I didn't get any concrete answers on that, and you may remember this image of the classified documents seized from former President Trump's Mar-A-Lago estate tonight. Some wonder why we haven't seen a similar image of the classified documents found at Biden's inauguration or any visual image of Peter Alexander tonight pressing for answers at the White House. FBI agents spent nearly four hours today searching President Biden's Delaware Beach home in their latest search for mishandled classified documents. The president's lawyer later said that no documents with classified markings were found. that the search was conducted with the full support and cooperation of the president and that agents took some materials and handwritten notes for review, comes after the Revelation that the FBI searched Biden's former private office in November, two Senior law enforcement sources told NBC News, but the White House did not share with the public that the president today ignored shouted questions are you sure today was the final search for classified documents tonight?

President Biden's aides argue that, unlike former President Trump, they returned all classified documents immediately, but the White House won't say that. why they didn't tell the public about the FBI search in November and whether others haven't been revealed since the FBI conducted searches at other locations associated with the president that you or the White House know of. Look, I think we're providing information. As this continues and answering questions about the search activities as they take place, there have now been three known FBI searches at locations connected to the president, his former office, in which lawyers first discovered classified documents, his home in Wilmington, where the FBI found more classified documents. material after Biden's lawyers made their own discovery and today's search at Rehoboth Beach House Republicans are criticizing lack of transparency someone leaked this we would never have heard from this white house they would have covered it up forever special counsel investigation looming over The White House comes as the president met with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy with a showdown over raising the debt limit.

The White House demands that McCarthy reveal a budget proposal. Republicans are calling for spending cuts. We both present part of our vision of where we are. I want to reach out and I think after talking about both I can see where we can find common ground. Peter Alexander joins us tonight from the White House. Peter, I saw you there trying to get answers from that White House Council and I know tonight we have some new reports here on NBC News about the general counsel of the National Archives testifying before the House oversight committee that the archives had drafted a press release about the Biden documents after the initial story broke in January, but then something happened, explain, yeah, so let's walk you through it.
Through this, the general counsel, the National Archives' top lawyer, told the Republican-led House oversight committee during what was a transcribed closed-door interview that the department was instructed not to send a statement press release about the records rule in the discovery of those classified documents in Mr. Biden's former private office, according to three sources directly familiar with the attorney general's testimony, this statement was drafted shortly after the first media reported that Tom last month the documents were found at the Penn Biden Center and long after this case had been referred to the department of justice remember those documents at the Penn Biden Center were found in early November the files the lead attorney did not say who prevented him from issuing a release, but instead referred to the justice department's parameters for what it could say about the investigation Tom Peter Alexandra to us, Peter, thank you, the body that the administration is fighting to contain the consequences of handling classified materials on the president's side, meanwhile, former President Trump is moving forward with his upcoming run for the White House as special counsel also investigating the discovery of classified documents at his Florida home, so what?
The shadow will be cast in 2024, plus some

news

tonight about Florida Governor Ron DeSantis here to talk about all of this. Puck News senior political correspondent Tara Palmeri, former Republican congresswoman and NBC News political analyst Carlos Corbello, and former Biden campaign senior adviser Alencia Johnson are now the Chief Impact Officer at 1063 West Broad, a social impact agency and Lindsay. I want to start with you tonight. Biden has yet to announce a 2024 candidacy, but the optics of this continue to get worse, how can he convince the American people to trust or elect him? If the White House is not facing this head on well, I actually think the White House is talking about these documents and what they are doing and what they should be doing and what a lot of media outlets are doing is also showing the contrast and the handling by President Biden and his lawyers of these classified documents, as well as President Trump, and you see that they are trying to talk about transparency and compliance with the Department of Justice talking about the fact that they are not for on top of really cooperating. with the government on this, whereas in contrast, we have someone like President Trump, who was literally issued a subpoena and was alerted, excuse me, was alerted to these documents and it took him almost a year a year to even have some type of responsibility through the Mar-A-Lago search, so I think you will continue to see this contrast until the 20th.
