Apr 06, 2024
movies with him um it's eluding me right now John Rucker John Ryder yeah I love his energy um I love his now I want to see how he's going to approach Canal because I've seen people fight other people with energy but when they get a Cornelius ring stays in office or yes, you know it doesn't, keep what he brought. You get to that point, you know, that's what I believe in, yeah, again, I'm not going to fight, no, no, that's what it has to be, but I've seen Ryder accompany people, it'll be interesting to see if can accompany Canelo.

Because if he can walk he's a bad guy. Man, if he can beat Canelo, brother, you know what I'm going to be honest with you. I love the energy of Riders. I love that he's a compact build guy, punches and punches, yes, but Canelo can do the same thing as him, although yes, yes. I don't know if Canelo is like the second worst if he is who he was two or three years ago when he got in the ring he overwhelmed you he knocked you down and then he took you out I don't know if I don't have that kind of energy any

, it's funny you said that about that John Ryder has great energy and, like you said, he throws punches and punches.

I agree with that 100, but I'm curious, I don't know if and it's like it's double. That's really not what I care about being any

. I will do whatever it takes to get the job done. I'll try to take you down, but at the end of the day I'm there to win, get my paycheck and go home. I'm not saying that Canelo no longer cares about entertaining. I'm not saying that Canelo doesn't care about winning anymore. I just think his method of winning two or three years ago was, "I'm going to take you down." I'm going to pressure you and there's nothing you can do about it.

I don't know if he already has that mentality, so I'm interested to see what Canelo we have in the ring and the other side of what he was going to say. He's fighting Guadalajara, so he's at home and whatever energy he doesn't have, whatever mentality he doesn't want, the energy of the crowd will give it all to him, you know, I mean, I think it's going to be an interesting fight. for Canelo at home, I don't know how many times he has fought at home in Guadalajara, but I think this is more. I think you all know that we hope to take care of business.

I just think it will be interesting to see. how he does it and I want to go on the record for saying this um when I saw the fight against Triple G I said Canelo is not the same guy anymore because he was not impressed with that fighter, if he was, he would have been. I mean, like he was talking and he would have gone there and done what we know he should do. I think that's probably the most we've seen him talk and probably the first time we didn't see him back it up, I think even with b-ball, he tried to back it up, he tried, he tried to get the job done and then, but I think ultimately He found that brick wall and said, "I'm not going to walk through it tonight, but triple GM is how he did it." I didn't want to, I didn't want to give anything away, you know, so I'm very curious.
I want to state for the record that I don't think Canelo is who he was two or three years ago, where he was. literally living the pound for pound world champion lifestyle of up and down and crushing. I don't think he's that person. I think if Ryder becomes his second brick wall, like the default is the first brick wall. I think if a writer becomes a secondary Paul, I think the Canelo we saw all these years will become human. I don't think I thought you were going to say different, no, no, but don't forget he's home, so that's what makes it that's what's going to make it work, you see, but you see the brick wall, it's like If I couldn't let my people see me, not go through this brick wall, if he falls against a brick wall at home, the question will be starts to really rise, yeah, it's over, is it him, isn't it?
I wouldn't look at this the way he did it, but the way he did it, he did it at the elite level, yeah, I have a theory about Canelo and I'm not going to reveal it. that theory right now when the time comes I have some documents uh that are already drafted that will be prepared that I have prepared you're supposed to rub your hand like this guy you know I'm not I'm not the malicious guy you know I mean I'm , I'm um, I'm authentic and I'll let you know when the time is right, yeah, yeah, look, now I'll call you later.
What were you talking about? hey, we'll see what happens after this fight, let's see what happens after this fight, this could be the one where he just pulls out the paperwork like yeah, it's here, but like I told you, how he said it was amazing, yeah, yeah, yeah , said. Hey man, so this is the part and I told you that at the end of each episode we leave some motivation for the fans. This is important because I had several people come up to me and tell me I was over them. In a difficult time, several people came up to me and said if it wasn't for your podcast, I don't know where I would be and it's mind-blowing, but at the same time it's like no, that's what God had. you do it all the time, all the time, you know what I mean, so motivation for people, okay, this is going to be very easy, okay, oh, right, I want to, I want to read that real quick, you know What I'm talking about, you know? what I'm talking about so we had a fan real quick and then we'll finish this uh we had a fan leave a message on our um was Discord something like that?
Yes, we have a fan who left a message on our Discord, we have a Discord, what is tpwp? Something like that. God willing, you're not helping me. Put it in the show notes. Hey, you have to do all these edits too. So, we had a fan who left this message and I. I thought it was very profound what he said, so I read the first one and then I'll answer the question he presented to me and I'll read the second one and show him some love, so James O'hagen, uh, said, anyone? as a

