Ezekiel's Future Temple | God, Israel, and Bible Prophecy | LIFE IN MESSIAH

Mar 21, 2024
welcome to Toph's podcast in chapters 40 to 48 of Ezekiel, the prophet writes of a glorious Temple rebuilt in Jerusalem, the glory of the Lord will return and fill this new Temple. A

temple

like the one Ezekiel describes here has never existed before, but a couple of questions arise. As one reads these chapters, why are animal sacrifices carried out in this new Temple? When will this Temple be built today? On Toph's podcast, we explore Ezekiel's vision of a glorious Temple. He will reign forever. A biblical theology of the kingdom of God. Dr. Michael. Vlog breaks down Ezekiel 40 to 48 into the following four sections, first chapter 40 verse 5 to 42 verse 20. this section focuses on the Temple of the coming Kingdom and then in chapter 43 verses one to nine this section focuses on the glory of the Lord returning to the

temple

chapter 43 10 through 46 24 focuses on the

future

regulations of the Temple and finally chapters 47 and 48 focus on the land of Israel in the Kingdom with only a superficial overview of Ezekiel 40-48 being made Obviously this new Temple is one of the main themes of the book of Ezekiel, by the way, I mentioned the work of Dr.

Michael Vlock in this podcast before he is one of my favorite authors and if you have not read his book entitled Does the church replaced Israel? Then I encourage you. To pause this video right now and order this important work from Amazon, as I have said time and time again, reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation with a distinction between Israel and the church will help you tremendously in your understanding of the entire Bible. Now let's turn to the biblical text to answer some of our questions, there are two main questions that I hear most often from people when talking about Ezekiel 40-48.

More Interesting Facts About,

ezekiel s future temple god israel and bible prophecy life in messiah...

The first question is when will we see this new Temple and the second is why are there sacrifices in this Temple. Let's start with victory, when will we see this Temple rebuilt? The answer is in the millennial reign of the Messiah, that period of time known as the Millennial Kingdom, it is the thousand-year reign of the Messiah from Jerusalem, you see, there are many promises that have been fulfilled. made to Israel that have not yet been fulfilled there are also many promises concerning the Davidic throne that have not yet been fulfilled and it is in the millennial reign of the Messiah that these promises come true we know that there will be a millennial period because it is a main theme of the prophets, we don't have time today to describe the millennial period in detail, but if you are interested in learning more, I invite you to listen to some previous episodes that we have created, one of them is called Will the Dead Sea. live in the other the return and reign of the Messiah, you can find those episodes and more at

One place among hundreds where the

future

millennial kingdom is described is in Revelation chapter 20. It is in this chapter where we learn the duration. of the Kingdom Period in all the other passages that describe the future Kingdom we learn the characteristics of the Kingdom Period but in Revelation 20 we learn the period of time which is a thousand years now we know that this Temple will be built during that time for two reasons First, the The next Temple, which is the third Temple, will exist during the reign of the future Antichrist, like all other temples before it.

It will probably be located in Jerusalem in exactly the same place as the two previous temples as a reminder that the first temple built by Solomon was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar and his Babylonian hordes in 586 BC. the rebuilt temple the second temple was rebuilt and dedicated under the good leadership of Nehemiah and Ezra it was also destroyed by the Roman legions in 70 AD. there has not been a temple in However, since then in Jerusalem there will be a third Temple and we know that in the Book of Daniel and in the book of Thessalonians in Daniel chapter 9 we read about an event that will take place during the future period of tribulation, a period referred to in the scriptures as the day of the Lord verse 27 of Daniel chapter 9 says the following and he referring to the Future Antichrist will make a strong Covenant with the many for a week and for the middle of the week he will put an end to the sacrifice and offering. and on the wing of Abominations there will come one who will desolate until the decree is poured out on the desolator now Daniel chapter 9 verses 24 to 27 is truly a remarkable