I appreciate the response, but I find that the Democrats, especially in recent weeks, every time I ask them questions about this, they want to point the finger at former President Trump and you are absolutely right, they are two separate cases and what the former President did right now, as far as we know, is very different from what is happening with President Biden, but President Biden It was based on transparency, right? I keep saying this every time we have these segments, he led on transparency and they may be complying with the Department of Justice, but they are not being transparent with the American people.
The White House Counsel was outside the White House today talking to the White House Press Corps and couldn't ask, answer, answer simple questions like: Are there more documents? Are there other residents being registered? He just kept talking in circles and I wonder why the White House can't get in front of this. Well, I mean. Fair enough, I think when we talk about these classified documents we want to make sure people have the facts before we go out and say one thing to the American people and then have to come back and clean it up later. I think that's not just transparency, but that's an integrity thing, we want to make sure that there's no opportunity for there to be holes in a story in case you have to go back and clean something up, so I understand people's frustration, but sometimes it takes a little time behind the scenes for things to be revealed and this White House wants to make sure that the information that it provides and advances is the accurate information and the best information, right?
I appreciate that I appreciate that I just don't think they've revealed anything. I think all of this has been really fantastic reporting that has brought these stories to life because the White House is not actually revealing this. Tara, the situation is getting worse, not better for Biden, but here's the strange part. If they don't find anything in these classified documents, these could be classified documents that maybe shouldn't be classified for fighting, they're overclassified so to speak, they may have nothing to do with National Security, it just looks bad, it's absolutely the idea is that Get ahead of a story like this, you just posted it all.
I don't understand why the White House Counsel couldn't say it weeks ago and we're going to have the FBI search all the properties and this is how many documents we have. This is what we found, you know there needs to be more transparency and then when they say there are no more documents, that's what Jean-Pierre told the press secretary a day later. Oh, we found more, why don't they just give the information? The blackout makes it look like there is a fire where there is smoke. I mean, as a journalist, I know there's a lot of frustration over lack of information.
They say we are trying to comply with the Department of Justice, but in the end. of the day, I mean the president really can't be impeached and this is a political issue for him, yes, he needs to be open, yes, no, I agree with you, I think so, of course, I think it's a political issue more than a legal issue, so I and I think they need to come out and be open with people, yeah, you almost wonder why the president didn't go on camera and say, I want the FBI to search my beach house. I want me to search the garage where I keep the Corvette just to be in front of this Carlos, although I want to ask you, if you worked in Congress, you know that they keep deferring to the Department of Justice and it's essentially true, can they really not talk about this at all? or can they do it?
No or they won't look at Tom, the bottom line is that they don't want to talk about this and the irony is that these twin scandals because even though there are differences and that is clear, they are twin scandals that are diminishing and weakening Joe Biden so much like Donald Trump at the same time and this will provide an opportunity for other Republicans and other Democrats to want to carry the banners of their respective parties in 2024 because, at the end of the day, as Tara says, regardless of what happens happens legally politically this seems terrible, it causes the American people to lose confidence in both leaders and particularly in the Bond Administration.
I think it's embarrassing because they were so forceful in rightly criticizing former President Trump for this scandal because of his unwillingness to convert. about these documents, but the way they've handled this has been really confusing, it's been embarrassing, and it continues to erode the trust that the American people have in the White House. That being said, in my next question with Tara, I want to change. As for the Republican Party on the 2024 side, I know they're going to have new reports tonight about who is advising former President Trump and the problems the former President is having with the right to fundraising, so President Trump's team is very small and probably due to the fact that it hasn't.
He hasn't been raising money like he usually does, I mean he's almost getting at least half of what he had in the past in 2020, actually even less than half of what he made in the past and it's probably because He announced it so early right after. the 2022 elections, which were not favorable for him, he is on the electoral campaign and does not have much money to show. I think it was about five million dollars in his fundraising vehicle that Save America did and they ended up spending more. fundraising money on lists, emails, and texts than they made, so he's not starting off on a solid foundation.
Many candidates spend a lot of time thinking about the right time to announce because they want to show that they have money behind them and the fact thatannounced so early that she doesn't have much to show for it and one of her advisors who was expected to join Kellyanne Conway looks like she won't be joining the campaign and will instead sit on the sidelines at Fox News in the green room, where she She'll talk about Trump's campaign, give her advice as an advisor, maybe even call the shots, and if there's one thing I know from covering Donald Trump, she'll probably take her advice more seriously if she says it on TV instead of as her campaign manager, but I think you know she was a very public figure and, you know, seeing her decide to stay on the sidelines.
