More Interesting Facts About,

sunday morning service 9 30am june 6 2021...

When his family heard it, they came out to restrain him because the people were saying that he had gone crazy and the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said that he had a beelzebub and because of the other ruler of the demons cast out demons and called them and spoke to them in parables how can satan cast out satan if a kingdom is divided against itself that kingdom cannot stand and if a house is divided against itself that house will not be able to stand and if satan has risen against itself and is divided it cannot stand but its end has come but no one can enter the house of a strong man and plunder his property without first tying up the strong man, then indeed the house can be plundered, truly I tell you that the People will be forgiven for their sins and for any blasphemy they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the holy spirit will never have it. sorry but he is guilty of an eternal sin because they had said that he had an unclean spirit so his mother and his brothers came and while they were outside they sent to call him and a crowd was sitting around him and they said to him your mother and your brothers. and sisters are outside asking about you he answered who are my brother and my brothers and looking at those who sat around him he said here are my mother and my brothers the one who does the will of God is my brother and my sister and my mother the gospel of the lord, praise you lord christ, come holy spirit, come among us, stir our hearts and guide us to love.
sunday morning service 9 30am june 6 2021
Amen, please sit before the best counsel of all the people who have provided good guidance to the people of Israel in the time of growing wisdom about what was good for them as a people? What was good for them as an emerging nation? The people of Israel faced the question and answered no. We are determined to have a king who will make us like other nations. We are determined to have a king. There is something about the paradox in today's lessons that really makes me curious. Often when we think about the life and ministry of Jesus, when we think about the people of Israel, the elect upon whom God shows favor, we assume that there must be everything.
sunday morning service 9 30am june 6 2021
It is good that everything they do, think or say is categorically correct, something that each of us can look at and emulate, that we can try some of these things for ourselves and, if we did, we would be better people in life and work. ministry. Of Jesus and the people who follow Jesus, therefore, it must be quite simple of love, so how do we make sense of today's stories? So they certainly don't seem to be that, today we find a particular portion of the gospel of Mark that shows us a moment in Jesus' ministry that is coming to an end we all know where Jesus' life is going we know where the ministry is going and we know that is not what everyone around you would be expecting.
We hope that in our lives there are people who come to our side whose job it is to love and support our work to push us to become bigger and better versions of ourselves and that It is a lesson that each of us seeks in our lives, whether we admit it or not. determined to have a king so we can be like the other nations. What are the things in our lives that we place in the role of king? What are the things in our lives that push us towards something new, something different, something better and by extension convince us that what we were already making the person we already were was something that was not good or perhaps not sufficient in preparation For today's sermon I realized that while I was looking at these texts I was not in this moment.
There was a priest standing in front of you. In fact, he was a little boy in rural Louisiana waiting to go to church at a Southern Baptist church with a family that took me there every time the door opened. That wasn't just on Sundays, friends, but on Wednesdays. that was something on Monday that was Sunday

