Apr 02, 2024
foreigner welcome back to unicorn dust designs my name is Tammy I'm Montgomery and on this channel we do DIY we make wooden signs there is always tons of laughter there are babies there are dogs there is a little bit of everything today we are working with Dollar mosaic pieces Tree so Let's go ahead and go straight to the video so I first found this one on Pinterest but it was like a post that someone shared from a post so if you know who the Original Creator is let me know and I'll put it in the description . box, but this is what it started with, so I couldn't find stars, but I found this wooden ornament from Dollar Tree, so I know it's completely different, but that's how ideas start, so I'm just taking the piece from Dollar Tree mosaic.

I'm just tracing the back with my ornament, it fits perfectly back there. Now make sure when you trace them and start cutting you cut inside the line not outside of it if you want an exact fit now I'm taking my Starbond super glue and I'm going to hit all the raised pieces of this tile so they're recessed and then those raised pieces that we want to hit with the glue because then they will touch our wooden ornament. I just lined it with some hot glue. I probably didn't need this, but you know, extra security. Now I'm going to take Monet's Garden with DIY Paint and give it a coat of paint.

Make sure when you do it. They're doing something like this where they're also hitting all the side edges. Now you can paint the back or you can even cover the back with paper if you want. Now, guys, I think you knew this was coming. I'm taking that gold wax that I used in a previous video and just dipping my finger in there. I'm sure depending on the project you can get a brush and you can do that dry brushing technique that I do like the dark wax and white wax, but you know what I really like, just

using

my finger like that could really control how much happens there and where I want to put it, but are you seeing this come to life right now?

This is impressive, it's beautiful. I love all those beautiful details. You would never assume both pieces came from Dollar Tree. Look, oh my, doesn't this look like

vintage

heaven? Right now, I'm taking this tote bag because I had already used it in a previous product project. I'm going to take this old Christmas stamp. This one is from IOD's Christmas collection last year. I'm going to cut a strip of this, real

easy

, to make sure my stamp fits in there now that I attached. This is just an idea. I didn't end up

using

it though, but I did get some twine and then I just folded the bottom that way.

If I needed to hang it on something I could, we ended up cutting it out later, but whatever, it's fine and now I'm going to take my IOD ink pad um and I'm going to stamp this was very difficult to just hold the stamp without my kitchen mat to hold it, but look how beautiful this fountain is. Oh my word, okay, so now I'm just taking a baby wipe and a little bit of that dark wax and just going around the edges so it doesn't look so new and shiny. I want it to go with the vibe here now I'm just going to take some twine, I just wound it up and it's going to be our hanger for the back.
I didn't want to cut a hole in the front to hang it. Well, now I have some of these. I don't know where they come from. Mama Mickey sent them to me a couple years ago and I chose to go with this one. I brought a couple of them, but ended up choosing the one I had as a gift and things I thought of. it looked more

vintage

E I guess let me know if you would have put this in there or maybe something else so I just hold it there and I put a lot of hot glue in there and I have to hold it down for a while because this little Greenery piece is quite heavy.
I also take my glue gun and go underneath to make sure everything touches the ornament. Now I get our little tag like I said. I didn't end up needing the thread so I cut it out and then I just glued it right there and look how beautiful it turned out so perfect if you love that vintage vibe. I'm obsessed with this, the green and gold. I think the green above matches it perfectly. Let me know. What you think about this in the comments and I hope you can find these pieces and make them yourself. Sorry, this is Barb's from the messed up

tree

.
Now she obviously used a box. She didn't have any boxes and wasn't ready. to make a box so I got these formula cans and you can use coffee cans you can use soup cans and this is how we're going to make our version so I'm going to take the lids off and then what I'm going to do doing here of course , it wasn't big enough to wrap around it and make my life easier, so I wanted to get the middle part. I wanted a specific part of the tile, so what I do is cut the two bottom parts from the bottom. and the top, sorry, then I turn it over and you can see I'm cutting little slices there and this is just my marker of where to cut a cross when I take it out of my can so you can see how all those little indentations are there and then when I'm done with that, I'm going to get a I think it's just wrap it up.
I take a piece of that tile. I never throw away any of the pieces of this thing. and then I'm just going to put that. I'm going to cut it to fit in that little space there. Now I'm going to use my hot glue gun and I'm going to put it on the bottom and top. edge and then I put a little bit in the middle and this holds up very, very well. My hot glue gun is the Lily by Sherbonder and you can only get it on her website. Well, here's my little centerpiece. to get it down to the right size, I don't want it too big of course guys, this isn't going to look very flush, it should be the back of your Christmas

