s in washington state, we have my friend sean on board and family and friends, yeah, I'm just having a good time great enjoying a bit of calm. spring weather, I'm so happy to be able to put this together, stay tuned for our octopus catch and we recover someone's prawn traps.

We're whizzing around here on our way to our place and sure enough, what do I see floating in the middle of this? canal at about 650 feet we see a boy floating at 7 a.m. and we're recovering someone's lost pawn trap. They dropped it somewhere around 300 feet, probably a little too deep for a line, and now he's floating at 660 feet, so we'll give it a try. and I find them on the internal websites. There's no phone number for your boy Snyder. He says that he can prepare a good roll and that he won't have any problems unless I'm wrong.

There will be no

in a couple of minutes thanks to our trap shooter. We were on the move again heading out to take our place. We set down our shrimp traps quite carefully to see how that other guy has set his traps. We are going to fish square traps regardless of whether they are round or square. Between $50 and $120 for a set of traps plus your bait and then your clips and then your line and then your guys. It's super expensive to just start shrimping, but it's a lot cheaper than doing it commercially, so next up is You see, I'm going to throw some traps overboard here.

We're going to set some traps uphill toward the shore, so we go from that 300 to 200 foot marker. At some point the

are a little shallower and a little deeper. Really, placing a hill gives you a chance to find out where the shrimp are, so if you set two traps like you do here, one could be 250 feet away and one could be 210 feet away, depending on how far apart you space them and that way You can really hone in by running a couple of traps uphill, really finding out how deep they are and then resetting all your traps on the right songs, if you set them too deep you may find a lot of creatures spawning. down there, the chubby logostina lobsters, people call them red rock crabs, there are a lot of other things down there and as we will see in this video, also octopuses, depending on where you are, it will be how many prawns you get, but also how many of those prawns get eaten too, so it's really important to keep your hands free, be careful, you know, in case I have kids on board, make sure they're inside while the prawn traps are going over the side, one of the things you could do.

What I have noticed is that the traps that we brought that were floating were not weighted at all, where we have a 2.2 pound or one kilogram dip weight on each trap, so those traps go down to the bottom very well. I just stretched the line a little to make sure they didn't get caught, it really lands well, then I throw that guy out. He has our name on it and our phone number, so if we have any problems, I can find him again and someone can contact us now. I'm pulling out the traps a couple hours later and something interesting is going to happen.
You will find that as the seasons narrow and fishing pressure increases there are often many people fishing the same areas, so in this case, just as I mention this, we will pass a set of shrimp traps and watch the current and we will make sure that the lines as they arise do not become tangled. with another, another set of gear, very important to be aware of other people fishing, commercial fishermen, so don't set your traps on top of anyone else's and while you're learning, just find an open space, just look for them. contours that are, you know, a few hundred meters away, you know, half a kilometer away, find another place.

I have family members who own commercial pawn boats and friends who are commercial shrimping right now in amazing weather and stuff, so yeah, cool. I appreciate that my family likes to go fishing with me and yes, it just allows us to enjoy the outdoors together and also put amazing food on the table, in this case we opted for prawns and striped shrimp, so yes, we are already fishing. very excited here, I have a little tangle, but I fixed it right there and boom, along comes the other shrimp trap and yeah, a little bit better on this one, I've got over a dozen shrimp in this one and you can see that maybe.
I'll be fishing a little deeper, I've got some lobsters on that one, so yeah, pretty good, about a couple dozen, maybe you can see them really excited to get into our frying pan and into our bellies, so that's it now. When you're not good at fishing, you have to fish a lot, so here we are taking out a few more traps, yes, and using at least four traps is probably a good idea, but in our case we have tons of people on board, which limits a 125 , I think it's about 200 in Washington state, so yeah, we want to get as close as possible.
Sean shows us a Dungeness crab that was about 250 feet away, it's not a keeper, so pull it back, of course, yeah, and you can see these traps. they are a little bit better, nothing more than detecting prawns on them, but you know, there is pretty good pressure, uh, you know, the commercial season hasn't started, but there are still a lot of people with traps out there, but very happy to know that these shrimp were falling there if you go to the store and buy shrimp, they will cost you between 30 and 50 dollars a pound. You know, really some premium seafood and yeah, nothing gets much fresher.
You can see those guys just hanging around and the good thing about this time of year there are no eggs because if you catch shrimp that are females with eggs, you have to put them back in the water as soon as possible, being very careful that the seagulls don't catch them, some will be eaten on the way to the bottom, but most should really survive if you put them back in the water right away, yes I'm very happy with this catch, it's not too hot in a day so just put it there like this without ice, let's say for this type of condiment.
One of the funny things is that when you're fishing on that date, you often find something else that comes up. In this case, we have a Pacific octopus that appeared in the trap and is trying to get out of the boat. We've got some scuppers in the back that it's actually starting to reach and they're kind of squeezed down and off the back of the boat, but we're going to let this little guy run free. You are allowed one octopus per person. per day, but you know, in this case we'll just let this guy go. Octopuses are amazing creatures.
I don't know if you've seen master octopus, the big big Netflix show, there you go, here's our second release of this because my kids can see oh, I'm putting real nature, not an aquarium in real life oh, now let's split up back to the back of my driveway a couple weeks after finding the guy whose traps were actually floating in 650 feet of water you found something yourself so this guy yeah once We found the same thing floating in the middle it was straight, yeah, um, so I picked them up, uh, but I didn't post it, there was a number on it, that's when I got it.
Back to that, I called the guy and he was in Maple Bay, yeah, and the same kind of thing, so awesome, looks like I need to get into that Facebook group, yeah, and you need your name or your number, it is what it is crazy at first. of the year we reviewed it and put it on, so it's surprising that this is on, but it obviously went wrong on this one, well, it's good, it's also a good trap series, it's probably worth 400 dollars, yeah, yeah, awesome, no, really, really.
