How to Make a Road PBR Material - Quixel Mixer Tutorial

Apr 05, 2024
so now it's basically just your creativity to do the job that you think is right, so I'm also going to delete it here on this side so that it's not completely the same as the left side so we can see that we have a lot of variation here and I'm actually going to do click here on the

material

and set the repeats to five so we have smaller lips, and lastly I'm going to add a water

material

. liquid layer, I mean, this liquid layer is if you want to have that wet

road

effect, you can do this, you can adjust the color here a little bit, you can adjust the threshold if you want it higher or lower, you can adjust the radius here , the surface. the wet one too, so you can do this here and in my case I'll just leave it over here, it's enough with this puzzle here, okay and then when you're done, you can see how this material repeats by pressing t Okay and you can notice that you will see all of these repetitions, so what I suggest you do is that in your 3D model you cut the geometry into sections like these square sections and then you have a material like this for one section and let's say in the next section you would create a material that does not have this part so for example this patch of asphalt so you remove it and so you will not notice this repetition so much so that you can also remove this one so that you have a material that is a little cleaner and another that has a little more damage and you can also do another thing, so let's say you divide it into three sections, you can even do things like go to the decal and you can add other elements like, for example, the stop sign, so you can

make

this stop sign. go here rotate 90. remove the mosaic

make

the scale to two adjust the y and you can even paint the same yellow color and so all these things you can create different types of materials using the same base, so let's just remove this stop sign let's go now here to the export and here in the export you see that you can select the folder, you can select the name again and you have the type of preset, specular or mental, you can select the textures, so you select the brightness or the roughness depending on the type of software that you are using and then here at the bottom you will see that you can select up to 8k resolution, so in my case I will select 4k and then I will export to disk and so We will start exporting all the textures that you just created in this material pbr and here there are the textures, so we have the albedo which is basically the same as diffuse and we had the ambient occlusion, we had the metallicity, this is for the metallicity workflow, the normal one. we map the roughness and we also have the displacement but in this case export the displacement like this e x r so what we can do we can go to photoshop we open the file in photoshop we go here to image mode and let's load here at 8 bits and here in the local application expose so you can see there's no difference and press ok and now you can save this and save it as png and this way you'll be able to load it into lumion or d5 render for example. and another thing we need to do in case of lumion we need to load both normal map and roughness and we need to copy the normal roughness we need to invert the green add an alpha and paste and now save it as target so this is so lumion has the proper roughness in the normal map, but we need to save it as 32-bit.

Okay, now let's go to lumion. I already have a raw material here that I created previously, but let's load the new one. So what am I going to do? To do first, I'm going to make this standard okay, now I'm going to load the color map, which in this case is the albedo, so open it up, okay, now we need to adjust the mosaic here so that the scale of the map can rotate and now. it has to be even a little bit less, over here and let's slow down the normal, this one that has the roughness in the alpha channel and lastly the offset here, so this offset you'll probably notice even better here, okay, you can see the effect we are going to save and now you can see the new material that I have that is here and it has this slight moisture effect because we created that liquid layer and now you can see here the material that I created previously with this quiksil blender and like you I saw that it is quite intuitive and quickly create this type of materials and let me know in the comments if you like me to do more