tree

planter, but you get the idea, okay now that I do it.
After cutting this to the proper size, I wasn't going to show you the larger can, but the larger can ended up being easier because I was able to just peel the backing off the tile and tape it down because when you cut

tiles

usually the part sticky falls off the back while I was able to wrap it, cut off the top, which is the excess here and then I'm going to take that excess and wrap it as much as I can. and cut off the excess from there so you can see that the backing and the tile are not completely connected right there, but all I do is hot glue them back on that edge, now that I'm done, I'm going to do it guys, I thought that this was white, it's not my white paint, it was a Waverly glass coating, but you can totally see how I mistook it for white.
It ended up being beautiful, but it's definitely not what I was looking for, so I'm just going to do a layer of this on each of the cans, then I'm going to take my IOD on a stone gray ink pad and I'm just going to jump over this. This is a very

easy

way to get a distressed and detailed look. I love it and you can do it with any color ink pad which is great so if you don't have wax or don't want to dry paint on top of these

tiles

you can always use your ink pad and this is how my versions turned out so I love it.
I love the round look. I think this big one definitely needs a bigger Christmas tree, but I mean I could see them made in all colors, shapes and sizes, so if you have a coffee can, I hope you can. to make one of these and make it yours hello friends, I hope you're enjoying the video so far, so today is try it Tuesday, it's a day where we try different DIY makers, give them credit for it and put their links. down in the description box I also have a playlist for other creators who want to join this, so that will be in my description box as well and I'll try to post it in my comments.
I hope you are enjoying the Dollar Tree tiles. These tiles are absolutely beautiful, there are tons and tons and tons of things to do with them, so I hope they inspire you if you can find them to pull them out. I also heard they are at Family Dollar and Dollar General for only a

dollar

versus $25, so check those stores out. I also wanted to give you a big warning because this happens very often on these videos, especially since traffic is increasing here on YouTube, so this is for if you see this on any channel, if someone is commenting under your comment, anything that contains the word telegram, it is a scam, these people are trying to get you to send them money and personal information.