tank

they have to think deliberately when making adjustments, it's a great question to ask a lot of people.
I can read this, so go ahead and read it, but he went on to say that he's seen that in Chess Masters chess you basically don't have to think, once you make a move you know what's going to happen and you're ready for your next move. movement and that's how it gets to the boxing ring, in the boxing ring you go through so many different combinations, depending on who your training is, who your coach is, of course you go through so many different scenarios of countering this punch and the counterattacking. to this counterattack is throwing this punch and sliding to the left throw this punch and sliding to the right and what's the return you do it so repetitively that it literally becomes second nature where the first thought is this is what I'm going to do so that's what he's going to do and then he's just going to and then he's just going to go and then yeah, I think um

tank

Davis is the type of fighter nowadays, he doesn't really have to think much, I think he gets a lot out of his corner. and his Corner can tell you something you may not have seen, but I think at this point they've worked together for so long that they already know a lot of things and even though Coach Cal comes to the ring, I always found him interesting. that when Mayweather fought, no one came in the ring, he just came back, that's right, he said he sat there, maybe he heard or not, but he listened, he shook his head and he knew what he was going to do and he came back out and did what had to do, Tank Davis is a lot like that where there's not much he really needs to say because he thinks a lot and does a lot in the ring and analyzes and calculates everything which is so repetitive that he doesn't have to think and I like to say that the second nature becomes your second nature where things are just happening and you already know those adjustments and they are being made without you literally having to think about what is happening and when you think too much, especially in the boxing ring, do you hesitate or think wrong and you make the wrong move and the worst can happen, you know what I mean, sometimes you just think too much and miss those openings, you know, so I think a lot.
Fighters can relate to what I'm saying now and can also attest that we've done this so many times and that's why I said tank, I said you can get in the ring, you can move. In the ring with my eyes closed, people have seen me catch gloves with my dad blindfolded it's because we've done it together for so long and I know the ring so much that we would work out and then I would take off the blindfold before open the eyes. I was trying to guess which corner I was in and sometimes I was right, sometimes I was wrong, sometimes I was like I don't remember he did this. moves that move, but he's so intuitive and that's how we get there, so yeah, I think he's an extremely intelligent fighter and I think his intelligence also comes from his upbringing and it's all he's put his energy into, you know, let me read. the other side of that too because it had another explanation.
I saw him start to, you know, talk about himself near the end, but I wanted to show him some love, so this is the same, oh no, you, you, put. all together eh uh said oh yeah, this was I guess it seemed strange to hear Eddie Herm say that the tank doesn't believe that's not a fact, I mean, you don't have it and you're trying to get something from it even. although you don't have it, you know, that's just hate right there, but if anything, the tank doesn't seem to think too much about things like, say, Joshua because it seems to know what the right settings are and it doesn't try to discount internalized training either, that's what it's like to say, it's internalized training along with him being who he is as a wrestler, but um and split decision making between athletes, I think he probably picks up on coaches' corrections, etc., much quicker, exactly, it's part of the reason they're so good and it's a different kind of intelligence I always have trouble picking up on more subtle things in football, cutting through my life, learning to play in central field, uh, midfield roles and my coaches always placed me in those ranks because I had decent passing accuracy and technical skills.
This is where you start talking about yourself, but I salute you, man, thanks for this question, this was really, really, this was really really good and, uh, but I'm not going to read the rest, but thanks for that question, I really appreciate it. the thought processes that you brought to me because I'm, I'm looking, I know what I'm looking at, I'm looking at a kid who knows what he wants to do and uh, I think in the second round after after that second round, even before the fall, they knew they had them, you know, great fight, let's move on from Saint Davis and Ryan Garcia we hope to see Tank in great fights, not who will beat him, that's not what this game is. about this, this game is about greatness, this game is about art, you know, I mean math, it's a lot of ABC one, two, three and if you do it right, you only need one, two and three to beat someone .
If you are so good. I know, I think it'll be great to see Tank moving forward. Yes, he is the face of boxing. I think we had two and now we're down to one. I would love to see him expand his brand and make it bigger. Better things get great business deals. I think he deserves it all, of course. I think it's about his team putting him in the right position to get those things and I hope to have Tank on this show, of course. I tried. to buy you all the time I can so you can get more Nation well, I have a lot of motivation, I like that, I like that, first of all, I'll say it this way, being in this interview is part of my motivation because, as I told you before, Before I moved from the Maryland area to Las Vegas, the last Pay-Per-View fight party I attended was a fight that you were now involved in.
