Apple Watch Ultra 8 Months Later

Mar 12, 2024
Um, if there's something you want to see specifically in the video, I'm going to put chapter markers in the video so you can jump to where you want to be, but obviously the intent and goal is for the entire video. To make it fun, enjoy it and let's get into the video. The Apple Watch Ultra 2022 is ultimately the Apple Watch I've wanted Apple to make since 2015. And by that I simply mean a larger

watch

overall, I'm obviously not the intended market, but I'm also someone looking for a bigger

watch

that doesn't want to move away from the Apple Watch ecosystem.

The purpose of the video is to document my experiences with the Apple Watch Ultra since its release in September 2022. So, first and foremost, what I want. What you need to do is review the common features found in each of the Apple Watches, which is the system in a CPU package that is found in each of the Apple Watches, so we are on the S8 series of the CPU that we always have on display in most. of the actual line, with the exception of the Apple Watch SE, you have a glass cover on the base of the aluminum Apple Watch along with an aluminum body, then you have the steel body along with a sapphire cover on the display and finally you have the Apple Watch.

More Interesting Facts About,

Look at Ultra, a 49 millimeter always on display ltp with a sapphire cover and then each of the Apple Watches features a ceramic cover on the back of the watch that covers all the sensors and just adds that extra protective ceramic that historically it knows that it is a little more resistant. The material is a more break-resistant material along with the sapphire covers, which is why they use it especially in all Apple watches, which distinguishes the

ultra

from the rest of the line. Obviously, in addition to the titanium body, you have a couple of additional accessories. sensors, so first of all, it has a depth sensor for divers, it has additional GPS radios for precise location determination, a water temperature sensor, louder speakers for the siren function and a couple of dials exclusive

ultra

watches that can change color, specifically international orange and then if you turn the dial, you can get a red color on the custom Ultra watch face.

Now, the way I've used the Apple Watch for the last five

months

is not exactly the way Apple markets the Apple Watch Ultra, all of the marketing materials, even on their website are aimed at extreme sports climbers, You know, extreme weather, surfing and climbing, all those fun things that I don't necessarily do. I've used the watch primarily and you know it to get notifications because you know I work nine to eight. five, so my job is not necessarily an extreme sport, sometimes it seems that way, but in any case, I have not used the Apple Watch Ultra as intended, but the Apple Watch Ultra as it is made is particularly perfect for me and for me.

I'll explain why now, of all the features, it is geared towards extreme sports. For me, there are no extreme sports. I mainly just play basketball on Sunday mornings. I'm a father of three and then I work nine to five, so you know, those are extremes. sports I don't hike, I don't necessarily run anymore, I just play basketball on Sunday mornings, that's my cardio and then lifting my calves, uh, I can really get a good workout, you know, get your heart rate up a little bit, now what I really do. I want to talk about some of my favorite features of the Apple Watch Ultra, the first of those features is the 49 millimeter screen.
Now you know if you've been following the Apple Watch or if you're a new user of the very basic Apple Watch since the first one in 2015 that came with 42 millimeters at its largest and a 40 millimeter watch or case and, honestly, 42 millimeters for I was a little comically small on my wrist. I'm a bigger guy. m six four hundred pounds um so to me a normal size iPhone seems small a normal size Apple watch 42 millimeters 44 millimeters now 45 millimeters seems comically small so for me getting a bigger watch was important just because of what I wanted on a watch just a bigger watch to make it look appropriate for my wrists, you know, and everyone has their own, you know, private tasters, people who want giant watches, that's not me.
I just want a watch that looks appropriate for my wrist. Now the screen is 2000 nits, it is very bright. the brightest