All my links are in the description box. Be sure to like, comment and subscribe and let's get back to these DIY mosaics.
Okay, this is another one. one that was like a shared post on Pinterest from someone else, so I saw this. I knew I had one of these ornaments. I didn't realize I had made two ornaments until I was done with this video, but anyway, this is the ornament we're going for. to use we're going to take that top off, you don't want to fold it completely or anything because you're going to reuse it and then we're going to take our mosaic piece and these are really easy to use guys. and they have a strong adhesive let me know if you have used them on the walls and if they have held up pretty well because I want to try it on the new house okay again guys I just traced it.
Cut it. I'm using that Star Bond glue again, this is like a super glue and then I'll do some hot glue around the edges and glue it on, then I'll use that Crimson from Waverly. paint and I give this one two coats because I don't want to see any silver coming out of this and again remember to paint those edges, you don't want to see the brown edges of the MDF when you have this beautiful red paint and then the same thing with the top of the trim because let's go to paint that silver a brown color, you want to make sure those edges are nice too, so I was trying to give it a rusty look for all of you and me.
I use burnt umber from an apple barrel and then Waverly squash. Now usually when I make this I use Waverly truffle and pumpkin and it gives me a completely different rusty look which I love, this ended up coming out as burnt umber which I'm not researching but I followed it anyway because it ends up following run of the mill with all our trim, but if you want a rusty look, choose Chalk Paints, not this acrylic paint, so now I'm sticking with that dark DIY. wax and look at this oh my gosh so I'm just taking my stencil brush from Dollar Tree I'm dipping it into that wax and you can see this ornament come to life all those beautiful details popping out I think that's what I like loves.
The most important thing about these tile pieces is that they are so beautiful, especially if you paint them and then put another layer on top to highlight that detail, they look very elegant and I don't know, I think they are stunning. I said awesome a million times in this video so sorry not sorry okay so when I'm done with that we're going to go ahead and put that ornament back up and I thought of you guys because in the picture and in the inspiration photo She has a great bond. I wasn't into that big bow on this ornament, so I tried a raffia bow, tried some greenery, and then thought, why are we forcing it?
Well, not everything needs a ton of everything as it is absolutely beautiful on its own. That's how I ended up quitting. Let me know if you would have put Greenery, if you would have put the big bow like in the inspiration image or what you would have done to personalize it or if you would have just left it as is. because look at that oh I love it okay this one is inspired by Barb from the shabby tree and then I saw this DIY maker dreaming about Heidi Scott and I loved how she put the wooden beads in between her like they were trees so Let's take two pieces of the tile and we'll join them together.
This just helps you get started with the cutting process. Now I'm going to take a ruler. These are 12 by 12 pieces, so your center will obviously be your six. inches Mark and then we're going to cut that to the side and this didn't cut all the way through so I ended up having to take some scissors and cut it off just so you guys know after I finish cutting that side. you're going to go over to your right side and you're going to do the exact same thing you're going to your six inch Mark cut it now since these are perfect 12 by 12 sheets you just have to cut three inch sections and they're actually plotted for you so you can see where that line is, in the middle image, that line that goes across, cut it, the line right here, at the point at the top, you're going to cut it now.
To set them up and take them outside, I'm going to spray them with hammered Rust-Oleum. It's that Rust-Oleum anyway, hammer paint let it drycompletely because it takes a while, then I'm going to take my IOD, uh, green. ink and I'm going to stamp that I didn't know what I was doing here you guys I thought this is going to come out super ugly and look dirty or it's going to be pretty, let me tell you this turned out beautiful with this ink. I don't know what gave me the idea to use green, but it looked beautiful, so now we're going to dry all that and I definitely didn't watch any of your videos.
I just looked at the photo and said I can do that, so maybe they have an easier way to put this together, but I'm showing you mine, so for the base I'm just using this piece of wood that's from Hobby Lobby. I made that little X shape to find the middle hole. hole put a skewer in there and sorry guys you need a skewer you need a base and you need four big beads so for me I put the skewer in there and then I hot glued my first piece towards the bottom this for me was This will be my guide if I take out the skewer and then, you know, attach everything, but I decided to leave the skewer because it gave me a better idea of how to attach everything, so here I am, I'm just trying to test if all my beads will fit and all my pieces will fit together so now I'm just going to hot glue the second tile piece to the back of the first one that I glued and you won't notice that I'm not gluing the mosaic pieces together I'm just gluing them to the skewer and here is when I decide, you know, I'm just going to put my super glue and put my skewer in there from time to time, you know, build up, so here's our second piece again applying. that hot glue right in the middle applying it to the skewer, then I turn it over and get the second piece because remember we had two pieces of mosaic, so we have two pieces of each section.
Then I'm going to glue that to the skewer. I'm going to put in my wooden bead, you don't need to hot glue them, they're not going anywhere I will say, although I barely had enough room to make my tree so you would need more length on your skewer if you wanted to do it this way instead of Barb or Heidi way, so again we're going to put that third piece, we put the remaining bead now for the top point. I heat glue the tile pieces and I did it because I almost had nothing left on my skewer and I didn't want it to fall off so you can see I'm applying the hot glue and then this is done and look how beautiful it turned out and notice how the green. the ink there almost looks like bronze or something.
I am. I love it. I love this. I think it turned out so beautiful and I love being able to make it my own, but mix the two together now if you're new to my channel. I included two mosaic DIYs that I made previously, so if you haven't seen them, we'll take two, we'll use those Dollar Tree mosaics again, we'll take two wood rounds. I just like things taken at random. from my stash and I'm going to trace them on the back of these mosaic pieces and these are going to be our two pieces for our little antique snowman so I'm going to cut them out and then I'm also going to take these similar calendar cardboard pieces and I'm doing the same thing drawing circles on them.