I've always loved the fighting game. I loved everything about the fighting game. I'm learning more things about the fighting game that I didn't know because I was just a fan my whole life and that said there's nothing anyone can achieve if you don't believe in yourself. I didn't go to school for journalism or anything like that and uh, but I'm here, you know what I'm saying, I watch, I joke with people and I'm like, you know, I used to pay good money to go to fights or pay. good money for PPV, but now I get paid to go to fights and the personalities I meet not only because they are famous, not because they were star champions, but I got to meet good people like you and a couple more. people that's just great bros and um again I'm living a dream within a dream you know what I'm saying yeah even being hit for being here for me this interview today was full circle for me because again, the last article that I never when I moved to Las Vegas, I had nothing to do with boxing, I mean, I have nothing to do with boxing, but the last Pay-Per-View fight I watched was yours and now I'm here on your show, yeah, and we're talking about something.
I love something that you did and you did it well at a high level so at the end of the day I just believe who you are and what you stand for like there's nothing like I don't want to sound like you know Captain Crunch well nothing can. you know nothing can stop you you know, but really you know everything is realistic uh you can really achieve things that make you happy you can really achieve things that make you whole you know what I'm saying I love Las Vegas I love boxing uh I love my family you know What I'm saying, yeah, and it's one more thing I had to say, sure, this last thing I had to say and I'm not going to go into that, but the last thing I have to say is to all the voters in the Hall of Fame.Fame, people put Mr.
David Jacobs in a good light, he is supposed to be Mr. David Jacobs, he is supposed to be in the Hall of Fame, the people who know.Know his worth Know his record Know his contributions to boxing People who don't know I challenge you to Google them and see the people they work with to lift the tank. I mean, I have the tanks. uh Tysons and etcetera, this man is a real man, he is a true champion as a trainer and he has touched many lives, so old school trainer, yes, from DC, yes, his son is training now, yes, big hold , he shouts, big hold, yes, big. clean, that's my man, I think I had a chance to meet him, clean, yeah, yeah, so what I'm saying is uh, what I'm saying is uh, um, the training part about that and I know we got to time, but um, The training part about that always goes unnoticed and I use my dad as an example.
My dad at a world championship level has only been seen with me, so I don't think he gets the credit. that many other trainers who work with various fighters or have worked with fighters who were not his children, he does not receive the type of credit that those trainers receive, but my dad, my dad, can do the business and my dad can do it. he. training my dad can do the conditioning and my dad can do the nutrition my dad can do now I can't say that, but I want to say that they are four things that a lot of trainers specialize in, maybe one or two of them and my dad specializes in all four, my dad is a manager and a trainer, a lot of trainers don't know the administrative side, they don't know the business side, you know, a lot of trainers don't know the nutritional side, that's why a lot of Fighters go out and look for nutritionists and dieticians and things like that. my dad is well educated my dad is well versed in these contracts and the list goes on and then from one point of view you just know how to push yourself and get things out of you that you never knew who was there yeah my dad has it all but very much like Jacob, you know, my dad is one of the few wrestlers who, or one of the few coaches, because he only worked with his son, that's where his credit is.
It starts and stops you know, but eventually my dad will be there too, listen like you said forever, he's been on the radar, yeah, it's time for a change. I like it. It's going to change somewhere. Hopefully this can spark some change and then create. There are many other changes but you need to give these trainers their fair share because trainers can spend more time in the gym than fighters because I have seen trainers train a fighter and then he goes on and runs and go home and he will receive next one you know what I'm saying so shout out again Palmer Park Landover we're here yeah Jacob's family I'm traveling for you all you all know what love is and then motivation.
I because I mentioned it and I don't even know why I mentioned it, but something we talked about in that roundtable that he talked about, he talked about two things, he talked about mentoring and he also talked about. about when he talked about tutoring, I took it a different way, I said, hey, you know, it's a lost art, you know a lot of people, a lot of these little kids are becoming very different now than they used to be and I'm not a product of the streets at all, my dad, for the sake of words, is a product of the streets, but he wasn't on the streets doing anything stupid, you know, I mean, my dad was on the streets because he just it had to be him.
If my dad was fighting for his life, you know, I mean, my dad understood the streets and he didn't want me to be a part of it, but my dad was always trying to kick my game and always trying to get me around people who would They were kicking the game and I didn't really get it all the time and I didn't even want it all the time, but the kind of person I am was like I couldn't help but get it, but I see the what a lot of these young people are getting and now these Young men and women are getting it, now they're getting it so fast that they don't need a brain to, you know, pull that coattail like they would, like they used to say and get the game or put on that coattail and get that knowledge of that wisdom. get that help find someone a little older than you find someone with a little more knowledge then you find someone with some wisdom who can help you through some of these things that you're dealing with absolutely because eventually you'll get so much money that you won't you'll know what to do with it, you won't pay taxes to them, whatever they are, find someone who can give you the game because along the way If you don't understand that game, you'll get to a point where you'll say, "I don't know what to do." You had opportunities to take advantage of them, so continue on your path to do what you want to do. life, make sure there are other people there guiding you, this is the portal
