No Man's Sky ORBITAL is Life Changing | Deep Space Travel Break #29

May 06, 2024
Hello friends, welcome to Deep Space Travel Pause, the most popular No Man's Sky podcast on YouTube, since there isn't as much competition with Bble Bum who is now putting his Studio 16 podcast on pause, maybe I can get him as a guest on this show at some point because I actually really enjoyed listening to your podcast, but it seems like you're stuck with me now, so today's episode is special. Now I know I'm saying this like every other episode, but listen, some crazy things have happened since episode 28. It covers No Man's Sky Orbital, the latest update that brings awesome new

space

stations and construction in the same update.

I mean, can you believe it? I'd like to talk about the most notable new features and speculate a little about where they are located. It could take those features in the future. I should also cover the delays that Xbox and Switch had to deal with, and in case you missed the news, I actually had to design a very, very small part of the new stations that I still can't. I also think the channel reached 30,000 subscribers, which is incredible, so we have to celebrate that too anyway. I am Kaju and this is the journey to

Break episode 29 presented by Monolith Dark terrifyingly terrifyingly effective effective mysteriously attracted mysteriously awaken your darkness side monolith dark dark the new fragrance for gek thanks again to monolith dark available at stations controlled by the Trade Federation or wherever monolith products are sold so let's get to our main theme of the show no man's sky