I don't know, it's an interesting move for her, I get it, I mean. I'm sure he has a lucrative deal with Fox, but, um, and for him, maybe he can't afford someone like Kellyanne Conway on the team or doesn't want to spend the money on an advisor like that, and she was especially with his fundraising number it was so small, yes, and she really was one of his workers who always went in front of the cameras and defended him no matter what the scandal was in front of her. I want to address you now, I want to ask you about 2024 and also about the Republicans.
The team of Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, teased a special announcement on February 15, likely the launch of her campaign, and the former president was asked about Nikki Haley. by the reporters this weekend, let's hear this Nikki Haley called me the other day to talk to me, talk to her for a while, but I said look, you know, follow your heart if you want to run, she said publicly and I never I would postulate against it. My president was a great president. I never applied. Did she call him? What did she say on the call?
No, but she called me. She said she would like to consider it. She was warning him. I told her she should do it. Valencia. President Trump obviously wants a very crowded primary to fracture the field, do you think this will work with the strategy here where he is inviting people to run against him? Well, I don't think he's inviting many people to compete against him, I guess. He's probably inviting the people that he thinks he could beat, but I think Donald Trump, you all were talking about this a few months ago about how he announced too early, a lot of the reason he announced too early is to distract. . your basis of these ongoing investigations all these things that I actually think weaken President Trump and what you will see, yes, there will be a lot of people, I'm sure they will challenge him, but I actually don't think he will succeed. throughout the primary, so there will be people who will also be ready to get rid of Trump.
You know, Republicans are talking about those behind the scenes and how they're tired of Trump being the face of their party and they want something new. and I think a lot of former Trump supporters will actually move on to the Nikki Haley of the world to the unfortunately Ron Desantises of the world and so it actually won't. I don't think it will work in his favor down the road. what you might think would be uh Carlos Trump posted on social media on his platform the quote that the president isn't exactly lying. DeSantis had some hesitation when it came to the pandemic, but he also won big victories for our own agenda and I have.
I mean, as you know, former governor. I have to say that Governor DeSantis has had some victories. Not what was called the so-called "don't say gay" bill for the people of Florida Republicans. Disney's special tax status and now AP Africa. The American history course is being revised, the college board will have more information on that later in the broadcast, but essentially, I don't know if the word is cave, but they definitely changed the curriculum with some of the problems that the governor had Saints. a lot of this is a win for primary voters, look Tom, all of these issues you mentioned are critical for DeSantis in a Republican primary, these are the cultural issues that motivate Republican voters, specifically in the primaries, so that's trying to check all these boxes, the abortion culture. war education and, frankly, from the perspective of someone who wants to run in a Republican primary, he is doing a pretty good job, which has given him broader appeal, allowing him to win re-election in Florida by a remarkable 20 points, those were all their pandemic policies. politically speaking, politically speaking, Ron DeSantis won the pandemic, that's what propelled him to a big victory here last November and it's what could give him broader appeal and help him reach independent voters and even some Democrats.
I remind people that many Democrats have moved to Florida. they moved in with Carlos during the pandemic because of his politics even though you say he won the pandemic which is a weird thing to win and I don't know what exactly you said but it sounded like that right? However, former President Trump does not have some facts on his side. Didn't he take a turn at the beginning of the pandemic on some of the things he's working on? Look at the beginning of the pandemic. like President Trump, Governor DeSantis shut down the state, shut down schools, shut down businesses, what DeSantis will say is as soon as the science showed it was safe to reopen, Florida reopened and Florida was a huge beneficiary when I say he won the pandemic.
I don't want to be insensitive, I'm speaking purely from a political perspective and Florida was rewarded. People moved to Florida. People visited Florida. Florida's economy did well while other states struggled. Those are facts and many voters here in Florida came out and rewarded Ron DeSantis for those policies in the last election Carlos rubello Valencia and Tara palmeri thank you very much for joining the main story tonight we appreciate you for staying in Washington and in the battle The congressman George Santos, who is now reportedly under investigation by the FBI, surrounds a claim that Santos stole three thousand dollars that was raised to pay for surgery for a Navy veteran's dying dog.
