All Bosses EXPLAINED in Zelda: Majora's Mask

Mar 07, 2024
a Zelda game without

bosses

is like an empty box of chocolates, you never know what you will get because there is nothing there to continue my series explaining each boss and each Zelda game in this video we will focus on the

bosses

and mini bosses of the game more dark of the Zelda franchise, Majora's Mask, but I have a pretty important disclaimer to clarify before I start looking at the nature of Majora's Mask is, to say the least, questionable and by that I mean the notion of whether everything the game or not. The land of Termina and its subsequent inhabitants being real is perhaps one of the most debated things in the entire Zelda fandom.
all bosses explained in zelda majora s mask
Because of this, I will completely weaken myself and refrain from proposing my own theory about Termina in this video for several reasons. which would take too much time and instead I'm going to use the official explanation located in the Hyrule Encyclopedia, which is that the terminal itself was created complete with its own moon when Skull Kid put on Majora's Mask. from the corrupted skull children in Twisted Memories of Hyrule now I know that elite theorists and loremasters who hear this automatically cringe and roll their eyes and it may be arguable, but just hold your horses, it will all make sense because I will explain it. which I believe happened in addition to what the encyclopedia tells us and also there are several very good reasons to believe that the books are Canon.

More Interesting Facts About,

all bosses explained in zelda majora s mask...

For more information on that, check out this fantastic video on that exact topic from my good friend Monster Maze and thinking about ends. This explains many of the extremely strange events, tools, people and bosses that appear in Majora's Mask from Ocarina of Time, but enough is enough anyway, the last thing I will say is a spoiler alert, obviously the bosses in Majora's Mask They can pretty much all be grouped into one of three general categories: bosses that were corrupted by the power of the four giant

mask

s, bosses that are the four giant

mask

s, and of course, the big bad Majora, so let's start with the first category of bosses that have their own motives or we were corrupted and moved up the ladder, the first bosses you encounter in the game, besides Skull Kid, cut to Majora's Mask, which is not really a boss fight, they would be the two mini bosses From the Woodfall temple, the first of which is a dinosaur enemy, this is simply a monster that appears several times in the game and throughout the franchise, which is actually more of a powerful monster species than a notable boss, so that really the explanation is the same as it would be for Liz. alfos or an air, all enemies or even a bakoblin, serves the forces of darkness and somehow found or created his own weapon and armor and wants nothing more than to put Link to sleep permanently, next Minnie Mouse from the Woodfall Temple is another recurring enemy in the game, the gecko with two Ks, however unlike the dinofos, the gecko is normally not a bloodthirsty monster, it is actually a corrupted frog that otherwise , is harmless and a little cute when, under the effects of corruption, the frog mutates. a more lizard-like form that walks on two legs and you know, tries to kill Link and both geckos in the game, this one and the one that appears later in the Great Bay Temple, show signs of intelligence in the sense of that the former runs away from Link and attacks mainly by riding on a killer turtle monster called a snapper and the latter encases himself in crazy jelly which acts as a shield and a method of attacking Link.

In any case, when defeated, the Gekko doesn't die, but simply reverts back to its original little frog body so you don't have to feel too bad about it as to what dark power is responsible for corrupting them, although why wouldn't it be? other than Majora or more specifically the corresponding giant mask, but More on that later, the next natural boss we will encounter would be the wizard, who again is a repeating mini-boss that appears in Snowhead's temple and then again in Snowhead's castle. Ikana, the Stone Tower Temple, and the Secret Sanctuary, most fans probably know that the genie robes are not new enemies to the franchise by any means, actually with their first appearance stemming from the first game and extending to be included in 12 of the games total in each appearance.
all bosses explained in zelda majora s mask
Wiz's robes are always an intelligent species of humanoid creatures that are very proficient in Magic but the funny thing about them is that they tend to change their appearance quite a bit from being more human in the original games to being birds or maybe even the Rite in the Wind Waker to be whatever it is in a breath of nature. It's a bit like Groove from Despicable Me, let's steal them all, regardless of the fact that the magical robes in Majora's Mask are definitely more human and of course designed to make Link's life as difficult as possible.
They teleport around their rooms and launch magical attacks. towards link and when defeated they burst into flames leaving no corpse behind as to their origin, although it is not as clear as any of Wiz's other robes in the franchise, they appear to be from a race of humanoid creatures that learned magic and decided They serve the forces of darkness which in this case would be Majora and his lackeys. I personally don't think they are completely human, although due to their rather large stature and moving elf-like appearance, the next bosses are the Gerudo pirates from the pirate fortress who are actually just Gerudo women and this is one of those bosses in Majora's Mask which can only be

