in July, so let's get started on project number one now. For this project I'm going to use this about one and a half inch wide wooden dowel, it's about two feet long, I bought it for 20 cents at Habitat for Humanity, any wood you want, any size you want, you can get it at home improvement stores, you know, I think Walmart has plus sizes or as a hobby. lobby in your unfinished wood section, you can use the dollar tree wooden shovel handle or the dollar tree plunger handle.

Anything like that will work, you could even use it as the cardboard center of a roll of vinyl or wrapping paper. You know, maybe a cardboard center that's nice and stiff and sturdy would work and it doesn't matter the diameters, just what you have on hand. I'm going to cut mine into three sections of about nine and three quarter inches, leaving me a nice little piece for our next project so next strip here this is it, they're all cut and ready to go. I'm going to use some felt that I bought at Walmart. It is a slightly thicker felt.

More Interesting Facts About,

You can use the fine felt from Dollar Tree. Alright. you could fold it if you want it a little thicker. I'm going to use this, of course, like I said at Walmart. I'll just roll it up here and see what size I need and then cut that length and then use this piece to cut the next two pieces for our other two perfectly made wooden dowels here. I'm also going to trace the end of the studs on a piece of paper to give me a little pattern and then I'm going to cut them out of the felt as well, so um or batting whatever you want to call it, you know, because I want to cover this all over with the felt so that It's softer and doesn't seem so hard when we're done.

I'm going to use fabric from Walmart, this striped fabric, if you don't have it, you could certainly use this paper that I bought at Hobby Lobby, I got like four of them for a dollar in the Christmas section, roll it up there, that's right, you don't. I even have to add batting if you use the paper, if you want to add batting it softens it up a little bit. I would go with the thinner batting from Dollar Tree if you are going to add that, add the paper seat, I don't. I know if you can really see it on camera, but it just adds a little bit of softness to it.

I'm going to use beacon fabric glue today and we're going to go ahead and start attaching our batting rod to the felt. ends, I'm going to show one here, it kind of jumps forward a little bit, you know, but we're doing it for the three of us. Look, I'm miraculously on the third and then we're going to go ahead and get started. Place our longer pieces of felt on our wooden dowels and you can stretch them to fit a little. It works perfectly. Marvelous. I get it there and I need to cut off a little bit of the excess here, a little bit, and then we get.
It stuck all the rest of the way down yeah, we're making some candy canes. Finally I told them I'm going to do this on all three pegs of course like I said one two and three now we're going to start with our fabric the size I need for my peg size is five inches tall nine and three quarter inches wide, just measure your peg correctly and then I'll place it on my fabric, the pattern piece diagonally so we get those nice sweet diagonals. baton stripes, so make sure you keep that in mind as you cut the size you need for your cardboard peg or circle here, okay and of course you're going to cut three of those and you also want to cut the ends of your circle, so cover all sides the next supply we're going to need is some cheesecloth now I already have something made from a previous project.
You can find cheesecloth in the kitchen section at Walmart for two or three dollars, but I'll put a little scrap piece here to show you what to do, so let's wear out our stuff. I'm going to use this ink. You can find it in any section of the scrapbook. I'll try to get you a link on Amazon. It's distress rust ink. Old photo of Ranger Tim. Holtz and I usually only have one tool here, it's kind of like a makeup sponge on the end, you just rub it in the ink and rub it into the fabric nice and easy and look how worn it's already starting to look, I think It looks amazing here, you can see the difference between worn and not worn, how easy that was, so today we're going to do that with all of our fabric and we're going to use this ink on all of our projects today and you're going to do the same. on the cheesecloth, you rub it on the cheesecloth and then you wrinkle the cheesecloth to get nice dark things, you do two or three layers, you know, you get nice dark creases and everything in it, that's how easy this is once I've got it all distressed.
