and then there are rewards, so the most important thing for me was on my favorite minecraft server you got this reward that was like a ranking that reached 30,000 subscribers. I think I made it clear that my only goal in this whole YouTube thing is to get a high pixel YouTube ranking which was surreal. that was the pinnacle of success, that was all I imagined wanting, maybe I could get it, so that was like the sacred and then you pass the sacred mark, yeah, and ever since then I've been like I think I would normally use the word surreal but just unusual, you know, very unusual, my dream was always to be an editor at a film studio and just sit at the premiere and that's my job, it's quite British not to be like, yeah mate, I'll strive to be the best. then I'll have a million and I deserve it because I worked hard, you should put on an American accent, yeah buddy, I'll get my millionaires and then I'll have my mansion surrounded by beaches, when something naturally falls into place.

It just feels good to have a good direction in your career because you enjoy it so much. I think that's when you can really establish that dream that a lot of people have, where it's like you have a job that you love, you don't work. a day in your life I think the biggest part is watching the way I think about youtube is imagining being at a train station and at some completely random moment it could be tomorrow it could be in a year it could be like in five years a train es you're going to arrive, you don't know when, while you're at this train station, you can be packing your bags and folding your clothes very carefully, be super prepared to be right on the tracks, ready to go, or you can be stumbling.

They didn't really ask you about your ticket, put it in and then you say, oh trends, you also have to be prepared to improvise, so to stay in it you have to be prepared to go wherever it takes you, yeah, totally, yeah, and that It's scary. It was at that point where I started impacting people around me, like the whole internet met my mom's social media and stuff and then at the same time I was having privacy issues and getting recognized more. I had been there before and couldn't see any of my friends because I was locked up.

I remember having a serious moment where I was like, is this what I want to keep doing because this is too much and I had this moment where it was like reflecting like this, this is so different than what I could have imagined, yeah, and that feeling of fame you know, I wasn't even sure if I wanted that, I just like making funny videos, I had some chats at the time I talked to Wilbur and he was like, you know dude, this is a really hard time. I wouldn't be surprised if you quit, if you can get through it you'll be huge, you'll be fine, but that's the way it is.

The hardest obstacle along the way and it was totally, I think I really connected with my roots and was like, yeah, I love this. Do you ever go through a period where you say, oh God, everyone knows who I am and has their preconceived ideas? Notions of what I am and what that means and did that ever get into your head? It's like the feeling of being watched, like going to the mall, because you can feel something that you can feel when someone is looking at you, staring at you and suddenly you're like getting used to that, yeah, okay, which is what it is now.
It just took a long time for that to become normal. I remember that going out in public was like wearing a costume, yes, like putting on glasses still. being recognized just to like to see just because you suddenly felt out of control like yeah I just want to go places like my favorite park was like someone was waiting there they were really innocent about it it was as sweet as they thought it was I could see you there, yeah, I've been waiting like four hours and I was like, yeah, and then you have all this pressure to live up to the expectations that this person has when they come from out of town and they're there waiting. to you for hours that took a long time to find a way for that to be cool, you feel the need to justify that it's cool that you're grateful for it because yes, you are but at the same time you can't really avoid this feeling of oh, this it's a bit excessive, this isn't what you signed up for, yeah, when you want to make videos with your friends in a certain way in the public eye, yeah, yeah, it's really weird, do you feel like exploding?

