Mar 24, 2024
Hi everyone, for today's video I know the holidays are over and our spaces can feel a little empty after taking down all the decorations, so I wanted to give you my top 20 crafts that you can essentially create for no money, yeah. You may need to buy some supplies, but for the most part a lot of them are bringing the outside in or maybe some things you can find in your recycling bin, so with that being said, let's go ahead and start with the first project by first time. project I wanted to make a cement jug base and I've been saving this empty fireball whiskey bottle and I thought this would be perfect because the shape is already so pretty.

Obviously I don't like all the labels and stuff. like so, so let's transform it with some paint and some texture, so the first thing I have to do is remove some goo and just follow the instructions on the back and I just apply the goo on all of the places where there is adhesive because I don't want any of that there before I apply my texture and if it's not gone, that's totally fine, just take a little bit of warm water and a little bit of soap and let it sit and it will come off like that.

It kind of speeds up the process a little bit and with all the labels and everything removed, now I just need to remove the lid and we're ready to start the texturing process and the product that I'm actually going to use is something called Henry's Feather Finish and I actually used it for a secondhand release that you guys will see in the next few months, but I had a lot left over so I'm trying to use what I have and the most important thing with this specific medium is you. I want to get the right consistency, almost like a tomato soup consistency, so it's going to be a two to one ratio between this mixture and the water and then I'm just going to add water until I get the right consistency and then I was just going to spread it all over. this vase and I purposely didn't use a brush because I feel like sometimes when I paint things on it it makes it harder to pull back because I wanted it to be a smooth surface overall, so I sanded it with 120 grit sandpaper until everything was nice covered.

We just bought a house so we were in the process of repainting it and we had a lot of samples left over so I decided to just give it a base coat after all. It was filled with a new gray and then I'm going to take some of that new gray and split it into two separate sections, making one much lighter and one much darker, and the inspiration behind this was actually this bowl that I took as a lens from the Studio McGee line and whenever I find that I really like a piece, I really try to study why I like it, that's what the flecks are, the texture, the depth, the terracotta color around the edge, so I really try to imitate what which I love and applying it to whatever I'm doing, so I added just a couple drops of white paint on the left and a couple drops of dark brown paint on the right and I'm just blending those two colors together.

I didn't want it to be that high contrast, but enough to create some dimension and depth at the base of this jar, and to apply it, I just use a slightly damp paper towel and carry it around. the vase until it is completely covered and you have gotten the look you wanted. Obviously, this is really customizable. You don't even have to do this step if you don't want to, but again I'm trying to imitate that bowl. the best I can and now I'm just applying a little bit of this, like dark terracotta brown paint to the rim, as well as making a speckled effect like the one on the bowl and finishing off the face of the cement jar for the next project.
I really wanted to make a paperweight, but I wanted to make it with a material that was really natural, so when we moved into our new house we have an excessive amount of stones in our backyard, so I decided to choose this one specifically for myself. I liked that it lay nice flat and that the scale was appropriate for paper and then I also bought this hardware for my nightstands at Ikea so I needed four but they sent me five so I had one left over and I thought this would be nice just put it on top of the stone and make it as a cute paperweight.
If you wanted to apply something similar and make maybe a larger rock as a doorstop, I think that would be really cute too. I'm applying it using With some e6000 you could probably use hot glue, but I just wanted a good, secure hold, so I'm going to fill that space between the center and the outside edge with e6000 and then apply it to the top of the stone and Lo I held it there for a few minutes just to make sure the e6000 started to get a little sticky and if you are going to use a stone I would definitely recommend putting some of these little felt pads on the bottom so you don't scratch any of your surfaces, but this is how it will be for the next project.
I really wanted to make a mixed metal boat. Now you can find these tin cans at thrift stores and they're usually very affordable, but I keep this one on hand from the holidays and you can usually find them at Walmart and they're only five dollars to start with, but they come with different variations of popcorn. of corn and things like that, so I decided to take this can and I wanted to just spray paint the whole thing in a color like bronze and instead of just leaving it like that, again we've been trying a lot of different accessories for a lot of different projects in our house and I had this left over .
