The Future of HEMA : Are YOU ready!?

Apr 10, 2024
Alright, we're back from a little hiatus, so we'll start with a light and fluffy topic just to get back to our topic today, the

future

of Hema Alpha. Hello and welcome to a new episode of the Heme program, I like the previous one. I'm your host Stuart and this is edited by Andy same as always hi Andy say hi guys good job yeah we're back from a little walk let's add a little free time a little time on my part. A little time at the end of Addy during the recording Andy is buying a new house so congratulations Andy I hope it keeps going better than it has been at least anyway but yeah we're back so we apologize for being away for a few weeks but we're back with a vengeance hello I'm back so I hope it's been going well I hope you've been working really well so today's topic is, as I say, a little fluffy for the first topic, but what do I do?
the future of hema are you ready
I think the

future

of humor is, yes, a big topic. Buckle up, Christ, this isn't going to be controversial, is it? Honestly, I've been thinking about this after having a few weeks off and seeing the competitive circuit and where we are. I've been going through things like this and I honestly believe that humor or the future of humor is not sports. I know, I know, I know, I know. Litigation, shoot me now, blah blah blah blah, betrayal, but honestly it is. I really think the way humor is going to grow and improve is by progressing and pursuing the sporting element.

More Interesting Facts About,

the future of hema are you ready...

I'm seeing fantastic things on the competitive circuit. I'm seeing genuinely innovative fighters. I see people's interest and progression. I'm seeing fights that are good and engaging and it's growing if you go back five ten years it was nothing like this this is a clear path of the way humor is going I know some people aren't going to like it, others like to keep the humor the historical side or whatever they just need to be historical, but whatever they perceive as the way it has been, people want to keep it the way it is, but honestly, when I say Hema's future, it's a kind of cargo.
the future of hema are you ready
The question is it's not really useful as a term to be honest it's how is Hema going to progress honestly yes sports competition but why if she doesn't progress and this is my main concern I really complain to people who say no. I don't want him to change or the mood to change or anything like that, it's okay, that's your opinion, you're entitled to it. Whatever, for the most part, I don't care, everyone can have their opinion, obviously, um, and yeah, I barely care. my opinions let alone yours, so why is it important to look at it and hope that it progresses and not just stays the way it is because things don't move, they stagnate and die?
the future of hema are you ready
It's just that even the most die-hard fans of The Way Things Are will eventually get bored if there's no innovation, if things stay the same and Hema's future is that she needs to innovate, that's why I've seen so many good coaches do things. interesting incorporating different things looking at good fighters. interesting things in competitions, I mean, even talking to my coaches, they are just thinking outside the box all the time, so I have to progress, it has to move forward, it has to be interesting and sport is really giving us that opportunity which is it working what are the current problems what is dominating the competitive circuit how can we break that you know all these questions and answers and answers back and forth is I'm going to continue to grow you know, one season from the next to the next is It's not going to be the same, it will change every season, different things will be functional, more people will do what's in Vogue or useful, or you know the operational movement, whatever, then people will respond and people will do that.
This will no longer be useful, it will continue to force people to update training in new ways, force trainers to think in new ways and teach in new ways and honestly, that's where it is at. I think if Hema stays still right now, that's possibly the worst. What I really believe is that Hema is at a turning point right now where if he just stands still he will die, while if we keep pushing him at this crucial moment he will grow enormously and become bigger and better. Just because I'm saying, in my opinion, that the future of humor is in sports, doesn't mean that there's nothing to offer to people who are just in it for the story or just for fun, there isn't. it means that at all it just means that the sport is going to progress it means that Hema has something as an entity that is going to