Apr 23, 2024
Can you tell us how you got your big break in the music industry? Yeah, it goes back to uh um. He used to play with Randy Rhodes in Qui A Riot in the '70s and then when Randy joined Azie they recorded a couple of records. with the original Blizzard rhythm section of O and Diary of at the time they were ready to start the US tour, they replaced the U rhythm section they already had, uh, Tommy Aldridge joined the band and they were about 10 days from starting. the tour, so the trust in Factor had to be very high because they didn't want someone who was detrimental to the situation, you know, as far as being a bad influence on Azie, basically, you know, and Randy said, well, You know, Rudy isn't. an alcoholic, no, he's not a drug addict, you know he's trustworthy and he can play this, you know, uh, that's how I got the job on Randy Road's recommendation, you know he trusted me, that I was, you know he trusted me me with the trust factor that I had built with Azie and Sharon because it still is, it's a very tight circle to enter, you know, with them and I went from sleeping on the floor the day of the audition, I was sleeping in Kevin Debro Valley. plenty of, you know, free space in an apartment to live with them in Sharon.

I moved there. They just showed me a bungalow they had on their property from Sharon's family and they said okay, you can live there and it was amazing, you know, going from zero to being part of that wonderful, close-knit family. Yeah, what advice would you give to younger musicians who now have that moment where everything changes overnight? Their whole life changes when they get that big opportunity. What advice would you give him? in my case it was about always remembering where everything comes from, you know, for me it was a blessing, you know, it was really, it was a lot of fun because you know we were going on stage and and the image of oie was built around this character that You know like an evil or satanic character or whatever you know and the fact is that they were the nicest people I've ever met in my entire life, you know, and for me it's I, I found that he was more of an ex-religious for religious, I mean, it's right before I join the band on my Lois.

More Interesting Facts About,

rudy sarzo tells host laura beth hill why he left ozzy osbourne...

I made my peace with God and if I didn't make it, it was okay, but as long as my fingers kept moving, I was going to keep playing, so a few days later I got a call, you know, for an audition, so I logged on that moment of, you know, making peace with the reason why I was on that bus on that tour with Azie. I know and of course, Randy Rose, Tommy and Sharon, etc., for me I was always grateful for the opportunity, you know, but I also realized that it was part of someone else's journey.

I was following the path and hoping that one day, somehow, I didn't know how, but I will also embark on my own journey, you know what I mean, build my own band, but I have to tell you that the only reason why I

left

Aussie because Randy Roads tragically passed away on tour and we all lost the joy of playing, you know, we just kept touring to keep Azie busy, stop him from coming home and literally drinking himself to death, and every night it was us, it was like if we were achieving The Impossible, which is how to go there and entertain people because, like Liberty said, you know the audience, they're the ones who shouldn't know how hard it is to do what we do, even though it's so fun to make music, it's behind the scenes.

Things like continuing the tour without Randy Road was practically impossible, but we did it every night, you know, so after I completed my commitments with Azie, you know, for that tour I went from the bigger man. in the world to absolute zero unknown with the Riot choir, you know, I mean, nobody wanted the band, you know, we had, mental health, finished, already mastered, getting ready to be released and we couldn't even find a manager, you know? manage the band, so for me, the most important thing at that time was to find the joy of making music again and for me that is priceless.