I think it's very elegant and I really love that it's not bronze. I love that it's a little bit different so I'm going to take a little bit of e6000 and apply it to the top of the lid and I think this is the easiest transformation. but it has a big impact and it's something that I can put in a pantry, I can put it in a linen closet, I can display it on open shelves and I think it will always look great for the next project that I've really wanted to do. I have an umbrella stand especially before spring arrives and in fact had shared it with me in a fall decoration.
I went to a garage sale and it was the last day and she ended up giving me this for

free

. I think I initially bought it out of goodwill, but I decided to make a eucalyptus wall hanging for the fall, but now I'm left with this empty container and I thought it would be perfect to put an umbrella inside, so all I'm going to do is grab a knife jagged. knife and just clean it a lot, just remove the foam. I had the happy surprise of finding more stones at the bottom of this container again, so I decided to take everything out and then I'm going to really clean it.
Well, and even after removing all the stones and all the foam, there is still quite a bit of debris inside that I really wanted to remove, so I decided to grab some 120 grit sandpaper to try to remove as much of it. of that foam and then I let it sit overnight with some warm soapy water and it cleaned up nicely. The materials I used to make this DIY that I would have otherwise thrown away are a leather belt and I have macrame cord because I like to make macrame in my

free

time, but if you don't have macrame cord, you can use rope, a gun hot glue and then some ball shape.
I'm using this Styrofoam ball from a previous project because it's the exact size. I wanted that but you could definitely use a ball from your kids that they no longer use or a basketball or a ball from the dollar tree and get a DIY that is very similar to this one that I'm going to share with you. The first thing I had to do was make a cut in this leather belt to make the leather rope ball handle. Now I wanted it to be proportional in terms of size, so I used quite a bit of the belt.
If you have something that is much smaller than this ball then you probably wouldn't need to use as much and after removing the section of belt I wanted I just needed to hot glue the ends to make it really look like a handle because that's what we're going to place on it. the top of this styrofoam ball and now that our leather handle was essentially built, it was time to make a space at the top of the ball, because this is styrofoam, I was able to just write of taking some scissors and just punching them out If you have something that's a little less forgiving, it might be a little more challenging, but this was super easy before I really wanted to commit to putting that leather handle on top and hot gluing it on.
I actually wanted to start with that rope first, so I'm just running a little bit of that rope through the hole that we just created and now I'm going to add that leather handle again and now that our handle was good. and securing it, it was time to start wrapping the rope around the handle, as well as around the entire surface of the ball. You could probably cut the macrame cord to the right size if you knew exactly how much you needed, but I had no idea how to calculate it. so I decided I was going to continue untangling it from its spool and then hot glue it in very small sections.
I think working slowly on a DIY like this really pays off because everything ends up being really even and looks really put together and you're not rushing and you don't have big empty spaces so definitely be meticulous during this phase of the DIY because I really think it will have a big impact later. Another thing you have to be really meticulous about is how much glue you're actually applying to the ball or the surface that you're covering because you don't want to be able to see any of that glue because that's what really sets things apart from looking like you could have bought them at a store or look like this is a DIY project so I would say less is more but make sure everything adheres well and when I got close to the end of the ball I made a small hole in the bottom to have something to do.
Passing the macrame cord for our second DIY project is actually my favorite in this video because I think most people have a box like this in their house, especially after Christmas or the holidays, maybe they have something like perfume or new shoes or in my case, I bought this coffee warmer because I literally have to microwave my coffee 46 times a day, so it's really been a nice gift, but I'm really excited about the box it comes in because I'm going to make a little keepsake box that I would make. Let's say you definitely want to use a box that has a bottom and a top instead of something that opens, so I mean use what you have, but I would say this style of box is the best, so all you need is I'm really doing with this.