apple

watch ever released it's an extremely sharp screen it's a ltpo um screen so it's always on it's a low temperature OLED polymer I think that's what it means but overall you know you don't have to worry for burn in or something like that, it's a very low refresh rate on the screen when it's in always on mode, but overall that screen is bright, it's vivid, the colors look great and then I love the watch faces that really feature that international Internet orange color.
Now one last thing about the Apple Watch display is that I was going from a series 4 to a series seven, the series 4 didn't have the always-on display and I think for me and my particular use cases the always-on display was key . You know when you're in meetings you can glance at your watch at that moment or you can see the notifications coming in without giving a signal to everyone around you saying I'm not listening to you or I'm not paying attention to you. I'm either trying to rush you or ignore you, so always on display was kind of a clutch for me and something I really wanted, but again and always on display in series 5 didn't warrant me upgrading just for that specifically now.
Again, going from a series 4 to a series seven, there were all these new features, new sensors and things of that nature, but then the Apple Watch Ultra was announced in September and I thought I knew I needed that, one more exception to my own rule. Know? I'm not going to buy an Apple Watch every year just because I buy the high-end Apple Watch for its durability. I know I'm pretty hard on my watches and a steel and sapphire Apple watch is going to last me a long time. more than anything else and with the Apple Watch Ultra the intention is to continue with this for some time.
I don't think they're going to add any major features or anything like that to the Apple Watch Ultra anytime soon, so I think I'm pretty confident in sticking with this watch for a couple years of battery life. You know, that's all I really have to say. If you're an Apple Watch Ultra user or someone looking to get an Apple Watch Ultra, you've owned an Apple. Look at it in the past or you are moving from a basic model or a steel series to the Ultra battery life. It has been an absolute game changer because it adds quite a bit of functionality for me personally in the past.
Apple bought a company. called bet, which allowed them to do some sleep tracking. Now the problem with the Apple Watch is that you know, the series 8, the series 7, etc., the battery is rated at 18 hours and if you're lucky, you can do it. You'll get about 24 hours of actual use out of an Apple Watch and that's with normal use, meaning maybe a workout or two between charges, but you generally know you'll hit 24 hours and no more and no less if you do. I'm lucky with the 30 hours with the Apple Watch Ultra, it comes with a significantly larger battery and I think it was rated at 36 hours or double the battery life of the series 8.
Now, in my experiences again, Apple likes to understate how much better. life that they are going to put on the phone or on a watch for the Apple Watch Ultra. I personally was getting about 55 hours of battery life, so roughly you know two and a half or two days in some hours, which has been amazing. you know, and for me, that's with a couple of work outs in between, things like that, so the workouts usually drain the battery pretty quickly because it's running the heart rate sensor and all those other sensors that are running there, now a key differentiator between the base models of the Apple Watch Ultra and the Apple Watch has been that action button or the side button.
You know, at this point you can use it to get a list of items that Apple allows me. I initially started using it as a training button. and what I realized is that I wasn't using it at all and I realized that I would probably use it or use a flashlight more often than a training button just because you know every day you use you know if you don't have your phone, the flashlight on your Apple Watch can do a good job of illuminating some scenes, but either way, when I assigned it to the flashlight, I found that I used it at least once a day, sometimes twice a day instead of my iPhone, when you think about That bright 2000 nits screen on the Apple Watch Ultra is much more useful and much brighter than what you would get on a traditional Apple Watch.
At this point, I've sung the praises of the Apple Watch and have some details and nothing crazy, nothing. that will stop me from using it, nothing that I would consider a deal breaker, but a couple of things that bother me about the Apple watch, first of all, is the digital crown, now the digital crown and any digital crown on any Apple watch has a The Tendency to get cute is like you know, when you're sweating it gets a little dirty and it's harder to turn, but what I've noticed is that even when the crown on the Apple Watch Ultra digital is clean, I still have a hard time turning the crown.
Whether it gets stuck on my skin, it's a little bit bigger than the normal digital crown on an Apple Watch, so it gets stuck on the other side of my skin and that little crown guard also protects the crown, but it also makes make it a little more difficult to remove. turn it so you know again it's a minor complaint, it's a small detail but you know that being one of two ways to interact with the Apple Watch and it's intended to be the main way to interact with the Apple Watch Ultra makes it a little complicated. pain that you would have to go through from turning the crown, that you can check your lists or text messages or whatever, to having to touch the screen and you know, flip through your list that way, now another problem that I have had with the Apple Watch Ultra, and in general with the watch operating system, is the inability to set your own custom watch face.
I've always wanted a custom watch face, starting with the OG moto 360 SmartWatch which had Android Wear and I know the capability. Just setting up your own watch face was great, you can find different watch faces from different people and you know obviously people get creative and on the Apple watch you have some customization but it's very limited and it's only on the faces of digital watch and you can only use photos, so you have to be creative in the way you create your watch faces, which I don't like very much. I only use the standard Apple Watch faces, um, just because I don't like the way the others look.
Look, I like a lot of information on my watch face and all the information that is on my watch faces is meant to be there for that purpose. Another detail of mine is the Apple Watch straps, they are extremely expensive, the ones that use the Apple app. came with the watch. I bought the Alpine Loop in green, but if you're looking to buy more Apple Watch bands, I have a lot of watch bands just because I like to change things up. I'm someone who changes my wallpaper every few days. I change my watch band every few days and I'm not, you know, prepared to spend a hundred dollars on, you know, an official Apple watch band, but what I found and to each his own, you know people may not like this, but what I found was that on Amazon there are options that you can get for Apple Watch bands, but they are kind of knockoffs or whatever, in the same color, so I have an Alpine Loop in black and an Alpine Loop and orange and then the Alpine.
Loop and green that came with my Apple watch but they also have the Trail Loop and the ocean Loop or Ocean band um again Apple sells all of those bands for 100 on the Amazon website it's about 12 to 13 or a three pack for something. Like twenty bucks, I'll include a link in the description if you want to get your own Apple Watch knockoff, I guess, but either way I think you know 100 for the similar material, very similar material to what you can find on Amazon. a little crazy, but to each his own. I'm not willing to spend a hundred dollars, especially for someone like me who likes to have a lot of options for watch bands, so my final opinion of the Apple Watch after five