You may remember the story here in the main story. Veteran Richard Osthoff says he is talking to the FBI and turning over everything he has, including text messages with Santos, the FBI tonight declined to comment. Well, we're also following the latest

Ron DeSantis banned the course in Florida last week Sinclair Esomoi has the latest on the College Board's new changes to Advanced Placement African American Studies following pressure from critics to not include topics such as black lives matter and sexual orientation a criticism that many students in the pilot course resisted. It really hurt him like he thought we were moving forward in life. The College Board said its new curriculum includes the study of black and gay inventor artists. Americans are instrumental in the civil rights movement. This is the beginning of a process that will further democratize American education.
This latest chapter in the U.S. education debate sparked protests and legal pushbacks in Florida last week. Black history is American history. Republican Governor Ronda Santis Banning the pilot AP course in Florida, the latest move by her restricting the teaching of race and sexuality in public schools when you try to use black history to shoehorn queer theory. You're clearly trying to use that for political purposes. The college board's new curriculum will no longer include authors marked by Florida officials are a cause for concern, but it says the revisions were made regardless of political pressure, adding that it consulted with more than 300 African American studies professors and put Tested the course in 60 schools across the country.
Do you think this updated course framework will be enough? for Florida to lift its current ban. I don't think Florida is going to lift the ban because this course has never been discussed. NBC New York's Melissa Russo has this report as nurses protested in front of Mount Sinai on the third day of the strike. Noah Morton's parents were inside at his baby's bedside. Noah had spent his entire four-month life here in the NICU, but his parents say they had no indication that day would be Noah's last, it seemed so sudden that his father told the i-team describing the terrible news later that night. Noah's heart had stopped. I was surprised when his mother said that she thought she was getting better. Three weeks later, another surprise news report that the hospital is reviewing her son's care to see if any mistakes were made.
A hospital spokesperson says this type of review was conducted on many deaths in the NICU, but not all. Noah's mother said if they know his care was affected by the strike, we would like to know. A hospital spokesperson says Noah was a tragically ill baby. His parents say he was fine or at least stable while he waited for surgery. to repair a hole in his heart, but a Hospital member familiar with Noah's care says there were other factors related to the strike that they believe contributed to his death, such as inexperienced replacement nurses in the NICU and missing subtle signs that Noah's condition was deteriorating before the strike.
Sinai management had warned that it could affect their fragile NICU babies, some of whom were transferred to other hospitals to reduce the workload while the three-day labor action unfolded. Social media posts shared by striking staff and staff within the hospital spoke of near misses and replacements. nurses trapped in stressful, chaotic situations in various departments even as hospital administrators promoted operations to stabilize a 2010 report on patient outcomes during previous nurses' strikes in New York found a 19-fold increase in hospital mortality, There is some research and it suggests that when hospitals remain open when nurses are on strike, replacement workers, whether agency nurses or managers who are not used to being at the bedside, who take on that role, the quality of care decreases.
A spokesperson for Mount Sinai insists there is no reason to believe the strike affected Noah's care, saying that during the strike they had a trained NICU nurse for every NICU baby, including Noah's. The Morton family tells us they are anxiously awaiting more information about their son's care, and in the meantime, they also say they are struggling to afford burial. their son and have started a GoFundMe page to raise money for his funeral. Tom also responds incredibly sadly. Okay, Melissa Russo, thanks for that. We will leave the Americas tonight. We bring you an update of a story that we showed you for the first time.
In December, two Afghan brothers who fought alongside the Americans during the war on terrorism were finally reunited on American soil. One was able to come to the United States, but when the Taliban took power, the other had to make his way from Pakistan, Brazil and the United States. Southern Border Julia Ainsley tonight on The Afghan ally left behind today Iran has done the right thing and I would like to thank those who have worked tirelessly to secure justice for my brother, a reunion of two brothers that had been months in the making, one day we can leave the United States.