When I mixed a couple of paint colors, I was going for a light pink tan color and I wanted it to have some variations, so I didn't mix the paint very well because I wanted to see it almost have like a marbled effect because the top of this box was really vibrant colors, it took three coats to completely cover it and then I also wanted to mention that I added a little bit of baking soda if you want to thicken the paint, almost give it like a chalk paint consistency which is a really inexpensive way to do it and the Most people have baking soda in their house for cleaning or cooking so I definitely think this is a good trick and then once my box was completely covered top and bottom I'm like a hoarder of different knobs I have so many different ones around the house so I ended up grabbing one of the knobs I had because I saw on McGee and company's website that they had a little knob on the top of the little box like this so I decided I was just going to measure the part top of the box and find the center.
I'm using a square. You can use a tape measure or whatever you have and once you can determine the center of the top of the box. Actually the knob I chose had a small notch on the bottom so I was able to poke it into the top of the box and then add the smallest amount of hot glue and apply it to the top of the box and then a Last thing I wanted to mention is that I covered everything with a coat of matte mod podge just to make sure the paint didn't chip, and while my husband was out with our son, he texted me this photo. and I said you wanted me to bring this coffee table home and I said absolutely, I loved the shape of it, I loved the slats, it already had a lot of visual interest, it was a nice modern shape, but the only thing I ended up having to do to I guess the repair was to add some wood glue because the pegs didn't really stick together on the bottom, but otherwise it was in very good condition, it obviously had water marks and stuff like that on the top, so when that It happens, I always take my electric sander with a 100 grit sandpaper and just get the rough spots off, but I also wanted to stain this a different color, so I ended up putting everything down, even the sides, just getting all those rough spots. off and any stains they had previously chosen, once I was pretty happy with the amount of color I was able to remove, I didn't want it to be perfect, perfect because I still wanted it to be somethingrustic and worn, I ended up just taking some painter's tape to protect that top piece because I ended up just painting the bottom with some matte black chalk paint.
I really liked the juxtaposition between a really modern bottom and then kind of an unfinished rustic top, I think it's a really good mix, which is why I ended up choosing black paint on the bottom, but if you wanted to completely sand and stain the whole thing, It would look really amazing, but also keep in mind that it would be a lot more work. Chalk paint is very forgiving. so it really allows you to not necessarily have to prime and sand and do all that. because chalk paint really adheres very well to already finished surfaces, but one thing I want to point out just for all the slats, this was a really project. hard to not leave drip marks because as soon as you said when you get to the next corner there was a drip mark so I would say if you have something like this you just have to keep changing the direction of your brush, go vertically and then horizontally just to make sure everything spreads very well.
I ended up having to do it. two coats as you can see here on the left this was while I was painting the second coat and on the right see how it's a little streaky it needed a little better coverage but two coats was able to cover extremely well and after I was really Happy with the coverage I got on the bottom it was time to remove the painter's tape and I had to ask my husband to stain the top of the table so we are using the same stain we use all the time guys it's special. walnut, if you have another suggestion, leave it in the comments below and this is how it turned out: we are going to make a kind of paper mache vase without actually using paper mache because if you have ever made paper mache, it takes a very very long time and it actually has a decent amount of ingredients.
If you have a really good recipe, leave it in the comments below, but every recipe I've found that worked always has a lot going on and it takes a lot of time. so we are going to make our vase look like it is made of paper mache because that is very trendy right now, not only mcgee and company, but many high end stores sell vases and bowls that look exactly like this and Obviously, the first thing you need is an empty vase or bottle, as you saw in the first clip. I was removing all the labels.
I do it using Goo Goo. You can buy it at the Dollar Tree for a dollar or you can simply soak it in hot water. water and I take a little bit of dish soap and it just takes a little bit longer and the first thing I'm doing is taking some flat white acrylic paint and mixing it with a minimal amount of baking soda just to thicken it a little bit because I read in somewhere that before you apply putty or drywall putty to any type of vase or bottle, you want to make sure that you create a barrier in the middle, so I'm just painting this completely with a coat of white paint and then I did a coat. of just putty everywhere and let it dry overnight, definitely before you do this project you're going to want to put a lot of things down because it gets pretty complicated because you're using your fingers with the putty and you're mixing paint. with the putty, so it definitely protects any surface you are going to work on.
