FTM 200 - Three lessons I learned after sending my radio for repair!

Mar 15, 2024
Alright, sitting here today with my FTM 200 just back from

repair

and I'm going to tell you

three

things I

learned

in that process, which is why the volume knob stopped working properly, it would turn down the volume but it would just boot up. I got to 100 and there was really nothing I could do about it except press it a little, so it looked like there was some physical damage to the button, whether it was a manufacturing issue. I don't really know, I decided not to go. to a local

repair

or try to find someone who could do that.

I wanted it so you would go straight to Aces, as it was still a fairly new

radio

. I called them and asked them to explain what I should do and I'm going to share it. With you what I

learned

number one, they are all covered by a two year warranty, they didn't ask any questions, they just told me to send the

radio

in and I didn't have to wait for an RA number or anything like that. I was able to get it. Send the mail immediately and start the process. They wanted me to write a cover letter explaining exactly what was wrong with the device and of course you have to include your personal information, an address, a phone number and an email, then send it so I can go ahead and write a little letter. explaining that the volume knob was no longer working properly.

More Interesting Facts About,

I felt physically different. It no longer had the smooth friction type. I don't know if that's the perfect word for it, but there's a certain amount to it. of tension when you turn it and I had lost some of that along with the fact that the volume was turned up to maximum which is uncomfortably loud in a small room once on the radio on the left I got a tracking number of course, I was able to see exactly when it got there, but then I didn't hear anything. I was expecting maybe a phone call from them or an email or a text or something and I didn't see any information so I got worried and called them.

They were able to find information pretty quickly and started asking me questions like they wanted to know the date the product was received, they wanted to know the service order number and I wasn't aware of any of that because I hadn't seen the email, which ended up What happened is that it got caught in my spam filter, so if you use Gmail like I do, spam is not one of the default labels visible, so I had to start looking around when they told me they had sent me a email and finally found out where he was and was able to work with him to clear everything up.

They really wanted to see the confirmation information and that was part of their way of identifying me as the actual owner and then they wanted to confirm my address when they sent it back and as I remembered that phone call and looked more closely at the email, I realized that you can go directly to the yasu website, you don't need to call them to follow up on your repair, there is a link at the top of the page that says repair status and once you have their email with an authorization number service, I should be able to write it for an update since my radio is finished.
I haven't been able to test it, but it's all there, so I was waiting for a tracking number that I was told to expect announcing that the radio would be returned, but I never received it in that format. It came in the form of a text message from FedEx and didn't actually say who it was. I just said I had a package on the way and that means it came from FedEx, it wasn't Yaesu who notified me of that and I was able to identify which package it was by simply writing down the sender's address, so it's a little tricky anyway, but the radio is back and everything is working correctly and I'm very happy about that.
It's hard to know exactly why you know I've been carrying this radio from my car to the place inside the desk you see it here in the video, so maybe things got better. I stumbled upon that process of movement. I've been doing it almost every day and practicing going on air and whatnot, so it's hard to know if there was a manufacturing issue with this particular volume button or if there was any damage on my part. In total, I think it took me, without realizing I had an email in my spam, probably about a month to get everything sorted out.
I submitted it right during the holidays, so I was expecting things to be a little slow, but the people at yasu were very nice when I spoke to them, so there were really no problems on my part in terms of feeling confident that they would get me They would return my radio in one piece and they would do it as quickly as they could, so there you have it. I hope you don't have to go through that, but if you do, maybe there are some valuable things you should know and I hope you come back for a future video.
