D.I.Y car respray colour change!

Mar 23, 2024
Alright guys and gals, welcome back to another episode where we watch some idiot paint a BMW, so I thought it's about time we got back to the old Air 328i Sport that we're going to turn into our track car. First we have to paint it. Before I do anything mechanical to it, as you can see, the body works pretty poorly, I have two new front wings, new to me, that are not some kind of primer, they are half prepared and I have them. well, but they are better than the wings it has, the bumper must come off.

I have another kind of front grill panel on the way because as you can see this one is also bent and useless so it will need the bumper. to get out, we'll get the well, the nose cone can stay right now, but if we can remove the bumper, we have the wings, we'll remove the side skirts and what we'll do is First we'll paint the side skirts, the front bumper, the two fins and the new nose and then we will paint the rear bumper, the trunk lid and the hood and another session and then we will bring the car in and paint them both. the rear quarters and the door edges, basically, there has to be three or four different painting sessions involved here, I just don't have the space to do it all the time to do it all at once and let's hope it turns out anyway.

Ok, we'll fix it, remove the bumper, close the side skirts and open them. We begin to prepare them for painting. Come on, okay, so we have the front bumper mainly held by these two. screws here and another two screws on the other side there are some small mountain boats that are here. I don't know if you can see them up here and some below, but they're actually missing from this one, so no. big deal, so we're going to take them out, we're going to take the bumper off the back, the side skirts are basically held on by some sort of clips back here, so they just come off and I don't know if you'll be able to see these kinds of clips here, so you take them out. the center and you take it out and we're ready to go so they should come out anyway let's get them out oh don't you understand it's just um the last time you're here?

I'm crazy every hour, but I can't believe I don't want to feel so alone tonight every time we hang out. I want to do this one last time, but you make it worse. Come on, hmm, oh, can you see me shaking? The sound of my heart wishing I could forget it myself myself full tell me why you gotta go and go so crazy now I feel lost without you and I just can't be with her baby can't I? all night I love you all night tell me what you got baby everything without you baby and I just can't be without you baby baby give me tell me without you baby so it's okay so boys and girls what we got here is We got some scratch padding and stone chips and it's basically to get out any little set of chips that are left over, so we flatten this hood and get out most of our larger chips, but when you put this on a filler primer, you only see a little bit, obviously it produces small little bits that you've missed and also if you filled in any areas like there's a little bit of filler here and there and the filler itself is not 100 smooth so sometimes there may be a little bubble that needs to be filled in but it becomes more obvious when you apply the primer, so all you have to do is get what comes with it and put some in the spreader. and just a few little bits, they look like they might need to be filled, literally, you just turn them over, put a little bit on them and it takes about five minutes to dry, which doesn't take long and then you can just sand it off. flat and make it nice and smooth again, just another one of those little tricks that are wearing out on YouTube videos, finally, anyway, let's move on guys and girls, so we're ready for the intro to this, uh, the main body of the car. we're going to prime the hood and the doors and the rear quarter and a part of the roof all at the same time and then what we'll do is remove the doors and because we'll paint the doors separately and then when we're painting the rear quarters and the roof will fly off the edges and around the edge and things like that and we quickly came up with my kind of mockup of what I have to do and we have a radiator here that runs on fuel we have a radiator there that is on film we have a little bit here and it's actually quite hot here you can walk comfortably with your t-shirt on and we also have this little type of extractor fan, I mean, it's not huge and I'll put it, we have an extraction hose down there, um, but it should be enough to empty the place of the fumes, in a few minutes, hopefully, just open the door enough to get the hose out and hopefully that will set up most types of fumes.

I also have a filter to put on the hose so it should filter out anything nasty anyway, let's put some primer on it. Alright, we smoothed it all out with 800 grit sandpaper, in fact when I was doing the hindquarters there were a few little bits that I just wasn't happy with so I actually re-primed the hindquarters and then primed The one I used was a slightly darker color so you can see there's a difference there but it's a lot flatter now, just when I was blocking it in before there were a couple of low areas you probably wouldn't have noticed but I thought you might as well be like that. give them another primer, block it and then place them properly.
I'm happy with him. This side wasn't too bad. We just kind of made a light layer around the arch with the gray and down here as well when we were blocking it and you. I can see that's where there's been sort of low areas where the gray is filling it in, um, but it should be a lot better than it was and likewise here everything's going to be fine, so let's get some paint. I'm also very excited, I'll see how it turns out, wish me luck because as you can see it's not the best environment to paint the car in and I'm going to go ahead and tie some up and get rid of it. of some of the trash that's lying around and then we'll try to put as much of it as possible in the back and cover it up and get that big black thing out of the way, um, and then we're going to pick it up today. speaking very very well guys and girls that's it literally I just finished I just painted the side skirts and I didn't film it because I filmed everything else um it looks pretty good I think um I mean The problem with painting things is that they're just waiting for them to dry and stuff like that, and you can't rush into painting, it's absolute, it's a pain in the brain, so it has been, but definitely, the more patient you are, the better. work you're going to get and it seems like I'm learning that the more I paint anyway, that's it for this one and hopefully I can post our video next week and we'll put it all back together and polish it up. see exactly what it looks like once it's done hopefully it'll be a diy paint job it might not actually turn out that bad anyway guys and girls louis asks in this video we're back in lockdown here in the UK again so I've had a lot of time to spend on this car and I've spent quite a bit on it, I mean it's been 10 days, I've been preparing it, it doesn't actually look like that video but what you just saw worth 10 days. of work um I mean that's where when you pay a spray painter to do a proper job, a couple of thousand pounds, three thousand pounds depending on where you are in the country, it's that moment where you're paying for the experience and the time, I mean, they would do it half the time that I would do it because they have the paint booth and they have everything set up and they would do a better job, obviously, um, but it's mainly the skill and it's It's a time consuming process um and that's where your money goes anyway it's time for my little question guys and girls we're back in lockdown um what are you most looking forward to?
I think this year not being able to visit my friends and my family is really necessary, really too, a lot of people, um, what have you done? What have you found to do with your time that has kept you positive or focused or something like you need something to focus on? Don't you think? I'm very lucky this time. I had to repaint this and the last time I was good I put new lower casings and things like that and my other m3, the BMW M3 that I have and So that kept me busy doing that, yeah, what has kept you busy and also What are you most looking forward to when we close?
I really hope we can visit our family for Christmas. my family will be a couple of hundred miles away from here as you can probably see a lot of things, you'll know I live in Blackpool which is in England but I'm actually from Scotland a couple of hundred miles away I hope not having been able to visit them this year and I hope to be able to get up for Christmas, but I'm not going to hold my breath because it's safety first and all that and I'll see you next time anyway, guys and girls. let's see how you look