I mixed the territorial beige and a brown color I have. I'll be sure to link the names of the paints I used in the description box below and I thought about using a brush just to maybe give it a cleaner finish, but I actually really liked how it looked when I applied it with my fingers, so the first thing I do here is I apply a small amount of putty on some cardboard and then I take that territorial beige and I mix it with the putties, so the goal of this now is to get the color that is similar to what I saw on Magee and company's site, which is more similar. a beige, not a pure white and after I was able to get that nice beige base I decided I needed to lighten it up a bit so I ended up taking some cream flat acrylic paint and mixing it with the current putty mix I already had. so it feels a little brighter and has a little more variation as well, so I just do it using a little pressing motion just to give it a really nice texture and I basically just kept doing that, I kept switching between the darker of the two and then the lighter of the two, I don't know why but this reminded me a lot of mixing makeup and after doing it everywhere until I got to the top of the vase, I was happy with it, I was happy with the way it looked, but I still wanted to give it a little more texture, so I ended up just applying some dark brown paint on the vase as well to give it a little more dimension.
The first thing you need is two pretty decent sized rocks and they need to be of similar size and able to stand upright so it's actually more of a challenge than you think but I was able to find two that were pretty close and what I'm doing is. What I'm going to do is use some gold leaf paper. You can order this on Amazon. I think that's where I ordered this at the same time and it's really affordable for under ten dollars. I think it costs about six dollars and they send you that much. What I'm doing is simply taking some mod podge and applying it into the crevices of each rock or stone and after I've applied enough mod podge with a brush, I'm going to tear off small sections of the gold leaf paper and adhere it to the stone and the great thing about a DIY like this is that it's completely customizable, not only can you customize how much you make, but you can also customize the colors that you make and I think that can be really attractive.
For everyone, I ended up focusing mainly on the sides and the front that was going to be shown because there is no point in doing the bottom because no one is really going to see it and after being very happy with how it looked, it looks really crazy, this is Definitely one of those DIYs where you definitely want to trust the process while it's happening because like now it seems crazy, but you can grab sandpaper or if you don't have sandpaper, sanding block, nail file, whatever. be to go out. One of those places where you didn't apply the mod podge to give it a more finished look and you can always remove more and add more depending on what your style is in your home, this seemed like a good option and I love it. how these turned out, the next DIY is definitely one you'll love or hate now, I personally love antler decor so if that's not your thing, maybe just use a branch or something outside, but just as a note As an aside, deer antlers fall off every season and it doesn't hurt them to do so it's like we lose teeth so we're not doing anything wrong here and all I'm doing is just painting the antler with some white uh matte chalk paint, Of course, you can choose to leave it natural, but I wanted it to look a little more finished and it was too similar to the color of the extra slab of wood I had lying around, so all I'm doing is That simple guys, I'm just looking for the center where the antler will be flattest and I'm just going to use some old fashioned hot glue and apply it directly to the antler and then hold it there for a good while.
Wait a minute with that extra piece of wood, now you could, I guess, make two of these and use them as bookends, but I just wanted a nice decoration for the shelves or almost like a paperweight and in the end it really does look so beautiful. and while we're on the topic of antlers and antler diy projects, i wanted to share with you a diy i did during the holiday season a few years ago and all i grabbed was a hurricane vase from dollar tree and a candle from dollar tree and as you can see I have quite a few antlers and I'm always trying to find creative ways to use them and one time I saw they were charging just under a hundred dollars for a hurricane antler vase, a ceramic hurricane candle holder . barn, I knew I had to try to replicate it and do it for a lot less, so I'm just placing the antlers around this hurricane vase to see how it will sit, obviously each antler is literally different, so just having to keep playing with it until you're happy and then I just applied some hot glue to hold the pieces together and that was really it.
If I were to do this now, I might want to make some e6000 instead just because I don't really want to see glue, but otherwise this was a super easy, inexpensive, non-time-consuming DIY project that anyone could do and I was able to save a lot of money to get this look for much less. Why are we going to do it? a magazine rack using an old cereal box and some wood contact paper. Now, for some reason, the materials are very easy, but it was also very challenging to make this DIY, so I'm going to share with you a couple of tips that I learned. along the way and this was my second attempt at this DIY.