orbital

oh man, where do we start right? obviously with the right space stations this is a standout update for me personally for several reasons, the first being the most substantial space station update since the upcoming 2018 update. I mean one reason why building two ships is perhaps the most substantial update to the Starship acquisition since I don't know, maybe ever why three guilds and reputation now have tangible benefits and reason four is very selfish.
no man s sky orbital is life changing deep space travel break 29
This is the first update I've contributed to, but I'll get back to it. Let's talk about space stations. I love the new space. stations I love almost everything about them I love the new exteriors, you know, they are so colossal and detailed that they are reminiscent of classic science fiction artwork and relate to images from the planetary archives, like the updated Freighters we have. Endurance and Pirate Dreadnots, right, all look more consistent now, so the exteriors look great and are much more varied than the old exteriors. I also love the new interiors, from the moment you enter the station you are bombarded with color from Last week I saw many unique color combinations, each of which gives your station a completely different atmosphere, even if nothing the more it will change between the seasons.
no man s sky orbital is life changing deep space travel break 29
I think the color alone would help make each station and in turn each system feel unique, thankfully. although there are many other procedural elements, the track has multiple layouts, the core has multiple layouts, the cartographer has multiple layouts, even the guilds eventually feature different layouts depending on location, the system's controlling race also features prominently in the generation of seasons, which is something I've been waiting for years, you know you have big emblems that make it clear which territory you are in in each of the three races, you have different types of decorations and when you combine all that with lighting, there are infinitely more variety than was previously possible, while the visuals and decorations are more varied than ever, the shops are as consistent as you'd expect, the cartographer has a couple of variants that I appreciate, and in theory the tool shops multiples and exotics do too, however those showcases are not currently functional, but if you look at the screenshots in the patch notes you can see how it's supposed to look anyway.
At first I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more variety between the stations, you know, they were all laid out exactly the same, we have the same stores. in the same places in each station as we did previously, however, thinking about it further I think this makes sense from a gameplay perspective, having the trade terminal and the teleporter being in the middle makes a lot of sense since the new stations are organized with a more intuitive use in mind. It can be annoying having to figure out where basic amenities are every time you visit a new station.
I'm sure the Explorer in me would love the variety, don't get me wrong, the immersion, but it's much more efficient and easier to use to maintain consistency. so in this case I'm okay with the game beating Variety, besides the new visuals, the space stations also have some new features. You can now find two multi-tool cabinets per station instead of one, which was pretty fun, which used to be a possibility in the past. like 1.0 because you used to be able to find multi-tool cabinets in the back rooms of stations that no longer exist, which is fine, let's get to that, technically they're in abandoned stations, but I There's a digression, so besides multi-tool cabinets, guilds now offer supplies that you wouldn't normally get at stations which is really cool, there are also more lootable containers not only on plants but also other types of lootable containers that give you credits. and stuff, I think you can get carbon credits, nanites and navigation data now, at least that's what I've seen, which is cool, most notable of course, the biggest new feature is the ability to craft your own spaceship, which I can't believe.
I'm saying this, but after more than seven years, Starship customization is finally a kind of Starship building, since you can't modify your existing Starships, but rather you can scrap them for parts and then use those parts to build a new one. Starship. own design you can change the colors and types of materials to create designs we have never seen in nature. It's a great system. Each class of Starship is different to build with the Explorers, allowing you to attach wings individually and get to know each one. The class has its own quirks at the moment, though the feature is limited to just three classes of Starship Fighters carriers and scouts.
I think there's a good chance we'll see more added later, but I'll get to that soon. I want to share my thoughts. about how ship building could affect ship hunting because for those in their underwear there is a whole community of players dedicated to searching for their perfect spaceships, as the ships in this game are procedurally generated, find your ship ideal is a matter of luck. strategy for it, but it's a lot of luck and some people worry that the ability to build your own ship makes hunting for ships more or less useless; There seems to be a very small contingent of people who think that because of the general consensus and me personally What I agree with is that boat building only makes boat hunting more popular because you can't just buy boat parts online.
Right now, you have to acquire a ship with the specific parts you want in the wild, so you still have to go from one system to another. Looking for your ideal ship, on top of that there are still millions of ships you can't build right now, plus player-built ships don't have the same certification as NPC ships, meaning they trade for less value and don't. serve as a replacement for classic ship hunting, it's a win-win as far as I can tell so far the update is two for two in my book, the new space stations are epic and the ship building is great before moving on to the speculation.
I want to briefly talk about some of the broader changes because with headliners as big as new space stations and ship construction, believe me, there were some things that were overlooked in the first place. I love that the faction position now has additional benefits, where you get great discounts. Upgrade vendors depend on your rank, and guilds also offer free and discounted exclusive supplies to ranked members. I can even donate supplies and trade them, which I don't need to do because I'm already at max rank, but I like to do it as a sort of roleplay, I'm sure I'll take this free module you're offering, but let me offer you something in return.
These Guild benefits are pretty awesome, honestly, it almost reminds me of a barter system, which is something I've always wanted. in the game, but no, it's really cool and makes me visit the guild representatives at every station I visit, which is something I haven't done in years and it's pretty much not been worth visiting since 2019. For me, that It's pretty important, it's nice to see some of the game's older environmental features getting some love and I think it helps everything feel more cohesive and interactive. The universe as a whole feels more functional, talking about more interactive, although we also have. the biggest update to forget about Expedition since its release in 2018 and the craziest part is that I still haven't been able to activate these new things.
Maybe it's because my fleets are overpowered, so they don't really need my help. Maybe I should try it. in another save game, but essentially from what I understand, fres can now contact you mid-mission and ask for help, they could ask you for advice in various situations or they could ask you to come in to help them in combat situations, sounds really cool. and I can't wait to try it for myself, it reminds me a lot of the procedural adventures I've been looking forward to for years and I'm so glad to see the frigs getting some love.
Additionally, it is the second update in the last year. to give us more environmental quests, although they are rare, I think that accumulating all these little possibilities for quests makes the game more amazing, especially for new players who haven't liked maxing everything out, but think it will make the game more much more interesting. We've seen improvements to multiple gameplay loops in orbit, continuing a two-plus year trend of updates that improve and