morning

Sunday night maybe there were some other things during the week that always brought me back we were always there we heard stories of a Jesus who called us to action a Jesus who called us to action called to the work of reconciling sin in the world at that particular time in my life we were actually soldiers of christ we were sent to find evil and sin in the world and to tell the truth with a capital t, that sometimes meant that We were telling people we loved very painful things which meant that sometimes for a child like me he told me things that hurt.
We are determined to have a king. When I was a child, the most important thing to me was the approval of my family, my church, my parents. friends I desperately wanted to be everything people would dream for me everything they told me was important in life here's the problem I was a precocious child I just had questions for everyone including the questions our pastor often asked me calling in front of the entire church questions that left me in a place of deep doubt I remember in my faith the moment I was called to follow Jesus is the moment we would consider being born again in my religion of origin a moment where whites- with my knuckles gripping the pew I could hear the pastor say as the choir sings one more verse.
You will not come? Won't you come and confess? I remember letting go of that pew and walking scared to the front of the church. and tell this pastor that I wanted to follow Jesus that I wanted to give away the things that I thought I needed and just follow Jesus we said a prayer that I couldn't tell you what was said today for the life of me but I remember the words I said when I got back to the pew from there my mother my sister my father my brother my grandparents at that time they were still alive standing in a row on the bench that we had sat on for years and the first thing I said was now we can go to heaven together I did it we are determined to have a king At that time in my life I couldn't tell you what I really believed.
With reflection I can tell you what motivated me to go to the altar. It wasn't believing. It was fear. It wasn't acceptance. It was rejection. It was me being so desperate to be like everyone else that I was willing. to give everything we feel a piece of that story today in the gospel of mark we imagine that through the life of jesus everyone would surround him in support of that ministry and, however, today we find three different groups, first is the crowd, the crowd we hear about 14 different times in Mark's gospel, this time the crowd with so much pressing need, so much desire to be close. to jesus to be helped by jesus who are crowding so much that he and his wayward followers can't even finish their lunch then we meet the scribes scribes who were so convinced of what was right and what was wrong, what was right and what they didn't was that they drove all the way from Jerusalem just to let Jesus know that what he was saying was wrong and that he had to stop, then there was that third portion of the crowd, the people who were put into Jesus' life.
Jesus as his. family, the only job they had to do was love Jesus to support Jesus and push him forward in his ministry and what did they say when they showed up, he's crazy, let's get him out of here, come with us, Jesus, how do we make sense of it? those different multitudes today the words in first samuel sound again we are determined to have a king each of us has these things in our lives whether we want to admit them out loud or not things that drive us to become something other than what god called to be each of us at our birth affirmed again right here at our baptism carry the spirit of god moving wildly in our lives the only thing we have to do is accept that as good as what god calls us to show in the world a love that can never be stopped, but we are determined, determined to believe the things that others tell us, we must be determined to dress how people tell us to dress, determined to be skinnier, we are less fat, determined to be more heterosexual, we are less homosexual, determined to be more loving, more tolerant or less than what God called us to be because we are determined, we believe that if we can achieve those things that others tell us for our lives, we will have acceptance, acceptance of the crowd needed, acceptance of scholars. those who tell us what is right and wrong acceptance by the families who are called to love us jesus in the face of this trauma today he sees his family outside effectively saying this has to stop it is not enough come with us get out of this place the crowd worried about this because they know that family must be love call again to jesus jesus your family is outside your mother and your brothers and your sisters are calling you jesus look at the crowd look at the need that is insurmountable and say here they are my mother here it is my brother here is my sister here is my father this is where we are called today not to expectations that are unreasonable in our world not to the neatness that our Instagram or Facebook would tell us is necessary not to the amazing programs that will restore vitality to the world we are called as a church to the destroyed places and there to build the kingdom of god there to offer forgiveness an interesting word in our gospel today forgiveness that we often think of as someone who says it's okay that you don't I have to worry for this thing you did to hurt me, but in its original Greek form this word today is more closely linked to being set free.
It is interesting that Jesus does not tell people that they must stop sinning or stop blaspheming in order to be forgiven. Be free Jesus simply says those who sin, those who blaspheme will be freed and those who blaspheme against the spirit, that is, those who deny God, moving wildly through everything we encounter, those people will never be free today and every day, but perhaps the most Importantly, during this pride month, each of us is asked to look in the mirror to see the faces of those whom God has brought to us in the overwhelming multitude of need and to say: you are my mother, you are my brother, you are my sister, that is the only love that God asks of us and that love has the ability to change the lives of people who feel pushed to the limit, people who feel like they have nowhere to go, lack of acceptance to find that is the gift that each of us can give each and every day in addition to the uh listen to our prayers listen to our prayer listen to our prayer listen to our prayer you pray for carol you are our prayer pray for jack and jia and those who They love and care for you brothers and sisters listen to our prayer church amen almighty god you sent your son to bring us the truth and your spirit to make us holy open our hearts to exalt you open our lives to reveal to you our only true god father son and holy spirit amen peace of the Lord to always be with youI invite you to show each other a sign of God's peace good morning God's peace be upon you all I cannot tell you how exciting it is to look from my seat every Sunday and see more and more people coming in This place is a great joy and I remember that every day things feel a little more normal in our world and that is certainly true in the church as well.
It's a great gift to have you all here. There are so many things happening.