I made it once before and it just didn't look right and I think it was because I was using a cereal box that wasn't family size, so definitely use a larger one if you want. I'm going to do this DIY and the first thing you want to do is just remove all the tabs on the top and then obviously you have four sides so you're going to have to mark where you're going to cut so I just did about an inch from the top after where we cut the tabs and then I took just an old gift bag, you can use a ruler or whatever you have and I made a line because that's how I'll know exactly where each piece is.
I'm going to connect then I made the opposite side and then I made about four inches down, I made another line and basically on the front and the back of the cereal box we're going to connect those two with diagonal lines. It is a little difficult. To explain it, it's easier if you just watch what I'm doing I think, and also the first time I did this DIY I used a permanent marker because I thought it would be more ideal, but it ended up making the cardboard bleed and almost shred. a little bit so just use a pen or pencil and now it's time to cut along the places we've marked so you can use a utility knife but I feel like I have less control in a DIY like this if I don't .
I don't have scissors so I personally chose to use scissors because the middle is hollow so you don't really have anything to go up against with your box cutter and after you've removed the top piece you're left with something that's starting to look like a magazine holder box and obviously you can find them for a very affordable price at ikea or the thrift store, but every time I make crafts like this that I didn't spend any of my own money on, I think there are probably a few of you. I would be in a similar situation out there, so I should share it with you, so the first thing you do when you attach contact paper to something like this is take the longest side and attach that contact paper. first to that side and normally with contact paper you are adhering it to whatever it is being applied to, but in this situation you are handling your item and not the contact paper, so you are going to move the cereal box from one side to the other. side to side. of rolling it in the contact paper almost to cover all of those pieces, obviously you want to make sure that the folds that you know are really nice and tight and you're sealing everything up really well by cutting at 90 degree angles on the bottom and the top once you you have each side covered um you have a bad side we'll call it because obviously there's going to be a place where they start and meet so look at the back right and then just trim off the excess and this one came out really nice and if the wood really doesn't it's your thing, you can use marble, you can use grass cloth, you can use any contact paper you have, so I definitely recommend this DIY.
I have a lot of these workplace mats and I never know what to do with them I don't really use them for anything they just collect dust so I decided this would be the perfect project and then the box I had left over from Christmas so I'm going to use it as Well, the first thing I do is take the lid of the box and I'm just mapping out where I'm going to need to cut the cork. This is definitely one of those projects, although it shows when you take your time. so don't rush into cutting and measuring because you want everything to look really clean and seamless and after I was able to cut out the top section I just applied a lot of hot glue to the top of the box and then attached the cork directly.
On top of that, the reason I didn't just measure each side of the lid and top at once and cut everything at once is because, as you can see, even though the cork is very thin, it's still adding quite a bit. a little bit taller than what I previously would have needed to cut, so you'll see what I mean here in a second, but it's best with a project like this to go slow and go down a section, apply the cork, and then measure the next section. then with the added length taken into account, so nowwith the top attached I made parallel sides first and then I made the other two sides, so even though it's a square and they will all be the same, you want there to be sides. to match so you're covering the ends so it doesn't look like a DIY it looks like something you would actually buy in a store and from here on out the process is really repetitive just cutting and hot gluing and attaching and then just being clever with the sections you'll do next and once the top is mostly done, you'll see what I mean in a moment.
I just needed to figure out how far up I needed to take the cork and it's not because I wouldn't. I wanted to take it all the way to the bottom because I knew the lid wouldn't close because, again, the depth of the cork was going to be too much and it wouldn't look good if it went all the way up. to the top of the bottom half of the box and again, just like we did with the top lid of the box, you want to apply those same principles to the bottom half and just work section by section and not measure everything at once and cut all. at once because it's not going to be up to par again due to the depth of the cork and once the box was ready and completely covered, it was time. for me to add something extra to it, I don't know if you remember when I did that table with corner supports.
