The Electric Rolls Royce Spectre is Ridiculous!

Apr 28, 2024
- Okay, so this thing behind me, this, this is the Rolls-Royce Spectre. This is a gigantic, all-

ly expensive luxury sedan. It's crazy. It does not make any sense. But at the same time, it actually makes a lot of sense. It makes a lot of sense. So you'll have to listen to me on this. So yeah, if we're just talking superficially, this is crazy. It's a giant luxury sedan, or I guess technically it's a coupe because... (birds squawking) Alright, I'm going to need everyone... (birds squawking) I need everyone to relax. It's a coupe because it has two doors, but it also has four seats, but 577 horsepower, more than 600 pound-feet of torque.

The thing weighs almost 7,000 pounds, almost as much as the Rivian R1T, but it also hits zero to 60 in all four feet. It has great straight-line power and has a range of about 260 miles on a full charge. But the thing is, and you probably already see where this is going, you've heard me talk about luxury sedans before. What more perfect vehicle could there be to go

electric

? If I want a luxury sedan, what do I want? I want it to be big, smooth, quiet and with plenty of space. And it will probably be heavy and expensive, but it comes with the territory.

More Interesting Facts About,

the electric rolls royce spectre is ridiculous...

This would be the quietest, smoothest, most spacious Rolls-Royce ever built. Rolls-Royce knows this too. They promised their entire range will be electric by 2030. So I feel like they were right. So they're starting with this one. This Specter is essentially a BMW i7 battery and motors underneath, but with the custom suspension and a Rolls-Royce on top, it's $500,000, and I'll get to the price in a minute. But even with everything we've gone through with this car, to me there's a pretty consistent theme running through the car pretty clearly. And that's smooth. This is the smoothest car you can buy, everything from the suspension, which I'll talk about in a second, to the way it drives, the super smooth steering, the seats you sit in, the leather and materials super soft.

Inside, the mats are incredibly soft lambswool. But even things like acceleration and deceleration are mapped to the pedal so they are super smooth and smooth. Everything complete, super soft. So let's get inside this Rolls-Royce because it's a Rolls-Royce and where else would you like to be? But also because it's very cold outside. I must start with this. You've seen Rolls-Royce before, right? The door opens from the front here and yeah, okay, we've seen this before. Let's get in, put your foot on the brake and as soon as you step on the brake, this door will close itself (door click) gently.