progress the more it progresses the more people will get involved in general, you won't find one hundred percent of people coming into something we are going to be competitive of high level just because that's how it could be, it's the way I hope it is, but just because that's how it could be, doesn't mean you have to do that you know if you like the story if you're interested in having fun if you like it just for the sake of it hitting your friends with an evening is fine, everything is fine, no one cares, I mean, it is really important that everyone does the humor the way they want, but only because it may be progressing from a sporting point of view and Taking yourself a little more seriously from a support standpoint doesn't mean you have to. it just means it will be more successful and there will be more success the more people come to your local club, not all of them will be tall and competitive, some will be, but some will actually be there for shit. and they laugh, some will simply be there for the story and then, in fact, if the human being is more sporty in his future, he will discover by nature that there will be more people interested for the same reason as you and everyone wins. and I've really been thinking a lot about this and I think this whole pseudo division between sports humor and history is really self-defeating in itself.
The division is done, the division is stupid. I want to put people's heads together and just hit them. together and say: can't you see we're all on the same damn page? Here what we want is for Hema to be bigger, it should be bigger, taken more seriously, uh, get more people in, more people in, there are more people doing it. however you want to do it, you know, I really can't emphasize it enough just because getting big from a sporting standpoint or from a success standpoint, doesn't mean it's that, it's a sport, you know, just getting bigger. by nature and the added benefits of that, plus the insurance companies add up, we'll actually have decent damn insurance for a change.
I mean, my insurance is ridiculous, uh, because essentially I had to have a tailor-made insurance policy for my club, it's crazy, but more kit suppliers will come, the more serious you get, the more money there will be in it, the more kit suppliers, more kit suppliers will lower our prices because you know there will be competition, so it's great for us there. There will be more sword suppliers if the mood gets bigger and bigger and grows and grows and grows, the categories of swords might expand, you might find that interesting swords will suddenly appear on the competitive market and then there will be a offer to address the Source.
I keep hitting. I'm talking about kopesh because I love damn kopash, but finding a decent steel copesh that doesn't cost more than your first car is pretty difficult, so you know if the mood explodes and people get into it, there will be more demand, so which, hopefully, the offer should do. I find that if Putin can keep his fingers out of Ukraine for five minutes, yes, honestly, yes, the future of humorous sport, but don't panic because that's not all humor, it's just the pace at which it's progressing and always there will be a home for the people. who want to do it historically people who want to do it to get fit and people who want to do it just for a bit of fun and no one is a writer or wrong to use amazing grammar that no one, it's just the way it goes, knows. we can work with it, it's absolutely fine and, to use an example, fencing.
I have worked in fencing as a professional trainer for most of my adult life. Most of my career I have been a fencing coach. I have worked many times. fencing clubs one two three four five five fencing clubs and 10 of the members are competitive out of those 10 maybe five percent of them were high level competitive they took it seriously you know you have between 90 and 95 people that go to sports fencing clubs fencing fencing that are only there for Fitness Fun Shenanigans dating a mate New Year's Resolutions and in one case chasing a girl and you know all these various reasons for doing it, but fencing at its core is a sport, It is an Olympic sport.
It's a sport, no ifs and buts, but just because it's a competitive sport doesn't mean everyone is there with their head down, focused and boom, this is the most efficient way to do it, therefore we should do it this way, no. . It's a lot of fun, yes it takes it a little seriously at times, but it's a lot of fun, there are so many things to do and just because something is a sport doesn't mean it's different and I think the fear that some people have that humor becoming a sport is really unfounded or certainly not melodramatic, but I have al