I had leftovers of them, so I decided to apply them to the top of this box just to give it an extra touch. something extra and that's how our cork box turned out. I really wanted to try to make something that looked like driftwood. Driftwood is super trendy and home decor right now and if you have this naturally around you, it's wonderful, but I don't like it. I live in Maryland so I'm going to do the best I can with this very large branch I found in my backyard because the branch was too long. I just used my miter saw and cut a section that I really liked and that looked like me. the driftwood shape because of how windy it is, this is the best I could do so I actually had to do this in sections but you just want to completely cover the branch with water and then add about a cup of bleach to that. water and then you also want to add a little bit of salt and a little bit of baking soda.
I say a little because I just sprayed it on the branch itself just to make sure it really started to lighten the branch, so it depends on how much you would need. It depends on how big your branch would be and so on, so I took a cup of iodized salt and applied that to the solution as well and then covered it all with water, so I let it sit for at least 72 hours in this mixture of lye and then I got out my power sander and sanded all of that down to make sure it was nice and light and shiny, just like the driftwood is now, if driftwood isn't really your thing, you can always paint this branch, you can paint it. gold, you can do whatever you want to it, but I really think this adds a cool sculptural element to a bookshelf without spending any money.
It's super easy. I've had this little vase for quite some time and never use it. because I don't really like it so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to recycle it a little bit when I say aged spice face what I mean is it's going to go in your spice drawer or your spice rack. and you will find things that make vases and pottery look aged so I chose to use cinnamon and nutmeg and I have seen some people on YouTube do this. Tina Lay did it really well, so I'll be sure to link to it. his video in the description box below, but before we get to that quick little tip, when you're spray painting, spray paint the bottom first and then flip it over and do the top because that's what you'll see all over time. you want the cleanest finish on what you're going to see and after the paint had dried it was time to add our spices so again I used nutmeg and cinnamon and all I'm doing is just taking a little bit in my hands and then rub it all over the vase in no particular order or reason.
I just rub it all over the vase until I'm happy with how it looks. I really love this one. I saw it on a restoration hardware site and it is very expensive and I feel like I was able to achieve a similar look for much less. The trickiest part of this project is because my vase didn't have much texture yet. I had to do it. more or less get it into the cracks that were already there because it's going to take a lot of coats so basically what's going to happen is I'm going to apply the cinnamon nutmeg mixture and then take a matte clear coat and cover all the work I just did it and then I applied coat after coat after coat and ended up doing I think four coats total and the reason you have to do that clear coat is because you need something to seal the mixture you just applied so I wish there was.
Otherwise, if your vase is textured, you'll be in much better shape than me, you'll probably only have to apply one or two coats, and honestly, this is the best smelling vase you'll find. I've made it a few times and in the end it looks so pretty that I'm very happy with how it turned out. It's just tedious because you have to do a lot of layers on top of other layers, but in the end it turns out really beautiful and that's kind of our spice. The face turned out for the next project again we're going to bring the outside in and we're going to do some framed antler artwork so all I did was have an old canvas and I'm taking an antler and by the way now.
It's a good time to look for antlers if you live in an area where there are a lot of deer because they usually molt between December and March, so all I'm doing is hot gluing the back of the antler to the canvas so it's one solid piece and some of you had actually asked if there was some kind of substitute instead of using an antler because I guess sometimes they're harder to get if you find a branch or if you find something like that. pebbles or something and you want to make a nice three-dimensional work of art.
I think that would also look great with the antler now attached to the canvas. The last thing I have left is to just spray paint it white because I wanted it. to be more monochromatic and I think this look is very timeless another piece of wall art that you guys really loved was the melted wax wall art and all you need again is a blank canvas and some mod podge and if not They have mod podge, you could use a little bit of Elmer's glue diluted in water and the first thing you're going to want to do is just spread that mod podge all over the canvas so it's almost tacky because what we're going to put on top of it.
