.
Or then it's an Easter egg, right, yeah, yeah, you won't know what color egg they lay until they lay it. That's him, I'm sure you'll go to our good friend Jeff's channel. I'll link it right there next to his head. He has the most wonderful balls in all of Arkansas and is very knowledgeable about what he is doing. He's actually the one who supplied the cure to Country Road with his chickens and his eggs, and he's our go-to person when it comes to All Things Chickens and me.
