More Interesting Facts About,

In the washing process, I'm going to soak the body and some diluted degreaser about three to one to break up the stuck-on moss and dirt, now, as you'll see in some of the clips, some of this algae and moss and lichen as you like call it was so attached to the paint that it actually took away some of the paint. You can see there's tons of paint bubbling on the car and it's already missing, so it wasn't too big of a warrior. On mine, I tried to make the least amount of paint come off the car, obviously, because I'll have to touch it up later and polish it, but there really wasn't anything I could do at that point, the car needed it. of

restoration

just trying to see how well we can do for now until the car is fully restored, that's what we're doing here, but, as you can see, these things were really stuck in the oiler, they did a great job.

I thought I'd loosen it up and then we'll move on to some additional steps later in the video, so like I was saying before, this has actually been around since 2004, so just a quick little tip if your guy's car is starting to really let you know. stuck on moss and algae like this on the paint, it's a good idea to wash it and keep it washed because, although it makes for some nice and satisfying clips for YouTube, it really destroys the paint, as you see in some later clips in this video. It was permanently damaged by this algae and left huge bubbles all over the paint and it's a shame that a car like this knows it's left outside, but as you can see it's a huge improvement with just one wash so I hope they do it.

Enjoy some of these clips, but yeah, having this moss in your paint is never a good idea. I don't understand, I don't understand, uh, oh, oh, I don't understand why I think that, so you guys can see the door here. on the driver's side it is partially stuck open. I did it as an example to show you that I'm not going to leave the door open while I wash it on purpose, but the door lock actuator is stuck from turning and then also on the passenger. For one the door was stuck meaning it wouldn't open so as you see in some later clips I managed to get them both to open and close fine but yeah that's the reason the door is partially open right now, so I want to make a comment.
I've been watching the last two videos pretty frequently, which were about carbureted vehicles and how to get water into the engine, so our water goes right down the carburetor, so what do I do to get rid of it? I went ahead and got some microfiber. The towels take off the air filter and then I just stick a few microfiber towels in the carburetor at the choke and then to minimize the water that gets in there, um and then for the air filter, I don't care if it gets soaked, I usually replace them , they're ten dollars, so, yeah, that's how I eliminate that problem and then I move on to clean this engine.
I wanted to use a high strength degreaser, uh, with several rounds and then some acid-based wool cleaner to try to remove some of the rust, but as you can see, the chrome is coming off those valve covers, they're too tarnished. . There is actually a nest built in this engine, not sure what kind of animal except the smell. It was actually horrible and the more I washed it the more it started to smell so I tried to be as thorough as possible and it made a huge improvement, the lesion cleaner and made this big

block

look much better and for the tires, I'm going to using a strong degreaser and a stiff bristle brush to scrub them and make those white coats look nice and shiny, so I decided to remove the center caps and bells and clean them on all four wheels.
I went ahead and went through them all but I went ahead and used my acid based wheel cleaner and a couple different brushes just to get them all nice and clean, although there was quite a bit of rust it turned out pretty good so I'm moving on to the interior details and as you can see I'm getting the chairs out, which was pretty difficult, just because of all the rust on the seat guides and the bolts, I went ahead and got them out, pretty interesting nest. that built up on the carpet, as you will see, once they removed this chair, the carpet was totally torn down, there was literally grass growing out of the carpet, I have never seen this in my life, this has to be one of the coolest cars. dirty. or the dirtiest thing I've ever seen on the canal, but the insulation of the floorboards and the sound deadening carpet or whatever you want to call it was totally garbage, it smelled like urine and the shit of whatever animal was here, it left a lot behind and Then also the carpet was just trash so it will go ahead and be replaced as you guys will see and a few clips later as I mentioned the previous clip the door was open on the driver's side the door lock actuator I was actually frozen and then.
On the passenger side, the door was stuck closed and the window was a little stuck, so there was nothing I could do until we actually worked on the car. I went ahead and removed the door lock actuators, soaked them in diesel overnight and then lubricated them and then reset all the door actuator rods and went ahead and made the doors open and close which It was amazing, but I took the opportunity while the door panels were being removed to clean behind the panels and it made me feel so much better inside. because there was a lot of cobwebs and moss built up and I guess there was some water dripping in there from the center line molding, so I went ahead and vacuumed it and cleaned the inside, so that was a big improvement in the smell, so like you.
I can see another rodent nest built under the console, but I didn't want to remove this console because it was very difficult to get to any of the bolts since they were a little rusty and I didn't want to break the console. so I went ahead and decided to quit. I would have loved to take it out, but I just didn't want to get out of this car and I didn't want to risk breaking the console, but moving on inside, here I go. I'm going to use my all-purpose cleaner along with a few different brushes and some microfiber towels to clean everything now, right around the gauges.
I'm going to be very careful. I don't want any chemicals or products left behind the meters. um, these are all the original things on this car and I didn't want to ruin any of them, so it was kind of a sketch, you know, doing anything on this car, since everything was pretty original, but I mean it was dirty. and dirty. A lot of things got damaged so I try to do my best to keep them as safe as possible but sometimes cars like this have to be cleaned and you have to take extreme measures so after cleaning and steaming all the chairs.
The color was pretty faded and there was a lot of thread showing, so I went ahead and took some black upholstery paint and I went ahead and touched up both seats and as you'll see in some later clips, they turned out really well, almost showing through. like it was reupholstered, obviously there's a slight tear on this chair, but it turned out pretty good and at this point, anything was an improvement on this interior because a lot of these parts, a lot of people just threw the money away, but I tried to save them and in They were actually cleaned very well, as you will see later, now I move on to installing the carpet.
I went ahead and pre-trimmed this outside part of the car and it was a very close size, so I didn't really have to re-trim it and take it out, which was awesome. I already installed some carpets on these older