So this is a pretty iconic view simply because there's... You can't really see it when it's that bright, but the stars above me right now on the main sign. But the first thing you notice when you get into this car are great materials, high quality and also very soft. I'm sitting in a very, very soft leather seat. But even look at these things. (clinking sound) This spins so smoothly and smoothly. And if you want to stop the airflow, just press that. That is incredible. The way all the HVAC controls are set up, you can change the top and bottom temperature just by doing that.
I want it to be warm. So I'm over here. You can set the airflow to be super high or super soft. And then under the wood trim and everything, I don't know if you can appreciate this, but this carpet down here looks a little messy, but it's the softest carpet I've ever seen in a car. Supposedly it's lamb's wool. At least that's what it says on the options sheet but that's mild. But what's really special to me about this car is driving it, something you couldn't imagine in a gigantic Rolls-Royce like this. But three things. First, the suspension is incredibly soft.
In fact, they have one feature, so it is a special custom Rolls-Royce suspension. It is called a flat suspension system. Basically, it disengages the stabilizer bars when driving in a straight line. So each wheel acts independently. So when you're driving straight and one of the wheels hits a bump, the entire car doesn't float or wobble over it. It's just one wheel that hits or maybe the two wheels on the left side or something. It gives it that cloud ship feel. It really masks speed very well, just like the Maybach. You will have no idea how slow or how fast you are going.
You are floating as if you are on a cloud. Secondly, somehow even the acceleration and steering are smooth. I mean this is a gigantic steering wheel, a really big car, but it has rear steering wheels so you can move with agility. But this is one of the rare cars with over 500 horsepower that you never feel like you need to use or rev. You don't really feel inspired to go fast or anything like that. It's so soft. Acceleration and deceleration adjustment from the pedal is incredibly gradual, especially off the line. When you activate regenerative braking by pressing the bee pedal on this little stem here, when you release your foot from the brake, it basically stops a limousine.
It slows down to almost zero and then barely stops you. It's so soft. And then, of course, offline, the same thing. You can turn it off with a light, but you won't spin your tires and bang your head back. He doesn't want to do that. He wants to bring you to power and he's very good at it. And then three, last but not least, the most impressive part is that this is the quietest car I have ever sat in in my life. There is incredible silence in this cabin. Then you have windows that roll down and are thick double pane glass.
And you can hear there's a difference as soon as you roll down the window, all that outside noise. When you roll up all the windows, you're isolated in a cabin that feels truly impressive. There are apparently hundreds of pounds of noise-damping material in here. You can't hear the road, you don't even hear much wind. You can't hear the drivetrain. And if there are other cars around you, if there are trucks on the road, you just don't hear them. You can have quiet conversations at highway speeds in this car. There is so much silence. I have never driven a car so quiet.
It has 23 inch wheels. That should be impossible. That? This is not even an easy path. How is it so quiet? And there are speakers throughout the cabin of this car. It has this $11,000 custom speaker system and I'll get to the price in a second. But yes, it sounds fantastic, but it's not because it's an incredible $11,000 speaker system; It's because it's very quiet here, you can hear everything over the normal road noise, you hear more bass and sub-bass, you hear more instrument separation because you're in a very quiet room. Now, the rest of the driving experience can be treated as normal.
It has cameras around the car, which is nice. It has wireless CarPlay, which is great. It has a range of 260 miles. And in cold climates like this, it's actually closer to 200, maybe 190. But what I like is that it's very conservative with the range estimates. So if you say you can go 150 miles, you can actually go 150 miles and be comfortable with it. So it's kind of like Rivian in that sense. I think that's good. So, okay, I want to show you two things about the technology in this car that I didn't expect to be that great, but they actually are.
First of all, there are two screens up here. There's one in the middle, which is where your wireless CarPlay and normal built-in software can go. And there is also the screen behind the steering wheel. I don't love this one, especially since I don't love the power reserve where it counts down from 100 as you accelerate. I mean, anyway, this is the normal software screen and yeah, wireless CarPlay is cool and it's a touch screen and you can move around with this little dial here with the Spirit of Ecstasy to move through the software. So it's great that it works.
But the first thing that is interesting is that on this gigantic steering wheel there is a voice assistant button, which if you have CarPlay activated, will activate Siri. But if you don't, it will activate the car's built-in voice assistant, which is connected to the microphone just above your head or just above the passenger's head. And when you press it, it will allow you to change things like the music volume or the Bluetooth or whatever. And it worked, which is good. But the second thing is built into this technology here, and I go into this little menu.
Drive recorder. I wasn't expecting this, but you can go in and check all the cameras around the car and set up dash cam recordings from the moment you press the Record button. It will record before you hit, it will record after you hit. And you can always see what's going on around your car with pretty high quality and it stores it. It has all these different cameras around the car so you can keep track of what happened, an accident. I mean, with a car this expensive, I'd like to be able to see everything. So I'm glad you have that.
I did not expect that. Good job, Rolls-Royce. Now, I know you're not supposed to talk about options and pricing on a car like this because if you ask the question, you probably can't afford it. But this is a video and it's fun anyway, so let's do it because there are a lot of crazy prices with this car. First of all, the starting price is $420,000. That's already quite expensive. This car, MSRP, with options $540,000. So the car has almost $120,000 in options. Let's look at some of the highlights. So this gorgeous Barney, or I mean, sorry, twilight purple color.
Sorry, it has a lot of salt and it's not my fault. The roads seem crazy in New Jersey, but this purple here, it's a $13,100 paint job. And then this satin silver in the middle, because you've got this little two-tone look, a pretty signature Rolls-Royce look, but that satin silver is an extra $9,525. So these wheels here, they are the optional 23-inch wheels. They're a little bigger, they'll reach a little out of your reach, but you know, if they look cool and you like the seven-spoke model, you can get them for $10,675. And by the way, the fact that it rides so soft on 23-inch wheels with low-profile tires seems crazy to me.
Now, the familiar headliner stars come standard, thankfully free on the Rolls-Royce, but the starlight on the doors, well, it'll set you back an extra $13,300. It's worth it though. Now, this interior is quite serious and matches the exterior of the car a lot with this two-in-one appearance. the arctic white leather finish will set you back $5,975. And then the purple trim on the seat, yes, the purple trim, that's $4,800 more. And the purple stitching is a nice little detail that will set you back $2,500 more. But I think probably my favorite of all is the iconic Rolls-Royce umbrella that comes with every car.
That's free. And it's right here. If you haven't heard of it yet, all Rolls-Royces have this little umbrella on the door so you never have to get wet when you get out of your Rolls-Royce. But to get the umbrella canopy color in black, well, you'll have to pay $1,775 just for that. But I mean, if you're going to paint everything matte black, you might as well get the canopy black. That will cost you. So the list goes on. As I mentioned, $120,000 total in options on this car. And for that price, you could literally get another car. You could get a BMW i7 for that price, which is pretty funny.
But if you ask me, I'm no expert, but I still call this my favorite Rolls-Royce. Totally electric. Look at that, a nice little magnetization to get into your trunk with your charging cable. Put that down. Really nice trunk. Big and spacious car. And I like the taillights here. And I also like this little charging port on the right side. Open that big door. I wonder if they'll go from CCS to NACS at some point because that's the biggest complaint with this car: just 260 miles of range isn't huge. But at the end of the day, I really like what Doug DeMuro said about this car.
He also reviewed the Specter. And the difference between a regular luxury car and a $500,000 Rolls is that it's a higher level that takes a lot of extra money to get to. Like you don't need more than an S-Class. You don't need more luxury than a $100,000 electric car or any kind of luxury sedan, but if you want a real level above those standards, the price isn't simply linear. The price goes up like this. That's when you end up with this fake grill because it's electric but everything (metal tapping sound) that sounds so good, and the lambswool carpets, and the extreme level of soundproofing, and the incredibly quiet interior, and everything being so soft , This is how you level up by spending a little more.
So yeah, I will never buy a car like this, but I'm glad I experienced it because experiencing it is so much better than just seeing it on video. Actually, sitting in the car and driving at highway speed and whispering and being able to hear it is crazy. So I'm impressed. I'm impressed that they were able to pull all that off and sell it to real people. Maybe the next one will have a little more range andmaybe NACS. Anyway, that's all. Thanks for watching. See you at the next one. Peace.