prophecy

Daniel foresaw a future desolation that would put an end to sacrifice and a future Temple essentially this desolation defiles the sanctuary we learn more about how it defiles the sanctuary from the apostle Paul in second Thessalonians 2 verses 3 and 4.
There Paul writes the following that no one deceive you in any way for that day referring to the day of the The Lord will not come unless the Rebellion comes first and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of Destruction who opposes and exalts himself against everything called God or object of worship so that he sits in the temple of God proclaiming himself to be God, then Paul says that that day will not come and In the context of the passage in which Paul refers to the day of the Lord this is the Tribulation period and he says that this day of the Lord will not come unless two other things happen first: rebellion and apostasy apostasy refers to the apostasy or the denial of the Messiah by an untold number of people that is the first event the second event is the revelation of the Antichrist because he says again that that day will not come unless the Rebellion comes first and the man of lawlessness reveal now that's fascinating.
Did you know that the identity of the Antichrist will be revealed before the tribulation period? That does not mean that we will know exactly who the Antichrist is before the rapture, but rather that his identity will be revealed before the tribulation period. but our point here is simply that there must be a rebuilt Third Temple if a temple is to be desecrated by the Antichrist because the Antichrist cannot desecrate a temple that does not exist. This brings us back to the Temple of Ezekiel. The Temple of Ezekiel will be a fourth and final Temple that is different from the Third Temple why do I say that because the Temple of Ezekiel will not be contaminated by the Antichrist in fact Ezekiel chapter 43 informs us that the glory of the Lord will fill this Temple and we also know that The Temple of Ezekiel is the final Temple and it has to be in the Millennial Kingdom because there is no temple in future eternity.
We are informed of that fact in Revelation chapter 22 verse 22 where the New Jerusalem descends from heaven. John writes the following there and not I saw no Temple in the city for its Temple is the Lord God almighty and the lamb Now that we have addressed the question when will we see this Temple? We are going to take a short break when we return we will address the next question which is Why are there blood sacrifices in this Temple if the Messiah Jesus has already been sacrificed for sins once and for all since 1887? Life in the Messiah has helped Christians understand the Jewish roots of our faith and God's ongoing commitment to his people.
We teach that anti-Semitism. is inconsistent with biblical faith and we pray for the peace of Jerusalem, which includes its spiritual renewal and physical security in all we do. Our priority is to share the message of the gospel. Connect with us on Facebook, Instagram or at

