2017 Lincoln Continental - One Take

Mar 24, 2024
foreigner, good morning everyone, welcome to Angelus Forest, beautiful day for a ride here and wow, I'm relaxing in the all-new

2017

Lincoln Continental model with all-wheel drive EcoBoost Reserve, so, the Continental is all-new um, he's really Lincoln's guy. Hail Mary, um it's the only vehicle they make that isn't a platform or badge actually designed from something else, um that's not to say they don't redo their interiors and they do, but this is its own thing, it's size complete. sedan is really the size of an S Class um it's a beast and this one has tested 71,000 and that's with the 3.0 uh ecoboost uh engine, the all-wheel drive system and many options, including the one I'm looking at from the sheet here I sorry uh this says the five thousand dollar luxury package that comes with 3 power adjustable seats in a dirty way, in fact you can adjust the left and right thigh bolster separately from the rest of the seat and from each other which is crazy, also massage seats which I'll turn on right now.

It also has the three thousand dollar technology package that comes with the Revel stereo. It may be Revel and not Revel, but either way it sounds beautiful and these metal speaker grills appear to be exactly the same. The same ones I recently bought in a Mercedes, so let's go around and talk about what the Continental is like, first points against it. Well, it's a full-size sedan that's really a flagship car for Lincoln, and yet it has a transverse V6 with a front-wheel drive-based platform running a Hal deck-style all-wheel drive system, which isn't how most work. Of luxury cars, most luxury cars have a longitudinal configuration with rear-wheel drive based architectures and that is more of a high-end luxury feel.

More Interesting Facts About,

Ford has gone like this. That's right, not unlike the Cadillac XTS and, uh, but I will say that you don't realize it. I mean, it's the kind of thing that bothers you mentally forever. Okay, I get it, but from behind the wheel in 90 of your driving situations. Does that matter and I think the answer is no? I'm just starting to notice when I really start pushing hard through these corners and I can feel the hallway covers getting a little bit like, oh, what are you doing? I don't calculate this type of driving, what is unique about the Continental is that, for the first time in a long time, the Nurburgring lap times, and the sporting pretension has not led the way, in terms of chassis and suspension, this is a complete. -Size sedan that is designed primarily for city and highway use and drives as such, it is large and buoyant, it is what you imagine of a classic American sedan, however, classic American sedans with their buoyancy had a level of imprecision, the direction was sloppy. the pedals felt like you were pushing too hard all the inputs were terrible with

continental

you get that comfortable, floaty, cloudy ride quality but then you have a really fast steering rack almost like the cts-v's fast steering rack and then You have your modern pedals that are sharp and you know, direct and floor the bass.

I have good step on the brake. I have a good feeling. I'm confident, it's smooth and floaty, but also confident when you

it into a corner. 255 tires around. The 20s and its Michelin Primacy tires, so they're kind of an eco-minded tire, but having said that, for a big, heavy sedan, it does get pretty quick around these corners, I'm actually a little impressed with it. Once you get here, the steering is firm and linear and is Straight on Center. um the gearbox falls behind, it's the six speed automatic, which works well as a daily commuter car around here when I use the sport mode and the manual paddles, it's definitely behind its competition, but you know the 70 thousand dollars you spent on this car went places besides a sporty gearbox with responsiveness like an automatic, it's a great automatic, nothing wrong with it, but I will say that your Pat the palette.

The shift paddles here, um, are really cheap plastic and I think they're out of place on a 71,000 car. I hope at least one of these models comes with better paddles, but I don't know many other things, the shift though. The window switches seat adjusters, climate control and radio buttons all feel nice and upscale. I remember a few months ago I recently reviewed the seventy-two thousand dollar Jaguar XF and the conclusion was that I really didn't like it. a seventy thousand dollar car this really works um when I get in this and I touch things and I sit in it and I drive things it feels exclusive it feels um not just like you know a Ford um I think Ford is doing well I think Their cars are getting better and better but this really seems like a premium product to me, I talked about the 30 way adjustable but they are actually very comfortable and are not as good as the S Class coupe which I said were the best seats ever put on a car, but the S-Class coupe costs three times as much as this car, so I can forgive them for being on par with the seats in the Range Rover and high-end Germans. things, I'm sure I'm going to go out of manual mode and just into sport mode, I'll let the gearbox do its own job here, uh, what else can I talk about the stereo?
It's cool, it's basically Ford Sync. It is a slightly modified version. but it has a big bump in premium audio. I don't have any problems with synchronization. Uh, modern toilets. Well, they are all modern. I have no problem with the latest generation of pairing, whether it's on my RS or my press cars, it's easy to get my phone Bluetooth. set up uh it's easy to navigate through the menus and stuff, the voice recognition works pretty well um I will say there are a few touch points in the car. I said it's a premium experience and I stand by that, but there are a couple of little touch points like up here, the sunglasses holder, and a couple of things that are out of your primary reach but that you might have to touch from time to time from time to time and they fall behind a little bit, but I'm being picky, I think I think to get it. much better in that department, you'd really have to up the price, full LCD gauge cluster, moderately configurable but clean layout, easy to read, not too busy.
I like the wood and metal on this car, the aluminum finish. all real and I would say the root wood looks beautiful. I'm glad it's not a black piano. You also have things like full 360-degree cameras. Automatic parking. Radar cruise control which I have used a lot so far. Very good, but not the best. Mercedes has dynamic radar distance cruise control, which is the best system yet. This one really creates a hard line with the car in front of you, so, that's it. Continue to the right until you reach that line and accelerate harder. Some of the other systems are a little more progressive, but it's not bad, it's totally usable and useful in traffic.
And this car, which you know, is so big that it is kind. of dancing around uh pretty light on his feet, don't you know? I'm not pressuring him. I'm not going to attract a date with him. It's not a racing car, it's not even a sports car, but you have to go. through a path like this to go skiing or go up to do activities in the mountains, whatever, you can push this down the path and it won't feel totally out of place, okay, that's pretty impressive, let's move on, it's Quite a steep downhill so I've been using a lot of brakes but no they aren't fading so far which is pretty impressive yeah overall I have to say I'm a big fan.
Maybe I went into this a little too forward, I wanted to like this car. I can admit that I am not a perfect human being. I'm not a robot that can. Consumer Reports wanted me to like it. I did it before driving the car and I like it. Would I necessarily go out and buy one? No, I think it's the Chrysler 300 they need. Not really. I don't think Lincoln badly needs a Chrysler 300. I don't think this is it, but I think it's a lovely car. I think it's a great place to spend time. I'm going on a road trip this weekend walking around Palm Springs.
I think it will be beautiful and I believe. The execution is 96 ways out of a hundred, very good, so congratulations Lincoln. I think you've built a really good car here and there will be Prejuice people out there or people who just look at it and say they can. It won't be good, but I think people who drive this car or

take

it for a spin will be surprised at how nice a place it is to spend time, and if you haven't been to any of the latest luxury car lots and you got on to this first one, you know, you ignore the little ups, the little cross here and this could easily be a jaguar or a Mercedes in terms of what you see and what you feel.
Very good job Lincoln, I like it, look at my steering wheel. Well you want to see what's going on in my garage, but that's all for today, this is the Lincoln Continental and thanks for looking, I'll see you guys later.