ready

said it, I am melodramatic, eh, because it will never be the beginning and the end of everything, because people are people and people want to do it their own way. way, but just because it's going to grow doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing and I think really all of us as human practitioners need to be on the same page and say, yeah, we're going to screw this up. horn, let's get in, let's get involved, let's make it massive because there are more people in every walk of life and this is something that I've been really noticing about it and I think right now Hema is on the edge of the precipice, uh, you.
I know it's leaning in one direction, it's going to be huge and it's going to be really exciting, really fun, it's going to be huge and people are going to start noticing it and they're going to sit up and watch and pay attention, uh, or if we let off the gas, I just almost made it and then I started. to roll backwards downhill and that only goes in one direction. I've seen so many things like that. Hobbies or niche interests are artificially limited because they don't want to go in a future direction and they stagnate and things stagnate and when things stagnate they don't end up being pretty, people get bored and people move away and do different things. , so those are just my personal musings on Hina's future, honestly, despite my misanthropic streak, I'm actually quite optimistic. person I'm calling out, the future is Rosie, so I don't see why the future of humor shouldn't be Rosie.
I think it's a really interesting time to be part of here, but as a leader of the club I'm finding it. There are people who come to me who have no interest in history, nor in sports competitions, nor in particular in swords, nor previous paths that would have directed them towards Hina, but I receive emails from people who go just because they see that Your Club looks great, can I have it? try it and that's really the true test of the popularity of something, there is someone who has no prejudices, you don't have to look for it, people are just stumbling upon it and going, that looks great, the real test is something that is starting to succeed and we're understanding that now so we shouldn't artificially trample on that break let's all get on this party bus and have fun and that's what I think we should really be doing as a community and overall we're really doing it and Everything the world is really working for Hema's future and her future success.
I think if you're worried about the sportsmanship of the humor, for someone who is a big proponent of sportsmanship, don't worry, it's really nothing to worry about. It will be a historical base It will always be a historical base um it just means that the more sporting it is, the more people will be involved, the more people will be interested in the history. I really think that, honestly, it's not me trying to pacify anyone. No one has really bothered me about this recently. I've just been thinking about how we don't really have to worry about that and, in the same way, if it somehow becomes massive because it's an academic historical pursuit, because academia is huge, um, athletes.
I don't have to worry either because I always want to be people, there will always be people who want to try hard and improve anyway, so those are my thoughts on the foreign question, so today's question comes from someone, Andy, if you want. post the question, the asker, you can do it, feel free, today's question is how to fight the same people over and over again without getting discouraged or something like that. I remembered it correctly because apparently professionalism is interesting because it leads to a sportsmanship of people or at least a competitive fight. How can you find the same person over and over again without losing yourself or your motivation?
I'm making some assumptions that this is a competitive or someone in the club that you just can't beat and you're basically going hard mode and you're really struggling tobeat them and I would say that's your first mistake, you shouldn't try to beat these people who are unbeatable in the long run. Yes, but that's not where your head needs to be. Use these people as a litmus test when you fight this person, do you get any points or are they whitewashing you? So your first goal is, actually, I'm going to take a point off this, not that, and then once you can reliably take a point.
Point them out, maybe try to get two or three or see if you can get the first helicopter to land outside. What's going on? Honestly, I guess this isn't Putin invading Christ. I've said Putin twice now, there's no way this is being monetized to 200 of my viewers, ridiculous Andy, feel free to play some elevator music over this or something, this is crazy. I mean, if the mic hasn't been picked up, then I've looked like an absolute nutcase for the last few seconds, um anyway. Back to where I was points, yeah, make sure you get a point.
If you ask, you know, will I get one or two points from this person? Then see if you can be the first to get the points, see if you can take them. the initiative of the fight, if that's happening, then maybe think about are you really getting quality punches from this person, not just flailing around and like ah, I got a brilliant punch, great, see me, uh, you know, are you receiving quality hits? Are you doing what you're doing? I'm actually supposed to be doing I'm doing Rapier right now, so are you taking a bite and hitting well on the ties?
Are you failing at tying? Second intention and another line something like that, um, so you know if you're reliably scoring points and you're taking the initiative most of the time or you're able to take the initiative when you need to start thinking about specific moves. Are you making those moves work or are you stumbling through those moves first? It's not something I recommend but yes it's very realistic what I'm beating around the bush here it's about micro goals, if there is someone who is on hard mode then don't think about beating him, that's too macro, too big picture and that way Madness lies, think about the micro goals, really think about these small steps. that makes you stronger and then eventually if you take care of these small steps, the victory will achieve itself and also that's how you stay motivated when you talk about someone like that and this is something that I have done in real life in the past. competitive circuit uh 2000 and Christ eight nine I mean maybe ten knows anyway um there was a guy named uh I'll just call him Max so I don't want to say his last name uh too publicly and he's a pretty nice guy, no I don't think He knew I existed.
It was right at the beginning when he was competing. And he just couldn't. He couldn't beat him. Simply put, he was always in the loop. He was doing all the competitions up close. every time he looked at the record sheet he said: "Oh damn, Max is going to get there, they're brilliant, I got knocked out in the first round, these, you know, and I saw it in my pools if it was like that." in my post like I was going to have a trash pool and he was just one of these people he just couldn't be he was a good fencer uh he wasn't perfect he just had my number I just literally fought me.
I've been here, I've done this to a high degree in fencing, so I know exactly what this is like and this is how I approached it, use these micro goals and work your way up to it and eventually victory will take care of itself. but don't chase a victory because you will force yourself to fail anyway hope it helps you until next time hopefully foreigner hello hello how did you use to say hello in these hello? I feel like an episode of I.T. jesus christ crowd
