Vocal Coach Reacts To PENTATONIX - Daft Punk (Vocal Analysis, Explanation & Demo)

Jun 08, 2024
oh my god, hello beautiful, I'm the mother of the voice and today I'm going to react to Pentatonix doing a Daft Punk medley. I think this is the sixth step in the uh, I've always loved acapella and

vocal

harmonies and stuff, but what caught my attention. What strikes me most about this group is that each one of them was simply fascinating and equally talented, foreign, borderline, unbearable at best. I'm really excited to see how they will arrange a medley of songs because medley is advanced and difficult music theory, it's definitely a prerequisite. Those of you who watched my last video may be wondering about the state of my pinky.

It's really quite bleak. This is no quack Dr. Quinn, so there's nothing a little Pentatonix can't fix. I'm sure because it's very cold. Bloody eyes once again. I was actually wondering if they would make use of any

vocal

effects like vocoders, obviously Duff Punk and vocoders are synonymous, but no, we haven't heard any yet, there's a bit of splicing and looping, it shows. They definitely didn't play it like they just played one and then cut it to give it that futuristic electronic quality, but without really affecting the sound of their vocals, so clearly everyone put different levels of commitment into this uh.

Fame, but it works, the blue contact lenses really add a layer of mystery that I really appreciate, maybe they only had one pair of those really cool lenses so they made a big rock paper scissors and the beatbox guy, one that I have to do. Although I say that upon closer inspection, I'm afraid these contact lenses have irritated Avi's eyes quite a bit, they're quite red, they make him look a little high, unless he's high, which is fine, like the legend of the Phoenix when I start together, oh that's the coolest thing ever, which is incredibly cool, we're just going to touch on a couple things here: who is your dentist because you have the most perfect teeth I've ever seen, so when you arrange for acapella and you can only use vocals. and you're trying to replicate instruments more pertinently, in this case music production effects, you have to be creative with the resonance space, so okay, let me try to explain this, yeah, you hear this affection for electronic music all over time, it's to give the The song is a bit of a swear word, a bit of lift and because they obviously decided not to affect the actual quality of the vocals, they decided to make their own by gradually letting more sound come out of the mouth so that I've done that effect inside his genius body if we feel the music just explodes in this chorus section obviously with the help of the avi mini Riser and I mean this guy's name is Kevin.

I feel like Kevin's energy is Kevin. Kevin has also increased. the energy in this section by not changing the speed, but adds like a little extra hi-hat just by keeping it going, then adds like alternating snares, one with a slightly higher resonance and then another with a weird lower resonance, so probably be raising the lengths for higher resonance and lowering the larynx. For the lover, everything moves at such a fast pace and are subtle details. I'm so obsessed with his voice, the tone is like who is he, who is he, the tall man of Pentatonix, Scott Hoying. let's go to the movies, that's what reminds me of um, Giza from Game of Thrones, there we go, yeah, this is the most relaxing and juicy thing.

Claude Debussy once said that music is the silence between the notes and I love that quote because it is very true when you are very precise when finishing a sentence that space afterwards I think sometimes it is what gives us little chills like here I love how They cut these very hard notes and you hear that void in the middle now obviously this was done with a computer they would have cut the audio, which would cut it and leave that little bit of space and then I would try a moment of total silence in a song instead A little interruption makes such a difference that it gives us the element of surprise and excitement as the song builds, all the choruses are quite open-mouthed, as if we also have that nice bright resonance.
I open everything up, it's like a little musical flower, that production technique I mentioned, like an EQ filter sweep, here it is. obviously he did it with a little bit of breath on his tongue like shh and then he just changed the shape of his mouth so it sounds pretty good last night I had this dream about you in this dream I'm dancing right next to you, there's nothing wrong with a bit of fun. We were dancing all night once again. Well, it's interesting how Abby does the filter sweep, so he's doing the same kind of thing that Kevin just did, but the air is escaping through his teeth, oh. that's really effective.
I never thought about doing that cute Abby, I don't know what to do. Using a little tension on her face can really help control that delicate mixed voice sound that she's producing, she kind of gives it a little bit. some stamina needed, stronger guys, oh I don't even know where to start. How much time do you have? How can lips move so fast? In this section we could describe a staccato which means short and nervous and like a stab and to control the staccato vocals. to sing a really good technique, they're using the beginning of each word that starts with a vowel, like a set, it's just when you use this little thing here called a glottis to start a note and it gives us that clarity that I love. how it starts out kind of hoovery and choppy, but as soon as Mitch says louder, it gets louder like the attention to detail.
Oh, I love how effectively and magnificently they've used everyone's reach in this section to the point where it just doesn't work. It doesn't sound real, but it is. I know it's real because after hearing their voices perform Hallelujah, I know what they're capable of. They've so effectively juxtaposed everyone's voices, like Mitch, the loudest singer, right after you have Abby singing the song. the lowest notes of the group, so it's like a spell, even the tiny detail of how they have sung, they make it like a little tone. Leaning up and up, making me work harder, they just make me so excited that they have this.
The effect on my entire spirit makes me feel so free tonight together. Why am I crying and I wasn't even sad? The bass line she does is fucking naughty, kind of. I think what he did was a lot cooler, but he definitely traveled through an octave in just one phrase, which was like something about this section where everyone seems to be using the sweet spot of their range. Avi is down there and then Mitch sings Kristen sings Scott sings Kevin is going crazy with his lips very fast, that's what I just did. Finding it so overwhelming is like listening to The Sweet Spot by five incredible singers at the same time like you just can't handle it.
They all have their own distinctive unique energies while belonging to this type of compact collective. It reminds me of the same principle as Queen, like Freddie Mercury is obviously his thing at the forefront. Brian and Roger are quite eccentric in his own way, then John is so calm even though his energy is in self-expression. They're all different when they're together, it's a wonderful, explosive synergy and yes, apparently this performance won a Grammy. I assume it was a Grammy for arrangements, but honestly it could have been a Grammy for Best Vocal Performance, Best Teeth. I just don't have enough good things. to say it was amazing in every way quite obsessed with them thank you so much for watching this video today I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed making it if there are any singers who would like to see me react please let me know below in the comments or in my Discord since it would be a pleasure for me if you have a wonderful day.
I love you so much and I can't wait to see you next time, bye.