deep

en existing features rather than simply adding a bunch of new ones, although I suppose you could argue that shipbuilding It's a new feature that will probably improve. continues to expand and said ship building also adds depth and rewards to starship rescue, so it could be seen as an extension of that loop.
It improves faction rewards, makes guild quests more attractive, and you have another way to increase guild rank without having to do it. Take on missions, and of course, it's never been a better time to be a fleet commander now that you can take a more active role in the success of your expedition. As far as I'm concerned, it's all good, as there's always plenty of other great stuff. improvements, but I won't cover all of them in this video before moving on to a topic that you know I'm excited to cover. I feel like I have to acknowledge the delays that Xbox and Nintendo Switch players have had to deal with. with the update it was released on PlayStation and PC on Wednesday March 2 7th, however it didn't arrive on Xbox until the following Tuesday and as far as I know now I think Switch players are still waiting, let me know in the comments if they want it.
You are one of those Switch players. Have you already received the update? I know some people were pretty upset about the delay on the Xbox side, which makes sense. It's frustrating to see everyone enjoying the new content and trying to avoid spoilers. I remember there was an update. Last year that was delayed by at least a couple of days for PlayStation and being a content creator who plays on Playstation put me at a disadvantage, but it wasn't the end of the world. I'm a No Man's Sky. Super Fanboy, but I survived so that said I wasn't missing out on these beautiful new space stations so I was never tested the same way you all are, each platform has different standards for certifying game updates.
Switch generally takes longer than PC. at least since it really has no barriers so I'd give HG a

break

, we have no reason to believe they aren't doing everything they can to solve the problem. Personally I think so, but I still think that moments like these would be good opportunities for Hello Games to offer a little more transparency, especially on technical issues. It sure wouldn't make any difference. Most people probably wouldn't see the message and those who are really upset probably wouldn't find it satisfying. butsome people might appreciate it, speaking of guessing the next content, let's speculate a little about the upcoming features, which was a weak transition, but let's talk about the speculation you see as usual.
Hello, games have created these new features keeping in mind scalability or modularity in others. In words, these features can be developed later without needing to do another complete rework with previous seasons. It would have been very difficult to add anything to them with the new seasons. I think he is much more prepared for the future. For example, I am pretty. We're sure to see more features added to ship building, there are no guarantees of course, but in the