corvette

s so it wasn't too bad, but yeah, I went ahead and put a new circular carpet on it and it turned out amazing, really happy. The car looked much better inside, so after installing the carpet, I went ahead and gave the Stoner trim some polish and I went ahead and did all the interior trim panels, including the door panels, all the indicators, everything, this is one of my favorite products. for older interiors because it really rejuvenates the color and lasts at least a month or two.
Sometimes if I want to go a little further, I'll use 303 aerospace on top as a top coat because it has some UV protectors. In case it didn't, I just went ahead and stuck with the Stoner finish sheen and it turned out really nice, so after doing a little test panel which you can see here, I got some shine back into this paint and this is only in composite, but I want to go ahead and show you some examples and there will be a couple more examples later in the video, but as you can see, the algae did something that left a permanent mark on the paint of this car.
It was repainted at some point so I don't know if the paint job was of the highest quality but as you can see the light reflection will show some of the damaged paint so there really wasn't anything I could do about some of it. parts of this car. they came out very shiny and some just came out a little bit dull and that was because there were micro cracks in this paint and I'll show you a better example and some clips in a few minutes do that so here's one of the examples. I was talking and as you can see there are a lot of bubbles and then a lot of permanent traces from the algae that built up on this paint and as you can see it has a very stained finish, now generally stained. rusty cars are very acceptable on the first cut, it's usually something that happens, but this was what you could have cut, I mean, for three days in a row, there was nothing you could do to remove those stains because they were actually the micro cracks and texture in the paint that was permanently there, so it brought back some shine and color, as you can see, but it was very far from perfect and if you know me, you know that I will continue to try and try to bring this to these old cars. best possible, but sometimes there really is nothing, they are just very unforgiving when left out like this and, I mean, by no means is this car perfect, but it turned out much better and for a compound, I'm I'm using the Chemical Guys C4 Clear Cut Correcting Compound, which I really like for these oxidized paints because the working time is really good and it does an amazing job of removing a lot of this oxidation to add a little more clarity.
And to give this paint a shine, I'm going to use a Maguire show car mirror polish which works really well on some of these older paint jobs and as you can see, it made a big difference. The polish works very well to fill in defects. Temporarily, you know, at this point the paint didn't really need much protection, it was going to be completely redone in the future, so it wasn't a big concern for me, my biggest concern was just adding a little shine and pop back to it. this yellow and he did an incredible job of making that huge improvement on the car, like I said, very far from perfect, you know, it wasn't anywhere near perfect, but it was a huge improvement to what it was and At this point, the Car just needs to be redone, it's a little sad that someone would pass on a 70 vet like this but I think for what it was it turned out pretty well so far and then as for all the big paint splotches, The guys You'll see them disappear in some of the later clips.
My brother didn't wait for me to etch and went ahead and touched up some of the large missing paint spots. Guys, you'll see me touching up some of them. the brush, but it was taking up too much space on my SD card, which was running out, so I was taking it. I probably filled over 500 ships in this car and I'm not exaggerating, they were literally everywhere and you. You'll see me in the later clip with the brush stroke going back and forth and it was crazy but it made a huge difference on the car so if you're wondering what kind of magic we did to get the spots or the spotsmissing paint went away and they used the same paint color, uh, Daytona yellow, with an airbrush and then a good touch-up brush and they just went over all the spots and then buffed them one more time, so just a clip, I'm talking about that, it was just going back and forth and it was taking up too much space right now, we're accelerated to 2500 speeds, uh, and it's still taking forever, so I went ahead and cropped the camera like you guys.
I'll see, although I touched up all those spots and there were many more that you couldn't see on camera, but moving on to the before and after results, I hope you enjoy the foreigner, so okay guys, well that will wrap up today's video, I hope. You guys enjoyed this transformation as much as I did on this 1970 corvette. I thought it turned out very well so it was far from perfect but it was a great transformation and at least now it's drivable so enjoy these clips. I recorded a couple of small clips of the car running and accelerating, so I hope you and I enjoy them.
See you next time
