P&O boss 'should resign and be prosecuted' after admitting breaking the law

Apr 02, 2024
Firstly, I just want to know your reaction after hearing the cheeky Piano Ferries executive say that they were absolutely obliged to consult, but they didn't choose to do it right. I was sitting five feet behind him in that select committee room and I couldn't. I can't believe what I was hearing that a CEO of a public limited company and a director stated on the record verbatim before a parliamentary committee that they don't care about the law of the land and that they had broken it and would, if necessary, do so. they would do. I would break it again it is an incredible statement for a CEO to make it clear that he needs to

resign

but he also needs to be

prosecuted

and removed as a director there is a fitness and suitability test for directors in this country and he is clearly not one he is also owner of the maritime rating pension fund £146 million that he has agreed to pay and we cannot trust this man to do anything because he is prepared to flagrantly break the law and go on record saying that he would do it again, that is completely unacceptable , but what we also have to do is get our people back to work on these ferries, they are doing their job and stop these layoffs that are illegal.

He accepted that they are illegal and that must be corrected immediately. So we will meet with the PNO this afternoon and hope to make some progress with this. We believe that we have the support of politicians and almost everyone in parliament and we believe that we can pass some laws as quickly as possible to change the situation so that we can correct this injustice, you are talking about passing laws as quickly as possible to correct the injustice , but if it's a company that has already said it broke the law, that will actually do some good. We have to have laws that are strong enough to sanction them properly as as companies and individual directors there are criminal laws about being a director and you cannot be allowed to sit in parliament as a CEO of a public limited company of a company.

In public life in this country where a person could simply say "I don't." He doesn't care about the law that was imposed on him if he drove his car at 90 miles per hour, would that be acceptable? And he said no, but in regards to the dismissal of 800 people who have done nothing wrong, where Piano made commitments to us 18 months ago, they would recruit and retain British sailors so that it is on the record that he is allowed to simply reverse that and By reversing it, flagrantly violating the law, it is taking the ass out of all of us, all the working people in the country who have an employment contract, but also those other companies and companies that comply with their commitments, that respect the law and contracts. of labor and regulations, they need this to be addressed as well, there are other shipping companies and other ferry companies that are being undermined and undermined by this man and him.

They say the economy is hopefully coming out of this Covid period. Businesses across the country and many workers have kept the country going and these workers have kept our imports and exports and our trade links for freight and passenger services going. They are about to reach a time where the economy is going. to recover I don't believe a word they say, if I'm honest the other companies that have exactly the same problems are living up to their commitments and will run their businesses properly if this management team can't cope with the pressures of running a modern company then they need to get out of the way and get some competent people who obey the law in their place and that needs to happen as soon as possible and we are I'm going to ask the government and all the politicians to make sure that we have the regulations and laws adequate to ensure that this happens and that this company returns to work with the commitment to respect the law and employment contracts. and employ British sailors because if we don't we won't have any traders left in this country and our imports and exports will be in the hands of Far Eastern oligarchs who can do whatever they want with respect to British society. and British law that is not acceptable