explained

through the Hyrule Encyclopedia's interpretation of Termina, which again means that Termina was created from the Skull Kid's twisted memories of Hyrule, clearly the Skull Kid had heard of the Gerudo women. from the desert or had I seen them before and personally I'm leaning towards the ladder because Iron Knuckles and even the witch sisters Koame and Kotake, who come straight from the deserts of Ocarina of Time, are also one. present in Majora's Mask, but they all operate and act completely differently with no ties to their original story.
In this game, the Gerudo are not desert dwellers, but rather fearsome pirates, and without getting too deep into the narrative, they come across link when link. is tasked with saving the eggs of Lulu, who is the lead singer of the super sick Zora rock group called The Indiegogos, the Gerudo Pirates, under the leadership of one particular pirate named Avail, stole Lulu's seven baby eggs because Skull Kid told them that they were the key to entering the Temple of the Great Bay that they wanted to enter in search of enriching themselves with the treasure inside Pirates, am I right?
That's where Garuda's sword-wielding women as mini-bosses come in and fight three of them in the game. Each of which are guarding one of Lulu's eggs, the next is one of the two mini bosses in the Great Bay Temple. A giant eyeball monster known as a wart also appears in the Secret Shrine, but there is reason to believe that all the bosses in the Secret Shrine are actually duplicate bosses. from the land of Termina, which would mean that there is actually only one wart on the ancient great encyclopedia of Hyrule which used to be an actual online resource hosted on the official