I dream thank you very much thank you all thank you for a while Sami Safi had been fighting for the release of his wassi brother since he crossed the southern border of the United States in September and was detained in a federal prison he thought yescoming to America would make him be treated as a hero for years the brothers fought alongside the US against the Taliban Sammy as a translator and wassi as a member of the Afghan Special Forces then the brothers' lives diverged Sammy got a visa to the US for his service and became a US citizen while his brother stayed in Afghanistan until US forces withdrew from the country and in August 2021.
He is now a target of the Taliban for his help to the Americans. Wassey escaped to Pakistan, where he was given a humanitarian visa to Brazil, from there he undertook the dangerous journey that so many other migrants make through the Darian Gap and Central America through Mexico and finally to the border with the United States. There he was upon his arrival in September. He was detained in a federal prison and accused of crossing the border illegally, a crime that thousands of other migrants commit daily without being imprisoned. okay listen to my main story Visa was the first to talk to wassi from prison in December for months.
Sammy went on a court-wide press pleading with lawmakers for his brother's release, even reaching out to President Biden's desk with a request for a presidential pardon, and then last week, Sammy got the call he had been waiting for from the Department of Justice. justice dropped all charges against his brother my hands were shaking and I honestly couldn't believe he was released to live with him in Texas it was very hard for me to believe that I am holding him in my arms again after so many years, but shortly after his release , Sammy realized that his brother still urgently needed his care.
He endured beatings throughout his brutal Journey through the Americas, leaving him with significant injuries, hearing loss in one ear, and missing teeth left by the doctor. work five hours on the first day of his release so that he could at least eat soft foods. Sammy said his brother did not receive the medical attention he needed for his injuries inside the prison at the Aiden Detention Center when we spoke with Sammy Wassi. in too much pain to get close to the camera. I'm trying to console him. I'm trying to tell him that everything will be okay. You are safe.
They won't send you back to Afghanistan. Have you found the happy ending to this story? It feels like the happy ending. I think the challenge has just begun. I think now I have to work even harder to give him a normal life. Alright. Julia Ainsley joins us tonight from Washington and Julia. I want to come back to something in your report. There is an allegation that Wazi was not cared for after that dangerous journey when he ended up inside the Eden Detention Center on US soil. That's right, Tom and we contacted the Civic facility that runs the Eden Detention Center and they said they were not aware of the allegations in the report and that they take seriously their role and responsibility to provide high quality medical care to People in their care said their team follows basic civic standards for health care and the standards set by their government.
Partners, you know. I want to talk about wazi. Trip because it's so amazing that he goes from Afghanistan to Pakistan to Brazil through the Darian uh Gap directly to the US. Do we know anything else about his trip? It is an extraordinary story and it started because he could not get on one of those last flights out of Afghanistan in August 2021, he had to escape to Pakistan, a very dangerous journey, and obtain a humanitarian visa for Brazil. He was also hit on the way, which is why he has many of those injuries that, according to him, were not treated. but now it's not exactly an easy road ahead, he still hasn't been given any kind of guarantee that he can legally remain in the United States, it's unlikely that the US government will try to deport him back to Afghanistan, We haven't seen that happen, but he hasn't been told so far that he's free from removal and he's still in limbo after helping our troops in Afghanistan.
It's pretty incredible, okay Julia, we thank you for the story that emerges from today's touching moments and emotional tributes to Tyree Nichols. we welcomeThe case of Tyree Nichols shocked this nation and today his friends, family and civil rights leaders touched the nation with their words in memory of him, so tonight we want to leave you with some of those powerful moments from that Church of Memphis that it was not Public Safety, it was not in the interest of maintaining the safety of the public because one has to ask, was it not in the interest of maintaining the safety of the public that Tyree Nichols was here with us today?
How can you have the same Department and then continue crying on one side of town without beating people to death, but you can't do it on the other side of town unless you feel like you can get away with it. I can't speak for everyone in Memphis. I can't speak for everyone here but for me I think that man would have been white you wouldn't have hit him like that that night I see the world showing him love and fighting for his justice but all I want is for my little brother to come back and even in her death he was still polite and asked her to do it.
Please let us never let Memphis be forgotten because his legacy will be one of equal justice, he will be the model in the future. 20 days we will start counting, we can count up to 20. and every time you kill one of some video, let's say that the legacy of Tyree Nichols is that we have equal justice quickly quickly Swift quickly thank you for watching our YouTube channel.