I'm taking these short ends of my fabric and I'm just pulling on the ends to lift up some threads and give it a little bit of distress. I'm going to do that with all three pieces like this and then I'm also going to distress all the little circles, okay, now we're going to start assembling. I'm using that beacon fabric glue again, of course, and I'm going to add a little bit of glue around all the edges and then we'll just go. To put our dowel over this and roll it up nice and easy now when I get to the end, I want to make sure I match up my stripes so it looks nice and finished here, so pay attention to those details, make sure like you.
By rolling it up, you're matching your stripes there to make it look like one continuous stripe as best as possible, perfect, and then we're going to start gluing our ends here. I'm going to put it here and then we're just going to put the sides together and put it all together so that all that batting and feeling whatever we call it is all covered, it looks all nice and finished, we're going to do that on both ends here and that's why We also distressed the ends, so as we put it all together it hides any imperfections, so now we have all three magically done and we're going to go ahead and use our distressed gauze, you know, and we.
I'm going to tie this all up in a bundle, so we have a little bundle of candy canes here, so I'm just tying my cheesecloth in a little bow and I'm going to fluff it all up and fluff the cheesecloth. tails here I figure out where I want them to be and I'm going to glue things into position here, glue the tail and stuff because I want them to stay, you know, cheesecloth is very flimsy, of course, so I want everything to stay in the cute little distressed position I want it in, so stick it however you want, stick the tails where you want, making it all nice and pretty.
Once I've done that, I'll bring this. dollar tree twine I'm going to bring some beads for my supply and then I have a little mini ornament I bought these last year at Walmart. I like the round circle. These came from Walmart last year also in the mini ornament. section you can use whatever you want you can use these from Dollar Tree it doesn't really matter it's your preference if you want to hang something I'm also going to use some sisal here I'll be sure to link it below for you and then I think it was Last year I gave away a free printout of these.
They are on my blog. I'll be sure to link that description box. I use them year after year. They never get old. I'm going to use that, I'm going to use a little piece of fabric here, I'm going to combine the two and show you what we're going to do, so I've got my dollar tree twine in a loop and I'm adding my beads on both ends here, one white and a red one at each end, of course, if I find them both, they roll up perfectly. I'm not going to tie it all the way yet, I'm going to take my round ornament and just Trace it onto that little piece of fabric, I want to cover both sides with a little bit of fabric to give it the fabric look that the candy canes had, so of course, I'm going to cut them both out and then once I've done that, We're going to go ahead and distress the edges so it looks like the fabric distressing on the candy canes on both circles and then we're going to go ahead and start gluing it down, we're just going to cover the front and the back.
The back will be simple and then I'll take that circle and trace it. You can see it when I lift it over the quote that I want to use and then I'm redrawing a new perimeter here. about an eighth of an inch or so, when I cut it out, it's going to show a little bit of the perimeter of the fabric, since I'm going to stick this label on top of the fabric. Go ahead, here I'm cutting it out perfect and then I'm going to take this to the sewing machine, it's going to be hard to see, but you know I'm sewing around that little circle nice and easy, this is what looks nice, it just adds a little bit of texture, we're going to add a little bit more texture by taking the open end of the blades of my scissors and scraping the edges of the paper.
You can see what it looks like here, just add that nice