zelda

.com site but has since been removed for unknown reasons.
I have been a guardian of the Great Bay Temple at some point, it is unknown why Wart is no longer considered a guardian of the Great Bay Temple, but since it is a theme of the game, as well as most Zelda games , I'll chalk it up to the corruption of the corresponding giant mask from the Great Bay Temple, next up is how fun the ikana bosses are and by fun I mean scary and depressing to start with, the entire ikana land is that of a forgotten and barren wasteland that was once the Mighty Kingdom of Ikana and became the site of countless wars, battles, bloodshed and general unrest.
It is also currently experiencing a very particular plague that involves countless dead soldiers and foreign assassins coming back to life. On the plus side, this explains a large portion of his bosses being easier since said large portion of the bosses in Icono Valley are the aforementioned undead. According to the undead king of ikana called egos dewikana, the undead are all evil and evil and restless because someone burst open the doors of the Stone Tower Temple from where a dark wind came out. Having said all that, the first boss you face Icona is the undead giant who served in Ikana's army as its captain, known as Captain Kita or Skull Kida, who upon resurrection immediately challenges you to a race because he has Need for Speed, the captain.
He was actually defeated in battle, which brought him shame that accompanied him until death and is also the reason why he is dead. However, upon being defeated by Link, he passes his captain's hat to Link and asks him to tell him his last words that the war is over. to his men who still remain as children in the Mortal realm serving their Captain even in death and after telling this to Link, he asks his captain if he can say goodbye and finally takes it by following the Path of the Undead until he reaches At Ikana's Ruined Castle Link will encounter the King's lackeys, two unnamed stalfo, Skelly Bros, and the King himself in the throne room by defeating them all and healing their Undead bodies by burning them with egos of light.
Icona explains that Ikana's kingdom has now fallen due to small battles over ultimately meaningless conflicts, the kind of which were just beginning to develop when her lackeys began arguing moments before burning into nothingness. He also explains that the dead began to be resurrected due to the dark spell that originated from the Stone. Tower Temple and after teaching Link the elegy of the void he summons a heartless soldier and is also the reason why the Creepypasta Ben Drowned still haunts fans to this day. He burns himself asking Link to shine the light of Justice upon his kingdom with his dying breath, this comment from the light of Justice also seems to imply that even before the undead plague was a Scourge upon Icona, the injustices had already fatally infected her heart, now there are a few other mini bosses present in ikana, but they are legitimately difficult to explain. because technically speaking they shouldn't exist here, like the Iron Knuckles and the great Poe and the Poe Sisters, they pose as lingering spirits of the dead and are a staple of the Zelda franchise and in a blood-soaked land filled with countless The Spirit's lingering bodies seem to be a given, but it is the Iron Knuckles and Poe's sisters specifically that must have come from the skull boy's memories, especially the latter, who are a group of four sisters who once resided within of the Forest Temple from Ocarina of Time, that the Skull Kid lived right outside, especially since in the child timeline, which is when this game takes place, Link would never have become an adult and killed the poe sisters. in the adult timeline, so logically they should still be located within his Forest Temple and the same goes for the iron knuckles in the spiritual temple, however, because we are starting from the assumption that ends is a twisted version of Hyrule that is somewhat parallel to it, let's continue with that explanation for the Poe sisters and the iron knuckles and Even sharp and flat present in Icona Valley, the last two bosses of this first category are the mini bosses of the Temple of the Stone Tower, the first of which is the cat Master, the strongest and master of Garo, who are present throughout the land of Ikana.
The Garo are also Undead like most of the other monsters in icana and are actually spies who come from a country that was at war with ikana when he was alive, according to Pamela's father who is a super intelligent scientist. Professor Garo may even be a Hollow. under their robes and one of the reasons to believe this is that it is Garo law to destroy their own bodies upon death without leaving any corpse behind something they still do even after their death, the fact that Master Garam is here inside the temple and the fact that Master Garam knows the secret of turning over the temple is strange, very strange and in fact leads me to believe that Master Garam may have originated in the temple.
Ver egos do ikana says quite clearly that it is an impenetrable fortress that hundreds of his soldiers could not take it down, this implies that it is not his fortress, it is not a creation of the kingdom of ikana and since it requires a few jumps to infiltrate, something in that the Garo ninjas are very competent, perhaps the Stone Tower was actually the home of the Garo, but that is just a small mini theory to explain Master Garo, the next and last non-main boss of the game would be none other than the one, the only, creepy Gomez, now this scythe-wielding boss hovers above the ground, is covered in bats and has a pretty crazed-looking expression on his face and, of course, is one of the most inexplicable beings in the history of the Zelda franchise, so that's awesome.
TheThe aforementioned Zelda.com encyclopedia, which is no longer visible online, once said that Gomez was a powerful vampire, which somewhat explains all the bats, although it is debatable whether or not the former Zelda website's official definition Is it Canon or not, although I think Gomez is most likely a creation of whoever cursed the land of Icana by opening the doors of the Stone Tower Temple and here's why it is Because thematically everything about Gomez is dark, Gomez It is surrounded by bats that are nocturnal predators. Gomez himself is so dark that you can barely see details of his body other than his eyes and his open, smiling mouth.
He also wields a giant reaper-like scythe which is to represent death and also goes hand in hand with darkness and is the antithesis of light and life and since the iconic realm is said to be shrouded in darkness that comes from From the Temple of the Stone Tower, it could be that Gómez himself is the incarnation of said darkness, in other words, Gómez is the curse that was placed on Ikana, the one that is making the dead come back to life, but who did damn you ask, we'll get to that in a small but cool detail.
