Work Tuff Gear: Nomads and Predators and Chantos...Oh My!! And Much More! Blade Show 2021

Mar 17, 2024
Hello everyone, Eric from Outer Limitless, here with Carlos from Daily Carry Solutions. We are here at Blade

2021

. We are about to enter the hard

work

booth, which to me is absolutely incredible after a long year of

work

. Hard knives in my hands. difficult use just using these

blade

s in depth, well now seeing them here at the

blade

show

and walking to the booth, this is a special moment and besides that fact, well I will actually have a couple of knives on the floor, which is very It's exciting for me, so let's meet the guys. It's great to finally meet these guys in person, but with that let's go to the booth, there he is, I finally get to meet him in person, dad, what's up? and see what happens. in front of the center I love it, yes I love it, how are you talking?, talking to our boys, yes, it's good to see you, there's

more

things happening, well, that's very important, so zeke, the first time we talk, I asked you a very important question.

He said who would win in a knife fight, okay, okay, would it be a hooligan or a nomad? Yeah, and what did you say, do you remember probably meeting me? It was probably a situational thing, right, you said, well, you know it's difficult, yes, and I think you were still leaning a little bit towards the hooligan at that time although you admit that you are becoming

more

nomadic in your time, yes, that's true, man, yes, absolutely, but things have changed, yes, because now you don't just have the original nomad. Yeah sure, but you've evolved absolutely fine, so I'd say one of your knives in the nomad collection now competes with the hooligan for a bit of that space, yeah, and has a bit more fighting power, what do you think?

More Interesting Facts About,

work tuff gear nomads and predators and chantos oh my and much more blade show 2021...

Yes, absolutely man. and for that I would definitely take the right helicopter, yes, designed from scratch, it has the DNA of a kukri and a little bit of a sea ax and a little bit of a blade all rolled up in there, so basically if it was a great historic helicopter and a great historical combat knife, yes, it has some DNA in this fabric, yes, so I had a chance to review this before and my analysis, you know, the hard-wearing wood fire type is really my thing, I love it. splitting wood and making a fire so when I see these blades I think yeah that will do and my analysis doesn't need a cane I mean this thing will literally go through wood split it with ease good length forward but at the same time. without reasonable balance, you end up with that high saber sharpness, so you took a lot of the mass and distributed it evenly, you know, along the blade, which was fine, but having that wedging ability just makes it go through the wood so when You also said that I was actually watching the YouTube video and I have to admit Eric sometimes I'm a fan of that s

tuff

and I don't watch a lot of it uh because then you know I don't know I think it goes to your head, so it might be for me anyway, it goes to my head, yeah, but uh uh, but when you said that, uh, a cane wasn't necessary, I thought, oh man, this is amazing, like this so thank you for that, yeah, I really appreciate it and you know.

I'm trying to

show

you what it's like, how it works, I gotta say, man, it absolutely did, so proper chopper, man, it works, thanks, I appreciate it, so not only this year have I had the luxury of handling a lot of these hard to handle knives. work. and put them to good use in the field. In fact, I had the opportunity, thanks to Victor Lin for designing a blade that I now hope to be part of this lineup and here is the wooden handcrafted chanta, so a fool to cut. design now zeke, I'm always interested in getting a little bit of feedback from other people, right, I'm just curious, I mean, now I hope it's the first time.

I think you've had the ability to see this in person, yeah, I'm curious. As for your feedback, I can always give you feedback. I source some myself, so usually as part of what we do with Vic, he'll send me a prototype of almost everything and give me a feel for it. and all that uh with this one I didn't buy one of these I picked it up off the table for the first time and I instantly liked a couple of things about it uh I instantly loved the weight and balance of this thing uh the secondary tip is kind of Genius, uh, I really like it, it was an incredible inspiration for that.
The other thing that I really thought was cool about this and how I describe it when people come to the table is that it's a little gladius that's used on the Woods you're right and I don't think there's anything wrong with that, it's one of the historically deepest knives of all time, so if you're going to compare something to that, why not have a single edge version? The knife is hard, it is light and for many cutting tasks it seems like it will do a very good job. I really like the sharp point of this. I think this will fill a niche for a thing that people are probably sleeping on and it's something called a finishing knife, so when you go hunting you might have a wild boar that I used to hunt a lot growing up in central California, in the bay area.
We went out to central California and hunted a board. My k-bar was that. I'd rather have something like this because it's basically a piercing spike on this thing slimmed down but it doesn't compromise the fact that it can fight. Yeah, I'm glad you mentioned that because I think my initial impression and just from the drawings and without literally seeing it and handling it, I was worried that the tip was okay, but I didn't want to compromise the concept by thickening it right now. I think this should come with a warning that a lot of people with heavy duty knives are used to very rough use, this can be very useful, but if people think they are going to literally cry over the tip of this right, will they have issues?
Don't know. I'm going to say maybe yes, but to me this is made more for a little finesse and someone using a little more skill than just literally punching it in and I like the idea that you get some protection with the tip of the piercing . with chef experience, right, and a guy who's practiced a little bit with knives, works on that kind of s