These will be our backings for our tile pieces since they are not very thick. I'll cut them all off now. I'm just going to hot glue them onto our cardboard, this will just make it stiff and not flimsy. Okay, so after I finish gluing the pieces onto our cardboard rounds, I'm going to grab my plaster again. Let's do the same thing we did with the Christmas trees. I'm going to point it out. We are going to do two layers in each of the rounds. Now I'm going to take a piece of tile. I'm going to cut a large rectangle.
Take it out and simply measure the size of your snowman here to determine how big you want your hat. Then I'll take a second piece and cut it as a long, thin rectangle to be the brim of our snowman hat. I'm going to put the two together and once I'm done with that, I'm going to take the deep black of Folk R and I'm going to stipple that. I just need one layer of this and then you guessed it. I'm going to get that DIY right first. I'm going to take the gray wax, then the white DIY wax and I'm going to brush it on and look at how beautiful all that detail is that comes out.
I could watch this over and over again when that happens. Now we are going to attach our snowman body and head with some hot glue. It sticks very, very easy. I just reinforced it a little more on the back so it doesn't stick. I separate, then I'm next, I'm going to put the hat on and of course we have to customize the snowman so I'm going to get a scarf from Dollar Tree. I'm going to cut a smaller piece now, this is going to sound weird and I don't know if it makes sense, but I wanted the little tassels on the scarf, so to do that, I'm measuring this to see how long I don't know. to make sense, you'll see, just look, okay, so I cut a piece with the tassel.
You can see I'm going to cut this extra piece of hot glue off of my scarf, now that other piece that had the tassels. I'm going to glue it to the snowman like that, both pieces of my scarf look like a scarf with tassels. Well, I hope you picked up what I was leaving because I definitely didn't explain it very well, so I'm going to hot glue the front. So let's add some accessories to our hat. I mean, we need accessories in our hat, especially glitter during the Christmas season, so these are just a few picks that I think I bought from Walmart last year and I'm just deconstructing them. to put a pinecone in there and then I'm going to take some berries and the berries I'm going to put them inside that little green piece and the last thing we do is just take some twine, I'm going to put it on the back of the doll's head snow I like to hide my twine behind the whole image and that's how you can see that you are very cute.
I love all the details. This could be a door hanger if you wanted. They can sell them at craft fairs. I mean there are so many things you can do with them for this DIY that you will need six blocks in total. I'll leave the measurements in the description box and three spindles of your choice or you can just use uh as plunger rods if you want. Now I didn't know where I was going with this, so I grabbed a Waverly truffle and a baby wipe and I'm going to go ahead and dye these six blocks.
I'm going to leave the spindles as they are then. I'm going to grab these tiles from Dollar Tree and you guys, I've been seeing them in all my stores so I hope you can find them now. What we're going to do with these is fold them in half. I'm going to create a half triangle, the biggest one I could fit in the first one, then I'm going to cut it out now. Make sure you cut within that permanent marker line so you don't have permanent marker all over the tree. Take the backup. because it comes off anyway and then we're going to go and make a second one now with the second one you're going to fold it in half again.
I'm going to use our first largest tree as a guide. I'm going to put a notch a little bit less than what we had cut the first time, okay, and I'm just going to draw that and then again we're going to cut it and I'm going to do this a third time. Also, these tiles are a little flimsy now, so what I did was buy my cardstock. I'm going to put some hot glue on the back of the tile. Now the tile isn't melting, but you can definitely still feel the heat. the tile gets hot so be careful and then I'm going to cut this down now our tree is a little bit sturdier we're not going to have to worry about that, you know, like being all lazy and I just don't even know where that came out right and we're going to do the same for all three now we're going to add the magic touch to the paint so this is anti-green for folk art and it's chalk paint, it's absolutely beautiful for Christmas.
I'm going to point out that here we're just going to do one layer for this one and then we're going to, oh, guys, these cutting mats from Dollar Tree are amazing for chalk painting. The paint wipes off very easily and that way you have a nice, clean space. So for the other two, I'm going to use Waverly plaster. You can see I'm just applying a messy layer on this first layer and then. the second layer I'm going to come back and I'm going to do that stipple effect so you don't see brush strokes on the Christmas tree now I'm going to take my homemade white wax that I got from recycled by bree .com and I'm obsessed with it and you can see why it you need something that's super flat and then you bring out the details and I mean who doesn't love seeing all that detail and then with this one with the white?
I'm going to take a gray wax and brush it on now. I didn't sand over this just because I felt like it was going to look more rough than distressed, so I chose to use the wax, so once that's done, we'll be going to grab our shafts. I'm going to start with a little bit of hot glue and then nail them for the other two, but this shaft was so thin that I couldn't nail it through, so I secured it really well with hot glue. You'll see right here for this axis. I'm going to put hot glue on it, then I'm going to take my nail gun and I'm going to shoot it down the front twice like that, these Christmas trees aren't going anywhere. and then I'm going to do the same for the third one, now we're going to take some wood glue and some hot glue and we're going to stick it on the smaller square cube and then I'm going to hammer some nails into it. that too so our spindles don't fall off, then I take a little more wood glue and a little hot glue and I glue it to the bottom of our little smaller square and I'm going to attach it to the larger square just to give it more height, more interest, more depth and this is just my thing.
I added Spanish moss. You could add snow or just leave it as is, but you guys in the title when I say you are high end Dollar Tree. Christmas these look high end they don't look like they came from Dollar Tree at all and if you don't believe that then we can't be friends okay just kidding it's not really cool right? That was all for today's video. I hope you were inspired by all of these Dollar Tree tile DIYs. I appreciate you spending your time with me and I'll see you here soon. We have a doctor's appointment at 10:45, so we have to skip naps, so someone is getting cranky and she's not.
