Mar 17, 2024
What does God want me to do? What does God want me to do? The most common question I get asked in one way or another, one way or another, when people walk into the office and most of them walk in struggling to discern

what

God's

will

is. It is for your life, without a doubt, 90 percent of those who sit at the table with the pastor do not seek my opinion or my conclusion. What they want is to hopefully believe that I can help them understand

what

God

wants

from them and what God want what to do with a certain situation in their life they come asking what God

wants

them to do I come in saying I have a desire in my heart but how do I know if it's God's

will

or if it's just what I want to do At a crossroads, they have to make a critical decision and wonder what path God wants me to follow.

They come, they've been dating someone for a long time and they want to know if this is God or if we should seek Him. Another comes with this curiosity and concern of trying to discern what God's will is for their life, my brothers and sisters, I would suggest to you that without a doubt it is the greatest struggle that we all face as we walk with the Lord Jesus Christ, no matter how great be your Bible. is that no matter how many Sundays you come to church, all of us at some point in our lives struggle with trying to understand what God's will is, what God wants us to do, what decision God supports, what role God wants us to take, what job.

Has God pointed out what relationship God has endorsed? What does God really want me to do? Discerning God's will for your life decisions is not always easy because God does not always express his will in great and glorious ways that are easy to understand. Elijah one of God's greatest prophets has prayed to the Lord that God revealed his will to him and in chapter 19 of First Kings Elijah says that a wind blew and the wind was so strong that it began to shake the mountains but God was not in that wind and after the wind there was an earthquake and the earth began to shake. tremble and tremble but God was not speaking through the earthquake and then there was a great great fire that consumed everything but God was not speaking in the fire and after the wind and after the earthquake and after the fire there was a still small voice and it What Elijah understood is what we understand is that God does not always speak on earth moving signs and devastating symbols that give you clarity. in what God wants that sometimes God's will is expressed in a low and still voice.

Wouldn't faith be easier if God revealed his will in great ways? It would make it easier if God would just buy a sign on your way to work and put up what your instructions were for your life God doesn't even have a Facebook page He doesn't even post what He wants you to do God doesn't tweet you in the morning with your divine assignment God has never sent you an email God no longer speaks to a pillar of cloud during the day and a pillar of fire during the night, wouldn't it be easier if when you pray for God to reveal his will, He made easy to discern in great and glorious ways, but God speaks in a low and small voice?

Today you are struggling to know what God wants you to do, how can I know what God wants me to do? You probably say: read the Bible, that's a good answer. I support that motion because if you read your Bible, you will be a better Christian, however the Bible does not always reveal to you the personal providential plan prescribed by God for your life. The Bible tells me some things but it does not always give me the personal decisions that I need to make in my daily life the ones I can't go to the bible open it find a book with my name where God has written me a letter to tell me everything I should do every day of my life so again how do I know what God wants me to do ?
Part of discerning that will of God, I think we can get insight through the journey of the apostle Paul, look at what the Bible says. Paul then determines that he wants to go to Asia, modern-day Turkey, the Bible says the Holy Spirit did not allow him, so Paul says well. Let me go to Bithynia and the Bible says the Holy Spirit did not allow it. Make sure you catch this. When Paul wants to go to Turkey, the Holy Spirit says no and when Paul wants to go to Bethany, the Holy Spirit says no. Make sure you catch. us that when their hearts desire to go this way if it wasn't where God wanted them to go, the Holy Spirit is what God uses to keep them from going in the wrong direction.
God uses the Holy Spirit to be that still small voice that he tells you. tell you what God wants you to do, that the Holy Spirit will allow me to interpret the will of God around me so that when I am filled with the Holy Spirit I can see and hear and discern which direction God is pointing me and listen to me, my brother and my sister God is not trying to play with you God's will does not want it to remain a mystery God is not trying to keep his will out of your vision God wants you to know what he wants you to do He wants you to do know his will, he wants may you be obedient and give you the Holy Spirit so that you can discern it when you read the Bible in your devotional life and come away with an

understanding

of what God wants you to do Holy Spirit when you come to church confused and somewhere between the singing of the song and the preaching of the sermon a light shines and you understand it now you understand that it made sense in your heart and in your head that it was not a choir and it was not a preacher Holy Spirit when you sit down with your pastor your counselor your therapist your psychiatrist and you talk with them and when you finish talking to them you now believe that God has spoken to you and you know what you are supposed to do, no Don't give credit to the doctorate on the wall that is the Holy Spirit when you have been praying for God to lead and you wake up one day and see signs around you that begin to speak of God's will for your life and your neighbors.
I saw the same thing and I didn't get anything out of it, because that's the Holy Spirit, that the role of the Holy Spirit is to direct you in the will of God, now, now, if that's how God speaks through the Holy Spirit, that means that there are two things you have to do to discern what God wants you to do in every decision you have to make number one you have to bathe your decision in prayer if you want God to speak to you, you better speak to him bathe him in prayer God tell me what which path to take God make sure the motivations in my heart are correct God clarify your path for me God guide me God speaks to my heart God points me in the right direction that if you trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own

understanding

but in all your ways acknowledge him he will do what God will direct your path when you bathe your decision making in prayer you want to know why some of us have difficulty discerning God's will you are overloaded with the senses, you have too much coming up, too much Facebook to feeling God, too much Twitter, too many reality shows, you wonder why you can't discern God's will when the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning is check your phone to read your emails and see who tweeted you how many new followers you got last night   and we are so overloaded with other things   that we cannot discern the will of God so that  you can clearly hear the little voice of God now wait a minute someone I know you I know you I just heard it you said wait reverend I have been praying that God He hasn't shown me anything I've been sincerely praying for God to lead me and God hasn't shown me He hasn't told me which way to go God hasn't shown me what to do God hasn't made it clear to me You've been praying but you still don't know ok I want you to see what happens with Paul, the Bible says the Holy Spirit did not allow Turkey, the Holy Spirit did not allow Bithynia, but they came to Macedonia by their own conclusion.
Now it is interesting that Bethany was blocked by the Holy Spirit. Turkey was blocked by the Holy Spirit, but Macedonia was never given any indication that the Holy Spirit directed them to Macedonia   they came to Macedonia by their own conclusion  meaning they discern God's will   because what God did not want They did it was clearer than what God did, don't lose me, God's no is. always stronger than God's yes than what God does not want you to do God is able to block it clearly but where God wants you to do it comes to a conclusion and passion and movement in that direction and discovery in a real sense were able to discern the will of God not through God's yes but through the absence of God's no this is what happens they try to go to Turkey and the Holy Spirit blocks it somehow they try to go to Bithynia and the Holy Spirit blocks it block them somehow they try to go to Macedonia and conclude that Macedonia must be the right direction because there was no blockage or interference from the Holy Spirit and since God didn't say no, that must be the direction God wanted them to go, that sometimes we discern the right path. because God keeps the door open, listen to me, there is a scripture that I really, really, really, really want you to memorize.
It is one of the most prophetic promises in all of Scripture and it is one that we do not worry enough about when it comes to us in Revelation chapter 3 and verse 7 when Jesus says this I can close a door that no man can open and I can open a door that no man can close may we serve a God who is able to close the wrong path and open the right path. The path God can block and prevent you from moving in the wrong direction and God can open wide the door that takes you on the right path, so this is what you do: bathe it in prayer and then move in the direction you feel you should.
Go and trust God enough that if that's not what He wants you to do, He can close the door that you can never open and He will leave open a door that no one can close no matter how long it takes. to get there if that is God's will that door will always be open