months

of use is incredible.
Look and I think depending on the person it could be perfect. I apologize for the alliteration, but either way I think if you are looking to buy a new watch, you will know whether or not the watch will fit your needs, it really depends on the person. I can't tell if you buy it if you ask me a question. Should you buy the Apple Watch Ultra? My quick answer will be: it depends what you are going to use it for, obviously it is intended for extreme sports. a little more rough use, but I've seen a lot of people who I know don't do extreme sports, myself included, who wanted to watch from theprinciple and they got the watch, so wondering if I should buy the Apple Watch Ultra, it depends.
What are you going to use it for? What do you like about the Apple Watch? Can you get those same features on basic Apple Watches and save yourself some money? The reality is that you have to ask yourself those questions to make the decision. If you had approached me on the day of the launch or announcement of the Apple Watch Ultra, this to me may not have been necessary from the beginning in Apple's eyes, but in my opinion it does a lot of what I needed to extend the life of the battery, a larger case, 49 millimeters compared to the larger 45 millimeters, and then just that big Vivid display, were enough to pull the trigger on the Apple Watch literally the day it went on pre-sale.
I ordered mine, it arrived I think it was September 23rd and I've been happy with it ever since and I've used it during basketball. I have only used it for regular walks. I walked around my neighborhood and was absolutely delighted with this watch. I was also curious about other watches. I looked at the Garmin Fenix Gen 2. I think it's or gen 3. It's more of a rocket watch again. I'm not a heavy user, but it is a larger case. I think it's 51 millimeters and I'm someone who also dabbles in Android, so I'm playing on Android, I play on iOS and it's nice to be able to have a watch that can work in both ecosystems, but the Apple Watch Ultra meets a lot of the needs that I had and it fits many of the criteria I look for in a watch, so again.
In closing, whether you buy the watch or not really depends on what you are going to use it for and what you are looking for in a watch, whether you can find similar features or find the things that If you are looking for one of the cheaper models or the aluminum or steel, and you find what you're looking for there, then look for it if it's something more durable, longer battery life, better screen, bigger screen, bigger case than the Apple Watch Ultra. it's for you again 800 is nothing to write home about, you know it's a lot of money, but again you know what you really need is a filling and if there is something, could you get it somewhere else that will wrap it for this video?
I missed anything you have questions about regarding the Apple Watch Ultra. Leave a comment if you like this video. Like, if you didn't like it, don't like it, but if you really liked it, hit the subscribe button. Thank you all for watching. and have a good day thank you