rustic

touch and see how it's going to look against the fabric and then go ahead and glue both pieces to the front of our tag, which is actually the back of the tag. All the little details matter. I'm using my memory hole punch, here, drill that wood and I'm going to distress it. around the edges a little bit with that ink and then we're going to go ahead and I've got some little ones like wire beaded bells and pitted berries here I'm going to add this to the center of our bow just add a little fun things add a little bit of twine on our little hanging ornament here so we can hang it, of course, and I'm going to go ahead and figure out how long I want the tails of my bow to be and then I'm going to knot it.
Cut that off and cut off the excess, we don't want our beads to fall off so don't forget to do that and then I have a little bell on a safety pin here, I'm going to clip it through the thread. of that ornament and then we hook both through the center of our perfect yarn loop and then we're going to glue on some of that sisal, this should give us that rustic, primitive country feel, all those code names. We'll add our bow to the front and then I'll add some sparkly glass. Here two types of shiny glass I get from reneelcaze.com and I will have the link below for you, here is the other one. just using my beacon fabric glue i put the glue where i want it and just shake it on both glitter glass you can use regular glitter here it doesn't really matter sprinkle some glitter glass and then once you have everything where I love you.
You know, I don't show it here, but I turn it over, remove the excess and that completes this project. Do it, let's move on to project number two. For this project, I want two circles of different sizes for each end. of this reel we're going to make, so I'm using two wood slices and apparently a kitten and two of these thick wooden circles from Dollar Tree for my center. I'm using this leftover piece I had from the last project, right, but remember we discussed different options. You can use the handle of the Dollar Tree shovel or the Dollar Tree toilet bowl plunger or the cardboard center of your wrapping paper or whatever.
My piece of wood here is about four and three quarter inches long just for reference. and then I'm going to go ahead and fill the holes in my wood pieces here with some wood putty, so here they are all done and sanded ready to go. If you don't have this, this is an option because I know they don't exist anymore. Right now, at least on our dollar tree, there are these coasters that you could use for your ends, you could use just one or you could use two for each end to double it, okay, so that's an option if you don't have those other ones. parts.
What I'm doing now is just taking wood glue and attaching my wood slices to the larger dollar tree wood circles, just measuring to make sure everything is centered and I'm going to go ahead and glue my dowel to the center half of that too, making sure it's centered by marking my center on the other side and then placing it right on top and I'll let it sit once it's dry. I'm going to use this antique Waverly wax and I'm going to paint it all. I'm not going to dilute it or anything. I'm using it with full force.
I want this nice, dark look so it really has that rustic, primitive look. I'm not even going to like to wipe off the excess, you know, because a lot of times we wipe it off, we wipe off the excess, I'm not going to do it, I just want it full force and once I'm done with it and it's all dry, I will go. Go ahead and grab my electric sander and sand everything off camera. The next thing we are going to need from Dollar Tree is one of these candles, they come two in a package. I'm going to go ahead and turn off the little light. part and I'm taking some 220 grit sandpaper and I'm sanding all the plastic off of this candle because I want to spray paint it and it's too slippery for the spray paint to come off right before I paint it.
I want to move on and yes I know, I got out my hot glue gun, no one freak out if you need to sit down and breathe, do it now. I'm using my hot glue gun to simulate a candlemelted, you know, wax. on the top of our little light here and then this is the brand that I'm going to use for spray painting, so here it's all ready to go, it magically happened that way, I don't know, it's the magic of everyone's movie ways I want to lighten it a little bit, it's too dark brown, so I'm taking a little bit of lighter brown paint using my finger here and I'm just rubbing it into the areas that you know where we want. to make it look like melted wax and so on.
I'll rub it into the main part of the candle as well just to give it some highlights and give it a little bit of definition. The next thing we're going to do is glue the bottom of that candle holder to the top of our spool and I'm going to bring in some beaded berries that I love to use from the hobby lobby and some other pitted berries and a rusty bell garland that I think I bought at Joann's house last year. This came from Joann's other little pieces. you know, green things you know, like the dollar tree and the hobby lobby, a torn strip of fabric about two inches wide and then this is something I just printed out on my computer.
I will have the source in the description box below, just use my microsoft. The editor's program printed it on cardboard. I'm going to sew it. You can see here. It has already been miraculously done again. I then sewed it on with my sewing machine and took the open end of my scissors blades again and then just distressed it. the edges and then I'm going to use a little bit of this ink. Remember we're bringing this in for all of the projects today and I'm just going to distress it and the back I want to see everything you know put together and finished off. perfect and then I'm just going to crumple it and crease it and stuff and then go back and use that ink right over those little curves and everything just to give it a little bit more definition, just like that, I'm adding just a little string through it, I just colored the rope with the ink and then we'll start gluing our greenery on top.
I'll change the view here for you in just a minute. Yes, I'm using my hot glue gun, but I know it's a change for me, you know I rarely put this out, but I'm doing it for this one because, you know, I didn't want to sit here and wait for the fabric to set. for each piece while I'm filming, just do it. Make sure you use enough hot glue when you do this and just lay the pieces back and forth so it looks nice and cohesive and add the stone berries, whatever looks nice to you, I just try to do it. look even on both sides here we have a better and nice change of view for you.