It's just some old candles that have melted and there's a little bit left that you can't use the candle anymore, but we're going to apply all this wax on top of this canvas and I did it without rhyme or reason, I just wanted it to feel very abstract, it's a Different version of maybe making that plaster wall art you've seen everywhere, but instead of using plaster, wax gives it a more polished look. and I think it looks really beautiful so if you have a canvas lying around and some old candles lying around this is the perfect project to make and again because I like a really monochromatic look I decided to spray paint it white so remained. all pretty in one color and I had this black dollar tree frame and I just glued the corners to the back of the frame and that's how it looked for the next project, we're actually going to do a DIY wall. sconces and really these are like little mini wall shelves that I created with some scrap wood, because my son has a tendency to get into things he shouldn't and it was no longer safe for me to keep candles on our couch with him around , so I still wanted that cozy factor so I decided to make them with just some wood I had lying around so I cut them to the size I wanted.
Obviously, you can adapt this to whatever is happening in your house. but as a general guideline, you just want them to be big enough to be able to hold a candle upright and before I paint them, I'm just going to put them together, so I'm going to make two little marks on the back. so I know where I'm going to need to screw from the back to the bottom so it's perpendicular so I can hold the candle and I think the only thing I would change today if I did this is maybe just add a little bit of wood glue between those pieces , but otherwise they have been maintained very well.
I still have them to this day and love them very much and for the next project we are going to make a bamboo wall hanging tapestry. magazines lying around I had clothespins lying around and I wanted a substantial piece of art and my nephew had picked up a bamboo stick when we were walking one day so I decided I was going to use that to anchor this space. but hang quite numbing images that feel summery and give a really relaxing feeling. You can obviously do whatever you want and the images you choose will completely affect how the overall piece will turn out, but it's definitely very customizable. project if you don't have bamboo lying around that's fine you can use a peg if you have it or just a branch from outside I think that would look cool and rustic too and then I was able to separate all the images I wanted.
Using a box cutter and just like the straight edge of an old box, I simply set them aside, took some twine and some needle thread to attach the pictures to the clothespins and for the twine just I estimated how much it cost. I'm going to need to give myself a little leeway and I just tied a double knot in the bamboo stick on each side so I can hang it from a nail on the wall and for the needle thread I just tied several knots around the bamboo stick, so I was able to attach it to the clothespins, but I just wanted it not to be so obvious, so I went with needle thread.
I just wanted to let it fall back and let my eyes rest because I wanted the images to really be the star of the show, but you could probably use whatever you have on hand. I wanted to include this DIY because even though it's not necessarily my design aesthetic to this day, I still feel like it's pretty cool. DIY for so many different types of people, maybe you are renting, maybe you have a bedroom and you can't make many holes in the wall and you can't hang very heavy artwork. I think this is a really good option, esp.
If you like to change your decor frequently you can always change the pictures but the main piece will always be done hmm and last but not least is the stained rustic bench. You guys love this DIY and so do I. This bench on the side of the road in Scottsdale when I lived there and I decided to throw it in my car and my husband to this day can't believe the transformation and honestly it takes time when you find tickets on the side of the road and They're free and, Honestly, they usually get rid of them for a reason, so you usually have to spend a lot of time on it, but not money, which is always a good thing.
This particular piece took longer just because I feel like if the back had been open or flat somehow it would have been a lot less time consuming but this was definitely the thing that took the most time was the sanding of everything, still not I would change what I did. and how I sanded it like I hadn't used any kind of citrus strip or anything like that. I'm glad I took the time to save what I could save and then instead of painting it I decided to use stain now, this was my first time actually using stain so I was definitely nervous about trying it but I was so glad I did. done in the end because the end result was so beautiful and really rustic and very much my vibe.
Overall, I remember being pleasantly surprised with how the stain applied and I think I ended up doing two coats, but there were a couple of spots where the stain didn't take as well, so I applied some spray paint brown just to soften. to even things out a bit and I think it helped the piece come together overall. One comment I received long after sharing this bench was that you guys never find anything really good on the side of the road and yes. Like me, this bench was literally in ruins, it needed to be repaired in several different ways and you know you just have to like to see the potential in things and not just write it off because it initially looks so horrible because you guys like it.