The cover story on Gomez is that his French name is Grim Reaper and it's also the French name for Twilight Princess' sword of death, both bosses who wield giant bladed weapons and look like Grim Reaper, perhaps what they have in common. is that they are both Bringers of Death or rather Bringers of Undeath with all of the game's first category mini bosses out of the way, it's time to start focusing on the main bosses of the game, specifically the four giant masks that Majora created to capture. The four giants of Termina, who are the four guardian deities of the land of Termina, which was once a land with only one country and without divisions or borders.
Let's start by briefly covering the history of the giants in case anyone doesn't know or need it. To review, the Giants were not only the Protectors of Termina, but they were also the Skull Boy's Personal Friends, maybe even his only friends eventually, although the Giants decided they wanted to sleep, I guess, and in doing so walked a hundred steps north. , southeast and west. thus dividing the earth into four quadrants and leaving the skull boy behind, this broke the skull boy's heart and he reportedly began to unleash his anger on the people of Termina and this was apparently long before the events of most , his mask finally the people screamed. to the Giants to come save them from this mischief and then they told the skull boy to leave where they will literally tear him apart, yes this broke the skull boy's heart even more and then he returned to the heavens where we can only guess . then she met the two fairies in the Lost Forest and finally she ran into the happy mask seller and then they bonded and then the rest is history.
Now remember when I said at the beginning of this video that we are going to explain the creation of the encyclopedia. de termina, well, we still are, but I also wanted to say that this story between the Giants and Skull Kid apparently proves that terminum must have existed before Skull Kid showed up. Ventura's mask means that ends couldn't have been created by the mask, well, yeah. and no, I believe that it already existed and that it is a different world that exists somewhere deep beneath the land of Hyrule and is accessible through a portal located inside an old tree in the Lost Woods and no, I am not going to Expanding on that because it ends is not the goal of this video.
I also believe that Skull Kid found this world one day and started coming and going out of curiosity and eventually befriended the four giants before being banished from there, however, Skull Kid returns to the end. after obtaining Majora's Mask only this time his mind has started to alter quite a bit due to the corruption of Majora's power, either this or Majora actually created it ends when Skull Kid put on the mask, it's just that the skull was able to put on the mask some time ago. which I guess is possible but unlikely since the happy mask salesman appears here in the childhood timeline anyway, at some point he gets an idea and that idea is Revenge of the Giants on Earth Itself of ends.
Now I'll get into the entirety of The Revenge Plan is found more in the final section covering Majora, but as far as the Giants go, basically the four giant masks were created by Skull Kid and Majora to trap the Giants inside. them transforming their physical bodies into Skull Kid monsters. Design One became Odawa, the giant masked warrior of the jungle. One became the giant mechanical goat monster, another became gayorg, the giant fish monster, and the last became twin mold, the giant masked insects. The monsters, in my opinion, were none other than the Giants themselves who faced them.
It is formed during their imprisonment as Skyward Sword's Imprisoner, which is the transformation of Death into a giant avocado with soft fingers, although it is unknown what caused them to transform into what they specifically did, as the four giant masks eventually returned to the side. Majora's, although I can. It is only assumed that the masks and subsequent monsters were designed and created by Majora herself. Once trapped within the masks, the Giants became the scourges of the lands they swore to protect, each cursing their respective terminal quadrants, the southern giant becoming Odawa of the Temple of Woodfall. and cursed the swamp to become toxic, the northern giant became god of the snow-headed temple and cursed the normally warm and balmy Mountain into a fierce and endless snowstorm, the western giant became gaorg of the Temple of the Great Bay and plagued the waters with an uneasy turbidity and caused the climate.
It became even hotter and the eastern giant became the twin mold of the Stone Tower Temple and covered the land with darkness and undead. His corruption of the lands also led to the creation of various monsters and bosses that we have already discussed, such as geckos or egos. ikana, but at the end of it all, after the link froze all the Evil Masked Shackle Giants of her, they were left with a burning question: why did Majora specifically curse these giants into these specific monsters? It's finally time to talk about those who started it all Majora. and the skull boy and here's another fair warning, fasten your seatbelts because this is about to get crazy.
Most fans know by heart the story of Skull Boy, a mischievous childish imp from the woods who put on an evil mask and acted out and probably had the world's worst tantrum. The world has ever seen But the character that really excites people is Majora. Where did he come from? Is he or was he a person at some point? and why is he now sealed inside a mask? Let's start with what we know according to To the Happy Mask Seller, Majora's Mask was created by an ancient tribe who used the mask for hexing rituals, which is another word for cursing or bewitching, so you know this ancient tribe definitely doesn't. was one of the good ones, however, that ancient tribe that used the mask to curse others decided themselves that the mask was too powerful and could lead to too much catastrophe, so this bewitching tribe The Mask hides in the shadows.
Interestingly, in the original Japanese version of the game, the happy mask seller says that the original tribe was destroyed and that in fact there was a Calamity caused by the mujuda mask and that quote that our ancestors sealed it, our ancestors as in the ancestors Link and him, who would be the Hylians themselves, don't necessarily prove much, but it's interesting to think about an unknown amount of time passes and finally the happy mask seller puts his own hands on the mask, although we don't know how, when. or even why he knew about the mask in the first place, regardless of Skull Kid eventually stealing the mask and Indicate the events of the game, Skull Kid then begins to undergo an evolution from harmless prankster to more serious prankster to later make serious advances. in his revenge plan and decides to trap his old friends inside the giant masks, curse the earth with numerous ailments and finally bring the moon crashing onto the face of the Earth to destroy the world in defiance of the festival that celebrates the Sun and the Moon. .