inmasiah.org. That's lifeinmasiah.org. Our next question arises because in several places it is mentioned that the blood sacrifice will take place in this future Temple, for example in Ezekiel chapter 45 verse 17 it says the following it will be the duty of the prince to provide the burnt offerings, grain offerings and libations in the festivals, the new moon and the Sabbaths, all the appointed festivals of the House of Israel, he will provide the sin offerings, the grain offerings, the burnt offerings and the peace offerings to make atonement on behalf of the House of Israel now if this Temple is in the future and I believe it means that it comes after the once and for all sacrifice of the Jewish Messiah on the cross;
However, as we have just read, there will be blood sacrifices in this future Temple. Now the Scriptures teach us that no additional sacrifice for sin is necessary for atonement. in the book of Hebrews chapter 10 verse 4 we learn that it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins we know that only the Precious Blood of the Messiah can do so now there are several ways that people approach this passage to deal with to understand why sacrifices and sacrifices for sin would be instituted in the Millennial Kingdom. One view is that this passage is metaphorical.
This view spiritualizes any meaning of the text and reinterprets it so that it somehow becomes all about the church, so all the detailed measurements we read about don't really mean anything. Dr. Michael Vlock comments on that particular vision and says that this is the figurative or spiritual approach that sees Ezekiel 40 to 48 as spiritually fulfilled in Jesus and the church with this vision does not. The future fulfillment of these chapters is necessary as the temple concept is fulfilled in Jesus and those who identified with Jesus, i.e. the church, but then a few lines later, Vlog points out that while the temple concept is applied To both Jesus and the church in the New Testament, this does not happen.
We do not rule out a literal temple of Ezekiel in the future; In other words, Vlach's point here is that just because an illustration is used in the New Testament or just because an object like the temple is used as a figurative teaching in the New Testament does not mean that there is no physical reality for that object or for that Prophecy in the future, you see, most theologians who believe in a future for the nation of Israel see the sacrifices listed here in Ezekiel as memorial sacrifices, for example, Dr. Charles Ryrie in his Bible study makes the following comment about sacrifices, sacrifices like those under the Mosaic law will not eliminate sin, but will be a vivid reminder of Christ's sacrifice once and for all in an integral part of worship in the Millennial Kingdom to spiritualize the that Ezekiel wrote. eliminating the issue Ryrie's Theory and many others who hold this Theory is a very different possibility.
Ryrie on most biblical theologians may, in fact, be right that the sacrifices simply point back in time to the Messiah's more Superior sacrifice on the cross, just as the sacrifices under the Mosaic Covenant pointed to a more Superior sacrifice. However, the problem and most theologians recognize it as a problem is that Ezekiel uses the Hebrew term for a sin offering, why is a sin offering reinstituted if it is a once and for all offering? ? sin has already happened the book of Hebrews chapter 10 verse 10 explicitly teaches us by this will of God we have been Sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all and a few verses later in verses 13 and 14 it says this now He is waiting until his enemies are made his footstool because with a single offering he has perfected forever those who are sanctified and finally just to make the point.
Verse 18 says now where there is forgiveness of these there is no more offering for sin. The main belief among most theologians is that these sacrifices are not for the forgiveness or removal of sins and I completely agree that animal sacrifices cannot remove sin, but what do animal sacrifices do well? ? Animal sacrifices cover sin, they do not eliminate it. is the role they played under the Mosaic Covenant in helping us better understand the role of animal sacrifices. Let me share with you an example I learned from my college professor and good friend, Dr. Michael Rydelnik. Let's say you have a credit card and you are very careless with your spending, in fact you rack up hundreds of thousands of dollars in credit card bills, there is no way you can pay this, there is no way you can get out of debt , like many people.
You make the minimum payment so that your card stays active and the collectors don't come, but even when you make your minimum payments, your debt is still there, it's still with you, it's piling up. This is exactly what was happening with the animal sacrifices in the Mosaic Covenant. The blood of bulls and goats could never pay the credit card debt, it could never take away all of the people's sins, but it simply covered the people enough so that they could continue in a relationship with God so that God could continue to dwell with them and then when the Messiah came he willingly went to the cross and shed his blood three days later he was raised from the grave by God when the Messiah did that he paid all the credit card debts he paid everything that was owed and Not only did he make a deposit for all future expenses, that's what the Messiah does, he completely removes, cleanses, whitens like snow our sins, so let's go back to the animal sacrifices in the Millennial Kingdom, why could they? to be there?
We know they can't delete. sin, but perhaps they are performing a very similar function to what they performed under the Mosaic Covenant, which is to provide a covering. My theory then is that under the Mosaic Covenant, animal sacrifices not only covered people so they could have a relationship withGod, but kept them protected from the fierce wrath of God against their ungodliness now this is the same possible role they will play in the Millennial Kingdom there will be many people in the Millennial Kingdom who are Ungodly who do not yet know the Lord and who need this coverage to exist with God, who dwells with Humanity.
You see, under the Mosaic Covenant, God dwelt in the most holy place, either in the Tabernacle while Israel traveled or in Solomon's Temple when he took up residence and dwelt among the people. the sacrifices allowed people to continue existing in the presence of God this may also be necessary in the millennial kingdom the sacrifices in the millennial kingdom are present not because they eliminate sin but because they cover sin and there are people living in the millennial kingdom probably millions for the end of a thousand years they will need a covering something needs to be done for these people as they refuse to accept the Messiah once and for all Sacrifice by faith there will certainly be natural people who accept the Messiah Sacrifice by faith in the millennial Kingdom but There will be many who will not do it and how we know that there will be many people at the end of the Kingdom who will be without faith, well listen to what Revelation chapter 20 says about the end of the Kingdom.
This period of 1000 years when the 1000 years are completed Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth. Gog and Magog to gather them for battle. Their number is like the sand of the sea. rose above the surface of the Earth and surrounded the camp of the Saints, the Beloved City, then fire came down from heaven and consumed them. The devil who deceived them was thrown into the Lake of Fire and Sulfur where the Beast is and the false prophet will be tormented day and day. night forever and ever.
In conclusion, we have learned the following from chapters 40 to 48 of Ezekiel. First, there will be a future literal fourth temple. Second, this Temple will be present in the millennial reign of the Kingdom of the Messiah in Jerusalem. third, there will be sacrifices in this Temple for one reason or another, so what is a possible application for today? First, I believe one of the reasons we have been given this passage is so that we as believers can look forward to this wonderful time, the heir. to the Davidic throne and the Messiah of Israel, Jesus of Nazareth, will reign from Jerusalem over the entire Earth.
If you know the king, then you will have punched your ticket to this Kingdom and will be present throughout the Kingdom as believers. live as citizens of the Kingdom now here on this Earth even before the King of Kings arrives to establish this Kingdom and if you do not yet know the king now is the day to put your faith in him believing that Jesus is Lord, that he is The son. of God who willingly laid down his life and was resurrected from the grave on the third day is the simple way to punch his ticket to this future Kingdom.
