zr1 , the zero one was the really special model in 1990, it was one of the fastest production cars you could go out and bought and it doubled in value. or doubled the MSRP over the original Corvette, so it was a really crazy Corvette in its day.

He had a 1972 Firebird and I took it somewhere to get some exhaust work done and they fixed it, hurry up, but they fixed it and I went and picked it up, drove it home. and then I got under the car to look at something and that lever was stuck, they had left it there and it stayed under my car the whole way home, so I had it for 20 years, probably some guy got scolded for losing the lever Hey guys, I forgot to film, but we have the disc down there, so we decided that's the only way to get this C-beam out, so I just took the driveshaft out now.
I want to see if this CD is stuck. I think I might need to get this parking brake cable out of here, so that's the C beam, the driveshaft goes directly here and this thing hooks into the differential and transmission to keep flexing. obviously when you step on it in a car with a lot of horsepower it can twist things so this just helps keep it from twisting it also helps keep the engine and transmission from coming out of the car because it's really stuck there, dropping the transmission, well I hope you did. one bulb left in it, it should be free one long shaft there it looks very stuck there we go there we go towers and lower it a little yes it comes slowly I love working on cars you know what I mean let's take a little lunch break and then we'll go back and take that thing out, just get this apprentice out of here.
You know that problem when you're stuck, apprentice, and you're trying to get rid of it and streaming is what I do. I'm talking about what you like the most, you get to 109, although this is exhaust, this is our catalytic converter, it goes up to our exhaust manifold, you have to take them out mostly, you have to take it out and then this hood here is super stuck . even though I took the bolts out, I'm still trying to figure out how to attach that thing, but I mean, if these come off, I hope I get a little better view of that, there it is, oh, it actually looks like a header already. that's quad, they can be cast iron or something, yeah, so this is our manifold that looks like our headers go into this big cat here has all this kind of exhaust gas recirculation stuff going on here, it we're going to make it a lot simpler on the rebuild so I mentioned before that my other Corvette that I used to have was a 1995 and it was the base model Corvette and I'm pretty sure it was like a decade ago and I did this but I put headers on that car , so I removed the original exhaust manifolds and I'm pretty sure they weren't like that.
I think they were cast iron, and most exhaust manifolds are just a giant piece of cast iron, they're super heavy and don't flow that well, and this is really cool. I have never taken the car a

that already had headers built in which is probably why the zr1 models are so much more expensive from the factory because they have a lot of upgrades like this, they also had it twice. so many holes for air to come in so these ones here are always open and they have these little valves here but the valves are totally frozen so you can see that so when we were driving this thing we were actually just driving I thought these They are the same size, the ones that are always open are smaller, so we were driving with less than half the amount of air that would normally go into this engine, which is probably why it wasn't running very well, It's also a little rusty. there, but this is, uh, this is coming, we're ready as soon as we can unhook this bell, they're about to start pulling this block up, we've got the engine lift hooked up to the engine, now we're.
You just have to lift it up you have to balance it a little it seems like it is lifting backwards I see it going up well there is always something that you forget to unhook like never in my life I took out two motors but there is always something like you think everything is wrong and they are not too the engines that I took out, we're in late '60s muscle cars, so there's a lot less stuff to do than this new 1990 Corvette with all the electronic computer gadgets, there's the giant. lt5 block so these things have dual overhead cams so their heads are just gigantic.
The blocks are actually normal size, but the head is just huge and sticks out as far as you can see. Also look at how rusty all this stuff is. I really liked it when I made the donut the other day. I really liked messing up the clutch and didn't do anything too crazy with it. I was just trying to go as hard as I could because I knew we were replacing all this stuff anyway, this is probably why. it broke down so easily this thing flooded and now it's super super rusty and nasty yeah don't let your car stay underwater that's the moral story here and we actually pulled this out with a single wire that wasn't there unlatched so we got that unlatched and then the motor came straight out with no issues which is amazing yeah cool so now we just have to fix it put it back in here taking it out was easy putting it back in will be tricky but we did not want.
This video is just a teardown video. This is a rebuild video, so today we'll install our first new part. If I could figure it out, you'd know that it's quite complicated to put everything together correctly.
