Apr 29, 2024
With so many

brand

s of ppf out there you're probably wondering

which

one you

should

get so we have four main competitors and we're going to find out what they can handle so for this video we're going to

test

four

brand

s that we have. avery here's tech 3m and xbell and you've probably heard of a lot of these brands and they're all very similar but they have different features so let's go over them real quick. 3m and expo will probably be the most popular, but Esteg is one of the newer ones and Avery just released the ppf for it.

These two right here, actually, one of the things that sets them a

part

is that they actually have a hydrophobic coating on the top,

which

means it can withstand certain things like um. like bird droppings and insect guts and things that are liquid, so they don't have that top layer like they do here. Think of this as a temporary ceramic coating on these two, so we're going to do four types of

test

s and the first one is going to be a Sharpie test and this is liquid, so this represents like bug guts or bird droppings and things like that. , the next thing we're going to do is we're going to try to replicate rock fragments and we like to hit or I guess like a screwdriver and we're going to stab it and then the next thing we're going to do is, unfortunately, Tesla cars are sometimes prone to crashing, so that we have a key right here. beautiful key and we'll go over it both three more times and lastly we have the brush and this represents scratches over time because what all of these do is they have the ability to sense the cells so when you add heat or the sun hits it on It really heals over time, they all have amazing clarity, they are all really good products, so this video is not about which one is the best, it depends on the installer and what you have access to, so let's get right to it.

More Interesting Facts About,

which ppf brand should you get for your tesla durability test part 1 tesbros...

We're going to put two lines, actually we're just going to put one line on each of them, we're going to let it sit for a little while and then we're going to use different ones, like our waterless wash, rubbing it in a little bit. alcohol just to see if it stays or stains well so let's move on with expelling, nice line ok I might be wrong but 3m might have a hydrophobic property so it's been a little over a minute. and we actually put the permanent marker stripe on and we noticed that it already had hydrofluid properties at 3m and I looked at the spec sheet and it has a top coat that is hydrophobic so I corrected myself so you can see right away. from afar you see a difference this is a super streak i mean it just goes all the way through this one just a little bit um sharp on st is the same and avery is like right middle so this is like the medium darker and then very, very little, so I'm going to get this beautiful microfiber, I'm going to ruin it with permanent marker and first we're going to test it with our waterless wash, so we're going to try Excel and I'm just going to let it soak in all of them just for a couple of seconds and then we'll see if we can get rid of this permanent marker so let's move on so I'm really rubbing this right now like really, really hard and it does. it comes off, but you can see immediately that it left that stain, so I'm going to do this with 3m now the same thing using a different

part

of the microfiber and you can see significantly, I mean it doesn't stay on so you can still see.

However there is a little streak so you know and then in the technology it actually comes out very very easy with much less force and the avery also has hydrophobic but it is very similar to push it out it takes quite a bit of force to reach. At least I like the main thing so you can see the results, so the other thing I'm going to do is say, "Okay, can you guys still come out?", so I'm just going to use a little bit. harsher chemical just seven percent uh isopropyl alcohol and I'm going to see if it comes out and you can see it comes out for the most part um I don't know if you can see it here but it's a little bit there so maybe if I rub a little harder it will work.

I'm going to do the same thing with the 3m and then as a technician, you can actually see a little bit, but I can already tell the difference when I slide, it's a lot smoother on this one. just because it has that hydrophobic property and then I want to do it with avery as well, lastly let me move on, so avery was quite difficult, it was surprising, the expulsion of the alcohol man came out very, very easily, you can still see a line, but in most of it, most of it is outside. I have to put another one in, I guess, like a lot of alcohol to get it out.
Oh, sorry, I mean you could see the result. I'm going to conclude that I'm very impressed with all of them, although I mean the fact that this is supposed to be very, very smudged, I mean, it smudges everything well, that's what's called permanent marker, so the fact that Everything coming out for the most part is promising for all four, the next test will be the screwdriver test. and again, this represents rock fragments and other debris that accumulates on it, so what I'm going to do is make five of a pretty decent size and I want to do it on top just so I can save the other one. part from other damage, so let's start with the exposure, oh, this is painful, okay, so I put a good amount of force on it and right now you can see there are definitely circles right there.
I might make it a little harder this time just to be more aggressive, but let's try this again. Okay, it's definitely a lot more aggressive. You can obviously see some dents here, so the real test will be when we peel off the film and see how it really works. Below that, unfortunately, Teslas tend to get keyed quite frequently. You see it on Reddit and forums and stuff, so let's try to replicate that and see what kind of impact it has. I think we actually need a sharper key. so we have this sharper key here, you have that advantage, so let's go ahead and try to use this one, so, oh, that hurts to do that.
Lastly, we're going to replicate, I guess, the scratches over time and we're I'm going to use this metal brush and we're going to do it on this top corner and then I'm going to heat it up right away to show you the feelability of the cells. I painted correctly, that fast, I only did one pass. To get it clean, underneath it

should

be pretty clean, so we'll start ejecting again. I'm going to do some of these and you can see the scratches right there, so this is a little dirty. Sorry, you could also see the scratches right there, you can see the scratches here, it's very hard to see, but I hope you guys can see it and you can see the scratches right there, so now let's get the heat gun right away.
So you can see most of that is gone, the scratches it had here and then we'll go over the 3m here and the scratches we had. Yes, the scratches disappeared here too. I'm going to say, amazing label. actually all of them are gone too and then let's check lastly yeah for the most part all the micro scratches that were on all of them healed right away so hopefully you'll get it on the top chamber but if you don't um. You can have my word that the whole sound sensation worked very, very well, so now, the part you guys were waiting for, did all these movies really hold up?
Is it worth protecting

your

car with any of these films? Let's peel it back, we'll leave the names here so you can see what was there. Let's start with the exposition. This actually left some adhesive on Avery and then none of the others left adhesive glue so let's talk about the results that you couldn't see in the expo right here, I mean man I was very aggressive in that writing and yeah there are some scratches here and here and then the screwdriver hit before, but it didn't actually go through the paper if Watch the actual film here, this looks really aggressive and it protected at least a good amount of at least half of that because I actually went up to the end, like that full stroke, 3m here, honestly, that inlay is super impressive.
I don't actually see any kings and of course none of them have permanent markers so it doesn't bleed into any of them. You can see that there's actually no key marks here and then you can also see the same thing as ejecting, you took the hits that were pretty aggressive when we used the screwdriver. um you also got the x s-tec there are some king scratches here and some of those dings as well that were very aggressive so I was hoping that it wouldn't necessarily go completely over but it would definitely have some dents like that.
I mean, if I did it directly, this is painful. Let me try it, it's similar. I guess I don't know if I did it that way. hard, okay, I'll go, it just sucks, I don't want to do it on this bumper, okay, that was hard, right, so I did it without any of the film and you could see it right here, that's how it was. through a little bit deeper, so honestly, the film provides that barrier that protects it from, you know, what would be some kind of rock chip or something that's blunt and a direct point right on the bumper, so We finally got to talking again. over the stack, it went a little bit but very, very good and then I'm going to clean this up again.
This is the only movie that isn't really sure what happened there. You can see it has the same forceful, very, very. Honestly, they're similar across the board, they're the same as far as coding, there's actually a line here, but it didn't really like going through the paint chip, so yeah, it created a line right here and you can see. They all do what they are advertised to protect

your

vehicle from all of these things. It's up to you to choose which one you think was the best. It's not really our place to tell you that, but we just wanted to show you. some of that

durability

and how we can replicate some of the real life situations that a ppf can withstand, so I hope the video was helpful to you.