tuff

because nobody's a real knife fighter unless you're fighting with knives and I don't particularly want to fight with anyone all night um What I will say is that knife is incredibly sharp and as a guy who has owned knives his whole life because you know the parameters of the knife, you know the limits of the knife, you know exactly what the knife is going to do in a given situation now, do I Would I put this through the hood of a car? uh like this one probably isn't right uh but I would prefer to carry this if I'm going hunting that's my design I'd prefer to carry it for that particular for that particular reason I appreciate it and it shows because it's reasonably light and agile because I do a lot of hiking camping while in the background you're being modest at that point this is a super light knife and it's super well balanced thank you yes yes. yeah, that's right, yeah, you don't need to be, you don't need to be too

much

.
I took it before the shower, it's hard to tell until you use it now. The thing about these blades is that people will struggle to use them, yes, and that's where I ended up thinking, you know what? If you go to hit with the blade, it will hit your hands. It's just that, in short, there's not

much

you can do about it. You're still going to have some hot spots, so I just thought, "You know what gloves you're wearing." It's perfect, you know, sometimes it's a good review, yeah, thanks, I appreciate it, but sometimes that's the truth.
It hits hard, yeah, it cuts like a bastard, it splits like a bastard, it's durable, you can't kill it and to me, using a knife hard is its own sport, so embrace it, you know, and what have you, then , what do I love to get some? hit, I love having some marks on my hands as you know I used my tool well so yeah it's fun and it's really interesting to see how big this is because I didn't think it was as big as the real horse so here finished. with a slightly different finish that's like a little bit of engraving, that's nice, yeah, really cool, so that's something I have to say.
I've been really enjoying the work. Hard Knives, Vic is experimenting with finishes and I and I love it. who is open to that and says, oh, let's try two tones on this or yeah, let us know, splash it, so you know, it's adding the artistry and the creativity to a functional sheet, which is really refreshing and it's nice to see it well and You know, even the same blade keeps coming out with a new iteration, which is fun, so you might know your camping knife, you might have your proper chopper, but to me, when you have a great design and you can see it at Through different size classes sometimes different design elements can be translated zeke.
I think you've been able to find a way to maybe scale things back a little bit and I'd like to thank you for that man. I wanted to preserve something and I wanted to keep it really the idea of a crew line through the entire nomad line, so we started, yes, we started with the nomad camp and from there we reduced it to a nomad camp, which is with a six and a half inch border that is. a little more field, lighter, that kind of thing and then we end up with this and I'm not really known for small knives, but this is my idea of what an EDC knife should look like, a constant edge, it has that geometry. with a high bevel on it, high grind so you can cut with it, slice very easily, you can still do wood work with it, uh, all of that has what I call the nutcracker on the knob, uh, so you might know crack. nuts with it, if you want, uh, all that good stuff, nice little indexing points, one of the most important things in my design philosophy, uh, on every knife you see I make, you can close your eyes and you'll know exactly where your hands are on that knife at all times and how that edge is going to line up with your knuckles, which in turn allows things to be a little bit easier because when you're camping the conditions aren't always perfect, sometimes in the darkness if you're uh being a soldier and you need to go out on a night off or something.
You don't know where everything you know is on your equipment, but you want to have indexing points on your knife so you know exactly where it's blindfolded and I can use it, uh, very easy that way, you just have to try to think of all the ways a guy would use a knife and fit it into this and I thought when I designed it no one was going to like it, it was going to be super ugly. and it was all function over form and it turns out people loved this oh yeah, I absolutely loved it.
I wish I had a million of them, well, I'll tell you this was going around in circles, okay, and I told him. I told them I can't hold it yet because well, I have to hold it for the first time. Okay, sitting next to Zeke, great, and here's the other thing I really like. Sometimes it's for me and a lot of people watch. for a one tool option and that's great and I appreciate when you can do it well and you do it well but I'm a big believer in a two tool system so now you've created that opportunity for people who Do you know a fan?
They are a fan of the type of work. They're a Zeke fan and they're a nomadic fan. Now you give them that option to actually run with the multi-blade system, you know, which I really enjoyed at first. very well contoured beautifully contoured nice little pumps well indexed perfectly fine I always like scallops on my knives because you know, pinch grips are alternative grips but also when you get on the side of the blade that for me will always be your best ferro rod front. So for me this is the perfect little ferro rod striker. It's not that big knife that you're trying to swing around and make sparks fly or do something you know fluff to start the fire.
It's secure, it's controlled, it fits well, it indexes well, and it actually fills your hands perfectly to where the handle length is a full four-finger grip and it indexes absolutely perfectly. I also love that you guys broke the mold and went with the ats 34. so you guys are old school. to do it if you love if you love ats 34 you love it and it's a cult behind it yeah so you're influencing vic and again I have to give props to vic he will absolutely allow you to influence man and that's the community you get here with the mark of hard work so zeke manager I appreciate it mate it's nice to see you it's nice to meet you man fantastic and I hope this is literally just the beginning of a lot I think it's just the tip of the iceberg, yes, beautiful