Things so far are pretty easy to understand. The boy puts on Misa and is corrupted with a mask until the dark encounter. With Skull Kid atop the Clock Tower, he sees once Skull Kid's plot is stopped by the Giants literally holding the moon in place. Majora's mask comes off the Skull Kid and shows for the first time that he is sentient and this is where things get. super interesting, he then proceeds to call Skull Kid a puppet and enters the moon, giving him even more power and continues his descent to destroy the world, but wait, you might be thinking I thought that was Skull's revenge plan Kid, why Majora, who can?
They have been created by ancient Hylians who want to destroy Termina, what does Termina have to do with Majora's Mask? The only thing that unites Majora's Mask with Termina and the Giants is the Skull Kid himself, so here's my theory and of course you can believe anything. one you might like now I have two theories, one of which is the literal theory of what is happening here within the lore of the universe and the other is the theory of the symbolism behind all of this and how it makes sense in a meta. scale, but let's start with the story theory, when Link enters the moon personally, I feel that he and enters Majora's mind, I mean a boundless field of grass with a tree inside the Moon, it's probably metaphysical, You know, there are probably kids running around too. around wearing the four giant masks and one sitting alone wearing Majora's Mask, but the reason why Majora's mind feels so lonely and the child wearing Majora's Mask sits alone with no one to play with is because that It is a reflection of exactly what happened. for Skull Kid it is what was inside Skull Kid's heart and memories and because Skull Kid felt it, Majora now feels it, that is why the four giant masked children are free to play with each other while Skull Kid cuts to Majora, the child sits alone, it is perfect.
Image of the terminal story told from the skull boy's perspective, but this fictional reality also shares Majora's memories. That's why the kids look like the happy mask salesman and ask Link if he'll be a happy mask salesman too, as Majora remembers. the happy mask seller as the only individual in the last countless years who paid attention to him according to the old Miiverse website which has again since been deleted. The happy mask seller says that he has never met these children before and that he doesn't think they are normal children and that he is pretty sure that there is some product created by Majora's Mask, he even recognizes that they have the same hairstyle as him, so young but so elegant, but now we are left wondering everything in this field of grass. all of these kids' dialogue, their appearances, the masks, it all comes from the skull boy's memories or from Majora's mask itself, but well, I think it's because of the fact that Majora's mask is now alive, but let me explain to them, see Majora.
Mask when Warren gives you the use of the power to make your wishes come true, much like the Triforce in reality, but on the contrary, see that the Triforce will grant its user's wish but will break away if its user is unbalanced, meaning that The Triforce requires Majora's balance. The mask, on the other hand, creates an imbalance, corrupts, takes the deepest, darkest parts of your mind and brings them to the surface, and eventually causes those dark thoughts to worsen and take control completely, think of it as the Venom and Spider-Man symbiote, but if the Venom symbiote I also granted Spider-Man's wishes and now I give that symbiote to an angry, emotionally distraught human being who hasn't yet figured out how to control his emotions like a child or a skull boy, that in itself is a terrifying notion, but I think the true horror is actually even worse.
There's a reason why Majora's Mask wasn't initially alive but now is and why it was so terrifying to the ancient tribe once they discovered its true nature. In my opinion, Majora's Mask darkens the heart of the wearer because it feeds on it, grows from it, and eventually comes to life from it and forms a literal embodiment of the darkness in its wearer's heart, his darkest desires, his deepest wounds, his inescapable loneliness and the culmination of all his anger, and that is the heartbreaking, deep, dark horror of Majora's Mask is why Majora pushed the dark thoughts and feelings inside the skull boy to the surface is why why Majora continued entering the moon and chasing thesame dark intentions that the skull boy gave him is why the Moon Area was created by Majora is lonely and desolate and that is why Majora is wild, childish and full of anger like the skull boy and begins to form an organic body veiny based on these same emotions in front of our eyes and we know that this is all of Majora's darkness because after defeating him evil has officially escaped The Mask tested by the happy mask seller but another aspect of the final fight that I don't have to explain but I'll do it anyway because according to Hyrule Historia it's the canon version of events. would be the mask of fierce deities that unites Dawns to transform into the fierce deity and kill Majora's Mask once and for all the Japanese term for it is kishin which is used to refer to gods who have a righteous fury against the enemies of humanity and According to Aonuma himself, the mask of the fierce deity is supposed to be the culmination of all the memories of terminal people, their combined will, so to speak, it seems to me that just like Majora's Mask is the embodiment of the darkness of the skull boy's heart, the fierce deity is the Incarnation of humanity's righteous Fury is now allowed to bond from within Majora's Moon Area from the boy who represents Majora so that they can play the game. good and bad cop before fighting, which is strange but makes more sense when you look at the situation symbolically. and to explain the symbolism, let's start again with Majora's Mask.
The ancient heart-shaped deadly hex mask is an image of what happens if the dark and harmful will towards others within our hearts is left unchecked, specifically with a focus on how angry and wrathful we can be. being in our childhood when our emotions have not yet matured and the masks that the bond gives to the Moon, the children who run without wanting more than to play represent the different pieces of our childhood, our imagination, the games we would play and when we give the end. piece of your immaturity you receive a grimmer and in return, a serious maturity of adulthood that has the power to destroy even the darkest intentions or wounds of childhood because, after all, isn't the skull boy's anger justified?
Wasn't he hurt by the Giants, his closest friends? The problem is that it went too far and I wasn't mature enough to deal with it, so Just Put Majora's Mask on Me, among many things, is an allegory of growing up and overcoming and defeating the traumas of our childhood, the darkness that so we often bring with us, but that's just what I think about it. Speaking of my thoughts, this turned out to be the longest and most thoughtful boss story video yet or at least that's how it felt when I was researching it.