Being so young has forced you to grow up quickly, yes, well, especially when I was 16, I felt very bad understanding this whole business world and then somewhat less about social issues, so when all that was quite anxious and all that . like I was starting therapy, you know, which I would never have done normally, you know, when I was anxious at school because YouTube was more open to trying things, well, you get past the worries of a high school kid, you know where you are. . Like I need to worry about my homework, I need to worry about my social relationships, I need to worry about the person I like and like, that's your world and now you have so many new things to worry about, you know?
Worrying about how you worry and so many weird things, yeah, I never thought about why it revolves around, you know, something so overwhelming and, to my face, what's the craziest thing you've ever done for a video, cocaine, jumping off a plane, probably for an entire shot and then sync it up in the edit with the double nose thing because it's funny, it was probably the best game, but you started this channel where you do crazy things in real life like jump out of a plane, is there anything than constantly striving to push yourself outside? from your comfort zone that has stayed with you, do it less because I didn't like bungee jumping.
It was like well, I really know it's like something reprogrammed in my brain that now every time I look at the ground I can imagine being there. Also this weird thing where as soon as I start turning the camera, whether it's physical or verbal, I do what's funnest and I like to do it with this one where I was in public dressed as a Minecraft character, yeah, I like it. like. I didn't remember it because I got into character so hard that I just stuck the microphone in that guy's face and yelled at someone calling a Roman incestual like his faith, something about turning a situation into Entertainment just eliminates all the elements of stress, anxiety and seriousness.
Yes, when I filmed a documentary where I dressed as an anime cafe maid, it was very, very awkward in my normal life, I would feel so tight and uncomfortable, but with those cameras. I didn't shoot anything knowing I was there to document and entertain people when they see me do this thing that most people would feel so strange about. Yeah, I just had the most confidence in the world like you were a showman and you were. on a stage you wouldn't just stand there being yourself, he wasn't a camera, you'd say hi everyone, I'm uh and start making jokes, you'd discover a way like that, I think a lot on youtube. and success is like leveraging your strengths, you know, yeah, so dreaming is incredibly analytical and really good at studying and seeing patterns because it's like a coder and Wilbur is really good at something like that, you know like no, nothing and it's really hard. . working, he did it for about 10 years and he's constantly looking at the next thing and trying, trying, trying.
I think my strength is talking to people and being passionate about things and chatting, so I bet every YouTuber could do that. name, I probably got on a call with them and said, what do you think of all this? Because I really don't understand it. They call me the sponge, the sponge, so I went from being famous, sponge, Tom Boyce pants, sponge in the pants voice, please love me. I've learned a lot from dreams, like having a Google document with similar words, he said, Wilbur taught me a lot more about perspective and how not to fry your brain while doing all this. like mr beast, you know, one of the craziest things i've ever said, cut every sneeze, like things that are kinda gross, people tend to click more and like it, so you should cut things that are gross, I have to keep those sneezes on the video and I.
I think what you know after taking all these perspectives is what I pride myself on, is like really knowing that scientific and analytical side and applying it to my videos, but making sure that the soul and the content is what's next for Tommy in Really I enjoy YouTube, but I want to try other things for myself now, so it's like Wilbur and I wrote this book that we're doing together because it's been so much fun hanging out with him. every day and you write for a few hours so you push yourself out of your comfort zone or what you know you love and try new things and experiment and see what else you love yeah totally like you know what alliance the success. and that to me is like making people laugh, it's like a book feels like that, doing a live show, that's the most important thing that you're not going to feel like they're laughing at after doing this, suddenly it might to say, oh my god, I want to tour the whole world, how does being a and not taking it seriously translate to a stage?
Can I let you know that everyone in the audience farts at the same time? It's funny, it's an experiment that has never been done. Oh wait, why not? And then everyone gets mad because it sucks, that's funny, I want you to know it entertains these people, this is absolutely my dream, to be here remaking this, I can never understand it, but I can reflect on myself and think this is great and I think that every moment of last year, if you could describe it to me from a few years ago, I would have liked to faint, you would say no, I think the fact that it's real is probably what makes me most happy about you.
I'm happy your reality is your reality damn feeling I've been in for two years and I came out and now everyone seems to know what my face is like and then I went and met the man on my side and now I'm like I can make videos and millions of people see it it doesn't make any sense but it's real and that's pretty weird cool and I like it uh I like that but it doesn't feel like my reality it feels like I haven't woken up yet We're not going to pinch you, yeah, okay, oh John, don't make it too loud.
I really wake up. It's just amazing, so I'm really happy to have

spent