I know it's pretty close, but I want you to see it from this angle also adding the white berries occasionally the cute rusty bells, perfect to add. on some of my favorite beads here, beaded berries, I guess adding a little more greenery, we're almost done with this part, but I wanted you to see the whole process now, if you take a look here you can see how. I'm leaving the front edge of that spool open and then as I'm putting the greenery in, I'm not just going out to the sides, I'm also going up so that when we go to put in our little one, you know. a fake candle in some of that type of greenery goes up and in front of that candle it gives it a nice, fairly uniform look adding a big rusty bell here that came out of that spike adding a little rusty star here and I'm Taking that piece of cloth that ripped the fabric and I'm inking it with that ink, I'm going to cut a part off here, tear it down a little bit more anyway and I'm just going to distress that edge. where I cut it out and I just make a little center knot in the middle, put it there to see if it's where I want it and I'm going to bring that label to it.
I have some hot glue. and I'm going to hot glue that and then I'm going to hot glue our little torn fabric right on top of that tag and I'm going to add a little mini bell here and another larger bell to make it look like a nice little trio. of bells in the center with that larger one on top and then I'm going to gather my fabric a little bit and glue it in place so it's where I want it to be, then we're going to add our light the candle and once I get this project complete, let's move on to our last project number three for this project.
I'm going to bring these coasters that I showed you as an alternative to the one we just made. five of them, you could use wood slices, you would need five of them, okay, I'll bring this style of wooden dollar tree ornaments. I'm going to use the average. I'm going to need four of them. I have six bells and then I'm going to bring, you know, these two twines from Dollar Tree and this white twine from Walmart and I'm going to bring some mini wooden ornaments again from Walmart right now, I hadn't decided what I was going to use, but whatever you want use would be fine and I'll bring a bunch of different strips of crochet ribbon about four or five inches long from Dollar Tree from the Walmart hobby lobby Joanne.
You name it, I usually have about six designs. or that, I'm going to bring some of that felt, batting again some of this fabric, some of this muslin fabric and some of this stripe fabric, all from Walmart, okay, so the first thing we can do is use Like I said for the average, I want two. In each direction, what I did was I traced the middle to start like this and then I went in about a quarter of an inch or so and read you a new perimeter, you know how I do it right and we're going to cut. out of the fabric, here it is ready to go, now I have sewn around my fabric, you don't have to do that, but I have also worn it around the fabric, you might want to do that to give it something fun that you want one for. the front and one for the back of each stocking, then I use that piece of fabric and trace it again, okay, so it's a little bit smaller and you're going to cut it out of your felt, here it's already done and it will look like this, when get everything ready to go, you're going to need a piece of felt for each stocking, then we're going to go in with that ink, you can paint it if you want, but look how fast this ink is and I'm going to distress both sides of each of our four pieces of stocking.
I'm only making two here to show you that the others are already well made and painted distressed, ready to use, so on each stocking you're going to glue them on. First, put the little felt down and then you will glue the fabric right on top. If you don't want to use felt, you don't have to. If you don't want to use fabric, you can use paper. For both sides it works perfectly wonderful right, we are on the second one now the same in another direction gluing our felt and then gluing our fabric or like I said, you can just glue paper if you want on the front, front and back although it is nice and finished like this .
I have two pieces of twine here, it's probably about 10 inches long from the brown twine and on two pieces of red and tan twine again, both from the dollar tree, that one is probably about oh 15. inches long or so. I'm going to use my hole punch here to make a hole in each of the stockings and thread our brown thread through first so we have a nice little piece for a hanger and I'm going to take both of them together and just tie it with a little knot about a half inch above from that stocking or so, we'll make the other perfect one and then I'm going to take that red and tan thread and right under that knot I'm going to make a nice bow and let it hang and I'm going to do this on my four little wooden stockings yeah, let's go to make a garland you know I love to make a garland, there is my garland for the year and here are my four stockings made and ready to go, so for this there are five coasters that you will need if you use them to sand the front, they will It removes very easily, it's almost like you rub it or something like that.
I sanded most of it so it wouldn't show and then what I did was cut an eight and a half inch circle. Our coasters are about four inches, so I doubled it and added about an extra half inch of course. I will need five circles of fabric. Now I have a piece of thread here. I passed it through the eye of a needle and knotted one end. Well, the first thing we want to do is set it aside for a minute. What we do is we take that ink and we want to rub it on just one side of the fabric and wear it down and then we're going to insert that needle.
I'm doing it on the light side so you can see it better. No matter which side you do it on, we're going to take that needle from front to back and then back to front about a half inch apart or so front to back back to front those of you who don't know how to sew front to back back back to front front to back back to front we're pleating that fabric on our needle just like that, pleating it back and forth and then once you've got a nice bulge there, keep going. and take it out and then continue again front to back back to front pleating that fabric until you get to the point where you started, okay, get a little bunch, take it out like this, like this, when you get close to where your knot was, keep going and pull that out and remove the needle and then right where the knot was, go ahead and pull that out so you have two long tails sticking out, make sure the distressed side is on the outside, it's okay if you need to flip.
It depends on where you sewed it and set it aside for a minute. Now I apologize because I don't know where the footage went, but with that felt what you need to do is take your coaster, trace it on the felt, and cut out two circles. So what we're doing here now is taking those two circles that we cut out and we're going to glue them on each side of the coaster. You're going to have five coasters to do this and then we're going to take our little piece of fabric with our two long tails sticking out we're going to put our coaster right inside in the center we're going to take those two long tails and we're going to pull both of them at the same time to close our small Make a circle here, okay and then you'll tie a nice knot in the center, perfect and then I like to tie it just two or three four times, however many times you want and then cut off those excess tails now.
