skills now the number one skill in order to get the pay you deserve you need to have the right mindset and it sounds a little trivial to say you need to have the right mindset but here's the truth The thing is that you already need to believe that you deserve the right level of pay and you need to know that you are already qualified for the position you are in and you need to know that you are qualified for the position you are in or for the position you are going for , because if you don't feel like you're qualified for that position, you're obviously going to be more willing to accept a discount for that position, so having the right mindset really means knowing that you're already enough, knowing that you already bring everything that's needed, and knowing that you are qualified and that if all those things are in the right order, then you deserve to be paid properly, most people don't get paid. that they deserve because they don't think they deserve the position they're already in, in fact, if you haven't had a chance to watch a previous video, this video is about how experience affects your salary and A lot of people say, "Oh, I don't have the right degree or I don't have a degree or I don't have this qualification but chances are you pay more attention to the experience you have because experience can make up for not having a degree so watch that video and make sure you're okay equipped to understand how experience affects your salary ability number two.

I want you to be able to do your own market research to understand the salaries that are out there, and I want you to combine all that data to truly answer the question: Are you wrong with your own salary? ability number three to get the salary you deserve, you have to be willing to have what I call a brave conversation. It takes a lot of courage to be able to go to someone and tell them, according to this research, that I'm underpaid. my peers in the market who are doing this same work and this is what I would like and I would like to be able to talk about how to take my page to the right level.

To do this, I'm a good person when it comes to having this conversation with a decision maker, a lot of those feelings don't really matter at the end of the day, you need to be able to make your business case when you're talking to a decision maker using I think that I feel I think or talking about how you feel like you're just worth it is not a great approach a framed message what I'm talking about is being able to carry out that research that you've done and bring that data with you and talk about it in terms of you know that You love your job but you feel that by staying here you will fall behind what your peers are doing in the market and therefore make sure you have this.

This framing message really helps your business and therefore speaking in terms of data and research will always help you get a more positive outcome when speaking to your employer and trying to get the salary you deserve, so I don't. It helps to reiterate the message I was talking about right now if you're looking at market data. I want you to be able to look at market data as well up to skill number five so you can get the pay you deserve.

Willing to stand your ground, what are you willing to do if the employer says no? And that's something you really have to ask yourself is how important this is to you, because there will be times when an employer will say no for countless reasons. No, because they don't have it in their own budget and they may say no because they feel like you don't deserve it or maybe your research looks different than theirs. You need to know before you start having this conversation what you need. are willing to do for some people, they are willing to say okay, at least I tried, it's okay, for other people they may be willing to say okay, well this will mean I'll have to go out and see what other job opportunities If this is something you decide to tell the employer as a disclaimer, be sure to let them know that you are not sending your resignation letter at that time, but you want to let them know just for transparency reasons. that you want to go out to see if you can get the pay you deserve somewhere else and that's why you want to give them a face and you want to be direct and transparent with them and that's why with skill number five you have to be I'm willing to stand firm on what is. most important to you, so now we're on to my favorite segment, which is the career success bonus advice for underrepresented and above populations, and in this section I want to talk a little bit about a website that I love called equal pay today dot org and on this website she talks about when is equal pay day for women and she talks specifically about women and breaks it down by race or ethnicity and what she's talking about is how long it takes for a woman to earn equal pay. amount for doing the same work as a man, especially a white man, so when you go to equal pay today, that organization checks the dates that we as women celebrate our equal pay and it's different depending on your race. or ethnicity as a woman, for example, equal pay day for women in general in 2019 is April 2 this year, so we have just celebrated our ability to win equal pay for what men already won in 2018 Now, if you're an Asian woman, it's actually a little bit earlier, it's March 5, but it'll still be next year to earn the same amount if you're a white woman.

The same salary for you is April 19.