orbital

update trailer we saw footage of a shuttle being built, so it looks like work has already been done to make it possible in the game .
It seems like they were probably going to ship it with the shuttle, but maybe they ran into a bug or shuttle parts were already found for the manufacturer in the game files. Some people have been able to modify that ability again, so it makes sense. It tells me they will add that feature very soon in the future but we never know, besides the shuttles some people were already able to modify the ability to build solar ships and considering solar ships have such huge sales I don't think they would . They fit the current ship maker unless they were retracted, which might make it a little harder to see what it will look like finished, in fact.
I would prefer if solar ships couldn't be built on regular space stations. Instead, it would be cool if solar shipyards were exclusive to Pirate-controlled systems, since solar ships are more common in those systems and are commonly associated with Pirates and Outlaws. I think that would help solar ships feel more like creations from Outlaw and would allow Hello Games to build a maker platform that could comfortably fit a solar boat with the sails up or maybe the sails not up and I'll have like a I don't know like a sales hologram next to it, no I know, but I also have no idea how all of that would fit into the interiors of Outlaw Station, so maybe they'll become a new point. of interest, solar shipyards, or maybe I'm going too far, that's a lot of work, what do you think?
Would you like to see solar boats added? Do you think it would be a good idea to have them on the market? Regular Starship Fabricators or do you think it would make more sense to have them somewhere else, maybe it doesn't have to be exclusive to Outlaw systems, but maybe it's like a planetary point of interest, I don't know. Other ship types, like Sentinel interceptors and living ships, I think should probably remain unbuildable for both story and gameplay reasons. Exotics, on the other hand, are the only type I'm not sure about, for one thing, there isn't much variety, not in comparison. to the other Starship classes besides that, I like how unique and mysterious they feel and I think they could lose some of that mystery if you could build one anywhere.
All that said if they were the only type of ship where you could buy parts and they were extremely expensive, I mean, that might make sense, because then you would have to be very, very rich to build one. I don't know, I'm just making things up here, if anything it would be cool if there was a whole new class. of Starships perhaps similar in design to the star racer that could only be built by players, so you wouldn't see these ships anywhere in the wild, so to collect parts you would have to buy them from random stores. or perhaps receiving them as Nexus Mission rewards could be interesting, although there is a lot of work to implement.
I'm not sure if I really want them to put that much development time into another Starship class unless I would do something more unique now if they added Starship races, I think so. It would make a lot of sense to add, you know, a custom racing class, anyway, that's going too far into speculation on top of boat building. I also think that the new stations are built in such a way that they could easily be added in the future, so the previous stations. they were small, relatively small, so every time they added something new it often felt like the junk dealer was there, whereas in The Outlaw stations it has a whole like a junkyard and feels more integrated .
The new stations actually have a lot of space that could easily be converted into new store kiosks or other features. You see that these x walls are actually filling empty positions, so if you were to move, eliminate the X walls you would have. small areas with the same shape as the main stores, like these kind of niches that look like arches, these are the same things, they are just covered, in fact if you pass your camera through the wall you can see that there is geometry behind each wall X, considering the geometry of the room. how underutilized the third floor is.
I wouldn't be surprised if they have some plans for it down the road and there are even more small rooms on the first floor that they could still use at some point. Everything said, in reality it could be just a leftover vestige. space from a previous iteration of the stations perhaps they originally varied the station locations and then discovered through playtesting that players hated having to climb the stairs to interact and instead just decided to move everything closer to the center that would have makes sense to me, there's also a chance they'll never do anything right with it and it'll just be left in space after all, there's a giant door on the back of the space anomaly with some basic geometry behind it that hasn't been used since then. 2019, so I wouldn't hold my breath for anything new here that said I'd love to see more procedure shops located in these spaces, as well as inconsequential services that you don't necessarily need at every station, these could be like little food or drink. shops, since we have all these kitchen products, maybe one of them is a cooking station or it's an actual bar, since we have those neon signs that they gave us last year and there is already one for each race, so depending on you know which one, huh. system you're on, maybe it could generate one of those three, I don't know, right, uh, maybe they could send parts sellers with rare parts at a high price, so every once in a while you find a station that really will sell you parts. of a fighter or something you want but it will be very expensive or maybe there is an antiques dealer since we get them in space and you have the antiques kiosk vaults in the planetary archives, maybe something like that.
I mean you don't have to copy and paste the same thing, but I'm just saying there are some other things you could implement even as another weapons supplier, although they already have two multi-tools, maybe there are on a Viking. system, there is a higher chance of having a third weapons supplier, you know what I mean, you never know, they could be redundant, almost to imply that there is competition, maybe kek stations are more likely to have more suppliers, maybe maybe corvac stations, maybe replace them with things that are just decorative, like one of the alcoves, they may be open but they're full of servers or research or even like an aquarium or something.
I don't know, I'm spitting here. Would that be seen? coherent, would it improve space stations? I don't know, but it would be fun to explore them. I'll say it again, although I would like to reiterate that the new space stations, such as they are, are beautiful and beautiful, which brings me to my new favorite part of the new space stations - the ads you know why I'm still on the moon, which I keep saying because it's still true for those of you who somehow missed my giant ego over the last week. Congratulations if you let me tell you that I was granted a very, very rare opportunity to collaborate with Hello Games on the new space stations and when I say collaborate I mean contribute very, very little, don't get me wrong, I take no credit for your incredible work, the only thing I can do.