I'm going to grab our plaid fabric from Walmart. I'm going to make a small slit out of a strip about two inches wide. Here first make a slip and I'm going to tear that fabric all the way down to get a nice worn piece of fabric. It's about 24 inches long, we're going to find the center of that fabric and we're going to place it right over the center of our gather on the coaster and we're going to turn it inside out and tie a little half knot in it. flip it over to the other side, flip it over again and then the little tails I like to put under the center piece that way when we're going to do another little knot, it's going to pinch the center piece, lift it up and flip it like that and then tying like a little half knot here is perfect just like that now we're going to bring some greenery here a little safety pin a bell some berries are going to decorate our little coaster that has now turned into a candy I'm going to place the berries under that fabric and glue them together so that they remain.
Add a little greenery to each side of our little knot here using the beacon fabric glue, of course we want a little bit here, but not too much, and then. I'm going to add the safety pin and the bell right in the center of that perfect knot and then I'm going to take some of this ink again. I want to distress that plaid fabric because we didn't do that ahead of time. just to make it all match and look worn like I said, we want a little pretty but not too much, we want it simple and then I'm going to grab some of this extra fine glitter that I bought at Walmart.
I'm going to use my fabri-tat glue and I'm just going to put it in a few places and then I'm going to spray the glitter right on top as much as I want and I'm going to wipe off the excess and once that's done, we'll miraculously have a magical film again. five of our cute coaster candies all ready for our garland now, if you didn't want to make the garland you just want to make the coaster candies, look how cute it looks on a tray here with the candy canes we made in the first project . how cute would that be simple you don't have to make the garland and you have a cute little set here just wanted to show you that but let's move on to our garland so for our garland you're going to need five of these little ones. eye hooks and I'm just going to run my scissors through the fabric and make a little starter hole and twist our little eye hooks into place.
Use my pliers to get them in nice and tight. Make sure when you attach the eye hook. Once it's set, the eye hook side faces forward like this, otherwise the candy won't hang well. Once all five are ready, I have about a 10-inch piece of twine, one for each candy and myself. I'm just putting both pieces together and tying a little knot right above the hook, just like we did on the stockings, okay, again, you're going to do that on all five pieces and I'm just going to bring in just a little bit of this crochet trim that I bought. at Dollar Tree they are cut to about five inches long.
Here I'm just tying a little half knot right under the knot of that thread. I'm inking it a little. I forgot to do it ahead of time, so you could I want to ink it and distress it and then this is what it will look like. You're going to add that thread to the five pieces now out ofcamera. I decided on the long hang tags instead of the short ones I showed you in the beginning and then four of our six bells and put my twine through them and knotted them again with about a 10 inch piece of twine; the two largest bells I will save later for last.
For our garland now for our main garland I am using the red and brown twine and the white twine together. I usually cut 80 inches of twine and then at the end of each twine I save about 10 inches and tie them together to make a little loop to hang, then I fold that twine in half and find that the center between the two loops gives me about five ft capacity to hang our pieces and then I will place in the center one of my main elements for the garland which in this case are the candies and then I space them evenly along the garland and then the other hanging elements are spaced evenly between them, so in essence what I'm trying to say, generally all of my hanging pieces have about three inches of space. between each hanging item so now we are placing the main pieces of candy of course I have a different view for you here so you can see and I have marked all the p's in all the places that I am going to hang with the pieces of ribbon like this that when I go to hang everything, I take off the tape now I'm hanging the four stockings where I want them to be in the perfect position, we'll get the last one over here and then I'll start hanging the four bells. and the two long tags like this, removing the little markers as we go perfect and I usually find that about five feet of garland is a perfectly wonderful length, you know, for hanging, obviously I'm going to go ahead and cut all the little ones off.
The excess tails of our twine I like to leave a little bit hanging for texture, but I'll cut a little bit off and then go in with all the different pieces of fabric here or ribbon. I'm using fabric and ribbon here. that I have cut, remember they are about five inches long, I usually use about four of each design and usually about five or six designs and try to hang them. Know? If I hang whatever I hang on one side, I hang. it's in the exact spot on the other side and that's why now you can see why I leave some tails of the main pieces that I hang like the bells and the candy and things like that, the tails of the twine I leave hanging It was removed because I have little pieces of tape hanging and everything looks cohesive.
I decided to hang some strips of that plaid fabric as well to make those kind of bows on the candy fabric and I always love using them. the dollar tree crochet thread because it just, I don't know, it makes it pretty and now I didn't realize it was way to the right, but now what I'm doing is I'm taking some extra ribbon that I normally use around 20 inches. I'm tying a large bow on each end right at the knot where we made that bow and then I use a safety pin and a bell and attach it to the center of the bow.
I will do it to the right and to the left. side here and then that makes this project complete, so I hope you like all the projects that I came up with today. I arrived at the last possible minute for a Christmas in July video, but gee, I did it just so those of you know. I requested one here, I hope you try some of these. I think they all turned out so rustic,

farmhouse

and primitive. I love them. Leave me a comment below and tell me what project you are going to do right now.
