Mar 23, 2024
Hello everyone welcome to my channel Inspirational Joy my name is Jody and this is my husband John so John and I today are going to work on Aging some pots we have this pot here this base and then we have this

lamp

that I also have. used in another

styling

video on our entry table so we're going to age both of them so they look like they're in a primitive state with some browns and creams and different colors so it'll be up to John how he wants to make his and I'll do too mine my way and then at the end we'll compare and show that what we've done today is the

aging

effect and we'll walk you through that process and show you how we do it.

To start, let's do that now, we have some supplies. First I left some used paper bags that we had from shopping at the supermarket, so I'm reusing them and then I also picked them up at Hobby Lobby, this is called Crafters. The collection is these brushes so this one is would you say it's like a normal foreign brush so use whatever works for you you can also use a paper towel or if you put on gloves maybe your gloved hands too and Then I also took this? Texture paste for painting with dimensional decorative art effects and you can add dimension to paintable surfaces, great for stencils and mixed media applications, so I guess you painted.

I haven't used this before, but it creates a sort of elevated effect if you want something. from that you can also get the mod podge or use something else and I have another video where I made a bowl and I used paint and baking soda and coffee grounds and that was also great from my texture point of view now this one says it can be dyed with acrylics when wet or painted once dry and soap and monitor to clean, apply with a sponge brush or spatula, so I'll leave that to John. I think this

lamp

is textured quite well.

I like little ridges, but I'm good with mine, so yeah, this is pretty soft, yeah, I really want to play, so we might try some dimensional effect. I'll leave that to John, so between John and I we're going to do it and see. what it all looks like in the end, a little competition between us, now we have a fun little competition, for sure, and today is John's birthday, so it's an even more fun competition, so our colors that we have here we have a taupe intense, we have an oyster beige. we have terracotta, black and white, so mixing them together to see how they work, we will see what happens.

I picked up all the supplies I mentioned at Hobby Lobby and you can probably find them at any craft store. shop too now also once the base is done we have these different really cool artificial ones they're not actually real they're artificial these are the willows and then I bought them first they were 12.99 in the floral section at Hobby Lobby. and then this here doesn't say what kind of flower it would be, but it would be something like this, you know, it has little Pokey things. I'm not sure what they would be called, but it's cool too. like purple and blue, we will look for it.
We found some in some flowers I bought for Jody last winter and they are beautiful, they are a little blue, oh that's a good idea, yes, if we can find the name we have. I'll put that on the screen and then this came out really even, it looks like a piece of wood with some flower buds on it. I thought it was really pretty so we'll have to trim them with the wire cutters but this was 8.99 in the floral section so I think all three together one or two use them somewhere else use them together separately , but these are options for the base once we have everything done right, so with that being said, we'll go ahead and get started and walk you through our process, so now let's go ahead and put some paints in each of the little cells that we have and let's open our materials, so I'll put the paints here.
White, are you doing the role, terracotta, sometimes the role? The plate works better because you can get a larger area of paint, but it makes sense. I should put this first. Yeah, do you think that's probably a better idea? Start with that. Oh how pretty, you can dye it, but for now we'll just use white. Yeah, that's cool, so I can keep turning it at the top. Good point, you should use the top part and you can't do the top part too if you just want to do the bottom part and leave it or you know this can be. sporadic there too anyway, so what I'm doing is just going through and putting in an initial color to start with.
I have an inspiration item called the Decker table lamp. I'll put a photo here um of what I aspire to achieve and this new lamp costs 420 and what I bought on Amazon was just under 80. Alright, in our house we have a lot of things that our original art we also found in various places in our lives and We love those pieces and so making these things that we discovered unique to us, I think that's a really cool thing when you've been making some of these, that's a great point, yeah, yeah, well, it seems like something from the wonderful things that exist we also know that they are exclusive to our country, abroad, thank you hello everyone, so it's the next day.
John and I spent the night putting this aside and spending time with our family to celebrate John's birthday, so now onto the next one. The day has come. I want to share with you an update on where we are with this project. It won't take them two days. We spaced it out throughout the day yesterday and then a little bit this morning we'll finish it here and just. I wanted to give you an update on where we are, so John finished his. I thought it turned out extremely well. He was super excited and when he finished it, he used this, you know, the white and beige surface before using this Deco art dimensional effect product.
He painted that, um, you know, dipped it here and there he created a raised effect, let it dry outside in the sun and it hardened on the surface and then he went over it with gray and white paints and created this. Stunning color and effect. He made the inside up to here on the inside, so when you look at it with the flowers it doesn't look completely white until you get to the rounder part of the inside, so he did a great job, I thought, and we cut them up a little bit. . I did it. I folded this back because I didn't want to cut it all the way, so I have three different pieces here, we have the prickly ones here, this one here and then this one. here, these three here I bought several times at Hobby Lobby and the bottle again, the base came from Big Lots, so one is already made and again he did a great job and I'll show you a couple of photos in this video of how he did it.
I designed using the base, how I designed the

vase

and it turned out amazing, so regarding the lamp base, I'm still finishing this one here and I'm going to finish it here on camera and then I'll show it to you when it's complete and stylish. You'll see it down here at the base. I've been adding some terracotta color just to give it some dimension. I wanted to get away from all gray, all brown, all black, so I'm also trying to add some of this other dimension, it's terracotta, just a little bit here and there, kind of a mix and it's really just going in and adding little bits and I come back. with a paper towel and mix it. with the existing just a dry paper towel mixing it here and there a little bit more gray, you don't really want any color, forgive me for being prominent, so I'm over these here and you can use a paper towel or something else.
To trace it or place it in your container, you don't want to leave big streaks, big spots, big paint elements anywhere. I just want to check it out and rub it while you're at it. This is what I found, well, Ness. I'll do a little bit more up here. I want it to look natural and not brushed on, so you got to work very quickly once you put some paint on and continued until you got the effect you want and the colors. that you want this one to have a little more white than I want there.
I'm a little gray thank you foreigner foreigner so I'm done with the painting. I think it turned out surprisingly well. My first attempt at doing it with a lamp base. I think the colors, sorry, turned out well. I have some terracotta orange, greys, some black infused here and a bit of grey, white and taupe, so I think overall it turned out great. I'm going to go ahead and style our entryway table let's take a look okay foreigner so we're here in the entryway foyer and let me show you the table and how I styled it with the lamp so this is where I made John's face.
I made it yesterday and I thought it looked just fantastic if I come back here with the picture above and the other accessories that I put there and then here's the lamp and let me show it to you without the light in different colors. I think it just worked out. How cool and I'm very excited to have a more aged look for this land base in this entry slot on this table, very excited with the result, so I hope you enjoyed watching this video.