I'm taking credit for this little part here, the ads on the kiosk, not even the kiosk itself, just the images on the kiosk, you see. I am a graphic designer by profession and it has always been a very particular dream of mine to design ads in Universe for video games. I'm not kidding, I chose my entire university degree in graphic design with the idea that I wanted to create video game ads in Universe, in-game ads and I like video game marketing, and that all came from my love for ads in the Bioshock franchise. I used to be obsessed with that stuff, it's actually what got me into Bioshock in the first place and then it ended up becoming my game. favorite of all time, but the ads were what sold me, so I've been dreaming ever since.
Having my work appear in some Digital Universe and these space station ads is a real dream come true, it's like a wish is granted, so I just want to say a big thank you to Hello Games for giving me a shot and a big thank you to all the viewers who really made it possible, give my voice some weight, you know what I mean, made it possible for me to have these opportunities, so thank you and for those curious. I designed the advertisements that circulate through the standing kiosks and those displayed on the left side of the new commercial terminals.
The advertisements on the right side of the trading terminal and those mounted on the walls were designed by another talented Hello Games artist. So it's been fun to see people translate the messages and laugh at the fragrance for the Geek ad. It was honestly one of my favorites of the lot, so I'm really glad they selected it. I think it really contributes to the story of the game. uh the green gek posters actually feature art from the Traveler deck, the No Man's Sky playing cards. I was also lucky enough to have designed, uh, it's pretty fun, the atlas diamond with the units in the eye that you see on the pink sign, it's actually a symbol that I created for it or a combination of symbols that I created for the Traveler's deck is also on all the unreleased poker chips and some of the ephemera I've sent to Hello Games in the past.
I am honored to have the opportunity to share my work with such a talented team. I don't know if I can talk about any of the designs that didn't make it into the game. I don't think I can, but I will say that everyone they chose seems to have strong strength. Primary color that works well with a wide variety of station interior color schemes. They know what they are doing there. There are some designs that I would have loved to see in the game, but thinking about it now, they may not have worked with all the colors.
Generating combined procedures can be difficult, but who knows, they may one day find a use for one of those leftover designs and I hope they do. Fun fact: the glyphs you see on the side of this podcast are actually remnants of an unofficial procedural signage project. What I worked on after the Frontiers update was something I had hoped to release for Hello Games in the past, but I actually put it on the back burner specifically to start making YouTube videos, which is funny because it's now been shut down. the circle because the videos made it possible. for me to introduce those signage ideas to hello games.
I didn't see that coming anyway, that's enough about me, let's talk about all of you 30,000 of you, that's a lot of you, thank you so much for getting the channel to 30k subscribers I always say that maybe I make the videos but you make them successful and seriously, everything is thanks to your support, you have made a lot possible, thank you all and especially I want to thank my valuable Channel members thank each of you for your additional support April G DeAndre Louise shanky carbon robot suan 1999 Jonathan downan Mandrake Michael Hammond and arcade thank you very much for helping make my videos possible regarding channel memberships.
I would also like to make a couple of changes. First of all, I'm removing the most expensive levels and saving your money, so now it's just level 299 and that's it, with no additional levels. I'm also adding a couple new emojis for channel members to use a surprised face they may have seen. in the Roblox video and a second one I'm still working on, it's a little difficult to make a laughing face with one eye and no mouth, so we'll see what the second Emoji ends up being, but it will be available soon. the surprised face is already on YouTube, so if you didn't know about channel memberships, it's a way to support my efforts more directly while getting access to additional perks like members only live streams, video posts, and, of course, emojis, plus there are Nifty badges. that goes next to your name no pressure of course all my top video essays are free for everyone, but if you have an extra $299 a month burning a hole in your pocket, I wouldn't mind, so thanks again to my current members and before I close the podcast and while I'm on this non-stop chain of self-promotion, I also want to promote my Day of the inocents.
It's actually a documentary about my time on Roblox when BL was like when it first went public in 2006. It has some anecdotes about interesting and now very successful people I met back then. I talk about some of my successes and my eventual retirement from the game. However, I am also announcing my own retirement because I have an upcoming project that I am very excited to share. if you would like to see that, if you are interested in something, if you love personal stories, video game history or don't know what else to do with your time, hey, consider watching it, my wife said it was a very good video, so There you have it, brilliant recommendation and also my next video, it may or may not be that big 1 hour video I've been working on for the last 3 months, it's still in the works, or it could be another orbital.
We'll see the video, but I think that's enough for me. Thank you very much for watching and don't forget to leave a like on the video if you liked it, don't hesitate to subscribe if you love No Man's Sky or just video games. I generally like to talk about the things I love, so most of the positive videos on this channel I rarely do. I very rarely do any. I actually make negative videos. Don't know. Sometimes. Sometimes I say there was one I was

ing into on IGN, but other than that, I mean, anyway, this has been the journey into deep space, break your feed for anything that can tangentially relate to No Man's Sky.
I've been kaju, you've been great and I'll see you in the next video thanks again and bye wake up your dark side dark one wake up your dog uh
